Community Insight:
Ive never written a review for apps. But we have this game on our switch, steam account and now iOS and they made this game lightning quick and the graphics are just as good as steam or our switch! There is one thing that we would add though. Mods so we can make our character look even cooler than it already is.
Amazing game. Xcom series is such a classic between enemy unknown, enemy within, and 2. Not to mention the even more classic Xcom games before the new trifecta released. Very underrated by the gaming community.
This is one of our top games of all time, and sometimes this port is even more fun to play on an ipad or something than it is to play on a console. Ive done 2 full runs with this port, flawless. Only thing isI dont know how to start an OG xcom 2 game thats not War of the Chosen.
Ive played this game on almost every platform. Its best on PC, but we still have yet to find any other game that comes close to what this game offers. No other game has come close in this genre. No micro transactions. No stupid gacha. Just buy it already.
We haven't encountered any major bugs yet (only minor graphical glitches) and we're most of the way through our campaign, worth the $15 we paid.
Ferals ports often stumble with touch controls, but not here. XCOM is perfectly suited for IOS and plays great on iPad. Ive beaten it on Commander/Ironman countless times. The only downside relative to PC is that mods are one of the DLCs are missing.
Its unbelievable this game is playable on a phone! Just buy it. You wont be disappointed. If this thing supported mods like the PC version we could play it forever.
Been playing XCOM since the beginning. This version is just as good as Xbox, but on our iPad! Awesome.
Look and feel like the pc version. It is extremely well done and Im not saying this as a huge Xcom fan of yesteryear. Dont even think twice – this is really that good. Thanks to the dev team.
One of the best strategy games created for the iPad. Detailed story, intricate strategy, and very replayable.
Ive been playing this on an iPad since it was released and this is a great turn based game. Its still one of the best. Ever. >> NOTE: Two annoying aspects of the game (1) even though its meant to develop the storyline and explain gameplay & goals, every NPC and their extended family talk way, way too muchparticularly in the middle of a fightand its a shame theres no option to turn those dialogues off after completing a full game. And (2), make sure, if youre playing on an iPad, to check autosave because there may be occasional crashes at the end of long missions; the cutscenes and the interminably chatty NPCs prevent an immediate save so if a crash happens you lose the victory. Autosave will prevent further frustration. Now, go out there and save Earth people.
Ive been an XCOM fan since it first came out. The first game was good but we always felt like it needed more. This games so much better than the first. Irealy enjoyed how much more there was in this game compared to the first. More soldiers, weapons, and in-depth character building is tops. The only thing we have a problem with is that there is not enough rooms to build with all the possible room types. We highly recommend this game if you are a fan of strategy and turn-based games.
We wish Id never heard of this game. We havent done anything productive since starting it. Its straight crack cocaine. We played it on console during lockdown and got hooked. Now Im playing it on our iPhone 13 and its just as good. Our phone heats up a fair bit and the battery life gets chewed up, but its worth it. We have been saving the world from aliens instead of doing actual work and our boss is not happy. Oh well, if we get fired Ill have more time to kill aliens! Fireaxis needs to stop wasting time on that garbage Midnight Suns game and hurry up with XCom 3.
Simply the best game transported to the iPad.
Best mobile game hands down, but we understand why its sitting at a paltry 4.2 when mediocre titles boast a 4.5 and above. Immense patience is required to fully realize the depth of XCOM. If youve got it though, and dont mind getting your behind kicked from time to time, this games immersive story and tone, satisfying battles and addictive progression will snatch you up in a vice grip and not let go until you or the aliens stagger away with a hard-fought victory.
It needs to be on the back bone for the app version as well.
On iPad m1 no bugs or crashes, very solid port, plays great on touch screen. Game itself is one of the best tactical strategies available. You got DLCs and WOTC without additional payment as well Don't listen to bad reviews.
We have prolly 40+ hours on this by now and own the game on switch, pc and PlayStation. This is def our favorite way to play it. Very intuitive and addicting. Perfect platform for turn based games imo. Dont miss out on this experience.
Without a doubt this is hands down the best game on our the App Store. Even better than the Minecraft port. The controls after a few missions become very easy to use and work extremely well. The game is all the DLC including WOTC in one package for a cheap price. No micro-transactions. There is literally no way to spend real money on the game once youve bought it so its not some cheap cash grab game. Game plays and feels just like the console and PC versions just with touch controls. Nothing else has changed. Great job Feral and Firaxis we love this game to death and will continue to play it for many years.
We look forward to future releases. We like how many different game dynamics there are. If we were going to ask the developers to add anything we would like to be able to access soldiers stat and abilities in the pre mission screen as well as hav more information about the type of mission for instance urban, rural, complex and list objectives.
