This game is amazing! Its essentially open world, and you can choose your path and see the consequences of your actions. But at the beginning of the game, you dont join a faction of pirates or guardians. You go on missions and protect convoys or destroy them. This will move you along on the spectrum of good and evil. Also, the graphics are great, the gameplay is fun and engaging, and its simply all-around a great game. We give this game 5 stars.

A great game if you enjoy Elite or similar games. Best one like it on mobile.

As opposed to most other games these days, which are almost all some combination of overly complicated, clunky, or ethically shady. This is a real game, and its clever, fun, and challenging. We really hope the developers bring it to other platforms, such as Android and Switch. There is no need for a game this good to be exclusive to one OS.

Game is still great. The in app purchase we don’t mind. Helpful to speed things up. Bought the game but don’t mind you now made it free. This game deserves to be in the spotlight, and we recommend to any sci-fi/dogfight/space exploration fans. Hopefully you guys update and add more stuff into it. Keep it up.

DISCLAIMER: we have not played This game is like a nice, modern slice of classic Elite gameplay with a fun bidding mini-game thrown in. Looks good, plays well and is a lot of fun if you’re into space combat & trading.

Love this game but can you please add more star systems and third person if you are reading thank you.

This game is a fun pass time, and a creative display of graphic art. We would love to see more upscale missions than there are currently in the game. Can’t wait to see what Redbreast comes up with next.

Enhancements are very welcome. Unfortunately now the game only starts in one portrait orientation leaving our cover in the way. This makes gameplay very difficult. I’d like the ability to be able to rotate the orientation 180 degrees so we can hold the iPad more easily.

Dying in this game doesnt seem like it comes with nearly as stiff a penalty considering you can just pay a small sum or watch a video to respawn like nothing happened. We cant find myself worried about any situation. Why do we even need a better ship when we can just respawn instantly?

We tried to get enough money for the Volante we think that’s what it’s called but when we bought it we still couldn’t get to Viper, why? Why doesn’t the Volante have a more powerful hyperdrive? We did get past the mission we complained about last time though. P.s in order to get past the asteroids we restarted the game, so the only mission is the asteroid one, pls add more missions. We finally got to Viper… Aaand NOTHING new. Like we said so much time wasted no new missions and Viper has WAY to many pirate gang ups.

Stuck on asteroid level. This will drain your credits to 0. Every Time you fail mission, credits are subtracted. You cannot get out of that mission.

We really love the art style, the original yet familiar story and gameplay with nods to several classics. Thoroughly recommended.

Paid for this and now it is free to play. That’s bait and switch.

The is a GREAT game and has so much potential and with the recent update it is great (except for the few small bugs). Maybe we are in for third person? Able to walk around the space stations? More spacecraft? Maybe even moving around INSIDE of your ship. Really it is a great game and we are probably one of the few people who still enjoy this game! P.S. Could you bring in some character customization features. Same with the spacecraft too. Keep up the good work guys!

This seemed like a great choice on sale, but the first post-tutorial encounter with enemy ships proved us wrong. Anytime we oriented so that an enemy was onscreen, the game bugged out until the enemy was off screen again. Makes combat, one of the main points of the game, basically impossible. (iPad mini 3)

From what we read about Rogue Star it seemed like a space sim that would fill the void left by Galaxy on Fire II, and the concept of controlling power flow between Weapons, Shields, and Engines suggested strategic depth. The game itself is an ode to a classic title called Elite, which we’ve never played before, but the favoring of classic mechanics is where the game falls short. You start as a new pilot, given a your first ship and told you can do anything you want. You encounter the first shortcoming in the dated flight mechanics. The flying feels jumpy and skittish, the ships all fly pretty much the same way: weightlessly. Combat does have its moments, but it comes out feeling like Sky Gamblers stripped of all the mechanics that provide the exhilarating sense of freedom, simulated flight. You will get four kinds of activities: Escort, Ambush, Blatant Piracy, and Cargo Haul. Buying cargo requires that you attend an auction, the auction mini game has greater strategic depth than the actual combat imo. You are presented with a random product out of the 3 or 4 the planet produces and in random quantity, you have to make a purchase at least ever third round or you’ll be eliminated, if you play your cards right you can eliminate the bidders with empty cargo holds, if your opponents are out of cargo space they can not bid, if all your remaining opponents are at hull capacity you are an uncontested bidder and practically steal yourself a big bonus. Missions so far have been dull affairs involving a visit to a particular station for a cash reward, package delivery. The game is not bad, it’s just dated, it’s worse than GoF II when it could easily have been better. The game breaker is a bug which appears after a couple of light speed jumps, the game starts freezing on the output, but continues running. You glare at a frozen jerky frame for 8 seconds while you hear your ship being torn to pieces, the gameplay resumes for a couple of seconds, and then glitches out again the moment you try and steer. It is fixed by rebooting the game, but that gets pretty old when you have to do it every 12 minutes. Pros: Soundtrack makes you want to fly a spaceship. Beautiful ship models and environment. Large battles feel chaotic in the best way. Auctions are fun. Cons: You can’t see your ship. Flying feels chunky, the ship responds to the controls by jerking the recital past the target, then back across it, trying to hit enemies that perform evasive maneuvers that never work when you try them. The ability to move power to systems has little strategic depth beyond the optimal presets for the three situations you’ll face in the game: Defensive (engagement, dogfighting), Offensive (have a target lined up), and Pursuit. The game is Broken at the moment.

