A Glimpse into Flipflop Solitaire

From the creator of Sage Solitaire, comes a new Solitaire variant that breaks all the rules!

100% of deals are solvable!

Like its footwear namesake — Flipflop Solitaire is unrestrictive, creating a new game for fans of spider, klondike and other traditional Solitaires.

In Flipflop you can stack down, up, or even both ways on a single stack!
Need to stack an 8 on a 7, or a club on a spade? No problem!

  • but –

Be careful, you can only move a stack of a single suit!
It’s fun and freeing, but still challenging and captivating.

It’s Flipflops for your brain.

——A WORD FROM THE DEVELOPER

Flipflop Solitaire is sort of a sequel to Sage Solitaire in the sense that it’s my second crack at the design problem of making a Solitaire game that feels like it was designed for your phone and not for a table.

To be honest this is how I wish everyone approached sequels. Usually a sequel takes the solution to a problem and duplicates it. This is why our expectations of game sequels are often more-of-the-same-but-better. I’d rather see more sequels that brought a renewed level of surprise and novelty, and I’m hoping that’s what you find in Flipflop Solitaire.

While Sage was all about trying to capture the feeling of a tight, easy to play, tough to win, zen solitaire game, Flipflop is about knots.

In a typical Solitaire game, like Klondike, you’re taking a knot of cards and untying it into sequences. Then you reverse those sequences into clean ordered stacks.

In Flipflop you take your knot of cards and tie it into other, hopefully better knots. Then you untie those knots into the final ordered stacks. Having so much control over the way your intermediary knots are constructed led to a lot more depth than I expected.

I hope you enjoy this game as much as I’ve enjoyed discovering it.

User Reviews on Flipflop Solitaire

Looking for more information? Read a comprehensive review of Flipflop Solitaire below:

We have spent an embarrassing number of hours entertained by this game! We like fun, but not mindless, pass times and this hits the mark. For iPad folks missing the landscape view (that will be restored soon), force close the game if open, switch your iPad to portrait, open the game, then rotate to landscape. This works on our iPad Pro.

We almost never leave reviews but had to for this game. We love Solitaire, and this has been our favorite Solitaire app so far :) its the only Solitaire app we’ve actually paid for, because the dev deserves it!

We love FlipFlop! Have been playing it almost daily for years. Always fun. With this latest os update the game only orients in a vertical position on the iPad! That is how its always been on the iPhone but with the iPad, the game would switch to horizontal if the iPad was horizontal. And, no, we do not have the orientation on the iPad locked to vertical. So, it is the games orientation that seems locked to vertical on the iPad now. We have powered off the iPad completely and powered it back on. But nothing changed. Is there hope for it returning to an either vertical or horizontal orientation soon? Could not find a way to contact support without going into Twitter. Thanks.

Without a doubt, FlipFlop Solitaire is our favorite game! Completely love it and play often when we have and downtime. Hope you enjoy it as well!

We’ve played more hours on this game across three devices and many years than we could ever guess. Im pretty sure this game single-handedly carried us through some tough times. Its simple to learn, designed well, and satisfies our need to have something to do while listening to podcasts. We’ve paid for this game three times now and Ill keep doing it until it or we are dead.

If you really like solitaire, in all its varieties, this version is really worth playing. Its a very interesting remix of the game, infinitely replayable. We play it when we want to relax, Im bored, anxious, whatever. Its just fun, and makes you think just enough. To the people complaining about the price – we understand that mobile games are generally considered to be less-than, and not worth more than $1 to get rid of ads. We’ve played many of Zach Gages games and they are are thoughtfully and beautifully made, with a lot of intention behind the design. This guy is an indie game developer, and paying him makes it easier for him to keep making new games or improving the ones you already like. We saw one review say theyd played over 2000 rounds of this game, but still thought $3 was ludicrous for a card game. We think that actually is an insanely good value for all the time theyve spent with it! All thats to say, consider changing the way you think about pricing and value for mobile games, and maybe get to know the makers a little better too!

We have enjoyed the numbered decks game mode! However, if we restore a backup to our iPhone, initially it brings it over. However, once you quit out of the app and open it back up, for some reason it will either keep some progress or completely erase it. Also, landscape mode on iPad doesnt work. Please fix both of these issues.

Hello, we really like this game, enough that we finally paid to purchase the ad-free version. It works great on our iPad, but if we play on our iPhone, it stops us and says we need to connect to the Internet to view ads (I AM connected). Am we expected to buy the game for each device? So it works great on one device and is unplayable on another.

