Will you infiltrate the gods’ Elite Courte, stealing their superpowers, or turn double agent and join them, taking your place among the divine?

"Versus: The Elite Trials" is a thrilling 140,000-word interactive novel by Zachary Sergi, author of our best-selling "Heroes Rise" trilogy. Your choices control the story. It’s entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

In this sequel to "Versus: The Lost Ones," as one of the prisoners trapped on planet Versus, you must vote for who will fight in deadly gladiatorial battles. Thirteen prisoners have formed a voting bloc, the Elite Courte, to ensure that they choose who lives and who dies.

But one of their so-called "gods" has a plan for revolution. Your power to steal superpowers and memories makes you the perfect spy–or the perfect double agent.

MemoryTravel through time and space–keeping one step ahead of the enforcer agents who want you dead. Play the gods against each other in games within games. Design your own planet in the halls of the gods.

On Versus, nothing and no one is as they seem, perhaps not even you.

  • Play as male, female, or non-binary
  • Create a planet and culture in your own image
  • Romance one (or more!) of ten different characters
  • Subvert the corrupt Elite Courte, or join them to suppress rebellion

Best choice of games series we’ve read in awhile. Cant wait for book 3!

A fantastic follow up from the Versus story. We cannot wait for the next addition!

We loved this game and all the others by this author and would absolutely love a third one. We definitely recommend this and the first one if you like sci-fi games.

We wont deny any probability of bias, as we loved Heroes Rise, but we somehow loved Versus even more? The world that has been created is as complex as it is intriguing. We bought both books earlier this week and have already reread the first one to get a certain outcome in the second!

First off, the biggest pro that we see in this game is how the story evolves. The first book focuses more on consistency, with developing the main goals of your character and making consistent choices paramount to succeed. However, the second book, while still making sure you keep consistency, offers you some more flexibility given the politicking scheming side of it. Overall, despite it being a little confusing at times, we find it best to take it at face value. If we dont understand what is being explained, we either read it over or simply look at the choices and see which stat the choices utilizes best. This way, we can take it at face value and just determine which choice coincides with our stat if the explaining gets too confusing. That said, Id recommend it to anyone. Very well done.

We love this game so much, we were so attached to it. To the story we were spending a lot of our free time playing it. It truly gets you immersed and in love with the way it was created. A lot of detail and careful consideration for a variety of scenarios. Was obsessed with this game. We truly hope that the creator makes a third book because Im dying to finish our story. We cannot wait for the third book to be released.

Can’t get enough of either book and also his hero books…. Can’t stand having to wait for next one.

ITS SO GOOD we REALLY WANT TO PLAY MORE.

This game is so great. We love the characters and the choices you have to make that really call into question your real beliefs. We cant wait to read the next one, whenever it comes out!

All of sergis books are wonderful, and all of his characters are compelling. BUT the hardest part about the versus series, in our honest opinion, was refraining from sleeping with breeze and lady venuma so that we could date oli in the second book. Unfortunately, as we decided to join mamanas abolitionist movement, we ended up not even being able to date oli ANYWAY, which was so heartbreaking for us. Im anxiously awaiting the next book! :)

In some of its ways it was highly reminiscent of The Tales from The Borderlands , especially its atmosphere -building, and perhaps even prosaically so; and due to its well implemented story progression we would recommend it even to those new to (unfamiliar with)the genre or without experience playing the prior game. Although if you are well versed in the interactive fiction or adventure games you really shouldn’t miss out on the chance to get the full-er experience (especially in respect to) by starting the story together with your character (-wise) Thank you and (I hope you’ll) enjoy(it as much as we did). Perhaps just one more thing… And on a less enthusiastic/enthused(?) note, personally though we’ll have to admit we did enjoy the previous game a bit more(probably only due to the story’s unique fluidity (("fluidity" executed seamlessly, or jarringly as it may appear to some, intriguing it was no the less for it. Specifically we’re talking about "fluidity" in world building that is… Something you Really Should experience for yourself:) (a mechanic we REALLY hope to see again, and in other game genres as well!!)) and the ever present hairiness of experiencing the story’s replay identically up to a specific point without a backtracking or a chapter specific autosave options… Although it is a rather common theme to be seen in the genre of storytelling games… Still, on the whole (and nonetheless to its creator’s credit) we did have fun with this one as it was a rather engaging expansion of the story. (The duality of immersion, the ever present spectre, a gift and bane in one.) Especially so in regard to its varied characters and their deep layers of motivations and counter … Instincts (in their decisions taken along the available paths, "joint, and separate…" as they may be sometimes, with competing personal agendas (competing) even among a circle of allies with common goals in a given strategic plan for guiding all future action or immediate situation , etc. Etc. ) AZ.

