Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

If you havent had it spoiled, the ending is very interesting. Definitely worth getting, the characters are all enjoyable and the interactions are believable enough. The fantasy setting is vague enough to not bog you down, but detailed enough to add to the story.

Really felt impressed and engaged throughout the story, especially at the ending. The negative reviews just seem very nitpicky, or are made by people who are unnerved by anything remotely sexual at all. If anything, we wish more Choice of Games focused on this stuff more. The romance is the highlight of most of these series, and we always find it disappointing when they just fade to black when anything gets serious, or they keep it shallow. Im not a child, we dont need, and especially dont want these stories to be PG. With that said, this entry doesn't have anything all that involved, theres certainly no sex scenes or anything of the sort. However the romance scenes that are present, are very charged. We dont feel emotion from written stories very easily, but this writer gets through to us everytime. He manages to successfully capture the heated feelings involved in these moments, not just those of lust, but the emotional as well. Every story he writes, he manages to make at least one romance target character that we personally feel connected to. Im not sure any multiple choice story really has achieved that for us quite as well, nor any other medium really. This especially applies to the character of Junko in his Samurai of Hyuga series which is still ongoing, that is his main work and is ongoing to this day. Compared to Samurai of Hyuga, this is a much shorter story, and is contained to one book. However, its dark, engaging, and well written. It also explores some realistic(albeit not gone into in depth) depictions of politics, religion, and stratified societies.

Good interface, reasonably clear choices, cute romances, and a… Surprise at the end that we particularly liked. Only complaint is that, while the choices did make some difference to the narration, there was little room for divergence. The romances were the significant options. We'd have liked our element/weapon choice to make a bit more difference to our choices. We're also not sure what difference Corruption made. Nonetheless, these issues are common to most Choices of Games, and this was cleverer than most (in a surprisingly meta way). Highly recommended.

Many people complain about the nit picky things in stories and ends up making the story seem worse than it really is. The story is great and if youre not into what the author is selling, then try another! All Im saying is, this is definitely one of the better stories in choice of games, even if other people claim it to be worse off than it really is.

Seriously, this is very well written. It draws you in, in a manner that we had not expected. Well worth the buy. Ill be checking out their other games.

Despite it minor flaws, which in the main include far less choice and a lot more reading than in other games of the sort, all in all this one deserves five stars due to its fantastic writing, moving story, and excellent pacing. Pretty much the only game of this type where we felt like the way your character grew in power was natural and earned. The characters and settings are also flawless. All in all, we heavily recommend this game.

Truthfully we already own the Kindle edition and just bought it on here because it was so great and wanted to replay it on our iPhone.

Storyline was great and played out well. Enjoyed playing it several times over. We would like a continuation of this story or an extension to the love life. It did feel kind of cut short in the romantic feel. Each romantic side of this story is there but we felt as though there was something lacking. Not sure what it was but it wasn't there. This does not distract from the story in the least.

We LOVED this game the characters are unique and funny, extreme replay value ( have fun finding all of the dialogue variations), and the story line is rather intriguing if we say so ourselves; however, we think that the stat mechanic is to basic. At 55% resourcefulness we passed every single resourceful test we had, ( conversely we failed every single faithful test at 45%) we think that the stat system needs to be more complex than just is it above 50%. A different problem ( more of a personal thought really) is the romance subplot, we see this in every single choice of games release a lack of a multiple partners option. We want to feel as if we are the protagonist and we want to deal with the effects of our actions, in the world or in our character's personal relationships. We would like to see an option where we could convince Brigid AND patch AND Silvia to date our character ( not an easy brain-dead dialogue option mind you, but a grueling drawn out process that takes surgical precision to accomplish or a social hand grenade goes off in your face.) in summary this is an awesome game that has some very human flaws, but is a gem that any role-playing fan would enjoy.

We went into this novel really optimistic and by the end was completely let down. The ending might as well have been, "and you wake from your dream, glance around and nothing has changed", because that's sure as hell how it made us feel. Replay on this to us is abysmal, every playthrough generates the exact same ending, pointless. Characters? Spoiler alert, everyone that isn't holding a sword wants to have sex with you. In fact the player and your buddy are really the only ones with a detailed back story, kind of like everyone else just crawled out of the woods into a vacant town. It's not the worst COG game by any means, that title is reserved for that awful Mermaid game they have available, laughably, for purchase.

While the author is a good storyteller, oftentimes he veers forcibly into what is obviously his own unfortunate juvenile fantasies. We have a fairly high tolerance for that sort of thing, but what pushed us to write about it is that it is forced on you whether you yourself are interested or not. You have no ability to opt out of it and it just. Keeps. Going. Besides these moments the story is quite interesting, which is why this is a two and not a one.

Fun story to read. We enjoyed the author's sense of humor and the plot of the story. We're happy with our purchase. One of the better choice stories we've read.

It was an amazing story to be a part of! Really hope for another chapter.

This game isn't perfect, but we enjoyed it the most out of any in this genre because the choices seemed more reasonable to what we would actually choose. Worth it.

