Player Experience Highlights
Community Insight:
This puzzle game is our favorite and highly addictive. However, due to Apples Dynamic Island a key component of the game is not fully visible: the stick figure indicating the direction of the players next move.
Theres no way to turn off the sound effects and music. Thats our only complaint. Otherwise, we love this simple, attractive, addicting game.
This game ranks VERY high on our list of games to chill out with. Its great to pass the time while stuck in a waiting room, etc. However, when you inevitably have to put it down, your game isnt saved, and thus progress is lost. You cant come back and finish it later, even if you just leave the app open in the background. If it offered the ability to save progress, it would EASILY be a 5-star game. Unfortunately, this is just too big an oversight to give it more than 2 stars. Ive lost our progress countless times simply because we had to stop to take a call or do something else. So frustrating especially since the game is awesome in every other way.
We have a 13 mini and the game does not display properly on our screen. The top and bottom of the game are cut off. This game hasnt been updated in two years so we dont know if its been abandoned by the developers yet.
This game is fine, but based on the reviews we were expecting something along the lines of device 6, and that is not at all what this is. Unless Im missing something, its just a simple game. Ive gotten to the ball balancing game but that seems to be just as simple and pointless. Ive tried shaking and holding the phone upside down, but nothing happens. The game is fine, but we feel cheated out of a device 6 like story driven game. :(.
Simple rules as design disguise incredible depth and complexity. Bravo.
This game is perfect. We didnt get how the game was great at first, but now, after some days, Im just addict. We understand. We should have give 5 stars.. But we really want something: A LeAdErBoArD we dont know if Im the only one who want this, but its very easy to add, it doesnt take place, and the game will not be less good with it. We love this game but the score is only a personal thing here. We really want to see and compare our scores with others great players in order to give our best to be ranked as high as possible ! Because actually, we dont really know what is our level. Am we good ? Could we do more, way much more ? Could we do 1 hundred or 1 billion more ?? Whatever, a simple masterpiece. For us, Simogo is as great as 1button.
Docking 3 stars because the developer cant figure out how to add a restart button. You literally have to quit the app to restart the game..why is beyond our understanding.
We bought it because someone compared it to device 6. Shouldnt have bothered.
THIS GAME IS TWO YEARS OLD. THE GAMEPLAY HOWEVER IS ARCHAIC. LITERALLY BUYING FECES WOULD BE MORE INTERESTING, AND MORE WORTH IT, THAN BUYING THIS OVERPRICED GAME. We WOULD RATHER BURN THREE DOLLARS THAN SPEND IT ON THIS USELESS, UNINTERESTING APP. THEY SHOULD PAY YOU TO BUY THIS APP. (Or at least make it free). YOU LITERALLY DIVIDE A SQUARE. (we didnt feel like reading the instructions but we doubt there is much more to this app.).
We picked up this game thinking "hey why not it's only one dollar" after playing one round we wasn't too Sure but then on our next round we looked at what our splits could do and we instantly got hooked this game is so fun and we highly recommend it if your willing to shell out a few bucks.
Play the game like a drum or move like a chess master with patient strategy, SPL-T is easy enough for young & old. It has the most valuable quality a game can have: it takes a moment to learn & a lifetime to master. The game board flows like a quick game of Go or Blockus but with nice even precision. It is artistically aesthetic to the Golden Rectangle and all relative mathematical studies, yet a child can play by flicking a finger tip. SPL-T should come standard on every phone like Minesweeper or Solitaire; It's just that cool.
Simple yet challenging – what more could you want from a mobile puzzler? The color changing options are cleverly implemented. No ads or extraneous details. This is a gem of the App Store.
When you pick this game up, it can seem boring at first. You get a few hundred points at first and you're maybe asking yourself "what's the point". But you pick up a few common patterns after a few games, and start playing around, and soon your making a few thousand points. There comes a point where suddenly patterns start turning into strategies, you check out some ideas… And suddenly the game opens up into something amazing and deep. You realize you are fighting to stay on the cusp of creation and destruction as the whole world crumbles around you. The complexity of this struggle is great, and you build a huge chest of tools to carry with you. Now you're making tens of thousands of points, breaking a hundred thousand, getting deeper and deeper. And you find yourself sketching mathematical analyses of fall patterns, looking for that something that unlocks it that you now know, just deeply, intuitively know, is hiding there. This could very well be the mindworm that Device 6 alluded to.
