Great adaptation of board game. Ai in battles needs work but fun to play nonetheless.

This does an excellent job of mimicking the board game. When playing AI opponents, two will be hopelessly bad and one will play a decent game, though not an expert game. We assume this is meant to mimic the different playing strengths you find in real life. We see complaints about the dice rolls. We get the same kind of rolls in real life, and part of the game is taking into account the fact that die rolls CAN seem wonky. Normal variation can give strange results. You can choose the AI opponents if you want a quick game. Word of warning if you get into a live non-timed game, your opponents might make only 1 or 2 moves a day. If you want a regular game where you start and finish it in one sitting, insist on a timed game.

We’ve been playing Titan since early 80s on a board. We’ve gone thru 2 game sets, because they worn out. This is a great version, and we’ve played over 1500 games. Love playing our nephew online, as we live in other states. Please keep the support for newer devices!

The game is excellent, been playing for a year with friends online. Unfortunately the servers are down as of 11/22/2020. Hoping they will be restored so we can continue online play. Big thanks for this game.

We have the original hard copy of this game, and this mirrors it pretty well. Outstanding for the tablet!

Indeed this is a fantastic port of an old favorite. Really catches the complex and nuanced rules of the board game, and by taking care of the bookkeeping games take a small fraction of the time the physical game would take. Graphics really capture the physical game, they look sharp and polished. Even the music and sound effects fit. The AI tactics, even on max setting, do leave some to be desired. Very reckless with their Titans, so they elim over silly battles/moves that most human players would avoid. We haven’t experienced any funny business with the dice, but just like IRL the dice/RNG can be frustrating. I’d still play/buy again, and I’d recommend to any fans of the game. 5 out of 5 for a $5 board game port.

Used to play this game with the old Avalon Hill box game. Those games would take 6-7 hours. This app takes less than an hour although the AI isn’t that smart. Very fun strategic options on two different levels – board play and battle.

The ONLY place Id recommend improvement is the dice dont seem random.

We have played many many games of Titan otb a and via email since the mid 80s. Weak ai not withstanding, this is a very well made interface for a quirky yet lovable board game. The network gameplay works very well albeit not perfectly and will satisfy the needs of any group of players who love the game.

This app mimics the original game very well. Our only complaint is the lack of true randomness in the dice, which is very apparent sometimes.

Graphics, Masterboard representation, creature art, rules are all excellent. Didn’t give it a 5-Star yet as the random seed generator is off for dice rolling, also the AIs need maturing. Have played many games since downloading this. Thanks to the developers!

Its a really good game. But, we would like to see some improvements. First, the dice algorithm as noted by others needs major improvement. It doesnt seem random. Second, we wish there was a way to accelerate the battles between bot players. Lastly, there seems to be a bug related to viewing stacks – the stack view pop up window sometimes sticks (wont dismiss).

Was playing 4 or 5 games a day but now crashes after a stack reaches 7 units. Please fix Update: much better. Now if the AI was meaner…

The dice rolling algorithm really is that bad! Most of the time, damage for the round (not individual rolls, but all the attacks for one side) is either extremely high or extremely low. Average damage for the round is the exception rather than the norm. We could give numerous examples. They are not hard to come by. They occur in every game, almost every battle. Its really a shame that the dice rolling is SO off, because the rest of the is outstanding. Well, not quite. The AI is very weak. But we can overlook that because of the online games with other players. If you can deal with the mind blowing results of a horrible dice rolling algorithm, give it a try. But dont be surprised when the dice dont act anything like you would expect.

