Find out what gamers are saying about Wars and Battles – Strategy & History:

A surprisingly good game. Worth every penny.

Lots of fun, really evokes the feel of board war gaming but also very easy to get into; would happily recommend it to anyone with an interest in strategic games and/or history even if they had no war gaming experience. Love all the history packed in – the daily briefings, unit histories, equipment profiles etc. Currently there are battles for the 1973 Arab-Israeli October War and the 1944 invasion of Normandy (D-day), but others are in the works. Will be interesting to see how well the engine translates to older battles like Austerlitz and Gettysburg, but we’re hopeful.

This is just a fantastic war game. Graphics are very good right down to the history of each unit and equipment piece. Game play is solid with a good amount of strategy. There a few issues like text getting cutoff in the events in the journal and large explosions graphics that are black polygons (hardly ever see it). But these minor issues are just that, minor…. And rare. If you like historical war gaming then you’ll love this. Can’t wait to play the other WW2 and civil wars battles that are coming soon.

One of the only games on any platform to address the Arab-Israeli conflicts. We cant wait until the Korean War scenario is complete. We hope the developers continue to add content and continue to address conflicts that are ignored by most games.

More games and more features, please!

Plays well on iPad and is very reminiscent of board games without the hassle we look forward to the new modules.

We have been playing hex-based S&T/AH games for 50 years, and this is really super!

Cant say we are a game expert but we love playing this while kickin back on the sofa and relaxing.

So many good games but this one had a chance to be great! Ahead of its time, needs to be finished.

This is a good turn-based game that’s easy to start and calls for good strategic and tactical thinking.

Still a bit early for a review after only 4 battles. So far so good. Maybe a little easy so far but time will tell and we will update.

Review is based on the first two basic modules only. The game looks and plays great. The units and maps are beautiful, and the developers are very devoted, and nice helpful folks as well. We love the selection of battles, and look forward to each new release. So whats our problem? We would say its the tiny battlefields, and how the combat works. The historic write-ups, and pictures of the units are in wonderful, and really get you in the mood for the battle. The fighting though really negates any differences in the battles or units, its just combat factors. Basically you just create big stacks and butt them up against your opponent. There is no maneuvering, breakthroughs, or cutting supply, its operational battles on tactical sized maps. Maybe the older battles will open things up. We would suggest; enlarging the maps, making the units smaller, or enforce stacking limits to open things up. If someone who has purchased the additional content says things are different, we would like to see your review, thanks.

If you are looking for a deep, engaging turn-based hex-and-counter wargame on iOS, here you go, plenty of depth and with a rules set that covers everything you’d expect, but with enough folded into the background that even newbies should be able to get playing fairly quickly. WW2 in Normandy and Arab-Israeli October War or covered extensively with loads of smaller scenarios and big campaigns, all historical and well-balanced. Good graphics, clear without being cartoony. AI is better in small games, but the larger battles are where the game really shines. The UI takes some getting used to — how to examine stacks of units, or how to add support to a combat — but everything becomes clear with a few plays. IAP gets you bigger scenarios and is well worth it. It runs smoothly on both an iPad 3 and Pro. The only reason this review is missing the fifth star is because there are problems with online multiplayer. This game would be so great playing human opponents. We think this is a big reason that the game remains so underrated, if online play was active, there would be a bigger following. It has been long time since an update, but the third installment, the Eastern front battle of Kharkov, is near complete. Hopefully the developers will continue to support this excellent game.

Disappointing. We watched straight leg infantry run clear across the map in a single turn to capture an objective. It was further than any of the armored units could even move. Silly. Unrealistic, and each battle is completely dependent on how many units are stacked and in contact. Artillery is indecisive. Still cant figure out how to call for air support, as it is not apparent. Got bored after six games and stopped.

Bad pricing model. Our fault for not checking, but now it will be a while until we play as we don’t feel we have the full product for either Normandy or 73. Disappointed by that alone.

Cant save if you dont register. Then if you go to register online, guess what? You cant.

While the game is quite good, basically all the upcoming updates are lies. We’ve been told via email multiple times for years. Other things have priority and soon. Clearly a lie. A waste of a very good game. Dont waste your money.