This is one of the absolute best novels by Choice Of Games. Phenomenal writing, character/world building and interesting choices kept us hooked through this second installment. Reading the first novel in the series isn’t necessary, but it will help you understand the game world a bit better, so we do recommend it. Buy both for an excellent interactive sci-fi novel adventure.

We can’t wait until the next book arrives! We want to see where our character finally ends up!

Amazing! Can’t wait for the hero project book two.

We love this game so much. Please, oh, please Lord Zachary make a third one to conclude the best series of all time (or perhaps more..?).

We like the story here because it feels like our choices actually have weight to them.

Very good, can’t wait for more!

We loved it! Although we just wish it was longer. Please hurry up with the next installment!

We loved this book and we can’t wait for the next one to come out!!!!

We feel like we’ve read this whole story or played it before when it wasn’t in parts. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter because it’s a great story!

All of mr. Sergi’s games are guaranteed to be a fun, wild ride full of exciting action and enticing characters. The writing is wonderful, as ever, and the choices regarding who controls the planet Versus leave the player hungry for more. We love the inclusivity of the games – truly something you won’t find anywhere else. We eagerly await the next chapter!

So we read this book a while back and for the fans that are wondering where the third book is read Hero Project: Open Season. Thats your answer we just got done typing a review on that one great game two you have to make a book three please. This a great story game and we’ve been waiting for a book three, and we were pretty patient but now Im not and we need book three now!!!!! Please make another one please!!!

We had been waiting for this for a year and we wasn’t disappointed. We think it stands up to its predecessor.

We’ve played a lot of these games and this series is by far our favorite. The world-building and writing are amazing and all of the characters are so unique. We bought this game the second we were notified it was available. This is definitely the most creative game we’ve ever played.

The author really outdid himself with the creative and compelling story telling in this book, in addition to the great writing that we’ve come to know and love. This was a breath of relief after reading the HP: Redemption book that came out prior as that was a major disappointment for us. Really looking forward to the rest of this series!

Firstly, please write more! Secondly, we’ve never loved a fictional character as much as Lockdown, we also love how much we’re able to customize our character, that’s something we don’t find in many other choice of games. It’s really original compared to the more traditional romantic games, we never thought we would love something so silence fiction but it just works! We highly recommend everyone gives it a try!!!

Love this series, waiting for the last one to come out.

Great ideas. Great writing. Makes us want to read more! Loved it.

We enjoyed all of the Heroes stories that’s been written by this author and we’ve come to enjoy Versus as well. There’s so much depth to the character you create and how it represents your own desires. We love delving into the lore and learning about all of your fellow Versians and their motivations. We were really touched by Grog’s decision to save his people if he managed to become Reborn. Apart from this, we honestly would just replay this story over and over to go through the Wone chapters over and over again. Great work!

Engaging story, but after playing several times, feel there are very limited choices in comparison to other books of his.

After hearing rave reviews from our friends about The Heroes Rise Series & VERSUS: The Lost Ones, we had to try Elite Trials — and we LOVE it!! The rich story will surprise and delight you throughout a riveting adventure while simultaneously exploring the kind of compelling and complex characters we’ve only previously experienced in our favorite novels. We’re excited to check out everything else this talented writer has to offer!

Hoped it was a bit longer but we are looking forward to book 3.

