Severed Reviews

We can’t wait for a part two…. Or something of the sorts!!!! Great game.

We have downloaded apps for the past 6 years, but this is the first time we have ever taken the time to rate one. This game is absolutely stunning.

One of the best iOS games we have played thus far. Easily ranks in our top ten, and we have played a lot of great iOS games over the past 5 years.

We loved the game, 10/10 very exciting and interesting, beautiful and creepy.

Really got hooked playing this game. Swipe gameplay stays fresh with upgrades and enemy variety. Interesting puzzles and environments kept us exploring.

Very very good game! We originally encountered this game in it’s original form on the Vita, but we must say it has a comfortable new home on iPad. A must play, in our opinion.

Joins the ranks of Monument Valley, Leo’s Fortune, Lara Croft GO, and Oceanhorn as a must have iOS game.

Looks good, fun to play, good character design etc. We don’t have much else to say because it’s kinda hard to rate a game with a headache.

This game was fantastic, we couldn’t stop playing even when it was extremely challenging. Similar action to infinity blade (but we prefer Severed’s battles over that series) but with puzzles and dungeons that made us think of the Zelda series. The only thing it lacks is a new game plus mode. Get this right away!

This game is great. Lots of exploration and leveling up your character.

We’re only part way through and this could easily become the iOS game we sink the most time into.

This has by-far, completely surpassed our expectations of what this game would be like. We haven’t put our phone down since we bought this game (four hours ago). All we can say is that the story is amazing and even more twisted (so far) than we hoped!! Well worth the money we spent to get it and we highly recommend getting it!!!

We love this game so much. Cons: A bit too easy, drains lots of battery. Pros: Beautiful artwork, storyline, and music. We love the small characters in it. Great for people who don’t like pop-outs (me) but is still creepy and keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what’s around the corner.

Absolutely the best game we have ever played on mobile. Worth every penny.

This is a beautiful and strange game. Working through the levels is challenging but not frustrating. The combat system works really well on our phone.

This is such a fun game. Totally worth buying!

Just as good as guacamelee in its own way. A great game. Glad it got sprung from the PS Vita.

We loved guacamelee from the same developers but we were skeptical of what we assumed to be the simplistic slashing gameplay of Severed. We were so wrong. This is a super fun mobile game with the same metroidvania level design and leveling up of your character that made guacamelee so fun. The slashing mechanics prove to be deep and quite fun. This is one of our favorite mobile games we’ve ever played.

This game is unlike any game we have played before! For starters the art of this game is beyond amazing! The creatures you attack are pure genius! The game is simple to maneuver but the puzzles make it tricky… In a good way! The story is neat but wish there was more! We hope the game creators continue to add on cause we thoroughly enjoy it! Worth the money in our opinion!

The depth of exploration and combat is perfect, and the main character couldn’t be any cooler, this is definitely a must have.

One of the top RPGs this year on par with Banner Saga. We just finished and our fingers are raw because we couldn’t stop playing. Get this game now! (Especially because it’s currently on sale for Halloween).

The game is awesome and the controls fit so well on mobile!

Has actual gameplay and never asks you for more money.

An ingenious mashup of old-school dungeon crawling and frantic touchscreen slash battling. You get clever puzzles, pulse-pounding combat, and even a bit of crafting. Everyone rightfully raves about the art and music, but let’s give some love to the lowly map. The in-game mapping system is SO SO GOOD! Much love to the groovy two-headed bird too.

A brilliant game with beautiful game play, amazing graphics, a great pace, and a truly unique way of playing.

We’ve been playing it with our son and it’s been really fun for both of us. Has a Zelda-ish feel (exploration, puzzles, fights), with fantastic art and atmosphere.

Beautiful artwork and great game.

What a very excitingly weird game. So worth the purchase. Our only gripe would be that we wish some of the monsters would respawn when traveling back through areas already explored. The fighting is the best part.

And so we liked this game was kind of grotesque.

This is such a fun game that properly utilizes the touchscreen capabilities. You know all those other games with the virtual d pads and stuff that might as well just be on a game boy? Yeah, it’s not like that. The fruit ninja style hack n slash really works and isn’t overly ambitious at the cost of gameplay. The only real downfalls i’d list are that the game is pretty short and the replay value is a little low. There wasn’t too much lore either, not a lot to learn about the "nightmare world" or Sasha. We suppose we liked the game a bit too much. I’d certainly recommend Severed still. It’s fun!

Great dungeon crawler rpg. Touch controls are great. Difficulty is perfect.

Great game! Art direction and music are the excellent glue that hold story and game together. Fun exploration, fun combat, and probably ten or more hours for a full completion. Highly recommended.