Just a fascinating choose your own story. What choices you make that don't have an impact on the outcome do have an impact on how your character acts and thinks, which is a big plus in terms of immersion, and the ending is great.

One of our favorite games by Hosted.

The more time you invest in the game, you feel as if you live in that world and you are actually performing these amazing feats.

Big twist To good for words Love it Live it This is perfection for us.

Very comical and great characters! It was cool how it also referenced some of our favorite console games! The ending felt a little strange and rushed but the character buildup and backstories are amazing! Especially how you rise up throughout the story and make such cool decisions based on your personality after your backstory.

We really liked this game. It was fun and entertaining. One of our favorite "choice" games.

Fun, whimsical, and will leave you on the edge of your seat. It'll be a quick read 'cause you won't want to put it down! An excellent writer that has a great imagination. We've read all of the cog and hosted games. Aside from the Heroes trilogy, this is our favorite CoG so far. Definitely worth the read.

This game is probably choice of games best game published. It took us 7 hours to play for only around $3 while other games have given us 4 hours of gameplay for close to $5. The quality of writing is strong and overall this game has given us the most rewarding experience compared to the other games. A strong 10/10.

Plz make some more that have similar elements like this one.

While we have played many other games by Hosted Games and Choice of Games, this is by far our favorite. Engrossing, with characters that you actually care about, we hope that they make a sequel to this amazing novel.

This was beyond amazing. Lots of action, romance, unexpected twists, and much more. There's just one thing that makes us depressed about this amazing game. Why can't our life be like this… Ah well. 10/10.

FateHaven is one of the best interactive novels on the App Store. Hosted Games offerings are usually worse than Choice of Games, but in this case, that statement is completely wrong. FateHaven hits all the marks of an epic fantasy story, and we loved every second we read.

Out of all the Choiceofgames and Hosted games this has to be one of the best or maybe even THE best. We've played the Heroes trilogy by COG and we'd have to say that we might've enjoyed this one even more than the trilogy. We'd say this is a must buy.

It go on for a while which makes it great and it is just too amazing to say in words.

This choice game was truly awesome, when reading it we made actual connections with characters and the gorgeous blend of romance, adventure, fantasy, and humor overall appealed to us. Although some parts need to be proof read this author is amazing and we think if you get this too you will love him just as much as we do :) please make another game or a continuation!! D: Lowell is life is love.

The story is so good, the characters are will written we enjoyed this game so much.

This game was simply awesome! It had romance, action, drama, comedy, adventure. It was really long which we loved and it was very well written! Please write a sequel! This story has to continue.

This is our first time playing anything like this game. We haven't even played any of the Telltale games, closest game we've played to this was maybe Mass Effect or Catherine. But besides all that this game is fantastic. The choices you make feel genuine and effect the story in a real way. The writing we would say is a solid B, a little juvenile at times and has the tendency to repeat certain things (a thought or image making your character sick or not noticing an amount if time that's gone by) but with the little flaws aside the ability the writer had of making us want to keep reading and once we were done play it again was fantastic. Character relationships and character development are very solid and very well written and were our favorite parts of our playthroughs. We will not go into detail on the end to avoid spoilers but we were perfectly satisfied and happy with how our game ended. We've already planned out 3-5 different playthroughs of the game that we will probably do because we're just so in love with this world and the story within it. We've also told all our friends about it and told them to buy the game. –if you are a fan of a DnD style world with a punch of anime thrown in we would definitely recommend his game we had so much fun and we hope you do too.

This is definatley the best game that Hosted and Choice of Games has ever put out. The story was amazing and brought us to tears. We have never been more sad after we finished this phenomenon.

The story has a great plot and the romance choice are pretty amazing each partner has strong emotion and the endings in which you play out with your partner are all wonderful this game is a really [5 STAR].

We've been a big fan of COG games but this is easily the best and we've supported it since the begging as a WiP and gladly paid the $3 for an absolutely amazing story. Loved the characters and humor, only critique we had was it lost it's abundance of options after the demo ended and that was part of it's greatness.

It's an amazing game, extremely well written and very funny. We were a bit upset when we finished it, we didn't want it to end, we loved it so much. So many ways to end and things to choose from. We loved the way it added little hints of modern things, just adding something special. We were a bit curious about the beginning because we tried over and over to avoid getting 30% corruption but we couldn't do it, although its great that they have options to lower your corruption, if you choose the right thing. We were really into it, we hated it when we had to put our phone up for class XD. We really suggest you download it.

Worth every penny (nuff said) Now Buy It.

This game is our favorite hosted game, we like it as much as tin star because of the great story. This game has a lot of replay value and every play through is different because of different elements and romances. This was written VERY well and the author should DEFINITELY write more. This game has a great sense of humor with funny jokes and scenarios, however it has just enough action and suspense as well. The customization is pretty great too. You can be kind or evil, corrupted or clean. Your attitude affects the types of powers you get. The romance system is also great you have three people you can get together with. The choices you make will either make them hate you or love you. That's expected but there are a lot of games that have them like you no matter what. Which we find boring. The game has a twist ending. We wasn't a big fan of it, but you might be able to change it. We've only been through two play throughs so we're not sure. We hope the author writes more of these stories in general. Sadly, we think this is supposed to be a single title game, but we'd be just as happy with a whole new world and new story. Anyways, this is a great solid game and it is worth every penny. You should totally buy it.

