A Glimpse into Sudoku Extreme: Classic Number

Sudoku Extreme is a beautiful way to experience classic Sudoku puzzles for both beginners & advanced players! It’s a great way to keep your mind active while relaxing to pass time.

Each puzzle has only one solution. The puzzle comes with a few cells pre-filled. Your job is to fill the remaining empty cells. Fill the empty cells with numbers 1-9 in a way that each row, column and block (3×3 cells) only contains a single instance of the number 1-9.

  • No ads. No subscriptions.
  • 6 levels – beginner, easy, medium, hard, unfair and extreme.
  • It is highly customizable with many beautiful themes as well as settings to customize the app exactly the way you like it. App comes with both light and dark amoled themes to be comfortable on your eyes!
  • The simple to use notes and hint features help you if you get stuck but we encourage spending time trying to figure out the puzzles without using hints. Cells filled with use of hints don’t get any points.
  • Haptic feature gives a positive vibration when correct and negative vibration when wrong answer is filled. This can be disabled in settings.
  • If you make a mistake you can use the undo, delete and redo buttons. Note that each mistake deducts points from your overall score.
  • Long press the undo button to restart the game
  • After a game is finished, you get your overall stats like total time spent, best time, average time, overall score, hints used, mistakes made etc. Sudoku Extreme also comes with a graph of how your scores progress over time. As you play more difficult levels, you get more score. Each higher level gives twice the number of points as the previous level.
  • Game can be paused and you can resume the previous game when you come back.
  • Sudoku Extreme can automatically pre-fill the notes and auto-remove them when they are used in a row, column or block. Though we encourage disabling this setting and filling it manually as it makes your brain more active! Manually filling notes also gets you extra points!
  • The quick fill feature lets you tap-and-hold a number and then simply tap cells and it will fill it with that number.
  • Numbers show how many instances of that number are left to be filled in the puzzle. When a number has been used 9 times correctly, it hides itself. You can disable this setting if you like.
  • You can swipe up/down to enter notes numbers quickly without having to enter edit/note mode (setting needs to be switched on)
  • "Export Scores" from the app. This can be used in Excel.
  • Advanced levels, Themes & Settings customization are part of a small one time only in app purchase. No subscriptions. No ads.

Edit: we think the scoring system is broken at a certain point. Still a 5 star game, but until we can see the specific calculations for each of our highest scores, we cannot remove this. We read the scoring template and it holds true up to a certain point, then youre capped So many ways to customize this game! Was not expecting this. First app we’ve purchased in a long time. Great job! We are curious about the scoring system because our friend and we cannot increase our score anymore. It feels like there is a cap.

Im enjoying this version of sudoku. Most of the features that are needed in a sudoku app are here. The hard puzzles are VERY challenging. We appreciate the automated pencil mark feature very much. The highlights are useful (though we do find some color themes to lack sufficient contrast). We have a few suggestions for improvement: The coloring technique is not an option on this app and it could be a very useful addition. We sometimes use a solver to learn more about the extremely difficult techniques. It would be nice to be able to export the board in its current solve state to make that easier. Or, maybe the hint option can give a tutorial on the technique used to move you ahead, rather than just exposing an answer.

Great game other then why cant change any settings, should be able to change some of the settings. Totally stars.

The limitations of the game are overly cumbersome. All hints are filled in and it records incorrect answers if you try to leave a cell without selecting a number. There are an impressive amount of options available but you are required to purchase the app to get anything offered. This is not something we would recommend to a young adult that is trying to enjoy a few minutes of quiet or anyone else that is looking to relax. There are other similar apps out there that better put together.

Unless youre looking for a version of sudoku thats already filled in and doesnt require any thought, you will have to pay. Some apps require you to progress though the tiers to unlock the next difficulty but this one doesnt offer that. Beginner is the only free option.

Literally the only sudoku app we’ve found that doesnt take your data, zero ads, dark mode, AND the developer is actively improving it based on user feedback. We paid the $3.50 to unlock the rest and that was it. Can you add a feature that allows us to turn off the highlighting of rows/numbers when we select a box to input a number? Similar to how it is when youre adding hints? Thank you!

This app is amazing! Auto notes was a must have for us which Sudoku. Com app doesn’t have. We love the different themes and difficulty levels. So many great options for how you want to play. The only improvement we could think of is the teaching hints. This game gives hints as giving you the value of the cell you select.

This is the best and cleanest sudoku we’ve tried. Well worth the one-time price. A few suggestions: 1. When we want to de-select all of the highlighted cells to see an un-highlighted board, Ill click below the number row in the empty area of our pro max screen. However, the touch fields for each number extend so far below the actual number, that we end up accidentally hitting a number and filling in a highlighted cell – sometimes without realizing it – and it ends up messing up our board. 2. We like to play in dark mode. The border around the individual cells are very hard to see because they are almost the same color (or almost as dark) as the cell background color. Please lighten up the individual cell border color a bit. Otherwise when you have a lot of notes in adjacent cells, they all seem to just blend into each other and are hard to distinguish. 3. When you tap a cell that has notes (e.g. 1,4,7), the numbers 1, 4 and 7 at the bottom should be highlighted. Otherwise, good job.

