We’ve been playing these games for MANY years and can only say that this is by far our very favorite. We love the fact that there are so many games sprinkled throughout. We love the format and the intrigue journey through this adventure. We know we will be play through this again. LOVE IT .. LOVE IT!

Pretty Long game; not short like many others. Good plot, good animation. No fairy princesses thank goodness. Pretty challenging. More like the old adventure games in a way. Recommended.

We finally hit the jackpot with a $2.99 sale! This game is more entertaining than its peers have been for a long time. And no repulsive phantoms or dark magic. Just good old-fashioned, scary sci-fi accidents. We’re having the best time. Very clever mini games. Just use your intuition and enjoy the lay. We love the sparkles on the HOPs. Great story line that flows from beginning to end. Okay, we haven’t completed the game yet, but we guess we’re 3/4 of the way through. The hidden object text is tiny and there are a few places where the final sound clip of a character seemed to be cut off too soon, but those minor items we can forgive with the entertainment value of this game. Nicely done, Developers!

This game has new and interesting puzzles, not just the ones where if you move one part all the other parts move. Some of the audio seemed to cut out before the speaker was finished but didnt ruin the story. Its worth the money! We recommend!

We would classify this game as a mash-up of science-fiction and lite horror. The story involves your attempts to deal with the impact and consequences of a man-made calamitous event, stemming from an experiment that went terribly wrong and turned people into ghostly, zombie-like monsters. The time frame takes place after the catastrophe, within a remotely located island where only the abandoned remnants of society and technology remain. We always admire this developer’s knack for injecting raw emotion into their characters, allowing players like myself to become fully immersed within their mind sets. The artwork appropriately illustrates the post-cataclysmic theme: vine-covered, dilapidated buildings; rusted, beat-up cars; and secretive lab rooms, with broken technological equipment. The quality of the graphics is unimpressive; the fuzzy visuals lack clarity and need to be sharpened up. The adventure portion of gameplay implements standard HOA fare and lacks the layers of complexity and innovative qualities that made some of their older games standout. However, even though the HOSs are unoriginal, they are thoroughly entertaining and creatively rendered. The excellent background storytelling is integrated within some of the HOSs. One standout HOS, in our opinion, is the one in which you move sliding bars on the top and side of the screen so that the silhouette shapes fit into the weather-themed patterns. The puzzles are varied and plentiful, with some being scientifically oriented. Some puzzles, especially those in the bonus chapter, require some thought and time to work out, although others fail to offer any stimulating challenges. We do like the one in which you interact with a mechanical switchboard to obtain the clamps. You should have no problems spotting the trademarked symbol that is prevalent throughout this developer’s games. As far as the mechanics go, it appears that the developers tweaked their programming so that complete sets of the same inventory items can be simultaneously placed in the scene instead of individually dragging them over, one at a time. We did notice one trivial programming flaw with the audio in reference to the dialogue: at the end of the audio of each current dialogue sequence, we heard the first syllable of the first word of the next dialogue sequence before clicking "continue." It’s no big deal but still noticeable. This is not, in our opinion, Madhead’s best workmanship, but they somehow continue to devise interesting story lines and compelling characters. Considering the brevity of the free trial, we went ahead and bought this game, especially in light of the forthcoming Labor Day sale. We still feel that this game is missing the pioneering, interactive techniques that usually set them apart from their peers. Nonetheless, this is still a more-than-satisfying production compared to most of the last several games. Therefore, our true rating of 4.5 stars is bumped up to a final five (5) stars.

Compliments to madhead games. A semi scary game that ended up being a lot of searching through labs for things. Decent plot. Like four hours playing time for just the main game not including the bonus game.

This is not our review – However, we are suggesting fellow gamers contact Big Fish by e-mail and let them know how ridiculous and unfair it is not to given us a New Release Thursday just because of a redundant holiday sale. The more of an out cry about our feelings on this, we feel we will have a better chance of change. There is absolutely no good reason why we couldnt have had a New Release and they can still have their sale. We will write our game review later when we are not so ticked off. We go through this every darn holiday and it is getting old! KdBoots * On to the game review: Outstanding and Very Entertaining! Loved the storyline, character voiceovers, and the overall suspense that this developer provided. Surely, one to keep you on the edge of your seat. We had a Great time with it, only wish it had been longer. These games seem to fly by so quick – especially when we are given so few New Releases. Wish the olden days were here when the old Big Fish released a New Game Everyday! Highly recommend picking this one up. This developer has done a phenomenal job overall. The graphics, even the music set the tone and intensified the suspense! Happy Gaming Everyone and Have A Safe & Happy Labor Day! P.S. Maybe we will get Lucky and get a New Release Sunday or Monday – but we are not holding our breath. KdBoots.

Good awakening for our age..79. Lol keeps u alive.