We bought this game a month ago, we love it! It has so many hidden features like if you tap and hold on the title screen (spl-t) you get to balance a ball on a paddle, or if you get bored with the dark colors flip the device upside down. You also can change the color if you shake the device. We're sure that there is more that you can find! Like some other comments we agree that the app is worth more than it is priced at. Don't forget to have fun.
Wish it had Game Center support though.
Warning: Playing too much SPL-T may adversely affect your tmux & i3 sessions. <3.
We can't understand what it is about this game but once you start playing it's impossible to put down. When they say it's a really good game, they aren't lying.
We have not had this much fun with a casual game since we first discovered 2048. Really easy mechanics with huge replay value is a big winner in our book.
It took us a little while to get the hang of this, but now we can't stop. Also, beautiful graphics and sounds.
Just check the how to section of the game to learn how to play. This will only take a couple of minutes but it will provide hours and hours of fun. The only improvement we would like to see is a mute button.
Definitely our new favorite puzzle game.
First off, if you loved Simogo's other hit, Device 6, you will love this game. If you didn't like Device 6, you will still love this game (as long as you have a respect for puzzle games and care more about thought and strategy than mindless tapping). As some other reviews have mention, there's a lot of depth here. And they're right. There are TONS of little hidden secrets. One example of this is if you hold on the "Spl-t" title screen you can play a mini-game where your balancing a ball. There's much more but we think we'll let you figure that out for yourself :) On the surface, this game looks simple. You tap squares alternating the type of line you break. At first glance this game with its simple design, ironically has a lot of rules and looks complicated but once you start to get the hang of it you can't put it down (Also if you shake the device it can change the color if you ever get bored of the normal 'black and white' theme, and if you flip the screen over you can invert the colors). The goal is to get the highest score. Surprisingly, there are TONS of possible strategies to this game, and it's just one of those unique games you can't get enough of. Remember, don't quickly disregard the game because of its early frustrations and huge learning curve. All in all this is an amazing game that is easily worth the $2.99, all it needs it time and it will become your new favorite game. Have Fun :).
This game is fun to play, and it challenges you more and more as you begin to understand it better and develop strategies. Five stars, but if we had a suggestion, we think you should have a pause/restart menu. It'd let players save their progress and would allow them to start over if they know they made a sequence of bad moves that will ultimately lead to a bad score.
This game is great. Lots of depth. But the game need leaderboards and Game Center support. We want to get some friend score wars going on. Also, is there an easier way to restart? Great game. Minimal art and sound in the best way. Worth 2.99. We'd pay 5 for it.
Such an original game. Don't think we've ever played anything like this before. Simplicity at its best in terms of the game itself as well as the sleek interface design. Thanks for developing.
Simogo continues to amaze- each release is so different from the other, while maintaining quality, depth, and uniqueness. These guys are not just cranking out sequels and match three games! Spl-t is a wonderful, addictive puzzler built for simple touch controls. We're at 40k score with 300 splits and we can't stop trying to beat it. Just one more game…. Whether it's Device 6, Year Walk, or now Spl-t, you can't go wrong with a Simogo app.
Elegant, multilayered, sinister, and deep experience. We have been playing for weeks now and the experience and thinking that unfold in SPL-T are amongst the most satisfying and challenging of any puzzle game we've played this year. 5 stars. A possible classic. Ruining our life.
Buy it! And try giving it a shake during gameplay :).
When we first opened this game it was not immediately apparent how great it is. Reading the instructions is fairly necessary though you can figure out the general mechanics without doing so. We've been playing for a few days now and we've already changed our strategy completely several times. There is a lot of hidden depth to this game. Very fun, no time pressure at all. Doesn't look ridiculous in public. Definitely worth a buy. Source: Brought enough apps at this point we shouldn't talk about it. We don't review but this game is 5 stars. (Also math major, maybe that's affecting our score).
Love the game but it doesnt seem to be updated to run on the latest hardware. Hopefully its fixed Soon.