XCOM has always been a favorite of ours since it was first released back in the 90s. Ive played through XCOM Collection multiple times. The replay-ability is endless, every mission and every campaign is different! The game itself is tactical genius without a doubt. The strategic planning of your moves makes all the difference. Using everything you have available to you to complete your missions and end the aliens terror. XCOM along with most any Sid Meier game makes gaming challenging, interesting and enjoyable. And, Feral Interactive brings console quality games into the iOS world! We look forward to any new content in the XCOM universe.
The only thing that might improve it would be support for external controllers like Backbone.
We have to give this game 5 stars and here are the reasons why: 1) you pay 1 time and game is yours 2) good quality game 3) no issues with the game 4) hours of play. The only small complaint we have is that we wish you could play short skirmish missions or something where you can still earn experience and points but it is not so time consuming. But even with this, the game does deserve 5 stars. Please make more turn based games.
Would be great to use controller.
Arguably XCOM 2 is the very best AAA game on the App Store. There are very little compromises here vs. The console versions, at least the version we played on PS4. In some cases, the game is actually better, we.e., were now given the ability to rotate the camera as much or little as we like vs. Being bogged down with the old, 4 rotation frustrating design choice options previous iterations had. The graphics, sound and most importantly, gameplay are all fantastically represented here in the most elegant mobile translation of a game, probably ever. This is a complex game, but if you give it time, a beautiful addiction will form. XCOM 2 is incredible fun.
So fun, very much randomized so many play throughs are still interesting. Pros: many classifications of troops, so many styles of play. Lots of enemies, and difficulty ramps up nicely. Cons: sometimes strange bugs happen, and the game crashes pretty often (after a few missions) on an iPad gen 9. Not critical, but annoying. Appears you cant use the cheat codes as on the pc. The codes can be entered but the game crashes terminally at the end of the month. That is pretty disappointing. If you enjoyed games like Banner Sagaor JRPGs, this is a similar vein but very fun stand alone game. The story makes more sense if you play XCOM enemy unknown, but it is a different canon.
Great game, we have been playing every release of us for over 10 years and have enjoyed it more and more every release. The only thing, is that the ending is very underwhelming. You spent the whole game building up a full roster of soldiers and then only fight with six of them at the very end. It would be great if all the soldiers were utilized like in the shoot down missions. Keep it up, Great game. Great game. Great game.
Love, love, love this game excellent gameplay excellent story! Just stop right now and buy it and the XCOM game has always been worth it. Havent played this one yet. Just beat it.. So much fun excellent gameplay also took us a while to beat it which we enjoyed. Hoping for XCOM three soon.
One of the best TBS games ever made, all on our phone, and with very little compromise- AMAZING.
It took us about a month and a half and 4 campaigns to beat the game! Im hoping there will be an XCOM 3. Plz plz plz.
We love this game we own it on our Xbox as well but we really wish there was pvp like on xbox.
When you have kids, you dont get the time in front of the TV that you would like. Having XCOM 2 on IOS solves this. Its not only a near perfect port, its a near perfect game. Why are you still reading this? Push the button. Its worth it. 1005 worth it.
Ran through it on easy and was working through it again on normal when we realized we have to delete this freaking game. It is so good that it was negatively impacting our life in a material way. Sleep, work, fitness, personal relationshipswere all in danger. We just wanted to lock ourselves away and play this game and was annoyed when we had to see people or be exposed to direct sunlight. This review is more of a good bye letter.so good bye XCOM2, you were a wild mistress. Im sure we will text you again on the late night tip, but for now, youre so much fun you are toxic to the rest of our life. Big kudos to the team that made this game. It does crash sometimes but thats because we are trying to play this awesome game on our phones. Its like 2006 when someone would complain the wifi is slow on an airplanecant appreciate games like this are available on a phone at all.
We are a big of XCOM series from the first series to XCOM Unknown. We own all copies from iOS, PC, Switch, and PS4 (Big Fan). In comparison from all our experiences, playing XCOM Unknown is truly an amazing experience to be able to play anywhere you want. With the help of Feral, they did such an incredible job to port XCOM Unknown to iOS, this statement is based on comparison with the Switch version. Contrast of visual and optimization between iOS and Switch, you can see a difference between the work that have been done by Feral. Visually, surprisingly looks better on iOS, they flush out a lot of the graphic to make the game more visually appealing and control friendly to operate the game. Optimization is where we give Feral the most credit, because the game on Switch suffer many bugs, glitches and purple arms which suffer at launch and still some part exist. On iOS with Feral help, we experienced zero negative drawback from a demanding game like XCOM Unknown. Feral really did a great job on this one and we will continue to look forward on other games Feral decide to pursue.
