Sid Meier’s Railroads! Reviews

Always liked this game, still do. Please add more content! Thanx.

Loving it already. Thank you for this one!

Im so glad they brought this game out for IOS.I,played this game for hours when it originally came out for windows. Dont mind paying for this one. If they keep bringing the good ones out like this we will go broke LOL.

Same as on the Mac, really well done port. Runs super fast, only real downside is the battery life it drains from the iPad but thats to be expected. Please more of these ports, we need real games on iPad!

Great game! Glad its on mobile now vs PC. This is our go-to game when we want something to beat in a short time.

A beautiful, faithful import of the original game with much appreciated quality of life improvements. Fantastic game!

We originally played Railroads back in 1991 when it was called Sid Meiers Railroad Tycoon. When we switched to iOS we always looked for a game similar to that amazing Sid Meier game, without any luck. We were surprised to see Railroads in the App Store, and to top it off its made by Feral Interactive, our favorite developer. Feral Interactive brings console quality games into the iOS world. The new Railroads did not disappoint! Many aspects of the game we actually remembered from the original. One main thing we realized as we relearn the game is that the complexity is still there, its not watered down for iOS but its easy to learn. You control your trains deciding what cars are needed to pickup and delivered goods to various citys. If a city needs steel to make cars you deliver steel to that city. Another train can pickup the manufactured cars and deliver them to a city that needs them, along with any other needs the city has. Buying various industries drives the citys needs, fulfilling those needs is what grows your empire. Controlling stock helps drive wealth. Selling stock helps fund projects when you need cash, buying back stock strengthens and grows your empire. Theres so much to this game we could spend hours reviewing its nuances but we want to get back to playing our favorite game from our favorite developer.

We remember when this game came out on PC. It was the last installment of the Railroad Tycoon series. It is just like we remember and plays really well on iPad. Lots of fun. Our only complaint about this game, and its a complaint we had when it originally came out, is the laughably tiny maps. It takes no time to conquer the map, especially with 3 players. We dont know why that change was made from the large maps of older games. We wish there were more Railroad Tycoon and Transport Tycoon games!

THIS is what IOS games used to be Just hours of absolute fun with no Nickel and dime charges we used to love this game on PC when we originally came out and Im thankful to Feral for bringing it back for IOS without changing it!

Thought the transition was going to be hard. But its so easy to play and brings be back to our childhood!!!!

So happy that Feral brought this to iPhone! Been waiting so long for this game to be portable so thanks so much for taking a great game and bringing to IPhone! Definitely recommend to all train enthusiasts and gamers! Wanted to ask a question to developers. We have all sounds effects up to the max, but the train whistles and any talking at the stations (like all aboard) we can barely hear, both of these were louder on the PC version. Is this something we can make louder? Or maybe a glitch that can be fixed? Thanks again!

We’ve been playing this game for YEARS. One of our all time absolute favorites! Feral, you all have done an amazing job at porting this classic, so job well done!

It’s great to see such a good railway construction game ported to mobile, hopefully there will be many better updates in the future!

Keep it up, we are enjoying these PC games on iOS.

Great game and beautiful port! Please please please do a port of Sid Meiers Pirates! Its a great classic that was on iOS before the switch to 64 bit. Anyways again great game and thank you for yet another excellent mobile game.

Buy and play, the way games used to be, the way game should be! In 1991 while attending college (yeah Im that old) we still remember shopping in Comp USA for a new game and said this looks interesting, it was Civilization for DOS, the first one, and we got hooked and our friends too! It was $40, equivalent to $90 in 2023, and we went on to buy Colonization but it was just ok. That was all a lot of money back then and we never chanced Railroad Tycoonnever played it on the PC, but Im hooked on this iPad game with a 12 screen! Amazing graphics and port of the game! Well worth the $14 or whatever it was to play endlessly! It does take some learning, we started getting frustrated at first because it was not completely intuitive to us and no good tutorial, but if you to go help there is a guide that will take you to a series of short YouTube videos. That was the ticket to Railroad Tycoon! (No pun intended) Get it! Watch the videos to learn, and have fun! Well worth it!

We loved this on PC when it was new and was pleasantly surprised to see how well it plays on iPad. Now we hope for expansion scenarios.

Crashes with regularity on an iPad 9.

Spent a few hours on our first game, eventually tracks stopped appearing, and later the game crashed and no saves would load without crashing, even old ones well before the initial crash. If that happened on our first game this clearly wasnt baked long enough. Not wasting our time on a second play only to have it potentially be for naught.

Guy this game is boring come back with more company of heros please. We will pay for the update with more levels. Maybe another group/ Country.

IPad with mouse connected keeps asking, use mouse, or no? Low batt warning can provoke it, multitasking can provoke it. Sometimes, the popover is not accessible or does not grant mouse access. IPad Pro with Magic Keyboard and iPadOS 16.4. Game itself also contains some bugs that may have existed in PC prior to port multiple issues laying track, especially when constructing double track lines. Trains dont always route well or use the available track. Blocking opponents in during early game can prevent them from connecting a city, making stock purchase impossible, leading to a score penalty. Aside from the bugs, the overall game is fine, but not special. No incentives or logging for victory conditions. Simplified economy and small maps with low-grade AI opponents. RRT3 remains a better version of SM RR Games. Yay, its great to have another port on another device. But does that make it worth the $13 current asking price? Nah. Wait for a sub-$5 sale, or just play this game on PC.

Spent $13 and a solid hour trying to get started. Never could make money. We dont get it. We wont be returning to play again. Shouldve went to a movie instead. Graphics look great.

Parallel track laying is full of really poor programming bugs. It removes any joy one might have had. The original track laying is mediocre although it doesnt have so many glaring bugs.