Mad Head married its Beyond and Maze series, and Shadowplay is the baby. This eerie techno thriller is based on a deserted island housing a large corporation where all the employees disappeared three years ago. It wouldn’t be a Big Fish game unless you are desperately searching for a loved one, so naturally you are looking for your brother, one of the doomed corporate hacks. The trial is short, and we decided to buy primarily because of our experience with this developer. It was a good choice. The modern, clean lines of the graphics are a refreshing change from the dark, blurry settings of many other HOAGs. Difficulty is customizable. It’s a small thing, but we love that Mad Head always allows us to use our inventory items even when we haven’t collected a full set (e.g., you can place 2 pieces in a mural while waiting to find the third). There are a variety of HOPs, including silhouettes and storybook. The minigames and overall gameplay are moderately challenging: not a lot of handholding, but generally a smooth ride. There are 30+ puzzles, which made us very happy. The collectibles are, as always, the Mad Head logo in each scene and the morphing objects in the HOPs. These are fairly easy to spot. There are some downsides. The teleporting map doesn’t tell you when collectibles are available. The text and silhouettes in the HOPs are small, so be prepared to bring your reading glasses and use the zoom feature. There is no journal, although your "locator" will sometimes provide useful information. We are rounding up our score of 4.5 due to the lengthy gameplay (40+ scenes) and overall enjoyment. We strongly recommend this game, especially for those who like the darker side of Mad Head.

We are still in the early stages but this one has it all so far–great graphics, lovely music, compelling plot and characters, and especially great puzzles, though we still miss Elephant’s multilayered puzzles from the dark Carnival series! This one is a must have. Thanks BF and developers for two great ones in a row. We’ve been called away from gaming a bit so we’re behind in writing reviews but not in reading them. You folks are a delight. Happy sturgeon moon. Lynx minx, thanks for the shout out! Sorry for being unclear. We were trying to urge all developers to give us more of Elephant’s complex puzzles. I’d love to see a greater variety of puzzles– those that take a few seconds to some that might take 30 minutes of head scratching. We greatly admire these narrative games that are able to appeal to such a wide and demanding audience. We suppose our greatest gripe lies in dated games marched out with all the authority of new, as well as those weeks with no new games. So far the new Artifex Mundi is worth the $$$, just as a heads up for those in search of an end of summer treat.

Everything is top-notch: beautiful graphics, very responsive interact map (does not show collectibles), long-playing, locate Mad Head collectibles (Mad Head logo) and morphing objects within HOPs. Best of all: After completing the Bonus Game, there is an option to locate missed collectible bikes, a super HOP, several jigsaw puzzles, and HOPs to locate missed morphing objects. We love this game!

We play an embarrassing amount of these HO games (sigh) and this is one of the best ones that Big Fish/Mad Head have ever put out. Couldnt put our phone down and loved the storyline, graphics and creative gameplay. Thanks and please keep creating quality games like this!!!

Mad Head brings us a distinctly Eipix-like game. The mechanics are eerily similar to the Hidden Expedition series, such as close-ups opening and closing with gold bars, instead of zooming in. The morphs in HOs are a traditional Eipix feature, even the morph indicator is the same swirl as Eipix! PLEASE TELL ME EIPIX HAS NOT BOUGHT MAD HEAD! Ok, onto the game. The story is of course save the world from the villain, but its an intriguing take. Story really didnt make a whole lot of sense. As mentioned, morphs in HOs, and Mad Head logos in every scene. The HOs were 95% list type, one cool match the cloud shapes to silhouettes, and one match the texture. Not much innovation there, Which is not like Mad Head. No glitches, although a couple of times it took a few tries to get an item to work. Puzzles were better than most games; it actually took a bit of time to do a few of them. Yay! Game length was about average. You can go back and find collectibles you missed after the game is over, which is always nice. In the extras, there are jigsaw puzzles to do, and a treasure hunt. Once you complete the treasure hunt you get a large HO to play. There is also an ultimate game to play, which is the last mini game in the bonus chapter. Its an arcade style game, and you try to keep from getting hit for as long as you can. We deducted half a star for lack of innovation, another half bc of the Eipix-type play, and another half for storyline. Real rating of 3.5 rounded up to 4 for the neat extras.

