Community Insight:
We have gotten more enjoyment out of this game than any other that we have ever played. Ive played a few. GameStop manager for almost a decade, so we have other games to compare it to. We put it down for a bit, but always pick it back up. Multiple characters to play through as. So much to do! Can not wait for the sequel, Saga Emerald Beyond releasing April 25.
This is the best combat system we have ever played! Simply stunning.
The battle system in this game really shines you can start by just spamming attacks, but you will need to read all the tips to get the most out of the timeline, counters, attributes, roles, etc. Being a Japanese game, it does not do much hand-holding but expects you to discover much of the nuances yourself which could be aggravating but we find very gratifying. This is a breath of fresh air compared to F2P titles with anemic battle systems, paywall and gacha mechanics. Its nice to be enjoying battles as opposed to all the other busy work f2p titles need. We havent see any prompt within the game to review it, which may explain the low number of reviews.
Amazing game. Have never played any saga games till releasing on ios. These games are amazing imo. Love the openness and replay value. Highly recommend these rpgs to any final fantasy lover. Please keep the saga ports coming. Love premium rpgs.

CHALLENGING/REWARDING LIKE PEERS: Final Fantasy Tactics Darkest Dungeon Star Traders Frontiers Banner Saga XCOM This game hits all the check boxes. Very well done. Dont hesitate, Pick this one up – Youre in for a treat.
Akitoshi Kawazu is no stranger to JRPGs. Hes somewhat of a madman, but you can trust him. SaGa Frontier next.
Must play game. Fun fun fun game. Best gameplay and best soundtrack.
Honestly this game will make you forget your problems with how people fall down like pro wrestlers selling bumps, or the lazy motions for cutscene (and dungeons) approach in a popup book, which we feel works better on iPad limitations, than consoles. The united attacks and attacking enemies based on turn order helps, as well as formations. Fun try while on sale, though it helps to see this as a visual novel with a battle system (with funny theatrics like lay down for brusque slice) over a full-fledged RPG. The game does explain things though the star points (limit moves until you can afford for the team) and glimmers (learn mid battle via a lightbulb saga style) are fun to discover. However, the difficulty spikes, mage charge attacks while only one gets to absorb to boost skills, and life points recover way too slowly with no inns (you swap a character out of 2-3 battles). We did like the interrupts, but enemies that arent killed can attack anyway, so it kinda defeats the point if you cant kill an enemy in one turn. However, it does help to set up the momentum formation to get more stars with every kill by the front row (switch formation if only 1-2 enemies but this and party swap cant be done mid-battle), and snipe for easy battles by searching everywhere for an event, to get discounted skills/magic for more actions. Unfortunately, using your personal favorite formation/role (some characters have better than others for passive support abilities) and just playing to explore (ie dont do normal/hard rated battles last) just isnt viable. You do have some character diversity though unfortunately cant skip repetitive mines dialogue (battle for half ore, get cheated and keep escalating your share).
The game itself is amazing. However there are 3 big issues. We wish they'd be addressed especially with the high price of the game you'd expect some quality improvements. 1) No option to get the Japanese voice acting. You're stuck with English dub no matter what. The Japanese cast had some amazing people and not having them here is extremely disappointing. There should be an option to select downloadable voices / delete English voices. 2) The home bar for iPhone x devices is always appearing everytime you tap the screen. It's extremely bothersome. They need to fix it so it stays gone unless you swipe up on the bottom of the screen. This is an oversight that actually hinders the game since buttons are at the bottom of the screen and get blocked by the idiotic home bar graphic. 3) Lastly, there should be a static virtual joystick option. Floating joysticks just don't work as well as a joystick that is set in one spot. This emulates the feeling of a controller joystick that doesn't move around. Also – shortening the app name so it fits under the icon would be nice. Sadly, SQE usually doesn't see any feedback and if we email them, they don't listen. And their best mobile rpg Chaos Rings 3 broke on ios13 and they won't bother fixing it. We wish SQE took more time to show they cared about their mobile customers.
We were excited but the scroll bar at the bottom of Apple phones wont go away which makes it tough if not impossible at times to read the small text. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! Thank you devs.
It feels like this broke with a recent update. Our mFi controller was working and all of a sudden it stopped. The controller works across multiple other apps for both iPad and iPhone, but not for this app across both devices.
If you have a lot of time of your hands, this might be fun? Confusing battle mode, unless you meat requirements you have to re-do the battle, like things out of your control like an enemy counter attacking, will force you to re-so the battle, but only after the battle has been completed. It just took us 10minutes to fight one battle and we just started the game, it shouldn't be that difficult. The battles also don't give you any explanation, sometimes you can attack, sometimes not, sometimes you attack multiple times when you didn't command it to. So basically the game is playing itself and you're just watching a movie, since it only lets you select the commands it wants. Way too many limitations.