If you want to figure it out by yourself, you should just read this part and then skip the rest of our review: we wouldn't have paid 2.99 for this (personally because we just don't have money) but it was on "sale" so we got it for .99. And it was worth every cent. We think it's cool- the little tricks they put and the game idea itself and stuff. It's very interesting. Alright, for those who need help: This game isn't as complicated as the instructions seem (believe us, we got flabbergasted at first too). Here are some tips: look at the person on the top. He's doing jumping jacks! If his arms are vertical, the next slice will be vertical and vice versa (it's a pattern). If you make a square or rectangle with equal parts, like a two by two or a two by three (we don't think you can do a three by three?), then they're called point boxes and you can't split them anymore. If you make them fall, then they decrease by half. What we mean by that is the number in the box. If you noticed, the number that appears in the new point boxes you make agrees with the number of slices you've made. So if you've made seven slices and you make point boxes, those point boxes require seven moves to get rid of. Unless you make them fall, which brings them down to three moves. When you get rid of some boxes, you get more points and more black space. The trick is to how many point boxes you make, and when and where you make them. Don't try to make super big point boxes- you can't cut them anymore. We recommend cutting some boxes in the bottom half (after your first cut) into point boxes so you can make more point boxes in the top half. That way, the top point boxes will drop, etc. Sorry if this didn't make sense but we're just trying to help >_< cuz there are a lot of reviews down there saying that it's too complicated. Give it a second try, and try to find other fun things :) we're sure you'll like to play it in your free time.
the game…… However there is no way to turn off the sound so we can't listen to music and play.
This puzzler is guaranteed to make you think 10 clicks in advanced. W/ no time constraints and a consistent in game mechanic, anyone can sit down and fully indulge their concentration to solve an infinite amount of possible splits. We believe it's a 5 star game on its first version, and needs an update to fix just a few problems. Our biggest concern is the supply of the new black boxes. In some instances they stop filling in a particular column which we believe to be a coding error. This along w/ other concerns listed in these comments are the cause for our 4 star rating, but please don't be discouraged bc this is our favorite iphone game rn.
Can you add a restart button and can the previous game be reloaded when the app is closed then reopened, thanks.
We love this game, and it is more complex than it looks. However, with one small fix it could be a five-star game. The game should not disappear when there are no more moves, so that users can look at the board and see where they went wrong. Also, the current user's high score should be visible on the game screen, so that the user knows the score they are trying to beat. Small fixes…please.
Hmmmmm. This game is strange, yet interesting. If you're looking for a lot of pizzaz, this game is not for you. If you want a very minimal graphics game with some thinking, then serve yourself up a nice slice of SPL-T pie. For 99 cents it's a good little tidbit. As usual, Simogo AB can't be pigeon-holed.
93 megabytes for an extremely limited graphics game. We know there's secret stuff but seriously? Is there like a hidden movie or something?!! Music? Spyware?! If anyone knows something about why it uses so much space post a review please.
This is a great game. Simple design but not easy to master. Our only complaint is that you can not turn off sounds.
This game is great, but needs an update to fix the crash instantly on launch for the iPhone X. This game could be especially great on the X, with its OLED screen its use hardly any power on the blacks of this game, and those blacks would be so amazingly deep. We really hope this game is updated to fix the constant crashes.
Nice clean graphics & sound, the controls are right on, but was we supposed to score over a thousand points by randomly swiping our finger around? Some instructions would've been nice. Ho hum.
We feel we overpaid a bit with the $2.99 price tag.
The game was alright, but lacks the depth we were looking for. We were hoping for a strategy game that evolved and became better as we played, but this game just isn't it. At a price of 2.99 it just isn't worth the money. We would rate 4.5 if it was .99.
This is basically a puzzle about how to balance between two log2(n) functions represented by gray boxes. They've done a lovely job of intertwining the functions (dividing lines vs drop times), but there is ultimately a single optimal deterministic solution. If you have the patience to figure it out. Or interest.
Trying out different strategies in this solitaire game is interesting, but annoying to learn strategies because of the lack of an undo move ability. Also, the only way to reset the board is to quit and kill the app. Makes it less explorable and more frustrating. Five stars otherwise.
We love this game, it's very modern. There's are no instructions but it took us about 3 mins to figure out . It's worth the price half off but we would never pay full on it.
This game is essentially a math problem, in the sense that there is only one best answer.
Good puzzle game, but it did get old kind of quickly, at least for us. Your experience may vary.
Subtracted two stars for lack of option to restart, and a lack of simple leaderboard support. This is a completely deterministic game. There are no random elements, and therefore it can be "beaten" in the sense that there is one perfect, repeatable way to get the highest possible score. Thus, a leaderboard would just turn into a list of people who have done this in no particular order. Still for those of us who don't have that kind of time, a friends leaderboard would be nice to have for the more casual players.
We like the fact that it's innovative and it's kind of fun to play that is why we gave it three stars. We can't possibly see how you could get really good at it and play a game for more than five minutes. Also once you started a game there's no way to quit it without getting all the possible splits. That is mainly why It lost two stars.
