GWENT: Rogue Mage Reviews

We really love the game. We’ve played it multiple times through and completed the main story on Maximum difficulty. We would really like to see an update that gives more bosses and more cards.

We love the storyline and the experience. Its well thought out and challenging at the level you want it to be. The CONSTANT crashing breaks all of that. Strategically its very disconcerting and can cost someone a whole run. We want to love it, but fix the crashing.

We love this game except for one glaring aspect. The enemy is always the last to play a card (thats not the issue) and the game moves on and declares defeat or victory without giving you a chance to find out how you won or lost (more importantly lost). Theres no way to go back and see the last enemy turn. For instance, on our last round, we ended our turn 32 points up on the enemy. On enemys last turn, lots of stuff happened very quickly and suddenly it shows our defeat by one point. We think this is a major oversight and very frustrating. Its very annoying to lose on the last turn, but infuriating to not even know how or why!

We just got the brand new iPhone 14 Pro, and this was the game we were excited to play on it first. But the game even stutters some on this phone and froze completely after winning the very first match. When we opened the game back up, it did not save our progress and we have to start over from the first match again.

Such a downgrade from ThroneBreaker, we lost hope at the title and splash screen.

Any complete tutorial. Says double tap card but its frozen and doesnt do anything. Whats going on with this game anyways? We have played twenty before. This seems different. We dont understand what is going on.

First of all, any review complaining about recharging energy in a game you already paid for is wrong! The energy is used for each run and then completely refills when you start your next run even if you do them back to back. The game is a rogue-lite type deck builder game. The game itself is challenging but not impossible and really makes it fun as you have to seriously contemplate your next move. Any fan of Gwent will instantly fall in love and even if you just like the Witcher series we think youll enjoy it too. Story is cool as well as its about the creation of the Witchers. Fits screen well and no bugs we have run into. Money well spent for the fun we’ve had so far!

We’ve been waiting for another single player experience after Gwent for so long after Thronebreaker. We love the rogue like aspects for this game but just wish they added the three rounds back in for boss fights or something as well as more deck building options. We really hope they continue on with the single player Gwent games. (Another review mentions energy or P2W aspects, theres none of that here.)

Keep publishing single player gwent based games more frequently and add cards and trophies from this game to gwent multiplayer.

Not sure what CD Projekt Red was going for with this game. We’ve been pro rank in Gwent a couple times and have plenty of experience with the game. Rogue mage attempts to make Gwent a single player experience and its just not that fun. Many complaints and some good things too so Ill start with the good and then the bad. Good 1. The game can be played offline making it a good time when internet cant be reached 2. Gwent is a great game and you should try it if you havent 3. The game is challenging, so if youre into that, youll enjoy the challenge. Bad 1. Theyve changed all the cards in this game. Theyve changed some of the mechanics too why..? No great reason. But it makes the game confusing for Gwent players. 2. The graphics arent great, the writing is meh and theres no great story to follow. 3. Our biggest complaint is that this game costs 10 dollars its a cash in. If it was free with some dlc okay fine. But 10 bucks for this game is somehow a rip off. And 10 bucks isnt much. If you want to play Gwent, go buy it for free and play Gwent and buy all the dlc you want. This game is boring and tedious and isnt worth 10 bucks. Isnt worth 5 honestly. 4. To us theres nothing more frustrating than building up a cool deck, having everything right, beating a level and then having to start all over with a new deck. Why not let us keep our decks? Every run is the same, so many of the enemies are repeated. This game could have been great but its just not. For 10 bucks youd have more fun with a wishing well.

We can not log into our GOG account on iOS platform. Therefore our progress can not sync, and we cant see the leaderboard.

It would be alright if the game didnt crash all the time and when it does crash if youre in a match it starts over with some games taking like a half an hour, pretty disheartening when you lose that time multiple times.

One of the best parts of gwent was having the three rounds, and strategically losing a round to make sure you could win another. If you like the original gwent, skip this. This became like every other card game that exists.

Super fun and new a way to play Gwent.

Excellent addition to the Gwent family. Only issue is that we purchased on the App Store but the premium addition is not syncing to our Gwent game in order to receive the goodies we subscribe too. To be determined??

As a long time fan of Gwent multiplayer, this game does well in making the enemy (AI) consistently challenge and outplay you. Good job devs!

If you do not enjoy creative planning/ analytical forethought then this is a waste of money.

Got a bit bored with Thronebreaker due to there not being many changes in runs and enjoy the somewhat random way of playing in Rogue Mage Some of the bosses like bounty hunter are honestly much stronger than the elite bosses or final bosses which we find odd Other than that the only bugs we’ve encountered so far are the arachnids.

