A Glimpse into Classic Bid Whist

One of Coppercod’s most requested games, Bid Whist is a classic quick-fire card game for four players playing in two teams.

Play now on your smartphone or tablet! Free to play. Track your stats and play with smart AIs.

Team up with one of our partner AIs to beat your opponents in Coppercod’s take on this classic card game.

Test your brain while you play and have fun!

To win, you and your partner must be the first pair to reach 7 points, or push your partners to fall to -7. Points are scored by the team that wins the bid, and they score one point per book they take over 6 if they meet or better their contract, but lose 1 point per bid over 6 tricks if they fail.

Bid Whist is a little more complex to learn, but rewarding as you improve your strategy over time to defeat your opponents. Uptown, downtown and ‘no trump’ bid types keep the landscape different every session. Choose between easy, medium and hard mode and make sure to track your all time and session stats to follow your improvement as you learn!

Make Bid Whist the perfect game for you with our customisable features!
● Turn the Boston bonus on or off
● Turn the No Trump bonus on or off
● Set to always sport the kitty, when a trump is set, or never sport the kitty
● Set the AI level to easy, medium or hard
● Set the number of jokers in play
● Choose normal or fast play
● Play in landscape or portrait mode
● Turn single click play on or off
● Replay the hand from either the bidding or the play
● Review each trick taken during the round

You can also customise your color themes and card decks to choose from to keep the landscape interesting!

Quickfire rules:
After the cards are dealt evenly between four players; the players, in turn, can pass or bid the number of books they believe their team can win above 6 (uptown for high cards, downtown for low cards or ‘no trumps’). The winning bidder then decides which suit shall be trumps if an uptown/downtown bid was made, or which direction if a ‘no trump’ bid was made. The winning bidder then takes the kitty into their hand, which may be sported (turned face up) depending on your setting, and discards the number of cards contained in the kitty. The winning bidders are awarded the first book for taking the kitty.

Each player then plays one card in turn, following suit if they can. If they cannot follow suit they may play any other card in their hand, including a trump card. The aim for the winning bidding team is to take as many books as to at least win their contract. The other team is trying to win enough books to stop them.

At the end of each round, the winning bidders score either 1 point for every book they won over six if they met or bettered their contract, or lose their bid size in points if they failed to make their contract. The game is won when the first team reaches the win target of 7, or forces the opponents to drop to or below -7.

The game could use an upgrade some of the practices are not common to the real game.

Strategy of computer is not the best, but the best we’ve come across online.

A1 makes bad moves in lower setting. NOT in the most difficult setting. Step your game up! And great ability to change the rules! Thanks to the designers, they did a really nice job here!!!!

We wis they would leave out a 3 bid!!!! Real people needed and love that you can play progressive.

We enjoy your game. However, we have played since we were 12 and am now 65. We have never been shown the kiddie unless you won the bid. Overall we enjoy game.

Some of the moves are predicable. The computer will ALWAYS play the King first before he comes out with the Ace. Always.

This app is fun but partner for seem sometimes play with the computers and computer team seem vert well sync toget her.

Nicely designed game. However, not as pleasant if you leave ads on. We played bid whist for hours as college students. Always loved game. This app is very realistic.

We actually like the simplicity of this game. We had forgotten how to keep score and this game helped us remember. Plus to teach others to play, this program is great. Easy to follow. Im using it to show now whist players how to play. Great job!

The computer is always getting better hands always winning. Not fair.

We enjoy playing the game. However we feel like our partner is playing with the opponents. At every opportunity our partner plays whatever we are cutting, even when we’ve played another suit. That is what opponents do, make sure youre using up your trump. Then we see later the partner is not playing aces when they have the chance. If those issues are corrected, the game would be much better.

Either the developer never knew how to play bid whist or they programmed your A.I. Partner to screw you up!

This game is great to play but the A. We of our partner needs to be fixed. They consistently make moves that make absolutely no sense that cost us the game. Something needs to be done about this. If the AI were better this is easily 5 stars but its not so 3 stars it is.

We love playing this game but the owner really need to have the computer players make smarter moves. Some of the moves of our partner are just just really bad bid whist moves which have resulted in the loss of a book or even the game. That get frustrating because it is the same bad move all the time.

We like it but we cant tell whose who. We love being able to see the kitty.

This app is fun and we enjoy many stress-free hours of play. However, our partner doesnt seem to know not to introduce new suits, especially when we obviously dont have that suit and have thrown off on it. Our partner has lost us many a game that way. If the partner cannot come back in the suit we introduced, we will play another suit to come back in. The programming should be engineered to recognize that. Also, we will look for gap cards in all our suits first so if Im looking for the king of spades for instance, PLAY IT! Dont let us lose the trick or you get to the point that you cannot come back in spades and make us lose the hand. Bottom line, we think the programmer needs a refresher in no-trump play rules!

We love this game and this app gives us much practice.

We hadnt played in years since our Dad passed away. We started playing again with our Fraternity and this program has help sharpen our skills. It taught us how to keep score. Our only issue is the sound keeps going in and out.

Fun game to play but AI partner doesnt know how to play. Hard level doesnt help. AI partner bids are way off and makes the game less fun. Initial bids, 3u/d or 3n tip your partner if they have a joker or an ace or a good hand. AI doesnt understand this. Then during game play if AI wins bid.. They play non trump cards every play and get trumped by opponents every time. Its just hard to play against a team when you have a AI partner who doesnt know how to play.

Need to allow players to make smarter moves. Too random.

This is a fairly decent game. Issues concern partner player. Partner often does not play logically. For example they will hold their best cards and let the opponent win books when they could have easily beaten the play. Also the partner does not pick up playing cues from their partner. If you want to learn to play bid whist this is not the game For you.
