Lowlife – Strategy Game Review

Lowlife Screenshot

Lowlife is a Strategy/Roleplaying game from Coast Media House LLC, first launched in 22nd June 2022.
It’s rated 9+ and currently has 1,385+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Lowlife Stand Out

All you gotta do is heal.

Take control of Lowlife and heal your downloaded Scripts as you scour a corrupt, dystopian future. Your goal is not to hurt the countless Villains you will face spanning across several Simulations and Raids, it is to keep your party alive so they can do the hurting – by any means necessary.

Throughout the Healing Simulations, you will incept Memories which can be used to trade for new Scripts – or if you have downloaded Scripts with their own god-rolled skills, level them up with Memories or by taking them with you! Sell your extra Scripts in the Auction House for extra Memories to spend. Also shop for other worldwide players' listed Scripts to use for your own.

There are 35 uniquely skilled subclasses of Scripts to be found, including Tanks and Melee DPS to place on your front line, Mages and Ranged DPS for your back line, and Shamans – a wildcard class that can be placed anywhere in your party setup.

Lowlife places you in battle with a variety of weak and powerful Villains, equipped with only a variety of healing spells to keep everyone (and yourself!) alive. Spend your gained Parameter Points to build the perfect healer and fit your play style. Sprinkle a little of your personal playstyle on top by spending Node Points in one of three skill trees to build your perfect healer specialization. You'll need it to get the highest scores on the Global Leaderboards.

Complete Quests and level up to gain access to a variety of Simulations with Bosses and challenges that await you. When you feel confident enough, team up online to take down a Raid Boss or two.

Lowlife is free to play, unlimited, with no commercial breaks. Also works with no WiFi or internet connection (Auction House, Leaderboards, and Raids not available with no internet).

This Strategy game offers engaging gameplay and regular updates for mobile players.

Recent Updates & Development

Latest Update: 12th June 2025

Recent improvements include:
-Migrated game logic to iOS 18 frameworks. My initial testing didn’t reveal anything too dramatic as far as battery efficiency, but there is a lot of headroom now for more tweaks and adjustments.

CHANGES
-Updated most screens with new UI and navigation
-Added transitions to some in-game screens that would just pop up jarringly
-Tweaked in-game UI to move around less during different phases

FIXES
-Fixed issue where battling would happen in between Villains fully spawning in
-Fixed issue that could cause crashes when Rebooting a Simulation

Note: Conserve Battery will have no effect as of Lowlife 1.50. The frame rate and animation adjustments that this setting controlled are producing abhorrent results with the updated internal framework. This feature will be revisited.

Community Insight:

Could you add a reset button please, Im running out of progression space.

The synergies with the spells are cool but if there were more spells with different abilities such as or specific buffs or even offensive healing spells that would be really interesting.

No ads, takes a bit to figure out but doesnt take too long to click, and feels like theres a lot in the free version.

Second time we downloaded it we enjoy it pretty good.

Its a very good and different game than the others. Im trying to buy something in it but it wont load. If the devs could fix this it would be great.

This game deserves more attention! Its fun and unique with sleek design and gameplay! We have yet to fully understand the gameplay strategy but it does a really good job of encouraging you to learn.

Love the remix, would really like to see remix added to labs, grinders, and raids. Would love to see the level limits eased a bit like within 10% of your level. Would love to be able to disable a skill from your scripts list. So many times a purple or red are better than the cosmic scripts because the cosmic is bloated with useless skills.

But our wizard is lv9 and has 103,533/675 xp and is not leveling up.

There is no where in game to read Lowlifes abilities (executables) unless youre actively in combat. You cant pause to read them. You have to press and hold the icon to read the description. And if youre killing villains too quick it will clear the description before you can read it. And if the villain is lasting longer, you dont really have time there to read the abilities without getting slapped around. Its making this game hard to break into. A screen to read the abilities outside of combat would make this more friendly.