This game is extremely fun for those who like solitaire and want to switch it up a bit. Its a creative twist on the classic game. That being said, here are a few of our complaints. 1) If you arent connected to the internet and able to watch ads, the app stops you from playing. We get that ads are where developers make their money, but games like solitaire are the ones people want to play on the road, on planes, etc where having connection isnt possible. It basically makes it so that we can only play the game at home because lets be honest, Im not using data that we pay for just to watch ads we dont want to see. 2) The app has been a bit glitchy lately and we see this stuff isnt getting fixed since the games been abandoned for over a year. Nothing too bad, but the sizing of the screen and border gets messed up, the menu buttons stop working until we restart the app, etc.

Love this game. But you need a full version of it (ad-free) for sale that doesnt require Apple Arcade. We love your games, but Im simply not willing to shell out $5/month indefinitely in order to play them.

We get that solitaire can be difficult. You want us to buy 200 more games but this has turned into a more of a puzzle and less of a game. It looks like there is one and only one way to win some games and that means it is not fun. If you are going to do this, give hints. There is a slider that is very difficult to see to turn the sound off. Thanks.

Love this game, we really enjoy it. But why cant we rotate the screen when playing on our iPad?

This is a well designed game but our only issue is not being able to get landscape mode working.

We love this app. We use it all the time. Our only gripe is theres no consistent landscape move for iPad. The app will rotate occasionally, but its hit or miss and theres no way to choose that option in setting as far as we can tell.

The game is super fun, but we’ve found that particularly when playing fast (several of the achievements are speed based), the game glitches out. The only way to break the freeze is to restart the game, which results in a loss for some reason. Its too bad- we love the game otherwise!

Very fun and addicting game. Needs landscape mode for iPad Pro though. Wonder why that wasnt something already included.

Game has been glitchy lately. The game will no longer play when holding iPad horizontal. Tried to report the issue elsewhere but had no luck. Am addicted to the game otherwise!

We do enjoy the game, but it feels like the non-AA version was never finished. Theres no tutorial – that we can find – and the rules arent intuitive. We learned how to play the basic game via Apple Arcade, (yours was the only game we kept after we canceled the subscription) but we dont understand the concept of opening 5-suit and above. Will we ever get full access, or will it always be something to be won? We dont understand how you earn any of the 5 points needed for 1 free-play – is it random? Score-based? We hate all your ads but we cant find an option to buy the game. (Not sure we would, but Id like to know the cost.). Finally, will you please include only those ads that let the user turn off the sound? We like to play while listening to podcasts, and it is really annoying to lose the sound when we win a hand. We understand that ads are where you get your revenue but they are very often repeats and we dont like being stuck listening to the same stupid music over and over again.

This is a fun game and we enjoy playing it. But lately we have been unable to exit the ads. They wont advance to a screen that can be closed. Life is too short to put up with that.

We played the Apple Arcade version every day. In fact we were paying for Apple Arcade exclusively for this game. Then we realized we could pay for this once and just use this version, but its real bad. Its so buggy and slow and looks to be abandoned. Oh well. He got our $3 so we guess thats the end of it.

The card game is fine but the ads take over and can’t be canceled unless you watch them all the way through. It would not let us get to the main screen to restore our purchase. SO FRUSTRATING.

Bought and paid for all the decks 2017-18, now it says they cant find our data in the cloud. Also, cant do landscape mode again. Love the game, went to college w/ the dev (probably doesnt know us, happy for his success). 5 star game is a bit buggy.

Not being able to play in landscape makes this useless on our ipad. Used to love it.

Want to play on the plane or in the car on a road trip? You better have internet so you can load an ad before you can play. Completely unusable without internet. What a trash design. Dont bother with this one.

For the longest time, this was one of our favourite games. Then suddendly, landscape mode disappeared without a warning. This makes it effective unusable for us. We will not fiddle it out of the case just to awkwardly hold it while playing. Please bring landscape mode back for good and we will happily give back the 5 stars.

Does not let you play unless an ad plays before, even when we have wifi they give us issues waiting for ad to load, Its insufferable Im just trying to play solitaire, GET A DIFFERENT APP UNLESS YOU ALWAYS HAVE WIFI.

It was perfect the way it was. Its unplayable for us. So sorry to give up this game as it was one of our favorites.