We would give this game 4.5 stars, if not for the fact that we feel completely ripped off. There are only a few short campaigns, with most all the content marked as "coming next," or "under construction," etc. Never happened, and apparently it never will. As it stands, this game is not worth the investment of time and purchase price to have a game that is basically over before you even get a good feel for it. Of course, you are free to play the same few minor campaigns over and over, if that type of repetitive tedium appeals to you. THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF THE APP STORE, IT IS UNFINISHED AND UNSUPPORTED!!! BEWARE!!!

Nice game but ours keeps on crashing every time we try to load the fourth battle.

Great game but abandoned by devs. In game purchasing nonfunctional. No additional content. No forum support. No updates…. Completely ghosted…. Game should be removed from the App Store.

One of the few games we are glad we paid. No pay to win, honest up front charge with additional scenarios to purchase if you are enjoying yourself. The mechanics of battle are seemingly simple but there is plenty of depth if you want to micro manage. Excellent.

War games are improving on iPads. Being a fan of war games, we’re becoming increasingly optimistic about it’s future. It’s always been a tiny (but enthusiastic) niche in board and computer games, but if titles as well built as this one continue to get published, it will grow. Until a few years ago, all wargames on computers were acade-style. This one (and a few other titles) are changing that in a big way. This is a real wargame. One you can crunch numbers and develop real strategies and tactics. Bravo!! We hope people support titles like this, because they are harder to develop, but are intelligent, immersive experiences. With new battles coming out at a regular clip, this game will create new wargames in boardgame form, also.

The game play is clean, smart, and crisp. It has a great feel to it. We successfully jumped right in after we got it as the system is very intuitive. Each scenario gave us a good fight that was enjoyable and good fun. There are a few glitches that we’ve heard are being fixed. Other than that, we have no complaints and feel that we will be playing this game for a long time, especially with the expansions that are planned for it. Games like this are the reason we’re an ipad-only gamer these days.

Awesome game but a couple of items need improvement and cost is a little too high. App should be free and should come with one section free. Then $10 per additional area would be more tolerable. Also as far as a gameplay, an undo move is needed. However has lots of reply value and great visuals.

Great game system but really needs an undo move command. It’s too easy on a touchpad to make wrong moves. Also needs the ability to set up private email games. We’ve twice had someone join a game we created before the person we wanted to play could join.

We enjoyed playing the Normandy Battle, and with that the October War. Yet now, we can’t buy any advanced scenarios or the general scenarios, as the purchasing stats in a continuous loop. On that note, we can’t load our Normandy General scenario, this is very disappointing. If these are fixed we will change our rating to five stars.

We bought the basic W&B app 6 or so months ago and played a few of the basic scenarios but became distracted and set it aside until just a couple of days ago. We bought the Normandy package and let us just say that this is a first rate wargame somewhat reminiscent of Unity of Command, but with better graphics, rules and scenarios. We’re very impressed with the game system and its modeling of the different weapons systems. There’s a lot of meat under the seemingly simple procedure that contains a lot of tactical choices. We certainly haven’t mastered it yet. Can’t wait to try the whole campaign game. Kudos to Kermorio on a very remarkable product. Looking forward to more games in the series.

We enjoyed the game before the update but didn’t play it much as, well, there are a lot of WW2 games out there. But we’ve never seen a game about the Yom Kippur War. Impressive detail in the game, yet easy to play. We didn’t try to buy the whole campaign yet, so we didn’t notice the IAP issues. And things are running very smoothly for us. Saw this morning that they are submitting a fix for that and other complaints. It took a long time coming, but we are thankful for this big update providing something really new. We’re a little skeptical about their timeline for the next games, but we are looking forward to them too. Especially the Korean War.

Great tactical game better than most CPU games of the same kind. The only reason we’re giving it 4 stars is because the October War came out late and maybe not finished as much as they wanted. There isn’t as much history and just like in the first campaign the tutorial system gets massively in the way. Also trying to register for MP and get a response from the company is slow/non-existent.

W&B is a very solid entry into the market. It will be interesting to see how it holds up in other settings, but for now it certainly scratches the war game itch. The lack of undo (pre-combat) is uncalled for, but not any kind of a game breaker. Could a sandbox mode be in the future?

The game, as others note, is quite excellent unfortunately, to create saves beyond the auto save you need to register. Which would be ok, except that the developers seem to not send the necessary confirmation emails, well, ever. EDIT: After the update, we can no longer buy anything, like the October War module. And still, zero support or communication from the developer.