There are so many great aspects of this game we can’t get over. The art and music are stunning and combined are very good at setting an eerie atmosphere. The game is filled with environmental puzzles just difficult enough to make you think but not hard enough to be frustrating. We finished the game the first time in 6 hours, and then immediately went back the day after we finished it and played through the whole thing again, this time paying attention to unlocking every single secret. There were about 4 extra hours of gameplay there, which was a treat. This is in our top 3 mobile games ever, for sure.

A bit tedious at times, we wish there were more ways to warp around instead of going through nearly the entire world because you forgot that one thing. Some levels are insanely hard but suddenly get beatable for no apparent reason. And we think even though we beat the game we got into a strange loop where we could repeat the last sequence over and over. Otherwise a very enjoyable game.

To keep it short: Art: amazing and the main draw (haha), although once you’ve seen one part of a section you’ve seen all the art for that part. Story: Very simple but any fan of symbolism and simple yet different story telling will enjoy this rather Berserk meets Alice in Wonderland meets Orpheus style narrative. UI: clean, simple, effective, good for tablets Gameplay: a good take on the tried and true cutting mechanic seen in other successful iOS games, the gameplay does get a little repetitive yet is widely spaced enough that you are always craving it. Hand exhaustion can be an issue, but it appears this was accounted for by the previously mentioned segmented gameplay, a useful new solution. Repetitive enough that we suspect that this will be the main reason people will drop the game. Navigation: 90’s style game filler. Our biggest complaint by far. Behind the nice visuals is a transparent attempt to pad out game length through brainless navigation that could have been filled with more interesting interactions. It does take aspects from Metroidvania style games with new abilities allowing progression in old areas which is nice, but because each areas art uses three or four interesting visual elements, parts of levels blend together such that if a map were not available, navigation would be impossible, with there being little attempt to give each room its own character. Little attempt is given to provide rooms with a sense of purpose or explanation for why they are just corridors. If the visuals were not stunning, this would ruin the game. Conclusion:Amazingly Fun and great for the short term, but not substantial enough to be a draw in the long term. If there was one more gameplay element or more diverse rooms to provide artistic incentive to exploring, like Metroid or Journey, this would be a near perfect iOS game, but as is, it depends on how much the visuals and story call to you.

For us this game was well imagined, fun, fulfilling, and challenging! The game took us about 11-12 hours to get 100% on standard (vs. Easy/casual). The story left us with some interesting ideas to ponder and we appreciated how it ended. We may have liked to have the average puzzle be more difficult, but we enjoyed the length of the game too. We found the creatures, landscape, and gameplay unique and engaging, with nice (and trippy) layers. It’s also genius that the game is played with one hand just as the character has one hand.

We love this game, and we’ve had it on the PS Vita, but the OST is not playing on the app! We’ve tried many methods within the app and we could not find the solution. Our device is an IPhone 5 with iOS 10. Will give 5 after this is looked at. Recommend the game!

After the first couple of encounters with an enemy, everything looks and behaves pretty much the same. There was nothing here to hold our interest, and we quickly tired of swiping our finger across the display to attack. The graphics aren’t particularly interesting or creative, either. The other reviews sound as though they were for some other game. It’s just not that great.

Beautiful awesome evocative game.

It feels like Zelda met Wolfenstein 3D, had a love-child, and hired Fruit Ninja as the nanny.

This game is honestly one of the best games we’ve played ever. At first we were a little edgy about getting the game because it was 7 dollars. But then they lowered the price so we immediately bought it. Severed is a game where you solve puzzles but at the same time fight weird monsters. It incorporates both attack, strategy, and puzzle into the game and a lot of games we’ve seen can’t cover all of that. Severed is a "cant put ur phone down" type of game. Our only advice for the creators of this game is to lower the price so people like us think that it will definitely be worth it. If we knew this much about the game before buying it, we would have spent the 7 dollars. TRUST ME ITS WORTH IT.

-Beat it in about 6 hours on standard mode, which felt like a good amount of time to us -Dungeon-exploring aspect is actually fun, with only small amount of backtracking -Art style is lovely, blends nicely together -Combat feels fresh, challenging, and overall awesome! -Difficulty feels balanced; losses don’t put you too far back, but instead lets you learn from mistakes and jump right back into a tough fight -Bosses are more cinematic than challenging, but still loads of fun -Music gets repetitive sometimes -Some input error here and there, but usually not during battles.

The controls are simple and fun, yet the game is complex enough to be interesting still! The game has a large amount of good gameplay and introduces complexity to make the game continually engaging!
