User Reviews on Wunderverse

Looking for more information? Read a comprehensive review of Wunderverse below:

We just discovered Wunderverse. Im new to the world of interactive fiction. We tried a couple other apps, but this one is our favorite so far. Its got so many possibilities and the user interface makes the development to intuitive! We hope it continues to develop.

We wanted this app for a long time. For us, the main appeal is that we can write interactive fiction on our mobile device, a strangely deficient niche in the mobile market. When we finally stumbled upon this app, it was everything we wanted, and as an eager creator we wasted no time subscribing to the pro tools. It’s still head and shoulders above anything else we’ve found. Our one complaint is that it’s so packed with features it’s sometimes a pain to account for the ones you don’t want. Don’t have any use for the player ability to crawl or crouch? You’ll have to write something for those abilities anyway, because you can’t toggle them off. You can rely on the default, generic "nothing happens when you do this" message, but only if it fits your tone. Want to write a story in first person? Get ready to overwrite every single default behavior that’s written in second person. But that and a few other minor quibbles don’t change the fact that this is the best interactive fiction app not enough people are using. It depresses us to see the devs crafting such a superb engine and the relatively small crowd it’s bringing in. This is the framework of a really wonderful mobile experience, and the only thing it’s missing is you. Please have a look. See the potential, and love it like we do. See you in the Wunderverse?

Randomly shuts down at times, refuses to follow some before action commands. The biggest issue is not allowing you to copy and paste nodes/ to remove characters from a mode without deleting them entirely. We honestly feel cheated for buying the pro version. That being said if those issues can be ironed out we could see this becoming an amazing workhorse.

We’ve been using it on both iOS and Mac, and it’s so cool to be able to create your own adventures. The rules system and options are pretty amazing, and the developers keep adding new features all the time. We wish there were more stories, but other than that, we love this app! It’s a great platform for IF.

The new version of WV has taken it to the next level. The interface is easy to master, and the new functionality gives creators endless conditions and outcomes. We grew up playing ZORK and we’ve always wanted to create a text adventure, but Im not a coder. WV has allowed us to quickly create and publish without writing a single line of code!

It was actually getting easy to use as we got the hang of it, it was a great game for us to play as a blind person with voiceover. But now, since you updated it, it’s completely unusable for us! We were actually getting the hang of using it and had a really good game in progress, but now we’ll NEVER be able to finish it unless you can somehow make the app accessible again. Please try at least, we enjoyed making games and want to do it again like everyone else.

Ok, we think the concept is great. We shared this app with many of our friends who grew up with text games and choose your own adventure books. Everything about this app looked great except… Unfortunately we were hoping to read/play a few adventures? Um…. Were just suppose to wait to see if someone shares or work/write our own? Ill keep peeking back in but the cupboards empty???

Wunderverse is a slick collection of tools that makes creating text adventures easy. Theres an early learning curve but we figured out most issues by experimentation and just playing around with the program. We look forward to seeing more adventures by other users. Huge potential for creative expression here!

We wasn’t sure how well a ‘choose your adventure’ would translate to the digital realm, but we have been pleasantly surprised. The interface of the game makes it quite easy to play. We especially like the ability to write our own adventures. We can create a story and share it with our friends. Keep up the good work. We can’t wait to see what additional stories become available.

This delightful text adventure experience immediately brought us back to Zork days. The charming illustrations kick off several genres to choose from, which then takes you directly into a story with a few intro descriptors to get you started. Get stuck? Your progress is saved, then find another story to lose yourself in. But the other half of this was almost more compelling for us, the actual creation tool thats built in, allowing you to dissect how the stories it comes with are built. From characters and game logic to a relational map outlining the connections between major elements. Your then allowed to share your adventure with others as easily as any other iOS app. Well done and looking forward to updates as it progresses!

We get lost for hours creating our own stories! Being able to share with others is a great feature on this platform. We highly recommend to anyone. Great app to express your creativity and imagination!

Wow we were surprised by this app’s toolset. A really fun mechanism for visually seeing your stories in action as you create them, as a game! Instant feedback and gratification :). We can see this being a GREAT teaching tool for creative writing / storytelling (learning and applying story components, building suspense, plot twists, character development etc) utilizing game development as the platform. The app lets you focus on your story and characters, building your game experience for you in manageable pieces. It’s sure to be lot of fun sharing stories—it not only makes for good practice but also a fun way to get feedback—whether you’re a writer, gamer, entertainer. Good to start with the app by checking out the demo stories and spend some time walking through the help tips first to get a sense of the toolset. Then, unleash your imagination and show friends or others in your Wunderverse community what you’ve come up with!

We played D&D and we read those Choose Your Own Adventure books like crazy when we were younger. This app sort brings those two worlds together. We wish they had more stories to play but we guess that just means that Ill have to create our own. Great idea!

This app seems to have nearly all the ingredients for a fantastic interactive fiction platform, and we really hope it catches on like wildfire. However, we’re holding back on 5 stars for now. The manual is pretty bare bones at this point, which doesn’t dissuade us from finding our own way, but others may find this more daunting. The one other thing that we really feel is lacking is community. Now, to a great extent, this is to be expected due to its newness. However, we don’t think the real name/email method of sharing is conducive to building a larger community base. We would really love to see some kind of pen name/account option for sharing stories with the public. TL;DR: if this kind of thing is your thing, and you are comfortable playing with software that still needs a little polish here and there, throw your money at this app.