This is one of our top three board games of all time. We’ve played for decades now and want so much to love this app. Indeed, it is very well done and captures the game well. But theres one major problemthe die rolling algorithm. We’ve debated with people about this problem so many times, but people either dont understand statistics well or just dont want to know. The people who do know statistics will claim that the dice are evenly distributed throughout the game. Yes, look at the die roll counters at the end of the game and it appears that way. But in the middle of the game the dice get stuck. You roll abnormally high counts of the same number, and it causes you to either win big or lose big. Unfortunately we seem to be on the side of the lose big too often. No, we dont think the game is out to get us or that there is anything sinister in the algorithmthats just the way it goes, but its caused us to ragequit and delete the app for years. We then come back and its the same issue over and over and over again. One great recent example: our Archangel against a Serpent. The Archangel completely misses the serpent (9 rolls only needing 2s, roll all 1s) and the Serpent kills our Archangel with one hit (18 rolls needing 6s, got 10). This is a strategy game that does have a luck element; however, strategy should beat luck the majority of the time. Sure, youll lose the occasional battle by luck, and thats fine. But when it happens over and over and over and over and over againthats frustrating and just plain no fun. For those that doubt, keep track of ALL die rolls in the game for all players for three games. Dont just look at the end results, look at what happens in EACH battle. Thats where youll notice the huge number of statistical anomalies, not just seeing things average to the mean in the end. Averaging to the mean doesnt mean fair, particularly if one person rolls an overload of 1s, 2s, and 3s and the other rolls an overload of 4s, 5s, and 6s. Looks average in the end but obviously is not. If you dont collect your own evidence to see this in action then please dont comment that the die rolling is fair. Its easy to see that it is not.

Whatever algorithm youre using is insane at times. The rolls average out at times but it doesnt take into account insane swings in rolls early on that will skew any and all results at the end. Troops that should hit 4/6 or even 5/6 miss completely and once the fight is lost, that same troop or even entire platoons of troops roll fantastically regardless that the battle or even game is lost.

We really have tried to like this game, but the developer did a crap job on everything but the graphics. Rather than build a decent AI, the developer simply has his cheat. It doesnt roll for movement randomly, but rather assigns itself the number that gives it the best muster every turn, and gives you the worst possible muster. And the die rolling algorithm is completely rigged. Try attacking a Titan with anything but a skill 4 creature, and youll wiff every time. All your combat rolls are low, while for the AI theyre always high. Multiple emails to the developer have only resulted in him saying theres nothing wrong with the game, which is blatantly false. We used to teach statistics at the university level and have analyzed the die rolling algorithms in the game and they are neither random nor fair. If you like nice graphics, its a great game. But unless you want to play against a blatantly cheating AI, avoid this game. Its not completely crap, only mostly crap.

Been playing Titan board game since early 1980s. Digital version has deep failings. The die rolling algorithm is used poorly in 2 ways, 1) It systematically discriminates against the live player (failed to roll an even number in 17 tries), and when playing against the AI, it consistently provides the AI the right roll to breed and to attack, but doesnt provide the live player the same fortune. 2) When on battle-boards, there are far too many outcomes in which a 6-2, or 8-2 character rolls 4 or 5 sixes, and where 6-4 characters roll 5 or 6 ones. Also of note, the AIs Titans are far too aggressive on the battle-boards. They move out into harms way too soon and the opponent can simply kill the Titan and win the battle, or game. Unfortunately, in a 3-person AI game, the AIs will often go Titan on Titan early, providing the surviving AI a huge advantage. The AIs make no attempt to keep creatures with breeding potential alive on the battle-boards to have a chance to breed a more powerful creature at turn 4. They are usually wasted in the first 2 turns, making the outcome predictable.

Dice algorithm is terrible. Emailed designer and claims the average rolls per thousand is supposed to be average. This is not random lol, just because the average works out. Each roll should be independent of the next and not pattern. He tried to prove it to us by giving us our percentages and they were way off lol. Guy is just stubborn and denied that half the reviews point this out. We are not trolls we legit like the game just fix the dice alg.

After playing the board games for many years and being a very competitive player in the 90s, we had high hopes for this game. The following is written from playing solely in solo mode. It is beautifully render and the UI is very good, unfortunately this is all we can say positively about it. Two main problems – random numbers are way out of line. Either setup or deliberate, the sequences hit very rare results far to often. Far too many 1% to 0.001% statistical chances come up in battle, usually against the human players. Movement rolls are as vey suspect – way too many opening 5 or 2 mulligans following initial 2s or 5s. Tactics are horrible. There is only so much the AIs can do in this type of app, however way to many sitting and letting the other side just shoot them with range strikers (especially warlocks) or striking at much less valuable targets that are just as or more harder to kill. Also tactics appear to have a few subtle differences between how the AI defends vs another AI or human player – example then AI regularly hangs its Titan on and edge front line position, but almost never does vs a human. Tl/dr; Can be funa little but we recommend you do not waste your time or funds on it if you seek a challenging (but not frustrating) or competitive experience.