Note to KimTwilight: the brother was a HOTTIE! Note to Moxie ruby: Welcome back to reviewing. That being said, we all love Elephant Games, but this particular developer was Mad Head! On to the game. The genre combined both science fiction and horror, with human experimentation gone horribly awry, and the goal was to escape the island. The graphics were average at best, and there was not much in the way of unique or innovative elements as usually seen with Mad Head. We would have loved to examine more items from different perspectives via manipulation in various directions, and more sliding zoom zones. At least the teleport map was an in-game map, there were complex items to assemble, and loading was instantaneous between locations. Collectibles were limited to the Mad Head spiral, and most were quite obvious to spot. Morphing objects were confined to the HO scenes. At least there were some interesting HO puzzles, such as following a manual to operate a control panel, or combining silhouettes with sliders to find objects. This game was not overly lengthy inclusive of the bonus adventure but Mad Head managed to pack it with a good mix of puzzles! They ranged from simplistic and rotational, to games of skill and dexterity, to navigation of a maze and cracking codes. Some were quite challenging and we also enjoyed the one Kim liked so much, where you had to acquire jumper cables, because it had various sections to it! There was a gimmick in the form of a communication device, which also had a mini-game in the form of a book and which you must solve to learn more of the story. At times we found the basic gameplay slightly boring and felt like all we were doing was fixing equipment, but at other times we enjoyed the tasks which needed to be completed. So we were a bit torn with this game, as far as rating it. We didnt feel it was fabulous but it was definitely a good solid game. However, there were some touch screen sensitivity issues at play and we are a stickler for excellent quality assurance. Our review will remain at 4 stars. We deducted a star for lack of innovative components, length and for the linearity of the game. BigFish will give us a Labor Day Sale on Monday, rather than a new release. No, they gave us the sale now, so we have a week to wait for a new game! Are you really trying to make us that miserable, BigFish? Every holiday is an excuse for you to do this to your clientele, and its extremely unfair! Happy gaming to everyone, except we only have one new game, as Artifex Mundi has finally released their game, the only saving grace at all. UPDATE: BigFish used the release from Artifex Mundi to royally (insert expletives) us. So basically we wont have a game from them for 10 days, as in a week from today. We have a suggestion for some of you who may not know about the following game from Mad Head, as it wasnt distributed by BigFish. Its called Adam Wolfe: Dark Detective and its a crime story. Its expensive (8.99 for the whole game) but thats because it has a whole bunch of episodes. There is no strategy guide but there is now a walkthrough which is FREE and can be downloaded on the App Store. It plays like all the Mad Head games, so if you like this developer you should enjoy the game. Im just trying to help, for those of you who are bored, ticked off at BigFish and want a game. If it helps, KimTwilight loved it as well, and we know that most of you by now trust both of our reviewing skills enough to know that we wouldnt steer you wrong! Enjoy!

The story is excellent and gameplay is logical. Story is intriguing. None of those, actions that just dont make sense. Voice actors are good, and graphics are nice. We would give 5 stars, but its a little buggy. Biggest issue is you can spend a lot of time performing an actionit is sometimes impossible to tell where you need to point. Minor issues were a little distracting, like the stutter at the end of the dialog.

The story is engaging and the HOPs are new and innovative. The clues are more realistic and theres not a box with a special emblem around every corner, although there are a few. But the controls are so clunky. We will put an item where we think it needs to be over and over, then look at the guide to make sure Im doing the right thing, which we am. There was one point we didnt think Id be able to finish the game because no matter where we put the item, it wouldnt work. Finally, it clicked, but more out of accident, than anything. We are happy with the game, but that part is so frustrating. Im using an iPad.

This game is infuriating! It wont let you skip some of the mini games or HOPs but it wont put the items where they belong either until you get irritated, then all of a sudden it finally takes. We would give it less than 3 stars but the developers deserve something for trying.

Game froze in middle of blue disc game in bonus chapter. Cannot recover it. Tried to restart. Still stuck. If we choose to uninstall we will have to start whole game from beginning.

Most games were too easy and one was to exacting to work on our IPhone. Other than that an okay game.

Our game glitched at the radar plug area. We tried for ten minutes, searching the whole area to get the plug to attach, to no avail. So frustrating when you are close to the end. Good luck. Obviously Disappointed filled out their review 3 years ago and they still havent fixed it.

Stories aside, there are serious alignment issues in many of the tasks where you have to connect items or align them.

Good story line. Good voice acting. Good visuals. No alternate puzzles, and HOPs are sometimes difficult to distinguish items. Often am not sure what to do next, so use guide often. Puzzle instructions not always clear.

Was very disappointed at the constant inability to use the correct inventory until you try it 10 to even 20 times. And we mean drag it everywhere trying to find the spot. We never played one that had this issue so consistently. Otherwise we liked the plot, scenery and music and it’s three stars because we liked the puzzles much more than usual and there were about three times as many.

We might be alone on this, but custom mode should not be 15 seconds for hints. 5 seconds max. Ruins any game for us and it will be the only reason we dont play. Sometimes if a game is not the best and custom mode is 5 seconds or less for hints, It makes the game totally worth it. Maybe no one else cares about that but us. We rarely see a game that has a custom mode of 1 second, but if a game does, Im sure to buy it.

Wasnt the Big Fish tag line a new game everyday? Its Sept. 4th and looking like no new game for 11 days! Big fish- get your act together!

We were really enjoying the game but then it glitched where the plug needs to be replaced. No matter where on the screen we placed the plug it would not take it, so we had to end the game because we couldnt go further. If you can fix the glitch and let us know we would be happy to change rating…

The the thethe sound keeps cutting in and out. Just like this doesnt work.

Having more fun than we’ve had in a long time. We have terminal heart failure and this is something we can still do. Thank you and God bless you all. Ps- we just now found out we had to pay to play from that point. Disappointed… But not really surprised.

Very frustrating game! Objects have to be placed precisely or wont work. Stupidly simple games to just guesswork. And whats with having to do everything three times?!? Dont waste your time, money, or energy!

Even with hints, it is glitchy. Tap in and around the area we are supposed to and nothing happens. We cannot get past the car with the winch on front no matter what we do. DELETE.
