We put everything we could into making the best digital Sudoku game ever released:
-
We wrote a puzzle generator from scratch to create over 70,000 of the highest quality puzzles you’ll see anywhere. We spent weeks figuring out how to generate intricate and complex puzzles you won’t find in other Sudoku apps. Our hardest puzzles require wild techniques like “XYZ Wings”, “Hidden Quadrouples”, “Jellyfish”, and “Swordfish”.
-
Most people don’t know this but Sudoku puzzles are actually generated by programatic Sudoku solvers. The fastest way to know how hard your puzzle is, or if it’s valid, is to write a solver that knows all the strategies that can try it. With Good Sudoku, we run our solver as you are playing, so if you get stuck, it can detect what you know by looking at your answers and your notes, and then help you find the next technique you need to solve the puzzle.
-
Most Sudoku games classify difficulty into vague Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulties — But what do these difficulties mean? Typically they refer to the kinds of solving techniques that are required to solve a given puzzle without resorting to guess-and-check. In Good Sudoku we aren’t vague about it at all. We lay out exactly which techniques are required for each difficulty level. Good Sudoku allows you to practice them individually outside of puzzles, and keeps track of which ones you’ve learned!
-
When we first got interested in Sudoku we noticed that a lot of players spend most of their time looking at the board and counting. On easy puzzles, this counting serves as a way to increase the difficulty by making the puzzle take longer. We know some sudoku players love the counting but we found it a bit tedious and designed some tools to alleviate the busywork. At first these tools might feel a bit like cheating, but once your mind is freed up from counting you’ll have space to see the much deeper more fascinating side of Sudoku: all of the beautiful technique structures. Freed from the burden of busywork Sudoku becomes one of the best search-style games we’ve ever played. More fun than word-searches and solitaire, high-level Sudoku is a real treat — and with Good Sudoku and a little practice, anyone can learn it!
-
We noticed when looking at other Sudoku apps although there are often daily puzzle modes, those modes never include global leaderboards. Weird! Good Sudoku remedies this problem!
-
We wanted to make the best Sudoku out there, and while we’re proud of our puzzles, we recognize that puzzles come from all places. That’s why we built a quick and easy custom puzzle mode into Good Sudoku, so if you have a paper puzzle that you’re stuck on, or you’re trying some wild variant (Like the Miracle Sudoku!) it’s easy to put it into the game, play it, and share it with your friends. If the puzzle follows standard Sudoku rules, our hint system will even help you get unstuck!
We truly hope Good Sudoku can introduce you to, or deepen your love for this great game.

Community Insight:
If youre looking at this before buying, it is a really good app and we enjoy it!! There are some quirks, but this is a very thoughtfully designed app that makes us smile. If you are a beginner to sudoku or have played for years, you will enjoy it. We have actually learned a few tips and tricks (and learned names for all our old ones! ) this is like sudoku nerd heaven, and the design language within the app is lovely. Very easy to use. Okay now for the devs, our feedback: we wish there was a way to just say ok or skip on hints that wouldnt force us to mark it that way. We use limited notes and only use one color. Some hints force you to add the notes to your box. We get the app wont know what you know in your head without you marking it, but if we didnt write that number in our box, we KNOW that number cant go there. We dont need it Xd out because it throws off our notes, personally. We wish we could just say we dont need to mark it, just show a different hint now as an option in addition to the show us Also, we think that the difficulty levels are vastly overstated. The pro and impossible levels seem just like a normal hard and extra hard level in most books or apps Ive played. Impossible is a fun challenge, but to say these are much harder than any puzzle youll see in most sudoku apps is really kind of crazy. ALSO there is a bug where sometimes we will have to manually reselect the notes mode for each number. Sometimes we can enter multiple numbers without deselecting notes mode. Its confusing and then sometimes Ill put a real number and not a note number. When this happens most frequently is when there is no instance of that number already on the board, it will keep flipping back to normal mode thanks.
The interface is great, very minimalist and sleek. We like that it teaches the techniques. Only issue we have is with visibility- when we play at night the contrast on the app is too low, especially in dark mode so we can't use it.
This app has taught us a lot of techniques and makes it a joy to play. We cant play with other apps because this one is so feature rich. We love how the annotations work and that it will automatically do a lot of the grunt work for you, leaving you with just the thinking to do. Theres also a zillion puzzles so it will keep you busy for a long time.
