For Rent: Haunted House – Roleplaying Game Review
![]()
For Rent: Haunted House is a Roleplaying/Adventure game from Choice of Games LLC, first launched in 31st August 2012.
It’s rated 12+ and currently has 31+ ratings on the App Store.
What Makes For Rent: Haunted House Stand Out
It's your job to rent out a haunted house before your tyrannical boss has you fired!
It's an interactive novel where your choices control the story. For example, when your tenants, who haven't slept in days due to bone-chilling whispers emanating from the walls, ask to break their lease, do you:
A) Let them transfer their lease to another property?
B) Allow them to break the lease, but keep their security deposit?
C) Insist on sticking to the terms of the lease?
D) Boldly investigate, like all the victims in bad horror films?
How will you screw over your tenants? Will you ignore inconvenient supernatural phenomena, or use them to drum up publicity? How will you deal with ghost hunters, squatters, and celebrity tenants? Will you emerge as the top agent? Stage an office coup? Or will you become a permanent resident of 57 Crowther Terrace?
(This game used to be called "Eerie Estate Agent," before we changed the name.
This Roleplaying game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Community Insight:
We don't know why some people have said that this story is so lame. We have played many CoG games and this is absolutely one of the best. The story is endlessly entertaining. The best part: it's totally free. You can buy the upgrade to eliminate the ads and lose the wait time between games, but you don't need to. The ads are mostly small banners on the bottom of the screen that we barely noticed and it's only a 20 minute wait between games. We highly recommend this game to everyone. You will love it.
Fun story to play, if you take it on its own terms and don't try to think too hard about it. Certainly better than many of the latest offerings from Choice of Games, which for some reason are heavily laden with asinine metaphors about transsexuality.
We got to 19,444 and won the game , but it will take you a lot of good decisions and patience to get there. Only absolutely correct decisions will lead you to a victory.
One of the best's! We love it, it's one of our favorites! We really love the floating car! And that women, she thinks she can kill us with a candle stick? It wasn't even lit! We really love the game. It was exciting well at other times funny. We really want to see more in the future.
We had no idea what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. There's never a dull moment here where you play a real estate agent fighting to keep your job. The problem is that you are saddled with renting out a haunted house. You must get as much as you can from your rentals to survive in your firm. An arch rival will take your job if you don't. You can be as amoral as you like or feel comfortable with. Well worth playing.
It is well written and offers many different options to choose from during the story. Plus it is free unless you are bothered by ads or don't want to wait 20 minutes in-between games. Give it a try.
We didn't think we would like it but it turned out to be more interesting than we expected it to be.
We played this through a few times and we liked it a lot! We would defiantly recommend downloading.
We remember the first 'choice of' game we played was quite dumb a few years ago. All the options seemed to be fairly useless and didn't change/or progress the story at all. It was mostly annoying because these stories have a decided future no matter what decision or choice you make. Not to mention most of the choices just don't seem…human. Like why the friz would someone continue selling a house if they know it's haunted and causing ruin to everyone's lives?! Anyway we did like the slight humor in some parts. It really psyched us up. Otherwise the main character isn't likeable, the story lacks depth (previous occupants and why the house wants to eat people maybe?!) we would probably pay for a sequel with a better main character and a deeper far more interesting story.
This game was pretty fun to play. Interesting, unique concept and a few funny moments. But it is not worth $5. It's a very short game and it doesn't go very in depth in regards to the characters. You can't even become friends with anyone. We wouldn't nitpick over this if it weren't for the fact that the ad free version of this game is so high in price. There are much better, more involved choice of game games for $2-$4 and we feel like the $5 price on this game makes it deserving of higher expectations. That said, if you don't mind the occasional ad and the ad banner at the bottom of your screen, it's a fun little game to play through:).
We've done a few of these now and we're really enjoying them! This particular one had an unusual answer to what was wrong with the house. We didn't like the forced choices however. You are made to play as a fearful employee, and as a total skeptic of ghosts. You aren't given many chances to care about anyone but yourself really.
So it's nice that it's now free but it's quite pricy at 4.99 luckily we got it for the standard 1.99 Story wise it's interesting and it is fun.
This book is for kids ages 8-12 and would be 3 stars if that you. We doubt many over 10 would read it and rate it higher then 3 stars. The story fails to go in depth about the house or afterlife and this makes it lack interest. The focus is on you and your goal/job. Your not in the house so much. We played a quick second time and got another super short ending but it was different from the first super short ending. Price started way high but dropped due to lack of interest we think then became free due continued disinterest.
Choice of Games are normally great, but NOT THIS ONE! Writing is decent, but choices rarely vary or matter. Cantankerous, monotonous, and depressing. NOT WORTH PAYING FOR.
We've been a continuous customer of Choice of Games llc and have never been disappointed until now. After buying serval games and reading them all multiple times we decided to browse further into the options given. We found this title decided to give it a try and found ourselves regretting the download. If your looking for a title worthy of your time and not pricey we suggest giving broadsides a chance. Or if u have read a few of coc's games a few personal favorites are the Heros rise series and Deathless. We hope this helps you avoid the disappointment of wasting your time on this title.
We thought it'd be at least a little decent, so we decided to give it a chance. We see that was a mistake now because this game is just a total waste of time with annoying ads.
This game is listed as now being free from $1.99. Considering that, we were put off that it asks you to pay $4.99(inflation?), if you want give it a try without being annoyed by ads. The dev. Requests that you leave a review because it makes a difference. We hope this review helps the developer try a different, more honest sales approach.
After paying for the app, it goes free a few weeks later…. Permanently.
We really enjoyed this one. It's quite witty and very British. The only problem is that your choices don't shape the story as much as some other Choice Of games.
The story is calming and serene in our opinion. Light some candles, mix a drink, and cozy up on the couch status.
Great story and very entertaining.
Funny, full of twists, interesting, unique, snarky, and well written! Well done.
Not our favorite one but we give it 5 stars none the less ;D.
One of the better Choice of Games! We really enjoyed our experiences with this house.
Fun and lengthy. We enjoyed it thoroughly.
This was pretty well written, but the idea is kinda flat. We also felt like ours was written for a female. We didnt care much for all the choices. We honestly wish this was just set up a ms a horror/slasher story. CoG make it happen :) something silent hill like.
Yes, that's honestly what our complaint is. In this game, you play a snide and stressed out real estate agent. The first problem is that the thing is written so well that it can easily stress out the player, but what's worse is that the game already has your personality written to be a snide, dishonest, stressed out real estate agent who appears to only care about saving his spot at what he knows is a terrible job. Never is there an option presented to simply refuse to allow people into the house once you confirm that its haunted, and personally try to remove the spirits. Your only goal is to trick people into that house while getting money out of them. Perhaps we simply missed crucial choices, but this was our impression after a few play throughs.
We love COG, so we bought this one as soon as it came out. It's good; a different approach really. But sort of like dry meat in an old sandwich.
We've played all Choice of Games apps except one, and many that are on the website and not an app. We have to say, this one was an average one. It was not the best, yet not the worst. Maybe we think this because we lost, or maybe we just find Zombies, Super Heros, and Ship Captains a bit more exciting.
