Community Insight:
Little hard to figure out how the game works, but fun.
So that you may know. We are a child of the Nintendo Generation (born 1986 a month or two after the Challenger blew up). We have played so May 8 bit and 16 bit adventures but we always were Zelda fans (Miyamoto be praised) and so we missed the final fantasies. We look forward to enjoying 1-6 (the pure Nintendo products). It feels so much like the real thing but we have the advantage of enjoying it as an adult. It is so much fun its like we are again. Thank you for brining it back so faithfully.
Ok so when we bought this game we saw a boost screen and gained level 40 around Astos. We thought, This is OP Now we have completed the bestiary and have 21 out of the 24 achievements. Absolutely amazing game! Ps. We play the classics.
This was all that was missing, updated to 5 stars! (Please give FF2-FF6 the same treatment!).
We have purchased several Square Enix titles on iOS. Now a number of them have been placed behind an Apple Arcade paywall, and we have not been reimbursed for them.
Took way too long for this but we guess they finally decided to add classic font. Thanks Square, next time just have it there in the first place.
Every online website says the bestiary is in the extras menu. There is no extras menu. Then you can find specific comments to the iOS version that its in the configuration menu – but its not in the configuration menu. Lastly, you can dig up comments that some versions dont show it, and you need up update – but Its already up to date. Can anyone see a bestiary? Was it removed in a recent update.
We loved every second of this game front to back. The crystals and all of the towns you went to made this story. Plus we loved talking to Bahamut and seeing his origins.
We usually play the original versions of Final Fantasy games (including FF1) so we can have the same experience we remember when we played the games back when they were new. We've avoided purchasing this version of FF1 for years mainly due to the negative reviews. We thought we would be disappointed in it. We finally bought FF1 while it was on sale and we are very happy that we did as the game is much better than the reviews make it sound. We appreciate the quality of life improvements a lot. A couple of big ones: In the original FF1 you have virtually no extra inventory space for weapons and armor and when you target an enemy and it dies your characters do not automatically target the next enemy, you simply lose your turn. These are both fixed in this version. We also appreciate the flexibility of having the option to use the touch screen to interact with menus and we like auto-battle (which just repeats the last command you gave each character). Auto-save and quick-save are also much appreciated for someone playing on their phone. Overall, this is a worthwhile improvement to FF1 and we are enjoying having the game in our pocket so we can slowly re-play it whenever we have a bit of time. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the tremendous work. We see when playing this game. Even the controller feature has been added which is even better! Knowing this we hesitant to ask because of the amount of work being put into the Pixel Remaster series. Could there be cross platform save between consoles? For example id like to move saves between our Nintendo Switch and iPhone from time to time since our switch mainly stays at home. Thanks.
True to its roots and then some. Love the 16bit aesthetic. Sound is great. Although it would be nice if they included an option for the original bgm. That would be cool. Combat is snappy. Love the auto battle feature. If your an og fan like us, you wont be disappointed.
Its perfect just absolutely beautiful.
Only reason we didnt give it a 5 is because the font is so smal even on our iphone 15 plus.we aslo noticed that the steam and consol versions have it where you can chnage the font and it looks way better than the default it wouldnt be hard to expand the font width and length to fill in the text boxs but we aint no dev.
We do like the tap to move feature and moving diagonally. Seeing your position on the map as you move about is handy, too. Being able to boost your exp or GP up to 4x from each battle is great as is making these increase by 0x if you so choose. Turning off random encounters completely is a nice option. Its worth noting that the more rare monsters like Tyrannosaur, Basilisk, Ochre Jelly, Iron Golem, etc. Seem to appear more frequently. Even Warmech has popped up faster in our play throughs. The tweaks in graphics are just fine, but we really the magic effectsthose are a big deal. The music has improved, too. However, we truly enjoyed the bonus dungeons from the old version and am seriously disappointed they are missing from this release. Also, it seems you cant move more than about 25 paces before a monster encounter. We remember going through an entire floor of a dungeon without an encounter and it feels this new version isnt as random. We wonder how many random drops are left out as we have been unable to find the Deathbringer sword. Finally, there is no peninsula of power and no way of switching the magic to the mana system. This means you will never be able to cast more than 9 spells for each level. We find ourselves playing the old version more than this one.
Knights and ninjas cant use magic , lvl 81 and no spells.
This remaster has a lot to like. Being able to boost Gil an exp gain is good. We have to take two whole points off for forcing us to sit through the cut scenes.
Im begging you, pleading with you – Please fix the font.
Were still stuck with this horrible font. This is all the more maddening considering this option exists in every other version of this game. Why cant we change out this awful font.
We would love to see the pixel remasters get controller support.
We LOVE the original Final Fantasy games so you can only imagine how happy we were to learn about these new versions. In good faith we bought the whole FF Pixel Remaster bundle. We were immediately upset to see there was no controller support. When we went online to see if an update was pending, we were dismayed to find out that not only has there NOT been an update in ages, but the PS4 and Switch versions have alternate music tracks, no encounter mode, and an EXP boost mode! As a family man with a rather busy schedule, those last two features would have been extremely welcome. Im unfortunately going to issue request for a refund. Hopefully someday Square will find it in there hearts to make all versions have the same feature set.
Love this classic would love it even more if we could use our backbone.
We love this game! Please update and add controller support.
Please add controller support so fans can have a more nostalgic experience playing this game.
We played through this in around 15hrs and was worth every penny. Even with the original FF you get some of the warm fuzzy feelings the FF games evoke. The only downside is that it needs controller support CONTROLLER SUPPORT PLEASE.
You have it on several already please.