Ive always loved the idea of sudoku but Ive never gotten into it. The hints in other games made it less challenging but didnt teach us how they came to that conclusion. On this game they show you why the number should be x instead of just filling in one or two spots to make it easier. Ive learned what to look for now and Ive progressively been able to do more difficult puzzles without the hints. Its been really fun! Thank you dev team for a genuinely fun game.
Ive tried plenty of Sudoku apps and this is the best one. The apps creators did a great job with giving you the option to remove tedium so you can focus on solving the puzzles.
Compared to several other Sudoku apps we have tried, this one has by far the best user interface.
Zach Gage does it again. Beats the pants off of alternatives and is SO MUCH BETTER than the NYTimes version. But please please fix the fairly frequent loading screen crash.
This app has helped us develop our skills to the next level. We were stuck at a hard level for years, now we understand the strategies and how to use note taking to help us solve the puzzle.
We think this is a fantastic app for playing various difficulties of sudoku and for learning the different techniques in sudoku. We dont use any other app for playing sudoku after trying a handful of them. We have 2 things to improve user experience: 1) Night colors improvement: the text color for the previously selected menu option is usually black while on night mode. With the dark background, it makes it difficult to see the text when it changes to Black. Occasionally it is the correct color (readable on dark background) but it seems random when it works. 2) iPad mini orientation: the ability to have the game in landscape mode on an iPad mini would be awesome! We see the store pictures show it horizontal but when we play on our iPad mini 7 we are unable to play the game in landscape orientation.
Clean UI, easy to use tools, and very clear technique tutorials. Ive improved more in a couple weeks of this app than we have in years of paper puzzles. Our only request would be a way to add a toggleable confirmation to the undo button like you have it for the hint button. We keep fat fingering undo when trying to exit a number focus and not knowing which cell we accidentally undid.
Hi, our name is Sebastian William Descy! We cant stop playing this game. We are getting really smart from playing this game. We just really love it, we could play Impossible level. These tools are very good. This is the best Sudoku game our dad ever played. Download Good Sudoku+ today. But please pay for Apple.
We never write reviews but Apple Arcade is worth it for this game alone. We wasnt that into Sudoku before this but Im now past level 2000 on the Expert puzzles (its tricky to do the next level impossible ones). If you thought Sudoku was simple, there is lots of strategy this app has taught us. Not sure what Ill do when we run out of levels.
This app tries to do it all. But it just reminds you of how broad the amazing game of sudoku can be. It tries to be everything to everyone and it mostly succeeds. At the expert level, the explanations of the different tricks is extremely succinct to the point of confusion many times. But those tricks can be pretty complex necessitating looking elsewhere. Even the tutorial can leave you scratching your head. But the tutorial/training has MANY examples that help a lot once you figure it out. We love the error correcting that doesnt penalize you too much.
Its really good. A lot of the complaints on here could be fixed if they dug into the settings menu more.
Thanks. Love all your games. Any chance thisll get a refresh. Seems to be some display bugs in the latest OS. We havent played in quite a while so we dont exactly know when this started but Im pretty sure it didnt do this before. Labels often disappear from the screen. Mostly the back button but sometimes others.
We love this game so much. It is the only reason why we pay for Apple Arcade every month. We have always been good at sudoku, but we never had particular fun with it because it was just repeating the same strategies over and over until we just had to guess. With this game we have learned so many new advanced sudoku-solving strategies, and it turns sudoku from a tedious task into an actual puzzle for us. And there are so many games ! We are on impossible puzzle 300 something and there are thousands – endless fun and challenge for us. Well done.
Im addicted to this game somebody please take it away. We can see on our iPad where we our fingers hit the numbers. 10/10.
This is the best sudoku game on iOS. And the second best doesnt even come close. This actually has difficult puzzles and the note taking, tutorials, and visual clarity make this better than anything else out there.
You guys should make a solitaire app.
Thank you for all the neat features included in the app. Im new to the game, do you have a FAQ for people like us? Im interested in learning the most basic counting strategies. Thank you.
This is not a knock on Apple Arcade, but we have re-subscribed 4x now solely to have access to this absolute gem of a design – Soduko game. If u posted it on the regular App Store we would drop $10 without any hesitancy and so would many others Im guessing.
We LOVE this app. We didn't play sudoku until seeing ads for another sudoku app recently, lol. We have one observation which is that this game definitely suffers from something we've noticed is ubiquitous with games that have this level structure. That is, there is a skill gulf between levels 3 and 4 – or expert and pro here. And our one complaint is that we sometimes accidentally click things like "hint" or one of the numbers, and we never want the hints because we like to wing it, and idk if it's because we're autistic or what but some of the hints come off condescending. Like the ones for when it's a number all on it's own. It just feels unhelpful.