We own XCOM 2 on both PC and Switch. The PC version of the game is fantastic and one of our most played games throughout our long gaming history. When the game released on the Switch we bought it because we wanted to play the game while traveling and unfortunately the performance leaves a lot to be desired. Frame rate problems, long load times, and several small glitches really hurt the experience. None of these problems exist on the iPad version. Performance is fantastic, load times are quick, and the interface has been redesigned in such a fantastic way that we actually prefer the touch controls to either controller or mouse + keyboard. This is by far one of the best ports we have ever experienced on a mobile device and this is a fantastic way to experience one of the best tactical games ever made.
This by far the most snappy quickest best frames of all. Can literally play 300% quicker than console. Loading is instant. Yes its crashes, when the moon is purple.
Probably our favorite game on mobile. No IAP. Not a freemium game. Not a free to play. Not a pay to win game. Port to mobile is perfect! Awesome collection. Thank you so much.
We love this game. To be fair we own this now 3-4 times over. We first played it on PC. We next bought it on Switch. We then got a Steam deck. Finally we bought this version. Totally worth it! PC is great but not portable. Switch version has very very long load times. On the steam deck the controls arent great and the load times are okay. This port has the fastest load times, the touch controls on our iPad Pro are great and easy, and the game plays great. Take it from the guy who has bought this over and over and over this is worth it! We played it a bit on our iPhone XS Max and also very good but we prefer the large screen on our iPad. But of course cloud saves so we can play our save on either screen! So good.
Awesome game but needs Backbone support (controller).
We bought the game on iOS because we love the game on ps4 but we could use help with it not loading when we try to enter the game.
Touch controls are implemented well. This is a faithful port of the XCOM 2 experience. Heres hoping they bring chimera squad to iOS as well. Battery draw is significant on high graphics settings, as expected for an intensive 3D game.
Let us start off by saying this game is difficult but if you decide to stick with it, is rewarding. Sure there are times you will get frustrated (Im looking at you 99% hit chance misses) but we dont think it is ever unfair. Shake it off, use what you have learned for your next mission or game. The only thing that is a little rough would be the graphics but that aside, this is a perfect port. Dont expect PC level graphics on a mobile phone is all we can say to that. Everything else is here in gameplay and DLC. For the $15 price tag you are getting a steal. Frequent auto saves and turn based gameplay make this a perfect fit for a mobile game. Perfect for the couch or the poo breaks. You will get addicted and sometimes have a love/hate relationship but it is worth the ride. Happy hunting, Commander.
- If the iPhone 11 is graphics mode compatible, why isnt the iPhone SE Gen 2? 2. Would it be possible to add the remaining PC DLC? Itd be cool if you could wiggle it in! 3. When we TW: Medieval II dropping!??? We love you guys so much, yes we are a fanboy. You guys are the first to take the step in the quality port department and youre taking all the right steps. Ive fallen a bit behind but Im an ENTHRALLED to see Alien Isolation on mobile in its entirety! Also going to pick up Company of Heroes since you added the second DLC. Thank you guys/gals so much, Im very grateful youve stuck to making fantastic ports. THANK YOU FOR NOT COLLECTING DATA!!! You guys are TOP TIER OF AMAZING.
Tablet game mostly. So in depth! There is an earlier Xcom thats great too. This one the visuals, the ambient audio, and the gameplay are genius. Ive been working in the arts as a career and sometimes this game is just looking, sounding so fin great. It is just really really cool. It ran perfect on our iPad Pro, just played through again on iPhone 12 and has been crashing a lot late game so beware. And yes this game will smoke you hard. But you quickly learn that managing your saves is important.
Its still crazy to us that we can now play full on console ports on handheld devices. We are at a rehab/work camp and have down time on the weekends. This was a great and fun way to spend some time relaxing and playing a well made game. The game itself is incredibly deep and one of the best turn based strategy games out there! If you like strategy games and have some time to kill this is a great purchase! Thank you for making this for iPhone.
Very pleased to be able to play through this game. Works fine without, but its even more playable with a keyboard and apple pencil.
Full fledged X-Com 2 with WotC addon on your iPhone. Yeah, controls can get clunky, we wish devs would add xbox controller support. Other than that, this is a fantastic port, must have for all XCom fans.
We have a problem with this game. We are completely addicted. We have 600+ hours on pc and now, who knows how many more on this version. Fantastic version that is missing very little from our pc game. (In fact, we prefer a lot of the interactive mechanics on this.). We are playing on iPad mini(5th) and have had some minor issues with crashing on certain levels which the tech support team helped us with. Overall, a fantastic experience. It might be best not to play with Ironman enabled, however. Buy it and join the fight.
Excellent game and Ive been a big long time XCOM fan. The game crashes frequently on our generation 9 iPad which is a little annoying requiring reloading a recent saved game. Doesnt make us not love the game though.
Love the XCOM series. And if youve been a fan of previous PC versions youll love this.
