For a really hard AI, check out The Othello. This app is very well designed and a pleasure to use.
This is a really clean version of Othello. There are no distractions jumping out at you, or trying to force you to play multiple people at once. Except for how instantly the pieces flip, it feels more like being in the room with an actual player. The only request we would have is to be given a settings option for watching the pieces being flipped over. We learn a lot in real life by seeing what pieces are being flipped. We downloaded several Reversi and Othello apps trying to find one that would give us the feeling of playing an actual physical game. We are going to keep this version and delete all the others.
We would have given this app five stars, except for one really annoying thing. At the end of the game, the winner of the game is always backwards. When white wins it always says black. Black wins it always says white. This messes up the stats as well. We hope the programmer appreciates that a bad review will help him program the app better as easily as a good review. Since there is no button to press for contacting the programmer, we are doing it here.
While the look of this version is nice, it seems you can only play against the computer or another online player at the "game center." we really wanted to play against our friend who is sitting right here.
It gives a great mental workout. The AI is quite strong and the game play is very good.

Great game, perfectly ported to a smartphone.
There is no way we can find to remove the dots showing your possible moves! We've been playing Othello for 40+ yrs. And don't need or want them. Look for a different version if you want this game! To the designers: add a settings button that allows you to turn off this feature.
Simple but Great. Can cause Short Nights, addictive like Tetris.