- If we want to see all possible numbers for each cell, we can ask the game to do all that busywork for us – The 'classic' mode lets us play old style without any of the helpful features getting in the way (sometimes we like visualizing where numbers go) – Optional hints with brief explanations of each technique – A wide range of puzzle difficulties.
This app is absolutely fantastic. Its got: lots of great features to make solving Sudokus less tedious, its got a hint system that automatically detects moves if you get stuck, and finally note taking. This app is snappy. It has a feature rich mode called Good that will automatically pop-in lone candidates for you. Theres also a Classic Mode that removes all of the features in Good Mode for an extra challenge. Mainly it takes away the auto-fill, but also removes the smart buttons that will highlight squares with potential candidates for each number. It makes pattern seeking a bit tougher. Finally theres an arcade mode that will dock you a life (three lives at the start) when you make a mistake. Personally we stick to the Good mode since we think the fun is in finding patterns and we want to use every tool at our disposal. Now as with all great things, Im going to list some things we wish were slightly better. First thing: note taking. We want more than ONE color. Two colors would be perfect. You need two colors in order to solve using 3D Medusa. Now, once you learn the rules for 3D Medusa you can practically solve all of the hardest puzzles by using it. One might even say 3D Medusa takes the fun out of finding patterns, since its such a powerful tool that it can pretty much be substituted for a huge variety of moves and force a win on the hardest puzzles. But we digress. In any case, we did once have a brilliant app that the creator lost the source code for that had two colors and a solver. This app ALMOST is as good as that one was, and the improvements with auto-fill in and highlights are useful. It really just needs that extra color. Im begging this development team to add a color to the note taking. Im tired of using strike out as if it were an extra color. It confuses the auto-fill feature as well and its difficult to replace stricken-out numbers with normal numbers again.. You have to delete them under strike out mode and then create them again under the normal candidate mode.
Ive loved this app! Ive played sudoku for over 15 years, but we were stuck at about the same level of difficulty (hard ish) for a long time. We couldnt find instructions for more advanced techniques that we could easily apply. Enter this app! When we started a couple months ago, we were having a hard time with pro levels, especially Y-wings. Now Im able to do impossible core levels with only occasional hints! Ive enjoyed sudoku more with this app than we have in a long time. The one bug Ive found: if youre in the middle of a puzzle and you reopen the app, if you then hit resume on the main page too soon, itll play both the main page music and the regular puzzle music at the same time. If you wait about 5 seconds for the main page music to start playing, its fine. Very minor in the grand scheme of things, though, and certainly doesnt detract much from our great experience.
Honestly best sudoku app Ive used. Love the note taking with the swipe of a finger to the teaching section on new techniques. We pretty much never review apps so it has to be really good for us to bother writing a review.
Ive tried many many sudoku apps, and this one has worked the best. The only thing missing is the ability to color code chains. We use the blue notes to help with this but color coding like you can do on sudoku slam on the web would bring this app to near perfection for us.
Whats the name of the song? That song is lit. Need to add it to our study playlist. Lol. Love the game too.
This is a very well designed sudoku app that makes the game fun while also helping you learn and improve. The Good mode is truly a game changer. So much of sudoku is busy work of checking columns and rows over and over and over again without applying any actual strategy. The Good mode speeds up this process by highlighting cells which makes it way more fun and faster to play. And then if you want to improve, using hints when you're stuck keeps you going but also teaches you new strategies along the way. You can actually feel the difference as you continue to play and realize that youre picking up these more advanced techniques without even knowing it. Really great app.
We had a long review that got refreshed away. Basically, Good Sudoku+ taught us to play and love sudoku. The visuals are crispy and vibrant, but dont forget the soundtracks! Theyre right up our alley and made us feel awesomely zen while we were stressed. If we had to keep just one game on our phone itd be this one. Its very Apple. We like the offering on Apple Arcade as it respects privacy. Keep doing what youre doing because its awesome work! (PS: there are a few bugs such as the numpad unbolding some numbers we didnt complete. Also in darkmode if you dont refresh the app the menus back button is invisible).
Absolutely fabulous. Great job.