We bought this app because we liked the features and set up enough. But we increasingly regret it because the skill levels are truly bizarre. We dont know how else to describe it. We’ve been playing sudoku for years and we usually play medium or hard levels. On this game, beginner is hard and it goes up several more levels. Its so strange. When we want to relax we like to ocassionaly play an easy level just to zone out for a bit, but thats not possible on this app. If theyd fix this issue and make the levels more appropriate to their category, we would give it five stars. As is, we find it really obnoxious because we play most often late at night to relax and even the lowest level wakes us up because its a challenge. Seasoned sudoku players should be able to breeze through the beginner level.

The app works well, its sudoku. We chose this version of sudoku solely because it was the only version we could find that did not gather information. And chose to buy the ad free version as a show of support.

Since picking this version up back in July of this year we’ve logged almost 200 games in it. Theres a ton of options, and our favorite by far (well 2 now as of yesterdays update) is that we can have all of the possible notes pre-filled!! And as of yesterday we can export our game stats so we can check them out in a spreadsheet and make our own graphs. Perfect if youre a DataIsBeautiful redditor If your old favorite sudoku app is boring you or if youre new to the market and looking for a solid sudoku app, give Sudoku Extreme a shot mauirixxx.

And even better developer support. If you are seeking a perfect Sudoku experience for your phone, you have found it here. Highest possible recommendation.

For this to be timed (an option got those who like challenges) the mail # keys should be spaced out more and blocked in because those with iPhones have to use their fingers.

We thought we knew all the tricks, but this one has a difficulty that is harder than the other sudokus we have seen. We had to learn a new trick, and that is cool. Prior to that, we really didnt think hard ones were hard. You just need to know what to do.

We were looking for a Sudoku app that wouldnt bombard us with 30-second unskippable ads like the others do. This one looks promising and offers many cool features but we think it is odd that we have to pay for the premium version just to play traditional Sudoku on what appears to be the ultimate Sudoku app. Specifically, the auto-fill notes and hide incorrect answers features are very cool but they are turned on by default and require a $4 app upgrade to toggle off. This is not a real Sudoku app to us. We ended up deleting the app without finishing the game we started because the auto-filled notes ruined the actual game for us. We would love to use this app as our main Sudoku app but we think we will stick to our plain paper Sudoku.

This app looked really good but it costs $4 to change the settings, even simple settings like turning autofill off or turning vibration off.

Only east mode is unlocked, Im deleting & looking for another one.

Doesnt even deserve a Star. Please dont waste your money like we did even tho its only 3 dollars the free one with the most installs is by far the best one. We just want to see something. Worse 3 dollars we’ve ever spent in our life!!!

We have the most accidental presses when selecting numbers on this sudoku more than any other sudoku app we wish they would use 2 different rows to put the numbers 1-9.

We’ve played several versions of sudoku and this one was worth the $5 upgrade for all the features it has. We love the themes to make it easier to see notes and like the graphs showing our score/time history by level as Im always working to increase our score. Prefilled notes are great for faster play but you also have the option to turn them off for more challenge. Great game!

This game keeps us alert and is not boring.

Theres no other sudoku app that has everything this app does. Great themes, features, and extras.

This is the best sudoku app we’ve played. Simple and clean, with great features. Would be even better if there was an option to clear notes (I mess up a lot) and to color code notes (I probably mess up a lot because Im trying to track a few different ideas at the same time).

It is a superb app but we would have preferred if there was the option of deciding when to populate the game with the auto notes in the course of the game when it gets too hard to continue without having to restart the game then apply the auto notes.

Title says it all! Absolutely worth it, looks beautiful, plays so smoothly, and no issues. Keep up the good work!

Probably the best UI out there. Being able to quickly notate and switch is faster than any app we’ve ever used. In addition, extreme is truly difficult and you may find yourself stumped quite often. However we would like coloring and advanced coloring options. A way to manually notate various advanced techniques would be amazing.

Our go to sudoku app with lots of customizations and options. Youll not regret getting the app.

We think the gameplay is really good. We like all the options available. This is very polished. Our only gripe is that the puzzles (especially the easy ones) are way too difficult. We know the developer will say theyre not, because we’ve seen the responses to other reviews that have had the same issue, but theres no way these are in line with standard Sudoku difficulty levels. Not a chance. If youre a casual Sudoku player, skip this one because youll just be frustrated. For true Sudoku fans, youll probably enjoy it more. Id give it five stars if the easy levels were actually easier than the more difficult levels.

With a name like Sudoku Extreme, we paid for the harder levels expecting actual harder and extremely difficult levels. Well, its false advertising. The extreme levels are easier than the beginner free levels. You can understand our frustration and disappointment. We would prefer our payment of $4.99 returned to us. What youre really paying for is additional and unnecessary settings. Even weirder that the price jumped from $3.99 to $4.99 after a week of playing the beginning and easy levels.