Enjoyed Normandy battle but this latest update freezes when Sagger attack with only two Arab tanks on first scenario. Will update stars when fixed.

We downloaded and attempted to purchase the October War campaign, but the game locked and would not time out during the purchase. Closing the program did not clear the lock. We uninstalled the program and now, after restoring our Normandy campaign purchase, can not load the Normandy Campaign scenario. The scenario loads to the 2/3 point of the progress bar then stops. Uninstall/Reinstall does not help….

IOS and it’s developers are on a fast track to oblivion. Yet another game update that ruined the game itself. Can’t even purchase the IAP that this update is all about… We assume an update for the update is near… Isn’t that what the apple snobs always whined about windows etc … ?

Read and understand the manual… Then off to the races! Great game filled with action, accurate portrayal of historical units involved, and sublety.

As others have said, if you are a hex and counter wargamer, this will provide plenty of enjoyment. If you are not, and the game looks interesting at all, give it a try! Excellent adaptation for touch, 3D if you want it, air and artillery support that are easy to understand and use, panzers, it’s all here. Fun and challenging for any old-school wargamer . We look forward to future titles in this series.

Having played wargames for over 25 years, we are having alot of fun with this one. Seems to really be designed for a mobile device. Had an account setup problem, they responded quickly within 24 hrs. AOL users be aware. AOL blocks their verifing email, it does not even end up in spam. If you have an AOL email you also may have to reach out to them for an account set up…..

This app reminds us of the old AH and SPI games we used to play as a kid. We can’t wait for the rest of the titles in the series.

Our previous review referenced a registration issue which has now been fixed although it took about a week for the developers to respond. This game really captures the classic tabletop wargame feel. The graphics are very good, The counters provide all the information we need, the UI is really well executed and we haven’t experienced any crashes or bugs. There is a good variety of scenarios and the AI plays a pretty solid game for games of this type. There are some issues that would prevent us from giving it a full five stars however: First is the lack of an undo feature. In tabletop games it is customary to allow the moving player to take his move back unless he has moved another piece or triggered some hidden mechanic. We wish this was the case here. The second issue is that there is only one saved games slot which seems to us very curious because storage is so cheap and plentiful. We would like to play several concurrent scenarios but we can’t.

Basic move and shoot en masse tactical game with nice graphic and historical backdrop. Thumbs up.

This game is quick, challenging and rewarding when one issuccessful . We keep coming back for more.

If you’re a fan of war games this is the mobile one you’ve been waiting for. Initial purchase includes main campaigns for current and future battles. An additional 10 bucks unlocks advanced/larger scenarios and is well worth the price.

Best war game on IOS. Enough said.

This game is surprisingly deep. The mechanics are simple but the objectives and time limits make play challenging. The graphics are fine and the campaigns cover many battles. Well worth the price. Jim Cobb.

This game is not only gorgeous and easy to learn and play, it also has tremendous depth. We own most of the turn based "serious" wargames on iPads, and this is one of our top 3.

We’ve played most of the games in the campaign so far, so we have a good sense of the gameplay. This is an enjoyable game with nice historical elements included, such as the identification of the actual historical allied vs axis units which participated in the Normandy campaign, with battle accounts of every unit. Nice graphics and animations of the various tank, infantry, and artillery units which were engaged in the campaign. The gameplay was reasonably challenging within the time constraints of the different scenarios. Issues of ‘fatigue’ of the units and the impact this has on their status during a battle should be better clarified, as does the various modifiers which affect attack/defense ratios. What, for example, is a ‘field defense’? Hopefully such issues can be resolved in the next patch. We recommend this game to fellow wargamers–fun, challenging, and a good historical recreation of the Normandy campaign.

This is a very nice effort, with a solid gaming engine, a challenging A.I., and a good feel for the problems of strategy and tactics. The idea of using this gaming engine across many different wars and eras is an excellent one; we think this system has the potential to be an ideal wargame platform. For this game, we would prefer a few more customizations: for example, the initial zoom into the desk could easily be done away with, but in all, lovely work. Strong recommend.

As far as gameplay goes, it’s great. It reminds us of the operational level board games of yesterday. This being said, on our iPad 2 it crashes a lot, and we’re often unable to sign in to our account. Once the bugs are worked out–5 stars. Until then, 3!