Game is pretty great. Only issue that we find that needs fixed is scrolling. Im having issues scrolling through our deck and also read dialogue. And once so far, the game glitched to where we couldnt read the dialogue at all. So small things! But great game none the less.

Every single time we face them they play the "deal 1 damage to all enemies" on their last card. Triggering their bloodthirst perk and wiping all of our cards off the board. The only way to avoid this is by us only having five cards on the board at the very end, but they would probably just outscore us.

Happy to get a single player Gwent game vs. The original PVP version. Tons of fun and the different decks provide a ton of variety and complexity. No freemium energy or timers here. Play as much as you want. Only recommendation, and reason for 4 stars, is we wish there was a way to sync progress between multiple devices, specifically phone and iPad. Also based on limited testing on iPad Pro performance needs to be improved a bit.

Overall, if you enjoyed Gwent – its a fun game. Theres some randomness to it where youll have a deck that simply gets hard countered by opponents on a good run, which can be frustrating, but overall enjoying our time so far. 8 hours has gotten us to stage 2 of the story (seems like there may be 6 stages in total?) and level 37 or so out of 100. Most decks unlocked, still getting key cards and all that jazz.

Like the game. Think its mostly great. Do feel like the matches take a while, especially when youre meant to traverse a whole map. We think some setting to hasten the games for people who want a shorter casual experience would be nice. Cut the deck size maybe? Id like more matches of shorter length if we turn the game on for a brief moment. We dont like that theres an energy bar with a timer in a $10 game. That exists in free games as a cash grab. We paid, so dont make us wait an hour or more to continue if we run out of energy. Ill have to discourage other people purchasing until its changed.

We really enjoyed the version of gwent found in Witcher 3 but you can barely see the cards on iOS less would be more IMO. We will give it another try on PC.

If you like Gwent, youll like this game. The rogue like part is fine, but personally we dont think the underlying card game is particularly good. Its repetitive and doesnt have much room for creativity or asymmetry. Some people seem to love Gwent. Having played this for a while, we dont get it.

The basic gameplay loop is fun. A few points against it: – Waiting through extremely slow repetitive animations between turns is very much not fun. We get tired of this frequently and stop playing. – When the game should take its time, it doesnt. There is little or no time to understand the effect of enemy cards when theyre played. Instead, one has to find the card on the board and then read about what just happened. – The game is poorly documented. Many mechanics arent easy to understand or are never explained at all. – Sometimes extreme spikes in difficulty. Its unclear whether Im unlucky or not playing well. If these things were improved, it would be a great game. In its current state its fine but not amazing.

Crashes every 20 min or so. Id wait for it to get patched before getting. Its good besides that.

Love the game despite the issues with the core gameplay loop. However the game crashes randomly on the iPhone 8p. Its really annoying to lose progress with a random crash. This problem is also in regular Gwent. We would imagine if we had the newest iPhone this would not be a issue. So older iPhone users beware. Wish there was a graphics toggle or something. Its not like the graphics are that intense so we dont get why it would cause the app to crash.

The fun puzzle/rouge elements are great but the crashing to the Home Screen ruins the experience. Game keeps randomly crashing. We tried all the trouble shooting with no avail. Our 5th gen iPad feels really hot when running it so maybe its just a resource hog? We been playing vanilla Gwent on it for years without issue so hopefully they will sort it out.

Im having a lot of fun playing, and we dont mind a few unexpected crashes, but every time we get to the ice dragon we get an error and the game will crash and we instantly lose the match. Even when we do win the battle; we get a message saying unexpected error and it will read defeat (even going so far as to highlight the opponents total score, despite ours being higher). When will this bug get fixed?

Dear CD project red. We like your games m, including this one. However its crashes every 10 minutes. It also has gameplay bugs where the numbers are not being updated between turns or when the cards numbers are not being updated when upgrading. We hoped the cyberpunk fiasco would motivate you to not release broken games, but unfortunately it is not the case here. Please fix the bugs.

Game has crashed multiple times on the last boss fight. No point in playing until they fix crashes that occur especially after getting to the finale and a chance of it giving you an error code or server issue.

What an utter disappointment. Think Cyber Punk as opposed to Witcher 3. Swing and miss.

We were having a great time playing the game until a server error caused us to lose against the first boss, 3 turns away from victory. Really hard to get into a game when you cant trust it not to crash in crucial moments.

Best out of 1 round is this even gwent? Takes forever to beat a fight because everyone has to play out their entire hand one at a time and watch all the slow animations. Just play gwent online and save yourself the frustration. Refunded asap. Also see steam reviews for more.
