Description

Rogue Cards (Dungeon Cards) is a mix of puzzle, card game, and a classical roguelike. Each movement of your card creates a unique and challenging situation, a mini-puzzle which requires strategic thinking to solve.

In this card roguelike, you move your character card about a field of nine cards. You have to clash your card with neighboring cards to move it. Monster cards and trap cards will decrease your card’s health, healing cards will… well, heal you, cards with gold will increase your game score and there are also many other cards with unique abilities and behaviors.

The game is built with a classical roguelike formula: it is a turn-based dungeon crawler in a fantasy setting with selectable characters, procedurally generated dungeons, pixel art graphics, and the permadeath.

Choose one of the ten heroes, descend into the magical dungeon and slay hordes of monsters in quest of epic loot!

Game features:

  • no Internet connection required
  • engaging game mechanics
  • 3-15 minute game sessions
  • easy one-hand control
  • runs smoothly even on the older phones
  • easy to learn, hard to master
  • cute pixel art graphics

Rogue Cards Reviews

Im so glad we found this game! Im a casual gamer, but we still like something with a little depth and enough variety to keep you coming back for more. This fits the bill! This is very well designed, user friendly, easy to learn and pick up and play, its portrait mode (thank you!!!), it uses no battery, and its simply really fun. Theres a challenge, but its not frustrating at all. Also, there are no ads or IAP, and the premium price is more than fair. Also the privacy policy is excellent (no tracking at all). Thank you developer for a great app and monetizing it so fairly. We need more developers like you.

We got this back in November when it went free for a day or two. We wasn’t really a fan of card-based games previously (outside of Imbroglio, because…. Well…. WOW!), even though we’re a huge strategy and roguelike fan, the whole card element has never really grabbed us – and we didn’t expect much from this, especially with a generic name like Rogue Cards… HOWEVER:;: After about a week of installing and offloading this game trying to make more space on our dinky little 16GB phone, it started to click with us. By Christmas, we were playing this at least once a day. Now, at the beginning of March, it’s still on our phone (one of 3 card-based games we have wound up REALLY clicking with – the other two being; Imbroglio [obviously] and Pirates Outlaws], and more than that:: we have at least 5 gaming ‘sessions’ (free time where we put more than 15 minutes into a game) with it a week. We have yet to unlock everything, but we do have about 60% of the perks, 3/4 of the characters and a little less than 1/2 of the stages unlocked. And with no IAPs in sight, it’s great knowing that everyone else playing it has not been able to just buy their way to unlocking everything. It also doesn’t taint the gameplay with thoughts like ‘are they purposely coding the game to always beat us?’ Or ‘is this artificially difficult so that we’ll want to toss a few dollars at it?’ So…. Do we recommend this game? GEWD YES!!! Even for people/gamers who have never been fans of card games? ABSOLUTELY. Should you wait for it to go on sale or even drop down to free to get it? If we knew how much we were going to enjoy this game before I, myself, got it for free, we wouldn’t have. $1.99 is a GREAT price point for this when compared to other titles in the genre scattered across the AppStore. In fact, after Christmas we would up gifting this game to a couple of friends at work just because we wanted to toss what we could in the direction of the devs AND because we thought they would both enjoy it. One did, the other is more obsessed with console gaming, has never thought of his phone as a ‘respectable gaming device’ and has made fun of mobile gamers for the last decade…. So…. <shrug> (can’t win ’em all). Anyway, we TOTALLY recommend picking it up if you’re even the slightest bit interested in it. Lots of characters with different attributes/abilities – lots of perks to choose from (you can activate 3 out of the 11-12 or so that they have – after you unlock them), and both can be upgraded with the currency you earn/collect in each game, and, right now, 17 stages to choose from, each of them also having different enemies/attributes. Though, you’ll have to unlock all of this, starting from stage 1 and with 1 character…. It IS a game that, in order to unlock everything and have a fairly massive selection of ways to play, you’ll have to put a bit of time in to – but the gameplay is solid, fair, ENJOYABLE, randomized, and can very easily eat up a lot of that free time. If that doesn’t sound good, or like something you’re into, then I’d say no, go buy something else. =P.

