The Draugr – Card Game Review
![]()
The Draugr is a Card/Puzzle game from RIGEL Initiative Inc, The, first launched in 4th August 2018.
It’s rated 9+ and currently has 9+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes The Draugr Stand Out
The Draugr, reanimated dead imbued with magical powers, have come to the region of Trøndelag seeking to corrupt the town of Stjørdal. Only you, a lone revenant hunter, can protect the town and slay they who walk again.
Armed with limited supply of holy water and iron spikes you enter the town square and prepare for the coming onslaught.
Todd Sanders’ "dreadful" game pits you against any combination of the original 6 Draugr plus the 3 "expansion" Draugr. Optional rules add extra levels of difficulties, and a haunting soundtrack creates a completely immersive experience.
This Card game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Community Insight:
Ive come back to this game numerous times because we want to like it- however it doesnt seem balanced at all, like he just made up random enemies and abilities and there isnt any clear path to victory.
The app is designed well and everything works fine, but we found the gameplay frustrating because two of the strong daugr constantly take away your spikes or waters, many times per game, so you cant build them up enough in time to win the game. You have to kill 4 of the 6 to win. Ive defeated 2, almost 3, but with those two daugr constantly taking supplies away, its near impossible, even on the beginner board. There should be an option to turn off the ability of those two daugr to take your supplies (they could still add corruption, thats fine); in fact, we saw people online who play the board game that way, not letting them take your stuff. Its challenging enough without that and would be more enjoyable. If that option were added in settings, Id try the game again. Until then, Ive deleted it. If you like a hard game, you might like it, but this seemed a bit unbalanced to us. Still, they did a good job designing the app, it does work well in every other way.
So many games mimic each other. The Draugr is great for gamers tired of it all. All it would take to make it perfect is tooltips from long presses that show additional info for the new Draugr. Dont worry, if you get bored of the same old board just turn off the top option under Options.
This is one of our favorite games by designer Todd Sanders. A simple rules set means that one can start playing very quickly. The player has to make meaningful choices each turn, and the playtime is relatively quick. We highly recommend this puzzle game. It is a great value for the cost :).
A nifty game, but too many bugs. On iPad 3, every time we hit undo or the info button, the app crashes to the main screen. Tokens on cards may persist after this crash, but they may become invisible if they don't vanish altogether. This has lots of promise, but for now it's tough to play.
