AMAZING! Game but it deleted our progress.
On iPhone mini, a tee little part of the screen is snipped off. Its not a problem but just knowing it, is a hassle. Other than the above, loved the game especially with the latest update where you have what we call cheats.
This is the kind of content we want to keep seeing available through Apple Arcade. Games like this make us feel like the sub is worth while.
The game plays at a higher framerate than intended, and so we find myself having to dodge and defeat bosses at roughly double speed. We dont think the authors intended this particular challenge mode.
Funny dialogue especially squid baron. During our play through, we experienced one soft lock when the drill transform tried to drill into undrillable material and wasted 1 hour searching because the final nugget did not correctly display the game hint for seer even though it required the seer (invisible treasure box in laboratory).
The beginning of the game is fine, and then you get to the first boss, an unpredictable mess of rng. The gimmick of the boss is you have to press one of two buttons to move her towards 1 of 3 light positions. The problem comes in when the light is random and doesnt linger for more than three seconds and the platform you have to move is pretty slow. The bosss attacks dont really help either, especially since they target you like they are heat seeking. The worst offender is when she throws down a huge wall of those spikes from bowsers castle when you are on the button, which you cant leave because the light you need to put the boss in to damage her is going to disappear, so you have to tank the damage. What makes all this worse is that on our first try on the boss, she got stuck, and the game is programmed not to spawn the light on her. So you just have to die. Overall a mess of the boss.
Lovely game. Im really enjoying it. But 2 separate times, we’ve started the app to find out that our savegames disappeared and that we have to start all over again. Honestly, we dont think we care how the game ends enough at this point to start for a third time.
This game was amazing! The controller support was implemented perfectly. We felt like we were playing a console game. The graphics and sound were excellent. The balance with exploring and using the power ups were implemented to our immense satisfaction. We will definitely be looking out for more Shantae games in the future.
We were starting up the game and it played an intro cutscene (very cute, by the way) and then, we started to play it. We realized it said we had no Game Center account, but we didnt care. But within seconds of starting up save slot 1, it said our Game Center account had changed, and we were going to warp to the title screen. But it took an unusually long time, and we realized we wasnt going anywhere. After millions of swiping away and starting the game up, it finally realized we had a Game Center account, let us in, and we played shantae. It was fun, up until it CRASHED and the catastrophe started happening AGAIN! WHAT THE HECK?!? Well, its pretty fun, so if this bug gets fixed, we will feel a lot better. Beautiful graphics and well balanced game! We love metroidvania games, and this was one of the best. Plenty to do and upgrade, while having a significant map to explore.
We never write reviews but we HAD to. We have never loved a game more. We are so obsessed we need another one. We literally played this non stop and beat it in 12 hours. It is a huge game with so much to do. Its easily one of our new favorite games.
Super fun game! We loved exploring all the crazy rooms and we never knew what powers we would get next. It really kept getting better and better with all the powers we were unlocking, and by the final boss we were super OP! This game has it all, good story, fun gameplay, plenty of fully animated cutscenes, and a ton to do! We especially loved the Xbox controller support. We played the entire thing with a controller with absolutely no hiccups. Absolutely astonishing how good this game managed to be on IOS no less!!
We want to see more games like this in the future. Thanks for the controller support.
So.. It was all fun, the animation is great, and the quality is amazing… All until we finished beating the Water Lily siren and we saved. It kicked us out, thinking that was normal, but it wasnt. We were at the save room that we saved at BEFORE we defeated the siren. It made us really sad, and it made us not want to play the game any time soon again. We hope we can fix this. Thank you!
So we dont have controllers but why controllers.
The game was pretty fun. We beat our first run in about 6hrs, but we did get help from an online walkthrough a few times to help us figure out where we needed to go next. One thing that was great about playing this on Apple Arcade was that we could transfer our saves between iPhone, Apple TV, and our Mac. It wasnt seamless, because you get promoted about which devices save to use, but it worked. This let us continue where we left off on the phone, and play on our Mac using a PS4 controller. It was SOO much better that way, as there are a lot of controls and buttons, and platform jumping thats in later levels required the precision of a controller. Playing on the Mac also let us pause and put the game in the background to come back later. The archaic console save-point system does not work well in a mobile game. If we get a call or need to do something else, let us put our phone to sleep and come back to the game at the same spot the next day, without having to find a room that lets us save. One thing that was pretty annoying was loading screens. So many loading screens! On the Mac, they seemed to go faster than on the phone. It also had a progress bar in that version, so that helped. But we dont see why they couldnt start loading assets in the background so you are not sitting in front of a loading screen for so long.
First off (in the title) we have NEVER played a game in the series. But it sounds good, especially since its a action game. Im sorry this is short but if you decide to make another game, have good luck.
We love this game. We wish Arcade had more games like this. What baffles us is the that this game is obviously a game that a controller would be the only way to play it and the game doesnt have controller support. We are using an iPad Pro and our hands hurt after playing this game. Please add controller support!
If your having trouble saving you need to talk to the old man in lime green, its kinda annoying but the system works well with the game and if you leave the tab open you can just drop in and out. The controls arent garbage, iPhone and iPads arent made for this but thats all part of the challenge. And you can skip the intro animation by holding down on the screen. Edit: Ok we still love this game but we cant hear the volume. The first thing we checked was that our volume was on and it was, but it wasnt working. The next thing we checked was the settings and on the game it said the volume would be at maximum potential volume. But when we take our Bluetooth headphones and put them on we start hearing that sounds again and we would like to know how to fix this because this, this is very annoying. Another Edit: Its working again, we dont know why it is but we can enjoy this beautiful plat-former the amazing music .
We cant believe this game is free! This is one of the most amazing games on the arcade we love the art and all the missions you can go on! They have stories and you get to fight monsters! We definitely recommend this app!
Shantae games have never been great. Theyre just decent. And though the production in this version is very nice , the controls are bad. The hair attack mechanic is stiff and the iPhone controls make it harder that never to move and attack. This game was designed for another platform. Some UI elements are obscured and the menu UI is confusing (especially when assigning cards). The choice to go with metroid level design is a popular one. But like most, the attention to detail, guidance, hints, exploration, and secrets in this game are very lacking. Gotta do more than just stitch rooms together and make us run through them to collect knickknacks. For a game series thats essentially metroid for babies (no shame. Babies have to start somewhere) we would have liked for all the rough edges to be smoothed out by now. How many times has this formula been reused?
Honestly its only a 1 star for attention since thats what works but please add a way to skip the intro animation we had this app crash the first time it booted and stuck in a loading loop the second and we’ve had to watch the intro multiple times Makes us not want to load it up to play among the other things on Apple Arcade.
Downloaded the game cause we got the apple bundle, but we played it once and our last saved game didnt save at all, we got everything got all the keys and all the nuggets. Just didnt let us pass the boss level with the water Lilly den and we had to start all over in a new game slot same thing happened again. We watched YouTube vids to see if we missed anything, no everyone did the same thing. And the boss level door does not open??!!! Wth!!!
Great game, we already lost our save file back in October. The controllers are absolute garbage, its borderline unplayable.
This is a game on a mobile device, something that may not stay up and front for extended periods of time due to interruption, a text, a phone call, or any other myriad of notifications. Then coming back to the game any progress since the last save is lost. Either implement an auto save system or allow for manual saves.
This game is great. We love the shantae series so we were excited to give this one a shot. The problem is that all of our save data got erased for no reason, which is super annoying.