We really like this game and would love to see more games like this Im surprised a game so simple is this fun.

Its $2 and is worth it in about 10 minutes of playing. Its a really nice little tile-based rogue lite. Reminds us of Threes in a weird way. Hope to see more from this dev! Definitely worth a couple bucks if youre into this kind of game.

Now,I personally think that this game is very well made with loads of work put into it. The enemies, the weapons the different spells its so amazing. And we’ve seen people say that its a card thief clone but its something much more than that,Id say it just has inspiration from it. Keep up the good work.

We really like this game, but it is really annoying that we cant pause a run and be confident that Ill be able to resume it at a later time. If its a short amount of time that we leave the app, it stays, but after a while if we relaunch the app, we are sent to the Home Screen with no way to resume. Is this just us that is having this issue?

We just keep coming back to earn more gold and upgrade our characters so we can beat the next goal. Very clever design and gameplay with incredible simplicity and depth. Such fun.

This game is a great time waster. Well worth the minimal cost of entry. No connection required to play. Just hard enough to be interesting and fun. Great casual game.

We see no provision to allow saves do be transferred between devices which doesnt make sense in this day and age. Would love the game otherwise.

A lot of depth, fun pixelated graphics, satisfying. Needs leaderboards added and would then be perfect.

Pretty fun roguelike so far and would be exactly what Im looking for except for one issue. It doesnt save your progress mid-run if you stop playing for a bit, so it becomes frustrating if Im on a good run and then have to do something else, our progress is lost.

Since the update that added the Grenadier the Viking has lost his explosion immunity. How long before its corrected?

Im in love with this game. Its just as fun and complex as Card Crawl, our other favorite game. But these simple graphics and feeling of exploration brings a nice change of pace. We feel like this could be successfully ported to the Apple Watch and be a big hit there, too.

What more could you ask from a game? The retro-vibe of this game lends to its charm.

Every now and then, if you look hard enough, you find a hidden gem in the App Store. Rogue cards deserves to be up there with the legends like card quest. Its so small and out of the way that you probably only found this game with a search. Trust us that its worth your time and money. The game has layers of depth that you progressively understand the more you play. Unlocking everything requires a thorough understanding of the games mechanics and careful character building. We dont know what else to say that wouldnt spoil the fun. Just go for it.

This game is tons of fun. We didnt expect it. It deserves MUCH more recognition. Its easy to pick up but still requires you to be smart about your moves.

First time we tried out this game we didnt understand it but we soon got the hang of it. The game is very simple yet involves strategy, calculations, and a bit of luck. Through out the game you earn coins that you can trade in for more life points, strengths and other bonuses. More characters become available as you advance levels and each character has their own advantages and disadvantages.

This game is pretty fun. The mechanics are simple but requires careful planning to execute well. Its sort of like a grid based dungeon card game. Its also very cute! Unfortunately the random nature of card appearances means you can often get stuck in positions that are literally impossible to escape. The counterbalance to this are abilities and upgrades which you can level up, including more health, periodic auto-heals/attacks, and more. But, then you have to grind to unlock the abilities, which isnt too bad since the game is enjoyable to begin with, but would be nicer if the upgrades came a bit faster. Finally, our foremost complaint is that the game doesnt save dungeon state if the app closes. So if youre halfway through a dungeon with lots of gold and get distracted and have to leave the app, theres a chance youll lose all your dungeon progress and gold from it. Quite frustrating considering it is a mobile app. Please fix this soon! Overall, quite a fun concept and we enjoy playing it, definitely worth the trivial $1 asking price. You spend more money on a candy bar than this game costs, please just buy it!

Havent played a game quite like this. Rogue Cards is a unique blend of game genres. We dont normally play card games, but we like RPGs so we thought Id give it a try. At first, it reminded us of Dungelot but more simplified gameplay in a good way. Characters, skills and dungeons are unlocked with the coins you earn. Gameplay is quick, strategic and consists of taping cards and switching places with them. Once you get the hang of it, the game gets even more enjoyable. Overall a nice hidden gem to play when youre in the mood to play a game that has RPG & card inspired elements, fast dungeons and cute pixel graphics.