This was a very cool idea but they took the minimalism too far, to the point that you get new abilities but cant tell anything about them except for their icons. Even in between missions where you can review the details of your companions theres nowhere to review what your spells are and what they do. And if there is such a place then we might deduct another star for poor ui design, to be honest. Its a great idea but to us not an enjoyable game.

Played once before and loved it – just redownloaded and cannot for the life of us figure out how to start from the beginning.

If you like playing priest in mmos like wow get this.

No ads at all you dont have to pay to get rid of ads and you can play as much as you want theres no stamina system. Overall an amazing mobile game definitely give it a try.

We really enjoy this game, and we previously had an issue with this game and left a review, and the developer actually responded and fixed the thing we were talking about, which deserves a 5 star review alone. However, its been a year or so since Ive played and would like to start a fresh play thru. For the lowlife of us we cannot figure out how to do it. If there is a way please let us know, we tried deleting the game and reinstalling and nothing works.

Lowlife is a fun game to pick up and play any time, whether you have 5 minutes to kill or a few hours. This game has thoughtful progression and mechanics and paces well. It doesnt fell like a grind; the quests lead you to progress organically through the levels. The in-game script market is great to trade characters. Really everything about this game is awesome. —– One criticism we have is that at higher levels (100+), we are seeing some frame rate drop because there is so much going on. Hopefully the dev is getting enough revenue to work on some more optimization in the future. Another thing, we wish there was a menu where we could drill deeper into the scripts' stats. We would like to be able to see the specific differences in subclasses and be able to see what the different moves do before we use a script. Right now, it seems like the only way to compare scripts in-depth is to vigorously test them in-situ. Another idea: maybe in the future, there could be more script customization to further develop your team. Maybe like add-on items that can further change parameters or something.

This is a fun game once you understand how to play it like other games with it was more people playing it tho so we can do raids with people one thing we do wish tho is that you are able to unlock more buffs for the team with different abilities.

Overall we think the game is great but we do think the game can get very hard very fast at some points and we personally think that it should be more steady and not instant but we still really enjoy and think the game is fun.

Overall, very good game to pass time. Not the easiest to learn how to play but once you get the hang of it, its a nice little game to play here and there. The in-app purchase is not required but also not a waste of money if you decide to pay it (just improves some functionalities). Somewhat lacking in endgame content and gets stale after a certain level, but definitely fun while it lasted.

This has weirdly become one of our favorite games on our phone over the last month. Despite appearances, this game is a TON of fun and is perfect for a quick little break. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Great game, easy way to pass the time. Auction house needs to automatically populate, it took us a while to find out there were heros for sale.

This is one of the best gaming experiences Ive had on the iPhone (since 2013). The interface is clean and attractive! The game modes are addictive and challenging. Gameplay is ad-free and high-energy You will find yourself looking forward to plowing hours into beefing up your squad. Keep it coming dev! Cant wait for the raids to be truly multiplayer. You killed it with this conceptI have always loved being the healerbe it Team Fortress or WOW you name it. All we can say is MOAR.

Love this neat little heal bot simulator. During intense fights, it really feels like Im back in WoW or FFXIV juggling heals while watching for mana consumption.

Ngl at first we wasnt so into it but we kept giving it a shot it was hard at first. But over time we had grown and we didnt even notice or realize that we were becoming harder to kill. This game is quite worth spending some of your free time or anything 10/10.

Lowlife is a game that we are completely hooked on right now. Its gameplay is simple enough, and rewarding. A tutorial would be useful, but its not hard to learn, and the discord server is helpful. Would highly recommend.

Definitely a game to play to kill time, especially good in our study hall classes to pass time quick, good level progression at a steady pace, buying the vip ticket increases that even more, overall fun game :).

Leaves a little to be desired but the simplicity is part of the beauty.

Im really enjoying the game, but certain parts just arent very intuitive, and could have used a small tutorial or popup explaining the feature, such as what you skills do. We were only able to find the details on our skills by accidentally swiping on them in the party/script management screen. Little things like that left us confused/unsure of what we were doing, though we were eventually able to figure it out whether by using the link to the guide on the main screen of the game or by accident. Still enjoying the game though, these things would just have helped us enjoy it earlier. 5/5 otherwise.