First time we’ve encountered an an app requiring an internet connection solely to load ads. A message letting us know that an ad needed to be loaded with an internet connection popped up on the second day we tried to play a game. No where in your description or requirements is this need listed. If this had been made known to us beforehand, we never would have downloaded the app. Hopefully you will consider being more up front with your intentions as an app developer in the future. Instead you wasted our time by not disclosing this from the start. We hope this review is helpful for you Zach Gage to be more forthcoming with your design choices.

Latest version moves is not lined up after a game in our 11pm.

After a few games, you get the hang of it. Once you do, its a ton of fun. The creator took a classic and made another classic. Also, the ads arent in your face every second. We bought the the premium version to support the creator. Awesome game :)

Pretty much just been trying to go for fewest moves on single suit and our record is still 86. Very well designed however and incredibly good twist on regular old solitaire. Would highly recommend!

Pretty straightforward and fun, whether youve got a few minutes to kill or youre taking a dump, this is a great way to spend that time with a deal or two.

Purchased the remove ads and the decks but had to replace our phone and now it is asking for us to pay again?? Great game but there should be a way to redeem purchases you already made. Besides that it is a great game highly recommend.

Nothing more zen then playing solitaire! This game updates the classic with some new rules which offer a greater range in difficulty level, depending on number of suits used. It has quickly become our evening ritual to play. Our only feedback to the developer is, while we dont mind the occasional advertisement, we wish they had a mute button like other games that rely on ads. Nothing more annoying then playing the game while listening to a podcast, then needing to manually pause the both the ad and the podcast at the same time.

This game is our favorite time waster, but it has a persistent bug that incorrectly adds lost games. We play single suit, specifically because we know that each game is solvable. We have 26 losses tallied out of the 5,000 games we’ve played. Its not like we’ve lost track of our losses. We know for a fact that we have never lost a game. Thats why we play single suit.

This little game is incredibly addictive. One deck had stymied us for months until the most recent update that fixed a bug letting you put a king on an ace. We never knew you could do that. Boom! #236 bites the dust! :-)

We respect that someone has taken somewhat traditional games and made them unique. We’ve only played a few of these solitaire games but now want to investigate more Gage games. We’ve played tons of card solitaire in our life and this ranks high on our list. We havent had a problem with ads yet but Im a believer in supporting people like this creator so Im sure Ill pay for no ads.

When you exit out of the game it defaults to a loss of the hand, so for those that complete every game, your percentage goes down. It lessens the challenge lowering the games fun. We hope the creators see this and fix that little bug.

Every game needs a menu button to access to a tutorial. Whether its been a minute since we played (and we cant remember the rules – which honestly happens more often than not since Zacks games bend the rules) or we want to show them to someone else – Everyone of Zacks awesome games should let you run through the tutorial at any time. Maybe thats already the case but we missed it – but Im trying to play right now and its been a couple of weeks and we dont remember the rules and cannot find a way to replay the tutorial. So that is literally our only complaint – you want people to play in a new way? Create and amazing tutorial? Let people access the tutorial when they come back to the game.

We would say this was a 5/5 if the cards we paid for were available to us, but we end up having to keep paying for them over and over again to no avail.

Really love this app but some of the challenges/achievements dont really seem possible. There appears to be some kind of bug saying we’ve quit games when we never have (Im stubborn). Not sure what thats about. The game appears to be abandoned so we wager these issues will persist. A shame because its an otherwise excellent game though!

Great game! Really fun and lots of replayability. But the ads are too much and too long. We get you gotta make money, but having an add before every game? And theres no timer of how long we have to wait. We never download any of the ads anyways.

App crashes on launch, once you get it to start and want to play a game it shows you ads that you cant exit out of when all you want to do is play. We get that ad supported play is a business model, but there is a better way to do that.

Hes done it yet again. New ad in an app we paid to be add less. How did it get that add? By phoning home. Developer inserted ads into paid version and app phones home. The developer updates this app specifically to insert an ad into the paid version. They now run a chiron atop the top of the ad for his own products when we paid to remove this kind of visual assault. Apparently it phones home as well because today it started calling for us to tap on the add. This developer acts like hes playing a game against his customers to see how he can get over on them. We will never give this developer another dime and we urge you to avoid paying to be lied to. (Oh, and we cant share our purchase with our wife even though she is listed under our account despite the fact the app claims otherwise.)

Bought it on another device and when we hit the Restore purchase button it says its loading then does nothing and doesnt restore the purchase.

Whole thing died after we paid for many sessions and now put us bAck to 1 with no clear way to restore our puchase!