Every time a try to turn to face a ship the game stutters and lags we have died twice already and this makes the game unplayable.

Unplayable! When the enemy gets near center of crosshairs the screen shakes and locks up. By the time it resolves the enemy is somewhere far away. Happens constantly. What a shame. Wasn’t this tested?

Game glitches in space flight way too much to enjoy playing it. This is on iOS 9 with an iPad Air 2 so perhaps your mileage will vary with another setup. Shame as it seems like a great concept.

Game wigs out during space flight, screen shakes incessantly and game is unplayable.

Don’t listen to the folks who say the game is too hard and rate it low because of that, it’s not. This game is fantastic, a love letter to the original Elite. Fantastic art style, outrageously fun dogfighting, a neat twist on acquiring cargo to trade, and the personality and tongue in cheek cracks by he alien races is just too funny. If you’re not one of these chumps who needs their hand held while playing a game, this is for you.

The last update fixed all our issues. Definitely a 5 star game, now.

Love it! MFi controller works (needs fire button) MadCatz. Awesome! Please Keep Improving/Updating : ) we’ve already played this more in one day than the six months we’ve had Elite Dangerous, good dogfighting challenge and easy to learn.

Wow! A well made, and modern elite-like in our pocket! We hope they keep updating it, we’re sure fans of the genre like myself would gladly pay for content updates that happen to include gameplay enhancements.

Everyone says that this game is to hard but after the second ship we were fine. It’s super fun and addicting and in one afternoon we were able to rank 1 on the leaderboards. We love this game and can’t wait for the new ships and missions. PS keep the difficulty it has right now.

If you like extremely difficult games that ratchet up their difficulty regardless of your success, then this game is for you. The con to that is the steep learning curve (i.e. Deaths) to obtain the skills necessary to achieve any kind of sustaining success. The plus is that anything you’re able to achieve in-game feels very satisfying. You start off as a pilot of the lowest tier ship with access to 3 systems. As you earn credits, you can buy other ships, which gives you better weapons, shields, speed, cargo bay, and the ability to travel to more systems, although right now there are only 10. It also gives you access to better equipped enemies who come in swarms, so be aware of that. It doesn’t get easier based on our experience so far. The trading system has a mini game which we found fun, but ultimately useless because it’s too risky to invest in trade goods when every transit you take is fraught with danger, regardless of how good your ship is, or how successful you get at the game. Same thing with missions. We’re going to give a few tips on how we found a modicum of success. 1. Prioritize collecting cargo containers. This is the primary way we make credits. They explode quickly so you have to have a sense of urgency. They’re the yellow dots on your radar. Simply run over them. 2. Accept 1 or 2 escort missions each transit. Let the other ships go in front of you. As soon as you enter the fray, all the AI ships tend to concentrate on you, so make sure you’re ready. Again, prioritize collecting cargo canisters, especially if they blow the cargo ship up. 3. Win your one on ones. You can’t play this game if you can’t do that consistently. Stay behind the enemy, and lead the target. 4. When facing multiple enemies, we will head straight for them, shields at 100, with energy at a min for stabilization. Our first pass we generally target an enemy by touching on it. After that it’s a matter of passing the enemy ships, doing damage to the one we’ve targeted, and speeding away until we’ve recharged, turnaround, repeat. We generally try to keep our lasers at the 70-80% mark while engaged in battle, then quickly shift to engines to speed away. Once we get them down to one ship, it’s cake. We use our knowledge of each ship type to customize each encounter. We don’t always get the combination right, but that’s the general idea. 5. If we can make any kind of profit, we forgo escorts within 5000km of the base. We don’t sell cargo for 10 credits. It’s worth it to us to take a chance on a system that buys it for more. You can check commodity prices for each system in the system travel menu. We saw a tip somewhere to charge your shields before jumping, which we disagree with. Enemies will often randomly appear if you stay still. Jump then run away at the next encounter and charge your shields then. It’s impossible enough to reach the base. Don’t add to the encounters you have to survive. TL:DR Lead when firing, sell cargo you pick up for your primary means of earning credits, learn to successfully kite multiple enemies.

