Community Insight:
We have saw a lots of white squares.
Very imaginative and well-thought out storyline, lovely scenery. We especially liked the desert of forgotten toys, with a giant rubber ducky in the background. Characters are inventive. Puzzles are easy to medium. Hops are quite unique. Even though the puzzles were fairly easy, we still found this game enjoyable. We always like collecting the little flowers in this series, which unlock bonus hops, and there are morphing dolls of the characters to find as well. Game length is longer than average. Bonus story is good as well, elephant really put a lot of effort and creativity into this game.
Long bonus chapter. Loved the concept.
26 May 2019 Great Game! Didnt get all of the flowers for the hidden room but we were happy with everything else. Lol. One of the better games. Thank You.
We are very tied of magical theme games and ancient time games with little story or plot. The game is not one off them. It is modern times game in some type of underworld that look like the back woods of the south after you left a modern city. You fight three bothers playground dice for lives. The people you meet have some good character development. Seems like a lot of this game actually tells a story. What unique idea. Wish more games did that. It is a movie where you interact. Really enjoyable. Hope this company makes more like it.
Elephant Games & Big Fish team up for another great game. Loved the different HOP,s which were a break from typical. Puzzles were challenging but not too overwhelming. Good story, beautiful settings, what you would expect from the developer (Elephant Games), which always seem to be at the forefront of expanding new developments.
Thank you so much BF for this fantastic game. This is the best game youve given us in a long time. The storyline is a little different, which is nice. Also, the graphics are superb, the puzzles diversified and the length of the game nice and long. We loved collecting flowers and the different dolls. Please, keep games like this coming.
We are well into the game and still enjoying it. What not to like? The plot is intriguing as usual, typical to Surface series. Minigames are fun. The teleporting map tells you, if you have picked up all the collectibles: flowers and dolls, so you dont have to waste your time looking for them (the fact, which usually annoys us). The only thing, that Elephants missed this time, is graphics. Used to be crispier.
Good game but the Bonus Chapter was better.
We loved this game! Yes, the storyline was one we have seen many times over, but nevertheless the game was enjoyable. You could customize settings. The graphics were excellent and not every scene looked identical. Collectibles included morphing dolls and flowers, and those flowers were torturous to find; we were shocked to find them all. Finding them unlocks extra HO scenes so to us it wasnt worth it. We were given an actual journal to record storyline progression, and objectives were regularly updated. There was an excellent teleport map to transport you nearly instantaneously between locations, and it indicated whether collectibles were still present in the scene. Inventory was labeled and interactive and there were complex items to assemble. The HO scenes had some variety, and none were extremely unusual but many were actually enjoyable. Some of the puzzles/games were somewhat simplistic and others required brain power; we believe Elephant was just trying to appeal to all players. There was a plethora of tasks to accomplish at each location, and the game flowed smoothly. Elephant has excellent quality assurance. NOTE TO KIMTWILIGHT: There were hotties! Yay! In any event our true rating will be 4.5 stars. We deducted a half star for length; this was a short game inclusive of the bonus adventure. Other than that, we really enjoyed this game! Note to all gamers: our review on the next game out, which is a Mad Head game, will be late. Tomorrow our iPad Air is going in for a new battery, so we wont be able to play for a couple of days. We have never done this before so we are a bit terrified! We cant believe this iPad is 5 years old. Happy gaming to all.
This game had quite a different twist to it from previous ones in this series. However, we found it to be enjoyable, seemed light on hidden object scenes and heavy on puzzles. Voiceovers were good, graphics had lots of special effects – only we found things to be quite blurry at times. Teleporting map and a journal was provided. Collectible flowers to find to release an extra hidden object section. We felt it had some very clever aspects, such as the underwater scene. No glitches were experienced or screen delays. Our only suggestion to the developers is to keep the graphics clear – not blurry (to hard on the eyes) Recommend purchasing & having fun with it. Definitely Worthwhile! KdBoots.
Most of the games in this series focus on an ubiquitous theme of locating a missing person, while integrating dark and gloomy elements with supernatural occurrences; more specifically, this game falls into the category of dark fantasy. The one hiccup, referring to the storyline, is that the purposeful and bustling actions start abating halfway through, although in no way does the storyline become dull to us. The good news is that all of the supporting components, such as the HOSs and the puzzles, are weaved together cohesively to offset the storyline's slight shortfall. The artwork induces a captivating immersion into the environment, with the incorporation of oddball details within outlandish settings. We love the adorable little gremlins Scratches, awwww! Sitting in the basket in the Harbor Master's office. We are highly amused at the plethora of background animations, which add to the quirky ambiance. You can customize your settings. The inventory is labeled and interactive; items require assembly. In custom mode, the teleport map facilitates brisk travel to labeled locations and indicates available actions. The map also indicates the scenes in which you can discover a collectible or flower. We didn't notice any issues with the dialogue, as another reviewer stated. Transition between scenes is smooth and quick; no glitches to report. Lynxie: We got a journal to read the story progression; however, it only conveys the unimportant parts of the backstory. For this reason, the journal is rendered moot. Lots of hotties, though! Lol! Even though the gameplay's level of challenge could have been elevated to make it more satisfying, the creative presentation and execution are appealing enough to maintain our attention. The varied HOSs exhibit clever interactions, with frequent action-driven steps and puzzle-like elements. The puzzles, although mostly simple in nature, are entertaining and suit the storyline. We did have to work a few out a bit, though, such as the constellation puzzle. The collectibles and the tiny flowers are not easy to spot; we could not find some, even with the map guiding us along. Do make sure you collect as many flowers as possible since varying amounts of flowers will unlock additional content; there can be multiples of flowers in each scene, as well as within the close-ups. All-in-all, the diversity of gameplay, the interesting-enough storyline, and the challenging collectibles deem this game, in our opinion, a worthy 4 stars. This game is not as good overall as some of its predecessors; however, we still suggest that you try the free trial.