2018 update: While this game appears to be a good electronic representation of the board game, the developers have a couple of shortcuts that make the game almost unplayable. The dice algorithm used in battle is nowhere near realistic, obviously a shortcut was taken in programming. Since we’ve been speaking out about it, its gotten worse. Dont count on the dice averaging out. Also the AI characters dont act with any intelligence, often suiciding themselves. This is the game that we played and enjoyed for years but got away from, now on our iPad! Great graphics and interface, we took away one star because there is no online component. UPDATE: Now after adding the online play and working out the bugs, the game plays well. We don’t understand the online scoring but that’s probably on us. We have run some analysis of the dice rolls during battle and the algorithm used shows some issues.

We’ve loved this game for well over 20+ years. Really excited to have this digital version for the iPad. The only thing that needs a little tweaking is the battle algorithm and the movement algorithm. The results for both of those can be a little skewed at times and not representative of actual results rolled on actual dice, which changes the strategy and tactics of this version of the game versus the table top version. Other than that, this game is very, very addictive!! Kudos to the developer for all the work in making this game feel and play like the original. The most recent enhancements have added a great deal of convenience (note taking for stack compositions for example). Keep up the great work…. And fix those algorithms!! :)

We’ve loved this game for decades. Thanks for making an online version. We agree with the above statement. It’s a great game. We can now play our gaming friends one hundred miles away in real time.

The app just keeps getting better. This app gets continued love and support to pair with a fantastic implementation of the Avalon Hill Titan Fantasy Monster Slugathon!

Fairly well done and multiplayer thru Game Center works pretty well. Sadly the AI is poor and often WAY too aggressive. Some of the AI players tend to lead with their Titan in battles too, which is horrible. Also doesn’t seem to understand terrain. Will put a lion in bramble and a cyclops in the clear. If AI was better we would give five stars as everything else is good.

The board game, pure and simple, and beautifully done for digital format.

Great version of a old time game fav!

The developers could not have done a better job with this port of one of the best board games ever created. If you played tabletop Titan, you’ll be delighted with this app. If you never played it, there is an exhaustive version of "The Law of Titan" included, and it’s well worth the effort to learn the game. The online play works flawlessly and lets you smoothly fit several simultaneous games to your schedule, you’ll play with a friendly community of user names that will soon become familiar, and the Elo rating system is way cool. Customer support was great, too, the one time that we had a glitch. They nailed this app in every way possible, and the long-term enjoyment is worth several times what they’re charging for it.

Multiplayer needs negotiation.

Overall this application is a good attempt at reproducing a classic.

Remarkably accurate port of a wonderful game, but the weak AI and questionable dice rolls make it very frustrating. The enemy titans are very aggressive and will often attack with little regard for future strategy. They will also lead the charge even when they have an obvious advantage, leading to cheap victories that aren’t very satisfying. This is offset by dice rolls that are obviously weighted in the AI’s favor (three Gorgons attack an Angel and get 0 hits; really?) we could forgive the enemy advantage if it happened less often, but when they are constantly attacking at every opportunity and hitting far more often than chance should allow, it’s hard to ignore. We have yet to try multiplayer, but if you’re hoping for a good single-player challenge you might want to hold off.

Each new update seems to make the AI worse. Units act irrationally, combat is terrible. Game seems basically random. Recent updates are just bad makeup on a poor engine. Save your money.

Well done port of the board game! Very stable. The AI is weak, but, it’s a great way to learn. Playing against others all over the world is great! We love the async (non-timed) option. We can play 10 games at a time, at our convenience.

Very nice UI. We’ve been addicted and playing a lot lately. Worth the price.

Love this game! We play it every day! Worth owning an iPad for!

The added ranking system through Apple’s Game center is the missing touch that Titan always needed and none of the other online Titan reproductions have. However, this one doesn’t give more than 1 turn worth of history and is incomplete information. Very much like FTF play, while you went to get a sandwich and missed everything. Online asynchronous play with vast time and multiple parallel games should allow option for a full record or replay of all info. Masterboard hexes are missing the indicators which reveal battleland orientation and entry side. We still have to go double check our actual board game when it really matters.