We have played many games made by them but this one is by far the most in-depth, well thought through, story that they have ever made. It's replay-ability is only improved by the many companions and decisions that could kill you and everyone around you or save everyone in such a well hidden and thought out way.

Initially we couldn't find a way to express this: COG Fantasies have been so galling and tasteless we've felt we're eating British food, and we didn't have high hopes for this BUT all of the sudden we realized we were reading a sexy, funny new adventure we were actually engaging in, unlike Way Walkers. When some say this is immature and the writing lacks seriousness, we say the writing is honestly – we say this as someone who knows about different writing styles – not immature, but FULL OF WIT! The well calculated and smart kind XD, also this is a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, but it takes YOU seriously. It's like a pleasant supper popular LOTR fanfic that is just right! This is a must have for a RP app fan.

We don't usually write reviews, however we felt the need to with this choice game, besides a few grammatical errors the game is awesome.

We love the premise of the story. We did not see that Plot twist from a mile away. The writing is truly wonderful, and clever. This is our favorite choiceofgames app so far.

Incredibly fun game and one of the more entertaining games to come out of CoG. Each scene is written in a way that is descriptive and colorful, making it easy for the reader to visualize in their head. Even more so, each scene seems like a scenario straight out of an anime making everything that much familiar. That said, as anyone that watch enough mainstream anime will be able to identify, there is going to be sexual innuendos involved. A lot. Romantic options are going to be sexualized. That could be a deal breaker for some people. We don't know. If you're into JRPGs or anime, give this game a try. Totally worth the money. If not so. We would actually still recommend it. One of the few multiple-choice games that shines light on NPCs and not just player choices.

This story was well worth the money. It's a pretty lengthy story with lots of romance and action. It has many choices to choose from too. Definitely worth every cent.

A few minutes ago, we finished our first playthrough of the Fatehaven choose your own adventure-style app. We enjoyed the experience, to our surprise. Despite a lack of lore and mythos, the writers did a fantastic job creating a framework for the story so our imagination could fill in the blanks. Even though there were a few grammatical errors, we found the world believable and the characters likeable. Overall, the first 80-90% of the story was awesome. Our only issue was how our first playthrough ended. Without spoiling things, the ending we got depicts the story reaching a crescendo with the rescue of a damsel in distress, introducing an even bigger threat to the world in the story, forcing the player through an unexpectedly mind-boggling plot mechanic, then poof -its done. No facing the bigger threat, no explanation of what just happened, nothing. Its almost like skipping the last big battle scene of Return of the Jedi: one minute Luke meets Darth Vader and the Rebel ships are heading into battle, the next minute sees the Emperor dead and the Death Star destroyed. Technically the transition might work, but it leaves way too many details and explanations out and a LOT of questions unanswered. We realize a project like this is a massive amount of work for the developers. We applaud how they were able to make the players choices seem to matter to the story and how they were able to create a believable world. We recommend playing this game if you have a few bucks burning in your pocket. Im very interested in playing again, but Im hesitant to do so if the other five endings are like that. Developers: Please, please fix the endings.

Good, well written story, but stats don't match choices.

We play a lot of these games and this one was fairly good. At first it starts off good and simple. But in the middle it's a little confusing because a big shift happens and it kinda messes everything up. Then it's all good and you think, we could rate this a 5. But then a terrible and ridiculously confusing ending happens that completely ruins the story. So we give it a 3 for overall a good game, it just dropped the ball is all. But at least it's fairly cheap and when you get spells the detail to what you can do is incredible. So in the end we give it a 4.

This app is pretty good. Yes there are some type errors and the story could be fleshed out a bit more but anyone saying this app is less than 3 stars is just being mean. We gave it 4 stars because it's good fun but the mechanics of it could be a bit better and it seems mostly written for males.

This game is good there is character progression and plot build to an extant we didn't feel like the ending satisfied us even the real one the story was great but we wish you could choose from more options page after page was pretty much almost always liner to us we're not saying we didn't like the story we just wish we had more choices for example we wish we got to choose where we searched in the blacksmiths house instead of it all being set up again not saying the story wasn't bad it just didn't feel as free as some other choice games also we never died once and so we think that's a sign that they should make this game a wee bit harder or at least a hard difficulty they should also show you in the status section how your relationships are but over all the most important thing was that we had fun doing it so good job and also this game is hilarious at some parts and highly enjoyable even with the amount of spelling errors we spotted but final conclusion AWESOME.

Overall a nice story with a surprising twist at the end. The replay ability maybe low but the Romance options, and the story our overall very good. We enjoyed this very much and would definitely recommend.