We play a lot of these games. Never casual, usually advanced. And many where there are no directions to the mini games and you have to figure them out completely. Even with directions, we couldnt figure many of these out. Which is sad because once we saw them solved, we realized it would have been fun to do. We play for the games, not for the hidden object scenes. The game otherwise was fun. On sale, for $2.99,it maybe deserves a 4 star rating. But for its regular price, not the best purchase.
The game is fine. After a day or two it just opens to a blank screen. Let it sit like that for half an hour. Nothing. Tried deleting and reloading. Same thing. Just wish we could actually engage in the game we bought.
Loved the game, but when we got to the bonus game, we got stuck. Clicking the hint took us back to the desert scene inside the house. Hint showed we were then supposed to pick something up from the bag there, but there was nothing there to pick up. Had to call it quits with half the bonus game to go. Went on BigFish forum and saw another person had reported the exact same problem 9 months ago supposed to pick up the lens there, but there was nothing to pick up. Apparently they didnt bother to fix it for the iOs version. Its been a long time since we had to quit a game because of a glitch disappointed, as we were really enjoying the game to that point.
Wanted to buy this. Game demo was pretty good but $6.99 no way! It said it was on sale but wont come up with the sale price.
There are just too too many cut scenes in this game. The puzzles are either too easy or nonsensical. There are no HO puzzles! Im just glad the game was on sale.
Normally the Surface series is awesome however this one doesnt live up to the Surface name. While the storyline appears original, it has several fatal flaws. The dialogue flashes by so quickly you can barely read it and Im a fast reader! Ive missed so much because its gone by so fast. There is a diary but it doesnt cover the holes in the story. Hops are short and childishly simple. Options for custom difficulty are few. Verdict: Buy only on sale and if bored.
Once again, we are completely pessimistic about a game with a high ranking. We were ABSOLUTELY determined to like this game, as the last SURFACE was one we really enjoyed….and we really miss Elephant Games..as they've been our touchstone for all our top games. We began to question it before we even began playing. We saw the basic functions and graphics for the Custom Difficulty Level Options…and instantly knew it wasn't going to be up to par. The quality of graphics of the characters, especially in the first "place the object" lame Mini-Game…was so poor and cartoony…we laughed out loud. Ex: Adding the mans fingers to the picture? Is this really happening Elephant? Q: Are Cardboard Pine Tree Fresheners really that popular in Russia/Eastern Europe? Q: Are all Mini-Games going to be on auto-pilot? (Ex: The Maze: Number 1 choice for all three levels leaves no chance for mistakes, much less any challenges) The HO Games remind us of toddlers plastic toys; large bright "you can't miss" objects that would be difficult NOT to find. And the museum case bolts? We nearly gave in right there…it's so ridiculously simple …it's actually funny. Trying to set joking aside – but even the storyline is laughable. -Goo! This is a PERFECT game for children. But not at ALL for adults, and especially not …ABSOLUTELY NOT for experienced gamers. We doubt we'll write much more even in follow up ..saving our ramblings for games worthy of praise or criticism and extra long reviews. Lol…. San Fran Miss LC.
Two stars because: 1. Overall, the graphics are small. Very difficult to find collectibles – flowers and evil dolls. No symbol on the screen to indicate that there are collectibles to been found. The map only indicates that there are collectibles in a certain location. Our favorite to play is to find collectibles. 2. Refresh rate is 15 seconds. We have played games where the refresh rate is 5 – 20 seconds. 3. Convoluted plot. We dont like fantasy games because the characters are difficult to follow – blue, gold, gray, and others. We only purchased this game because we dont have any new games to play. At least there are no snakes.
The is yet another game with the white lines and overlays. Unplayable.
When we open this game (and other Surface games) the screen shows all the touchscreen hotspots as visible rectangles. No way to work around that.
All sorts of graphic glitches; deleted immediately.
Pretty lame storyline. Not a great game overall. Seems that pretty subpar for Big Fish.
Love the game, but in a hidden object scene and it wont let us pick up item to move on! Stuck and cant play now after purchasing.