The mechanic of being the healer is interesting and the dungeons/quests keep the game moving well. But recently the player market was crippled by putting a level limit on scripts (party members) you can use. The only reason to buy a script was that it was higher level than you.

Ayyyy this is pretty good gameplay gets repetitive after you unlock all the spells though lost our interest within 4 days so we rate it:.

Its great game but why wont you have a tutorial game for low life because we dont know what you do a lot. Its also great thats theres no Ad. To us if we made this game we would make a tutorial because we were very confused this game. Its great but add tutorial to know how you play this game.

Ive been wanting/looking for a game like this for years. Something where you play the healer and have to keep your party alive. Im almost any gaming setting where healing/support is an available choice, we will always play that character. This game kind of does that, but there are a few things that just really turn us off about the game: -Theres no tutorial. We understand that some of the game is self-explanatory, but a lot of it isnt. We have no idea if theres any purpose to swapping out scripts, we dont know what certain stats mean, etc. -You cant look at spells outside of battle or in between rounds. Im sure over time we will learn what all of them do and mean, but as a new player, its very overwhelming to say here are 10 spells. Do your best to use them and keep your party alive. And then you use them, but it wasnt something you wanted to do, and now half of your mana pool is empty. -The fact that (it seems) your character cant fight when the rest of the party is dead seems silly. We know its a game about healing, but not being able to finish a battle thats so close to being done is a big deal. Also, as a healer, it would be nice to have a revive spell (again, Im new, so if this comes later in the game, we apologize). Some pros: -The designs are nice, the UI is simplistic, and it provides quests to accomplish. -There are no ads, which is always a plus -The points to improve your healing come in rather fast, so you feel a little more in control of keeping everyone alive. -Theres no storyline, so you dont feel pressured to read walls of text or complete a whole story arc. Just battle and heal. Overall, we think its okay. Ill play it because its kind of what Im looking for, but if anything else came along with any improvements to what we listed above, we would probably drop this and play that instead.

We were excited to find this game, it plays pretty smoothly and the concept is a lot of fun. Issue: During the simulations, while healing, the icons jump up/down a few pixels and it is absolutely disorienting and annoying. It happens when the countdown for ability cast appears at the bottom of the screen. Please fix the bounding boxes for these notifications so the icons stay static during gameplay. Cant wait to give this game 5 stars.

Our phone could cook an egg right now… We doubt that this low graphic simple straightforward game should be making our phone like that unless something fishy is happening.

Unable to level up so no progress at all, scripts level up normally.

No indication of how to play, even after reading instructions and progress is not saved at all.

This game scratches a really specific itch that we didnt know we had, and it feels great. Good pacing and progression, and incredibly solid mechanics. It took us a little while to figure out what each of our abilities does (maybe a way to view descriptions of your executables outside of combat would be handy), but now Im perfectly comfortable with it all. Im level 55 now, havent yet explored labs, but very happy with what Ive experienced so far and really praying the game continues to offer plenty of depth going forward. Havent been able to do a co-op raid Bc of size of player base, but sounds like it would be great, and hopefully more people get into the game. Ive introduced our friends to it, but we dont think theyll enjoy it as much as we do. Again, its a very specific itch, and we cant see the game ever being mainstream. Cult classic potential for sure tho. Dev, youve made something really unique. We hope you can maintain the energy and enthusiasm to improve and add to this game over time. Its an idea that deserves a lot of love.

This is a very simple game that anybody could be good at, love that there are no ads and the premium pass is only a one time charge of 3 dollars. We have recommended this game to all of our friends.

Our only gripe was about the game overheating our phone and the lovely developer fixed it at his earliest convenience. Much obliged good sir.

If youre into the minimalistic look, or just like rpg games in general, this game is a hidden gem. Theres no in-game tutorial, but if you join the discord everyone is extremely helpful. Its really fun once you understand what youre doing and passes the time.