Nobody freak out but we think we just mastered x-wings (this app is so challenging in the best way; definitely download!) ETA: ah, to be as young & nave as we were then. Tip for later/impossible techniques (e.g. Unique rectangles): look up the Smart Hobbies video tutorials on yt. Zach & Nick do a great job explaining the early concepts, but it can get pretty convoluted later on. This isn't their fault; there's just only so much you can explain in text.
Perhaps the best sudoku app for any phone ever.
Everything about this Sudoku is amazing. Make it harder, make it easier to learn how to solve harder, whatever you want. You can customize it all. Our only qualm is that we do not understand the scoring system AT ALL. We keep seeing that Im not in the top 250 for the daily challenges, but we dont understand what is needed to score higher or lower aside from the obvious of using hints or inputting incorrect answers. We hope they explain the scoring! Other than that, this think is amazing and addictive to our brain.
We like this game very much. We hope the developers can add Chinese so that we can learn better.
This is honestly the best sudoku game in the App Store. The tools it gives you are extremely helpful, especially for newer players. The tutorial explains how to play the games very well. We find ourselves playing this as work or whenever we have downtime. The music is nice and the cooler schemes look great. Hopefully they will add a classic mode that is more like playing out of a newspaper. 100% recommend this game to anyone.
This app is awesome- when we started playing, we had never really used notes before when playing sudoku. Now, we are using advanced technique and solving puzzles on the "Extended" difficulty.we would highly recommend this app for anyone who enjoys sudoku and wants to get better.
We love this app, so well built. Helps a lot with learning those advanced techniques. The only question we have is how is scoring done? Ill complete a puzzle without hints, notes, quickly, etc. But still not near the top. If there was a breakdown of how games were scored, we would know what we need to improve on. For example, are more points awarded for speed or for using advanced techniques.
We were not a fan of Sudoku, and Im scared of numbers. This game truly guided us how to play it. Now we really enjoy playing Sudoku.
Like the review title says this is really the only good Sudoku app that exists for iOS. It has such amazing features like autonote and themes but we just wish that Classic mode existed outside of Daily.
A bit of a learning curve to get the note features but they save SO much time. Gets rid of the fluff.
We love sudoku. We love that this teaches you techniques to get better. Our sudoku game is ON POINT right now. And the achievements make it fun to keep trying. Im currently trying to get 100 impossible eternal run. The ONE THING we wish this game had Right now if you get a square right and there is only one option left in that house it auto fills. A lot of the time theres just one square to figure out and then the rest of the puzzle is done. We would like the auto fill to not just be constrained to the house, but cover the whole puzzle. We would love to see when we get that one that figures the whole thing out and watch it magically fill itself in all at once. But seriously. We love this app. Its part of our morning routine. Lol.
This app blows all other sudoku apps out of the water. The hints, the strategy tutorials, the visuals, extra challenging puzzles for those who want them its THE app for sudoku lovers. Perhaps most important is that the app allows you to make the 2 kinds of notes (individual cell candidates and 3×3 box candidates) that are absolutely essential if you want to be able to solve harder puzzles. Every other sudoku app Ive played has made the glaring mistake of not giving players this capacity, which astounds us! So glad Good Sudoku came onto the scene to fix this. The only thing we would change about the app would be to add a highlight function which would let players color in cells backgrounds. Thatd make looking for x-wings/swordfishes etc. A lot easier.
We love this game. N we love the fact this app has taught us techniques to improve our puzzle solving.
Wow! We thought we were good at Sudoku, but Ive learned SO many new tricks and techniques using this app.
We have loved sudoku for a long time, but there were always puzzles at the end of our books that we couldnt solve even with tons of noted numbers. The explanations of strategies in this app helped us see the puzzles in new ways and allowed us to solve ones we couldnt before, even in our other sudoku books. Definitely worth a try if youre stuck on a certain level of puzzles, like advanced, and are looking to solve the expert ones.
The majority of puzzle games tend to have a cheap, immature, and obnoxious look to them, and we are so glad Ive finally found a Sudoku game that is both beautiful to look at and relaxing to play. We absolutely love the minimalist design and the themes available in the app. One suggestion would be to add a simple black and white theme.
This game is super addicting. The only issue is that it makes us lose track of time and then Im late. Our only suggestion is to have the option to show the clock on the top so we dont have to delete this app so we dont get fired.
Getting a phone call while playing wipes out your progress. Really annoying when youve spent 30 minutes on an Impossible level.
We love the game. The only thing we would add is something a bit harder than impossible. Other than that, this game has so many cool features and customization options.