We love this game so much but it would be so much better if it had controller support.
We want to replay this game w achievements. But we can not seems to remove the data from game Centre first. Any ideas.
Thank you so much to everyone who made this game a reality. We love everything about Final Fantasy games, the stories, the music, the emotional feelings the games evoke everything. We will play Final Fantasy for the rest of our life. Thank you so much for these games. As far as this version goes if we could change anything about the game it would be to make the status effects on enemies more obvious. Some effects are obvious like when an enemy is confused they will be backwards. However when an enemy is asleep or has dark there are no signifiers. We also believe the sleep status effect on enemies should last longer so that a Saboteur play style is more viable. Thank you again to everyone at Square Enix who works hard to make these games for all of us to enjoy.
This is terrific! It fixes many of the bugs and original problems. Tons of fun lots of hours of enjoyment. Auto battle and other convenient features make it less of a grind and more fun. Many of the reviews complain about controllers which we dont understand since this is a mobile app. This has been unfairly ranked because of some weird vendetta about inapplicable controllers. 5 Stars.
Its a pretty good port, with some nice QOL features, but it would be nice to be able to use controllers.
Please add controller support for this game.
Just purchased the bundle to replay the first 6 Final Fantasies and was hoping to play with the backbone accessory! Controller support would be a great addition to these games.
The game is great but would become a pixel perfection with controller support! Show the love Square Enix.
We love this game and this series! Finally being able to carry around the first entry on our phone to throw on whenever we need to kill some time in a waiting room or on the bus has been a godsend. Unfortunately, we are unable to access the final achievement the 15 puzzle on our iPhone 11 Pro. Im not sure if Im trying to access it wrong or if its simply not compatible, but either way that glaring dark spot on our achievement list is keeping this from being a 5-star purchase.
We love this game and franchise so much! It would be amazing with controller support. Please add.
Ive played all NA releases of FF1 aside from the PSP version, and we have to say this one is up there. It has low grinding and great pacing, especially for folks who just want to play every now and then. Up until the marsh cave the difficulty flattens and you can just cruise on to the next locale. The difficulty picks back up with the final boss, which is a treat and not another hassle to overcome, like high encounter rates and lots of insta-death attacks. Dont get us wrong, you can still be insta-killed, its just less prevalent. The music is fantastic too! Overall, its one of the better versions of FF1 Ive played.
We were happy to pick this version up. This game brings back so many memories, we have only one problem with this version it doesnt support controller option. Devs please allow controller support the older version did. Other than that well worth the price.
The game was great, our only complaint is that we got 23 out of 24 achievements. The last one must be bugged cause its for unlocking all other achievements. Hope it gets patched eventually, not a major deal though.
Needs controller support to be perfect.
Solid remake of the game. Missing controller support. Would be much better if controllers were supported.
It would make the gaming experience better if it had the ability to work with controllers.
Not bad so far but was crushed to see there isnt the option to change xp/Gil/encounter rate on this version.
Cant equip it. Seems like there are some buggy items. 4/2023.
There should be controller support since the game originally was released on the nes which had controllers.
We played through to the end. Good port with great visuals of a classic (but flawed, like most games of its time) game. The option of using tap to move and swipe controls is smart but controller support seems like such a no-brainer here. The ability to use a d-pad would launch this version from mobile port to true alternative to the console releases. Ill wait on the rest of the series to come to Switch, because it feels like such a disservice to classic games to deny even the option of a real d-pad and buttons.
Great remake. Just wish it worked with a controller.
Maybe it is because we are old now, but this game seems much easier then we remember. Status effects seem to have minimal effect on characters and we went an entire game without a character missing a swing. What is the point of accuracy? We remember problems with the original NES version like spells with minimal utility, so it could be faulty memory. Some of the items may not work quite the same as the original, too. It looks nice and the quality of life Improvements like tap to location and auto battle are huge. We tried to reboot the original NES version before playing this and it was far too much of a slog to bother with. This is much more enjoyable. It just doesnt seem quite the same. If you need a nostalgia fix, go for this, if not it is an easy superficial game. There are better games out there.
Im too young to have had any previous experience playing games in the Final Fantasy series, but Ive been curious about it (we like fantasy games, or the idea of them anyway.) So we decided to get this mobile remaster (we also like 8-bit stuff), and going in, we were just happy to have the chance to play a RPG that wouldnt panic us. Then the 45-second intro with no information ended. After that, we started playing the game. We decided to simply explore the map. The controls for moving arent great but good enough. However, in our first steps, we were met with a skeleton army and 4 options; Attack, Magic, Items, and Defend. Id heard that none of the spells in the original Final Fantasy did anything. We didnt realize they just werent there. Our characters included a White Mage and a Black Mage. They couldnt use magic; SINCE WHEN COULD A MAGE NOT USE MAGIC!? As it turns out, you get nothing in your inventory when starting. Attack required multiple times of hitting the same button. When one character lost a third of their HP after one hit, we tried Defend; didnt do anything. By the end, that guy was dead. We discovered Id received a potion though, and tried to use it to heal the dead guy. Nope. Thats fun when youre fighting a boss five minutes later and you literally cant win. After that endeavor, another of our characters was on the brink of death. The potion refilled the total HP, but when we tried another hand at the boss fight, still failed. The controls have no instructions despite being infuriating at the start. We desperately looked and found out that the small panel in the corner with a lot of key info and gameplay use cant be accessed. Oh well, its okay.
This game looks amazing and gives us a ton of nostalgia. But why is there no controller support on IOS? The PC version has it. But it was just ripped out of mobile for no reason.
Great classic but would work better with controller support.