This game to us is one of the most adventurous and frustrating. Game will crash once in a while. It’s really easy to die if your just starting and you get attacked by pirates. We recommend when the next time the game updates to add the ability to land on the plants and trade/fight freestyle.

We enjoy this game, it’s addictive and it brings us back to retro games that have a bit more of a futuristic edge to them. Our BIGGEST problem with this game is that we have downloaded this game 3 times now… THREE!!!! We have tried to "return to game" only to have it glitch off to our main screen while it’s loading. It probably wouldn’t be so aggravating if we hadn’t gotten as far as buying our third ship and having a ton of credits well on our way to buying a forth top tier ship. Please fix this glitch as its a pain in the arse!!

Honestly, get "star vector" or "Galactic Phantasy"!!!!!!!

Help us out here! The game is too punishing! We mean it’s completely unfair that EVERY TIME you load up cargo you run into pirates that outnumber and out gun you! There’s no way to get ahead. We mean that starter ship is sooooo weak. At least let us buy some upgrades or something. Combat is already tough enough because of a rather slow d-pad, don’t compound things here!

We enjoy a good sim that allows for learning. Give a guy a fighting chance, w/o random masses of pirates that nuke the first decent cargo load you get. Pretty, but flawed. Dumped into the "Paid, but unused" app folder for now.

The game has great potential: it’s fun, expansive, detailed… But there are issues that need to be addressed. First, in order to communicate with their Support, you must do it through Facebook. That’s BS. Next, we agree with the other reviewers, the difficulty fluctuations are absurd and make the game frustrating. There is a crashing problem that the game periodically locks up or just shuts down. And multiple times, what really got us trying to contact their support, which is difficult, was we play a mission, get to a port laden with cargo and money from escorting and bounties, and upon entering the port, it all disappears. After the update we tried it again and guess what? It is still s$!t.

This game has it all, super polished. We think enemy tuning is a little harder than you may want, but we think we’ll get better with practice. A sensitivity control in options would work too!

Rogue Star is possibly in the top 5 games "best game on the App Store" list. This being said, we do not recommend this game to everyone. If you are thinking this game is easy, it’s not. For our first 30 minutes, we did not understand how anyone could play. It was hard, frustratingly hard. Countless times we would win big in an auction, and on our way to a big payday we were shot down. Oddly enough, something made us return. And the next day we did. We began to understand the game and win more battles. We began to make riskier runs that sometimes paid off and some that made us mad. Now at first getting money is RIDICULOUSLY hard but after a good amount of time we began to really progress. Don’t let us completely steer you away from the game because of its difficulty though. It’s an amazing game and for that we recommend it. Unless you hate hard games, you should definitely give this game a try.

The game’s got its very own spacey good looks and some cracking wit; silky smooth game playso essential for a good dogfighting game. And yes, it’s quite challenging! You will be blasted to smithereens many times before you get a decent feel for how to balance your ship’s shields-speed-firepower ratio against your enemies. So rewarding when you finally get it! And even then, you will still get blasted half the time! So it becomes about how much you’re risking on your missionthat and the intense combat makes it all so wonderfully tense!

This is how we think we wish eve online was for us. Periodic space battles, an interesting space society u get to learn about and best of all no iaps we can lose myself in our ship and truly enter the world. An extremely impressive app from a store riddled with subpar games filled with iaps…

We’ve been waiting for Drifter to come out for a while and then we saw this game it’s the same concept space, fighting, and trading drifter says they’ll have more stuff but for now this game is awesome is very hard and enraging but once you save up for a new ship it gets pretty easy we grinding now for 28,000 credits we make on average 300 credits a run please make money just a little easier to get.