Was so pleased to find it and was not disappointed. Can’t wait for online play!

Great port of a great board game. We play this version way more than on tabletop.

The title says it, really. Besides the overdone graphics (which can be mostly fixed by a setting in the menu) this is a smooth, well-thought-out implementation of a great Avalon Hill game.

Titan is a marvelous game. Anyone who is a fan of the board game will enjoy this game. The developers did a great job porting the board game to the iPad; the game has all of the playability and features of the board game, however without the nuisances … Faster setup, moving pieces is easier, faster rolls, etc. Our only warning to new players is that Titan is not an obvious game to learn how to play. The App is not designed to "walk you thru" how to play. The app does include the complete Titan instruction manual, so if you are a new player you will need to read the entire manual, or else little in the game will make sense. One surprising feature of the game is how good the AI is. Playing against the computer is reasonably challenging. And, unlike a lot of games out there, the developers did not make the AI difficult by allowing it to "cheat", instead, they coded the AI to be a reasonably intelligent player … At least when you play against the hardest level. We do not have anything negative to say about the game, but we would like to provide a few pieces of feedback to the developers to improve an already fantastic game. On Functionality: we like the pre-battle screen which lays out the units involved with each side. We are frustrated when this screen is not displayed for mandatory battles (such as opposing angels). The pre-battle screen helps us think about our objectives for the upcoming battle. Please include the pre-battle screen for all battles, even mandatory ones. When playing against multiple computer opponents, sometimes we get bored watching them battle against each other. Perhaps have a mechanism to allow us to skip watching battles we are not involved in. Similarly, in multi-AI games, if we die early, we would like to be able to see the statistics on our dice rolls for that game, without having to watch the computer finish the game. On AI: As we said, the AI is remarkable good for this game. A few minors adjustments that we would like you to consider correcting. These are things we have noticed playing on the highest-AI level. The AI has a bad habit of placing the titan in a bad spot on the screen, particularly in Brush and Jungle battles. The titan often goes into the back corner and sits in brush, which is a horrible strategy. We suggest biasing the titan to a non-brush tile. Tower defenses by the computer, especially when the Titan is involved, are poorly done. The enemy titan starts in the center of the tower, but then often runs to the back corner. Allowing the attacker to climb the tower and fire down onto the opposing titan. Consider changing the AI for tower battles so that the Titan stays in the center of the tower. Sometimes the enemy Titan does not do well against range strikers, sometimes just sitting there until a warlock finally takes him down. Try to increase aggressiveness of the Titan against warlocks. Sometimes when the computer has a battle against another AI player, the two sides each get stuck, neither moving, and several turns pass until there is a draw. Consider putting a test in there to force the attacker to move if two turns pass with nothing happening.

This is what a board game adaption is supposed to be. Titan is a fantastic, rewarding, thematic board game, and this is the iOS version that the game and gamers deserve.

This is a stellar port of an awesome game. Monster sluggathon fantasy wargame! Buy it now!

Have such great memories of playing this as a teen in the 80s. Glad to be able to play it again.

We wish the AI would protect the Titan better during battles. Otherwise a good app.

This has been a long time favorite board game among our friends. We would spend weekends playing this games until many moved away. Now we can play again, and thanks to this easy interface, it no longer takes weekends to play.

Except a game doesn’t take 3 hours.

Game seems one sided. AI seems at an advantage. Dice rolls do not seem random enough, again AI advantage. ALSO MUST HAVE Titan HD for MAC… PLEASE…..! ! HAVE YOU READ THIS REVIEW..?!?!?

We will continue to rate this game 3 stars until this reasonable request is met. Despite our hopes through two plus years of playing this game, the developer has never completed any improvements to the terrible single-player AI. Even the simplest of changes to the AI algorithms would make the game significantly more enjoyable in single-player. Changes such as : preventing the Titan from committing suicide, making the tower citadel (actually any wall top) a critical hex to defend, keeping only the strongest units in a Titan army when it splits (no more late game centaur/cyclops armies damnit!), and any number of other suggestions countless other users have recommended in these reviews.
