Description
PLANT, IRRIGATE, AND GROW BAMBOO… BUT WILL YOU BE ABLE TO SATISFY THE APPETITE OF THE GREEDY IMPERIAL PANDA?
The Japanese emperor has called the very best gardeners in the empire to compete for the complicated task of caring for his sacred panda. Only the gardener with the very best plots of bamboo will be able to satisfy this picky animal!
Plant a bamboo forest around the emperor’s pond. Cultivate and irrigate your plots to grow all the types of bamboo the panda loves.
To beat your rivals, make improvements to your plots: build irrigation channels or add fertilizer to accelerate the growth of your bamboo… and pray that the weather is favorable!
The player who completes the most objectives wins the game. Only one gardener can win the emperor’s favor… So grab a rake!

They knocked this out of the park, design-wise. Gorgeous graphics and cute animations. People that are rating based solely on a few remaining bugs are missing the point – they will solidify the code over the next few weeks and this will be a must own. Glad we bought it!
Finally an app for this game! We were so excited to see this. The game runs smoothly for us. We usually play against the AI. Takenoko is such a fun game. There is more strategy to this cute game than you would think at first glance. The multiple ways to earn victory points and the ever changing board (tiles) make for good replayability. We are now addicted.
We recommend this app if you have the actual board game.
Edited: Its a good adaptation of the original board game. That being said it could use some bug fixing. We’ve had the A. We just not take there tern forcing us to start over. We’ve also had the game randomly start playing tiles on tip of ones already tiles. Pros: You can play Takenoko on the go. It looks nice. And its fun. Cons: its a bit buggy & Its vary annoying to have to press the OK [its our turn] button when your only playing against A.I.
Our friends and we have been waiting for an app version of this game forever, so we rushed to download it when it finally came out. Its gorgeous, and we love the Help Panda as we havent played in about a year (hubby doesnt do board games, and our board game crew lives five states away). But it has several problems that are really barring it from living up to its full potential: 1) Online version hangs. Our friend was able to make her move, the game tells us its our turn, but when we make a move, it tells us Error: Not Your Turn. It allows us to play our actions, with the error message each time, but does not register on our friends side. 2) No ability for single player? Im not seeing an AI option. 3) When we attempt to purchase the Chibi expansion, the game tells us Purchase Failed. Come on, Asmodee, give us the solid app experience we’ve come to expect from you and let us get some pandas the bamboo they so desperately want!
This is such a fun game, but we really wish theyd fix all the glitches!! It freezes up or starts playing our turn for us, which is so frustrating.
*The rules state that when you play the gardener any irrigated adjacent piece will grow a bamboo- this game does not do that. *There is no AI to play against. There are a few other things like that as well we will come back and write after we play again to ensure Im explaining it correctly.
Its such a beautiful game but it chooses when to glitch and when not to. The AI will glitch by not finishing their turn. Then on our turn the action selection icons will not appear so Im just stuck. We love that they allow you to try the expansion chibis! But we cant buy it or play with it because of the glitches. Once this is updated Im sure itll be a wonderful experience. From the games we could actually play, its an amazing adaptation of the board game.
Game is almost unplayable with no undo function (that we could find). Way too easy to misplace or move something while simply trying to slide the game board around to see it through the clouds,storms,whatever.
This game stinks. You start with the 3 same cards every game. The online play is non existent, we’ve tried to create several rooms for friends and none have been able to find the created room. The game also seems rigged against you. After the first couple of rounds the A.I. Players satisfy their tasks every round after that which isnt very realistic. This a really a poor execution of our favorite tabletop game.
We were really excited to see a mobile app for this game. Unfortunately, its just not very well executed. Game flow is very slow with no option to speed through other players actions when playing against the AI. User interface is also missing some basics – there is no back option for example when you click on an action, so if you accidentally click the panda action instead of the gardener, for example.. Too bad, youre moving the gardener. You start with the same three cards every game. No option to reopen a existing game – you close the app, you have to start a new one. We havent been able to complete a full game after multiple tries.. Something always goes wrong (see UI comments above) or we just lose patience.
We were so excited to see this game in an app because its one of our favorites it let us play the first two or three games and then all it does is glitch and we havent been able to play since. The game is beautiful we love the animation but you cant play.