Very extensive features, options, difficulty, and is just a lot of fun to play. We’ve played plenty of Sudoku apps over the years and we are glad we came across this one, easily one of the best. Nice work!

This is probably the most feature-packed sudoku we’ve found on iOS with tons of quality-of-life settings like auto-note at the start and highlighting cells with a chosen number/note. Long-press to auto-fill is pretty good, and we just found long-press to select number for single-touch-auto-fills. The nitpicks we have are technological in nature though. Long-press (and probably even regular press) should allow haptic feedback, probably as a toggle; if Im playing for speed then we cant see if a cell is filled from long-pressing because our finger covers the entire cell so vibrating the phone would let us know the long-press activated. We also have an issue with animation blocking the ability to touch immediately. We’ve found one legit bug though. With animation on, if you fill a cell (definitely with long-press, almost certainly with the normal way) and you cancel the animation super early (e.g. You accidentally slide your finger to the next cell too quickly from a long-press) the triggers of follow-up actions like erasing the number from the necessary notes dont fire. We currently cant think of any other extras Id like to have in a sudoku game, this one seems to have them all covered!

This is the best version of Sudoku we’ve played on our iPhone. The developer has lots of options, and the difficulty scales well. Great app. Thanks for sharing it with us!

If you play (too much) Sudoku like us, you will absolutely love this app. Tons of customization and the auto fill notes is a different take on the game. One note to anyone who plays rapidly: immediately turn off animations. If you dont, you will get quickly irritated by the fact that the notes dont remove themselves in time (otherwise you have to wait for the animations to play out before notes on the selected number are removed). It will cause you to make a lot of unnecessary mistakes. Once they are off, this game is perfect!

The team worked extremely hard to make it a great game. Especially love the long touch auto enter the number!

Love the color schemes and overall interface design. The haptic feedback is wonderful. Definitely our favorite Sudoku app. There are two downsides: 1. The UX is not fast. When we click on a cell, it doesn’t immediately select the cell and we can’t immediately place a number. This slows down our fill speed. 2. When a number is fully used, the app should not allow it to be placed again. We’ve had multiple times when we accidentally hit a grayed out number which then counts as a mistake (usually when we’re trying to fill cells quickly toward the end of a game). This can definitely help reduce accidental mistakes. Keep up the good work.

Seriously? How greedy can you get? We were considering supporting the developer by purchasing but the latest update shows pure greed.

Every attention to detail is on showcase in this app, from the theme selections, to the way you can customize it to have a distraction free gaming session, to how it displays every puzzle in a delightful manner. Couldnt imagine our days without it, its the perfect sudoku experience.

When filling cells quickly: it wont let us update them as fast as our fingers can move, and it doesnt properly update the possible values when animations are turned on. Also, some puzzles are poorly classified. For example, we’ve encountered to extreme puzzles (they required alternate inference chains, grouped X-cycles, digit forcing chains, etc) in the beginner difficulty. We dont know if they are randomized, but beginner puzzle 110 is missclassified in our app.

So – after the update, MEDIUM is no longer available in the FREE version… Now you have to pay for medium puzzles. Thanks. Good reason to delete this app.

Works well and the simple design is worth everything. The dev is excellent.

Good UI, first digital sudoku game we actually find playable.

We’ve tried out a lot of Sudoku apps. We have two Sudoku apps on our phone still, but we honestly never use the other one. The developer’s motivation for creating the app (posted on Reddit) it a wholesome one, and his response to users’ feedback is fantastic. The long press to continuous add the same number with each tap is awesome. Plus you can toggle to add it as a "note" with just a click and then click it off when you’re done. The intricacies that have been put into the app have paid off and make the "gaming" experience truly enjoyable.

The UI is wonderful and clean, as well as instantly intuitive for Sudoku fans. The app has many novel features not seen elsewhere, such as pre-filled notes. It’s clean and offers easy change of themes, which is nice- It’s nice to see a developer recognize not everyone would like their first choice of colors. Edit: Apparently there has been an option added to toggle swiping notes off. That’s a great addition, but it still doesn’t totally alleviate the ease with which you can accidentally enter an incorrect number. Aside from toggling into note mode until ready to make an entry, that is still an issue. At least now our problem is incorrect notes, not accidental incorrect entries. To the Dev: we still love this game, but we consider issue where you can accidentally enter a wrong answer to still be fairly large.

We’ve put in about three hours of game time on this app. The interface is attractive and allows you to use different themes. The puzzle difficulties are easy to super challenging and its a lot of fun. The app keeps track of your time spent, best scores, mistakes, etc. Theres a bar graph which displays your overall scores as well. Its nice to have a personal challenge to beat your own scores. We definitely recommend purchasing this one! Its worth it!

Sudoku apps are a dime a dozen but the design of this app, and the options, and the themes set this app apart. Im glad to have a sudoku app that is visually pleasing without being over complicated. Cheers!

Thank you so much for developing this app! Clean and beautiful UI. Perfect for our iPad on lazy weekends.
