Find out what gamers are saying about Avernum 6 HD:

Spiderweb Software makes the best story driven RPG’s that we ever played. If you like old school fantasy RPG’s like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Avadon, and Dungeons of Chaos on iOS, then this game is for you!

Hours and hours of awesome gameplay. We can only wish that Jeff Vogel makes an iPad version of Avernum 3, 4 and 5.

App appears upside down on our iPad. Many iPad cases with built-in stands hold the device on its left side. (Update) Thank you so much for fixing this! Truly an awesome game and a classic!!!

We played all of Spiderwebs rpg games on our old iMac, and loved them. We just finished playing Avernum 1,2, and 3 in their new incarnation on our iPad. All the changes only made the games better. We are starting #6 today after trying to play the old and unchanged version. The differences are stark. We had to stop and download this new edition. Thank you Spiderweb for all the hard work it must have taken to produce this. We will hope to see #4 and 5 eventually in this updated version.

The game is very detailed and the mechanics are well-made. Our biggest complaint is how small the tileset is — It is like a half to a third of the size of Avadon’s graphics which makes mis-clicks occur a good portion of the time. There are also a few times where the terrain graphics cover up enemies which we feel is a fundamental design flaw. Other than that, the game is of high quality story and gameplay-wise.

We’ve played all of the Avadon/Avernum games on our ipad and loved em, then we got to this one and WHAT HAPPENED! Did the programmer have a stroke and couldnt get his head off his right shoulder!? Every other game in the series, we could swipe into a database to record details of the game we wanted to remember and both apps had the same default (and correct) orientation when the ipad is in landscape mode. For some unknown reason the developer broke with a solid compatible configuration to instead turn his app 90 degrees from everything else. All we can think of is that hes gotten old and crotchety and hates people documenting his game in another app and decided to be a total jerk! ALL VERSIONS Id had prior to this played nice on the ipad when swapping apps and then to do this lunacy in this app! Its a good thing the rest of the game is stellar or it would have been more than a star knocked off!

We loved Escape From The Pit, which was apparently revamped for iOS instead of just ported. It had clear skill trees and switched scale between outdoor and indoor maps just like old school D&D campaigns. The world and overview maps looked quite nice. In this game the skills are all "mystery meat," with completely secret dependencies. It uses the same scale indoors and out, so towns are now just a corridor away from each other and the world feels a lot less epic. The world and overview maps are pretty crude, forcing you to "hover" with your finger and look down in a scrolling box to see the label text. Crucial information (such as characters being debilitated by hunger) is shown only by a passing line of text in that box – no icon or anything in the actual character info. And a crash can corrupt the current saved game file, requiring you to use iExplore on your computer to delete it to get the game working again. That said, there are hundreds of hours of play with complex story lines and combats – well worth the purchase price.

If you loved RPGs like baldur’s gate or icewind dale, you’ll love this game.

We were looking for something old school in the vein of ultima 7 for our iPad and we came across Avadon the black fortress. Since then we have downloaded both Avernum games. We find them simply amazing. Nice graphics, engrossing story and worth every dime. We’re playing on an original iPad and haven’t come across any problems thus far. Just buy the game, you won’t regret it.

We’ve put in dozens or hours into this game and have usually had a hard time putting it down. Spiderweb does not disappoint here with content and secret places to find.

This is classic Avernum, through and through. It features a large and expansive world, outstanding writing (and lots and lots of text), tough strategic combat, and a lot of character-building options. An old-fashioned CRPG on your iPad.

(Updated) Finished all 100+ hours of this excellent, fun RPG. Changed our initial rating from 4 to 5 stars, because the ending was very impressive. The final set of quests in the main storyline allow your decisions to determine the fate of the land of Avernum. The different possibilities make a lot of sense if you’ve been paying attention to the major factions in Avernum and they’re actually pretty interesting. Graphics are just OK, but they are not the main draw for this type of game. Get this game if you enjoy exploring a non-linear world, great turn-based tactical combat, and meaningful choices that affect the game world in intelligent ways. The interface and game mechanics are solid. The game can be challenging–which we enjoyed–but the difficulty setting can be lowered or raised at any time depending on your preference. There is also plenty of help on the web, especially on the developer’s site, if a quest has you stumped–and some of the side quests occasionally will. Bottom line, if you like some challenge and an amazing amount of content, you won’t regret getting this game! Avadon, by the same developer, is also excellent IMHO. We hope more users support this developer, so they develop additional titles.