Ok- these guys did a great job! How come bigger dev studios couldn’t pull this off? Nicely balanced, we just wish there was more content. Like, we wish there were more places to dock or space saloons or something. Yes, it’s a bit hard. Once you understand how to aim it gets way easier.

This game plays like Elite from the C64 ZX days, youll spend a huge amount of time trading and protecting (or murdering) convoys. Controls are very fluid, the game tutorial is really helpful, and it looks beautiful as can be!

This game is beautiful and is exactly what we’re looking for in a space sim. It’s an awesome space trader with good combat and the best flight controls we’ve used in any touchscreen device. The soundtrack is perfect and simple, the writing is excellent, the character animations have personality. We could sit and live in this universe for hours.

Space combat is supposed to be difficult! Otherwise everyone would be good at it.

This game is amazing best space game on IOS if you like this you should get space age it’s good.

This game is challenging in a fantastic way. It is not too hard as some say. We can’t put it down. Graphics and loading are seamless and dogfights intense. Totally worth the price and the devs seem open to improving and expanding. We feel like any negatives aren’t worth mentioning as they will be dealt with. Our only personal suggestion would be better ship balance. Seems like you can pirate better in a cargo ship than a pirate one. Some of the cheaper ships have far better stats than higher prices ones. Isn’t a major issue just something that i’d like to see tweaked in the future. BUY THIS GAME.

Coming from GOF2 playing regularly still, this game is great in its very own rite, and well worth the price, time and effort. Havent played Elite much, despite hearing the rave reviews about it, but after doing the research, we can see how this game can compare and follows in its spirit, while carving out its very own niche. All in all, nice story, polished graphics, a sense of humor, and challenging combat at times, which was welcomed. Though not as insanely difficult as many here describe it to be. Cmon people, utilize your energy system flows during battle! They are there for a reason. Up the shields when you have to, speed up engines to get behind, and power up laser to blast those pirates to space dust- per say. Also, utilize sliding that speed bar on the right side of the screen during combat to keep yourself in the advantageous position. And a well-timed barrel roll here and there is always encouraged. If you can follow those steps, youll find yourself to be a better pilot and one step closer to enjoying this very well-done game. Happy hunting. UPDATE: Flight time: 2hrs 14 mins. (ship market prices can fluctuate but cannot confirm on what factor.. Rank maybe?) Rank: Competent /Guardian. Kills: 114. Ship losses: 2. Keep an eye on your shields, and just play efficiently, in and out of battle. We’ve also noticed people griping about making money. Always grab those cargo containers when you can and sell in the system with highest payoff. In combat, the old adage that the best defense is a good offense, applies here as well. Again, very great game!

Rogue Star is a fantastic space shooter and trading game. It’s surprisingly deep, but also simple to pick up and play. The dog fighting is the best aspect of play.

Rogue Space is a wonderful game. In a world where in-app-purchase ridden free to play games seem to rule the market it is wonderful to see a game not only break that mold, but do it in style. Pay for Rogue Space once, and enjoy it without ever seeing ads or having to pay for "gems" to unlock content. Anyway… The game is really quite great. Graphically it’s simple, but very polished, quite beautiful in its own way. The gameplay is fun and it controls well (as well as touchscreen – joystick games can). The music and writing is wonderful. Overall, we can’t say enough good things about this game. Well worth our $5.

The music is the best we’ve heard in an ios game, but we’re a huge fan of classical. Aliens look awesome, graphics all around are awesome. We love the designs of the ships we escort. We often just fly closely staring at them. They have a retro coolness to them (also reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica). Hopefully in updates we’ll get a dedicated quick barrel roll button and sensitivity setting.

This game is absolutely the best space game on IOS it delivers everything you would want in a space game it delivers exploration, dog fights, and trading. Something that could be added is maybe you can own a docking place and you can control what comes in and out of it and also you can request somebody to go and deliver/get materials that you want and you can pay them and if you don’t your rank will decrease but don’t take away the main idea of the game don’t make it the biggest/most important thing in the game. But other wise amazing game love the controls and everything we have been waiting for a space game like this forever! If we could rate this more than five stars we definitely would!