Its great another amazing Shante game however it being on Apple Arcade is not that great we would rather you have to purchase it then have to pay money a month that monthly subscription brings the whole thing down a great deal.
We’ve played games with bad graphics and controls before, but this one still managed to surprise us with its clunky awkwardness.
We have played this on our phone and on our iMac. We have tried to play this on our iPad Pro and cant get to our cloud save.
Love the game but it keeps crashing close to the end of the 5 minute rush to save Kill all the monsters level.
First of all this is the best Shantae game imho. Everything from the visuals to the music and gameplay are excellent. Love Metroidvania type games and this is at its finest. Finding things and searching for areas missed is so satisfying with new abilities and its just downright fun and addictive! There is only one MAJOR suggestion to fully enjoy the game: USE A CONTROLLER. Other than that this game is perfect. 10/10.
We love this game. We play it whenever we can. But there was a glitch when we were powering the fans on the beach to get the ore to make the armor for Shantae, where instead of uncovering a piece of ore, it gave us a gold nugget. Please fix this( If it is a glitch ) because we cannot continue the story.
Every once in a while, we enter a save room and start to save our game. Upon leaving the save guy, Shantae remains frozen in place and the game immediately crashes causing us to start over from the beginning. Please fix this.
We cant get the turtle stomp to work and we dont know what Im doing wrong. We love the game but we feel like we’ve tried jump + swipe combo every way and it still doesnt work. We feel like Im stuck.
Other than a small issue with crashing in a later stage of the game, this is another great title. Absolutely great. Would highly recommend.
The game is great but now we cant move any further because the mechanism for turtle stomp DOES NOT WORK. We’ve tried the mechanism repeatedly and it doesnt transform. Hopefully they can fix the functionality of it so we can keep playing.
Near the end, where youre on a timer and have to beat all the enemies, our game keeps crashing when we defeat all the enemies, or when Im in the middle of it. Crashed on us 3 times already. Playing on an iPhone 8.

The archive is lost. Every time we finish playing, the game archive disappears, it has happened twice, and the 6-hour game play disappears. Every time we did save game by the green npc.
The game crash during the timed trial to avoid explosion. Specifically when exiting the 3rd from bottom room on the left side with the key chest. Right now progress is completely stuck. Please fix. Will give 5 stars when fixed.
This game crashed multiple times in a row while we were doing the timed quest to open the energy vent at the ocean bottom, causing us to have to repeat it. Once we managed to get through that? Lots of random crashes on the airship and the. Consistently when battling the final ultra siren boss. Seems like if you use the heart dance a lot to refill your hearts it will eventually bomb. Every now and then Ill give It another go, but we cant finish the game because it will just dump us to the home screen every time. THIS IS NOT OK.
Love this game we usually dont do the iOS updates but when we realized we needed to for this game we did it. Yeah the controls are annoying Im sure it will be fixed. When is part 2 coming out, says spring but just get it in now please ! Wish we could by the full the game it was an option. But if you love games that are action packed , story , quest , boss battles this is it !

Our 1st Shantae game, was really not disappointed. Could use a little more guidance to things like the power ups, bosses took a while to beat but we absolutely love it, dripping with its own personality from another world.
Im ready for the update!!! Cant wait to play the next part!