We love spiderweb software – the style of rpg works well for us, you can save as you go, and it prevents all the nausea-making first-person viewpoints. Highly recommend. Also don’t forget to practice first aid. We played it once without any – super hard.

Don’t let the dated graphics turn you away, this is an excellent RPG game, one of the best out there.

Well done folks, we had a blast playing. Many hours woth enough differences from previous versions to make play fun for the folks that have the other Spiderweb games.

This game keeps us up nights, and has strained our relationship with our girlfriend. She calls it "the other woman" lol.

All the Avernum games are great fun. Classic RPG style game that focuses more on the story than flashy graphics. We’ve been playing them for yrs in Windows and jumped at the chance to get it on ipad. Your party is charged with helping the underground kingdom if Avernum survive twin catastrophes: a mysterious disease that is wiping out the country’s food source and an invasion by an old foe, the reptilian Sliths. A massive world, tons of quests, and a mostly nonlinear storyline allow players to direct their own way through the game. Some of the mechanics are harder on the smaller touchscreen of the ipad than on a mouse-based system, but it’s worth putting up with for the adventure.

When touching on quest locations in the world map, the text appears almost directly where you touch. This is almost totally unreadable because it is under your finger. The text should appear further away from where you touch to be user friendly. Also, with all the talk of the importance of food in this game, there is no clear indication of if or whether you actually need to eat or are getting hungry. Does eating food actually do anything other than restore some health?

Avernum: return from the pit was like a revelation. Finished it with lot’s of joy. This attempt is awful, awkward, buggy, punishing and illogical. Stay away. And if you want old-school turn-based fun – do not buy this one, go for their other efforts.

Then you have to buy this game. We grew up with games like Baldurs Gate and this is the only game that has come close to it on the iPad but nonetheless we are enjoying this game just as much as the BG series. We never heard of the series until we found Escape from the Pit on the app store. Our only complaint is that there is no music, any atmospheric music would be welcome, we would even suggest music from fallout 1&2 just to add a little but of background music. However none of this stops the game from delivering an unrivaled RPG experience on the iPad. To the developers: you need to get your hands on the fallout IP and port 1,2 and tactics to the iPad, seriously guys we are starving for a PC fallout experience over here.

We saw the title and bought it immediately. Seriously. That’s how good these games are.

Excellent story and since we owned other spiderweb games we could jump right in. Only one small complaint was not any new types of weapons from previous games but still a great game. We hope u put out more of your games for iPad.

Yet another great entry in the series! If you are familiar with the series or the style of game, just stop reading and download immediately! Really good writing so far and very satisfying gameplay in old school CRPG vein! With the previous Avernum and Avadon, this developer has made us a fan of their games! With such a dearth of this style of deeper, fuller game on IOS portable platforms, this is a welcome change of pace with a deep, intricate game after being surrounded by otherwise fun but casual helpings of games! It’s nice to have a full hearty meal of a game after being served so many "snacks" of casual games!

Don’t hesitate to buy this immaculate title. Best RPG to be released in a long, long time! Instabuy for us!

Shamelessly old school dungeon crawling at its finest.

But we haven’t even played a second of this game. We saw Avernum and purchased it without a second thought. We still feel confident in giving this game a perfect score though because spiderweb software can literally do no wrong. This is the best game we have ever not yet played. We’ll get around to it once we get our party to finally escape from Avernum in their other remarkable game but until then we feel totally confident giving this game a perfect score and supporting developers at whatever price tag they put on it because it is worth it. Seriously, we have gotten more enjoyment out of Avernum: Escape from the Pit than we have out of 60 dollar XBOX titles. Do not hesitate to buy this immediately.

We bought this on a whim and was not disappointed in fact we were blown away by how much content is in the game. The character development is robust, lots of spells, items and secrets. The game is fun and a must have for those Witt the patience for an rpg that doesn’t hold your hand.

You gotta be a mega-nerd to enjoy this game.