At first we didnt believe the bad reviews. Worked perfectly for about 2-3 days, 1v1 vs the AI (maybe 30 or so games). Then this morning it just stopped working. We cant get beyond the AIs first turn, the game freezes (or rather the AI freezes, the graphics and screen remain fluid). Disappointed because up til then, this was our new favorite board game app.
When you are logged in to an Asmodee account and playing a local game the turn choices do not show up on the right side, so the game is unplayable. If you logout of your Asmodee account and play a local game the game works as expected. We havent tried an online game so we cant say if it has the same issue or not.
We want to like this but it is difficult when the controls and explanations are lacking.
Beautiful game that wont work past the first turn during online play :(
Repeating what others have said, how to get money back? This game does not work properly. After a few turns, AI took over our character and started placing tiles where they already existed and would not allow us to take control back. Another time, it was AIs turn and it did not take any action, so had to quit the game as it was stuck.
This is one of our favorite board games, so we were really hoping for a good app experience. Unfortunately, it is 100% unplayableno exaggeration or hyperbole. It simply does not work at all. The hang up seems to be the transition between turns. Whether youre playing online games or solo games vs AI, the game always gets stuck going from one player to the next. Youre left with no choice but to back out and start a new game. We’ve tried over a dozen times and not once has the game been able to make a full round of turns and come back to the first playerin either solo or online mode. Complete and utter waste of money, which is sad, because the animation and music are perfect. We wish we could play the game we paid for.
The app just isnt up to asmodee standards. Online game hangs up to the point of being unplayable.
We could not accept a game or have our game show up in the search. Hopefully they update it soon.
Online play not working, expansion not buyable, solo vs AI you always get the same 3 starting cards.
Had to purchase to download game. Was eager to play online mode. Signed up with email and it was confirmed. Unable to play. No one seems to be online to play. Unable to play w computer. We would like our money back.
It simply will not advance to the next turn. The ai starts and then does nothing. Worthless.
You cant save the local game, you have to quit. Dont start a local game if you have also managed to successfully start an online one too. Suspending the App will cancel an in progress local game so be prepared to finish a game once you start. Dont start a game if you suspect you might need to use the phone or engage in a text conversation. Will update the rating and edit the review on an update is released.
We try to play and the action menu disappears, therefore we cant play a game. We’ve restarted, reinstalled, etc. Want a refund.
When trying to play against the local AI the game crashes after the player select screen. It used to work and was fun, even though you always get the same starting cards against the AI, but now it just crashes.
Could not even complete a game before it bugged out and played all our turns for us, laying tiles where there were all ready tiles. From the other reviews it looks like this bad boy has a ton of bugs and glitches.
We have successfully confirmed our email several times now, yet the app doesnt recognize that. Our online account is activated and logs us in, but is not communicating with the app after confirming our email.
The game lets you play maybe 2 turns and then automatically makes the next 1-2 turns until it freezes on a computers turn and doesnt make any moves. Was excited to use this instead of buying the standard game. But now we cant believe anyone would put out an app that just blatantly doesnt work at all. Cant ever finish a game.
Please do this game justice and make the app work.
We purchased this game to play online with friends and it doesnt work. Its almost 2020 how do companies keep getting away with releasing games that dont work. This company needs to be fined in someway for releasing broke games and. Not fixing them.
Wonder if it was even playtested lol.
We simply can not play the game. We are red-green color blind and the yellow and green appear so similar to us that we can not tell what the goal cards require. We have played the real board game many times and enjoy it, which is why we bought this. But we just cant play this version. There are no distinguishing patterns on the pieces or cards to help. Oh well, we give up.
The whole game is broken. Will not play at all. We want our money back. Sad cause the board game is so good.
Its a great game to play. Im just sad because the app is so glitchy. When playing online with friends, the games can pause and /or kick players out. We’ve played a handful of games and only have been able to complete very few of the games we play. The rest, we have to time out or an auto-player randomly starts playing for you while youre kicked out and unable to rejoin. Also, sometimes if youre trying to rejoin a game, the game makes you watch every move of the game before you can play live. What a waste of time.