Pretty cool, usually dont write reviews but that little nod to Beyonce was a bit corny and hilarious. Beyhalo? Lol do better.

All of Z’s games are unbelievable and the Versus series is our favorite. They also leave us with so much to think about and we love that they involve so many characters (and romantic options ;)) Love, love, love Versus and we hope to see more games like it!

We’ve played tons and tons of Choice Of games. However, Zachary Sergi always remains the top of the top in our heart. He proves it again with this fantastic installment in the Versus series. So many branching paths that will make you want to replay again and again, and perhaps the most complicated stats screen in any game before. We cannot recommend this experience more.

Hands down our favorite series in all of LLC! Can’t wait for next installment!

Like heroes this is a great read. The effort put into it is nothing less than magnificent. Sadly, at times the writing could be more detailed. At other times it seems confused. Perhaps due to the enormity of the work, the author tried to put in. Also the gender bending and abbreviated writings tend to get old and make following the story difficult at times as it tends to pull the reader out of the story until you get used to it. All the little things that need tweaking resulted in this being rated at a 4 out of five. You can certainly replay this.

Great follow up to book one, still has us wanting more! Time for the year wait for book three unfortunately. If you are hoping to have the same "need for more" you got from book one this will do it. The say the story itself is ….. "deep" is a understatement. If you are looking for a easy read this book will be a little more than you might want, but don’t let that steer you away. Please give it a chance rather than go off our word.

After waiting a whole year, not a whole lot actually happens in this chapter. It’s a lot shorter than the 1st one, and it FEELS short too. Earth shattering revelations are thrown at you one after another, but there’s very little downtime in between to dwell on these revelations, before you’re punted to the next one. As always, the writing is phenomenal, the world building and imagination are as engrossing as ever. Which makes it all the more disappointing that so little time is spent playing in this wonderful world laid out for you. Much ado is made about the choices you make and how monumental each one is, but there are very few all in all and consequences are nuanced, or left out entirely to the next book. You will be reminded about your goals almost every other page, and there are actually quite a number of possible goals to choose from, so prepare to be infuriated when you discover that "choosing" is pretty much all you accomplish in this book. Everything you do here boils down to one choice, with a thousand words thrown in enumerating the ramifications of your choice. And then the game ends. It’s not as fun to read as you would think. Character interaction is ultimately unsatisfying too. Large swathes of screen time is placed on a few old and new characters, and what is present is revealing more than affecting, but don’t expect to see anyone you care about, as they will likely either have only a few lines of flat exposition or be absent entirely. That goes for romances too. We romanced Breeze initially, though we had planned to ditch him in favor of Oli in this book. We were hopeful when the text assured us that we could engage in just that scenario. Unfortunately, that was also meant for the next book, as Oli had nothing for us but more exposition and Breeze is only present for a few paragraphs, in none of which we could dump him as promised. There’s plenty of balance issues in this game, which is far more a novel than its predecessor, with far more story and world building than character interaction and actual events. If you’re a sci fi buff, you will love every word, but for us sadly we had expectations that weren’t fulfilled, and now must wait a year for the story to actually get going rather than just "promise" to get going.

You don’t even get a vote. Not enough player involvement in important events.

We usually love ZS’s games so we’re having a hard time figuring out why this game in particular just doesn’t work for us. We guess it feels like we’re still doing a lot of literary (and literal) world building and not really following the main plot as much. If anyone asked us what the plot of this game was, we would have to shrug; a lot happened but none of it contributed to a coherent overall story, unlike the first game where we could tell you the plot. If the goal was to feel like a detective story, it missed the mark by a lot, which is really disappointing and very unlike the usual quality we see from these games. We’re still going to keep hoping the next game makes sense of this one, but it will be with less enthusiasm for sure.

Honestly, we loved the Hero Project books and the first Versus game, but this sequel gives you no choices, it is a linear plot line that drags the reader along a narrow path. If you are looking for meaningful impact, alternate endings, and differing scenarios this game is not for you. Basically a book, that is more like a technical instruction manual for half of it. Don’t get this.