With the thousands of inbred ad-covered games soaking throughout the App Store, its so amazing to see a game like this. Its different, entertaining, and have amazing artwork (especially the animated sprites). When Im playing, we feel like the dungeons are catered to our level, but does not hold your hand. Though the first couple of dungeons could be slow, the game picks up once you can start swapping sprites, learning abilities, and learning the best perk distribution to clear the toughest of levels. Getting new sprites (characters on your team) are primarily earned through the shop and quests. The ones acquired through the shop are reasonably priced, and you could easily (with a bit of thinking power) make a team that suits you without spending a dime. The online market is a great idea, and gives an extra way to obtain sprites you wanna try out or sell ones you dont need to make some money back. Its unfortunate to see how little publicity it has over some of the great games on the App Store, and we hope this game goes on to update and evolve into a popular game with all the recognition it deserves. TL:DR this game has real care implemented in it and we suggest anyone that sees this game give it a try.

Ive loved the recent updates over the year, they been major and much needed. Im excited to see future additions to the game to make it more fun. It would be nice to see a new UI when playing. Not sure what that could look like but maybe a worthwhile project.

Ill keep it short cause Im not rewriting everything we wrote until now. Its a great game through and through. Its not that complicated (once you get a grasp of the mechanics) and its fun. Only problem is that there are no in-game instructions on how to play and Ive seen that this was pretty much the most complained thing in the reviews. Honestly just have some patience. If you got the patience and are able to sit through figuring out how to play its fun. Personally found the process of finding new features we had no idea existed and then laughing at ourselves for how stupid we were (theyre rlly obvious) to be quite fun. Anyways just have some patience and get through figuring it out and then play all you want. Its a great game. Tips: if you need idk – Missions require you to use memories to activate and then you need to go to active missions to collect the reward once you complete it – Once you defeat an enemy there will be a brief moment where skills wont activate. Once you move onto the next enemy you can start using skills again. – Theres no other method (that we know of) to leveling up the Healer besides mission rewards and completing levels. Same with the other scripts – Hitpoints = HP (obviously) -Scripts are the characters – Script failure means death of a character – we believe that any script failures revive with a tiny amount of health everytime you defeat an enemy – Gambit(its one of the skills) works on other scripts so just use it on the script with the highest Hp and then heal that one – You can get new scripts from the auction, missions, or the shop.

We dont really understand whats going on :( A tutorial of some sorts would be nice so you could get a general idea of whats happening.

The game was fun, but when we had it installed it would drain 1% every 3min even if the app was closed.

Dont understand whats going on.Good idea, poor execution.

Hey this is a great game and its super fun, our ONLY suggestion is, give us an auto loot option, its very annoying having to tap on the loot and if we don't the game just times out and our phones lock, id like to be able to afk grind while om busy without having to keep an eye on it.

Its a fun game, we enjoy seeing ourselves slowly get stronger. But, we dislike how inside the market, where you buy allies, it takes 24 hours to refresh. We wish they could make it 12 hours or something.

This game does so much so well. It captures our attention, the progression is fun, the use of RNG adds replayability without taking away from the enjoyment of the game, and the graphics/UI are gorgeous. We love the vibe to the whole game! Also, the information website is very well thought and presents info about the game in a logical and organizers manner. Its surprisingly useful. We love the gameplay loop. It is satisfying to progress, challenges are fun and indeed challenging. Its not too easy, but it isnt so difficult that it fails to entertain. This game was clearly, and continues to be, designed for substantial entertainment. It is very worthwhile, we highly recommend.

Great game that gets a lot of updates. Im currently waiting for some harder levels (lvl 186) and we are very confident the game has tons of growth ahead of it which is very exciting. We would also like to point out that the game can be played free and is just as fun but we did buy the VIP for $3 (we mean thats very reasonable). We get addicted to free games so we have to steer clear from them but this is not in our face with micro transactions. Thanks for the great game.

This really scratched that itch Ive had to heal. We couldnt find the healing abilities described well in game, but the website has a great guide to the game to help get started and a description of each ability. We think we found the website from an in-game help link but we have a short memory and would have to go find it again.
