Dive into Astrologaster

Astrologaster is a story-driven comedy game set in Shakespeare’s London.

London, 1592. A great plague sweeps through the capital. When doctors flee the city in fear, a hero rises. His name is Simon Forman, “Doctor” of Astrology and Physick. Not only does he have the power to cure the sick, he can find their lost pets or even predict their futures, by reading the movements of the stars!

But when the plague ends, Forman’s problems begin. The real doctors return to London and they will stop at nothing to expose Forman as a fraud and bring him down. But Doctor Forman is determined to prove them wrong!

Astrologaster is based on a true – and truly ridiculous – story.

Read The Stars – Guide Forman in casting and interpreting real astrological charts.

Solve Hilarious Problems – Consult on problems ranging from Elizabethan terror plots and foul diseases, to romantic entanglements and stolen pies!

Change Lives – Win your patients’ favor or ruin their lives. Advise 14 characters who return 5-7 times. Patients have their own ongoing stories which often overlap with each other.

Win A Medical License – Convince patients to write letters of recommendations. Collect enough letters to exchange them for a medical license.

Fully Voiced Character Dialogue – Sitcom-style comedy brought to life by a cast of over a dozen actors.

Sing Along – Enjoy Renaissance-era music and sing along to each character’s theme song.

Casebooks Come Alive – Simon Forman’s cases are presented as a beautiful pop-up book. Turn pages to delve deeper into your patients’ stories.

Find out what gamers are saying about Astrologaster:

It is a fun and funny game. Not exactly taxing but a familiarity with British history, chiefly affairs of the aristocracy during the late 16th century, and a passing knowledge of European political and religious mores of those times, will aid in your understanding and enjoyment of the game. In any case, the choices you make for Simon with regards to each character, can be played around with in any way you please, and often we found myself making some rather tongue in cheek, simply for the pleasure of eliciting a shocked or peeved reaction – a testament to how wonderfully crafted the various characters happen to be. The game is very well done and without any glitches. For all that, it may not be to your taste. That said, it is – in its way and for its ilk – a gem.

This is hidden gem on the App Store, an exceptional use of the app form to humorously recreate the life of a 16th century unlicensed doctor. It is, by turns, witty, sophisticated, thoughtful, and poignant, and contains some of the best writing, voice acting, and original music in gaming. While the gameplay itself is underwhelming (mainly picking choices with slight guidance), the story and characters are a delight to play through. A true treasure, and definitely worth your money if you love sly humor, Shakespeariana, or historical fiction.

We accidentally brushed the screen looking at options. No way to undo mistake. You need a confirm selection step. Other way is fun.

Its been a while since a game made us cry. Good work yall.

Oh boy, where to start? First of all, we loved it. If youre a fan of English comedy a la Blackadder, and English history, get it. Essentially, you play as Simon Foreman and have to give astrology readings to 15 different clients, following their stories while attempting to obtain your medical license. We think the price is fair, for what is an extremely original and unique game, with fantastic voice acting and beautiful animations. The story is interesting and you will likely want to replay, to see what you can change. A heads up- this game takes us about an hour to complete, but we’ve already done 2 replays since buying it yesterday.

We just finished completing the game for the third time and have thoroughly enjoyed it each time (although Im now convinced it is impossible to receive a letter of recommendation from Ricardo Ferraro). The amount and quality of effort that went into this production is amazing! We hope this ap inspires others to create in this same format – and, better yet, Astrologaster 2!!!

We played Astrologaster twice in a row. We need more! Money very well spent. For anyone trying to decide: this game is story-driven and similar to a choose-your-own-adventure, but you need to use context clues and intuition to make decisions. The story progresses like a play, with a chorus of singers comically narrating each characters entrance. You move through scenes by swiping to turn the page which makes the backdrop fold in on itself like a pop-up book. You have to decide which star reading to use on each patient to treat them. The voice acting talent is excellent. The visuals are beautifully reminiscent of Elizabethan aesthetics. And the story is scandalous and silly. We finished it immediately wanting to know the other outcomes. We love the true historical elements plus the funny tidbits of gossip and conversation. So well done!

Huzzah for this new game! The lack of interesting fare in the App Store did cause us to involuntarily chunder! Methinks this game is verily most miraculous, innit? Huzzah!

Once again we have been duped by the App Stores game of the day story. $5 is not cheap for a game so we read the reviews, which all said the game is fun and funny. But….. Its not a game at all. More like a choose your own adventure book…. You sit through some singing an funny banter then choose A or B. No way to know if you got it right or wrong, or if there even IS a right or wrong….. After ten or so of these exchanges we cant seem to find the point of the game. We thought something would happen by now….. Lame. Disappointed.

We absolutely loved this game and am glad we came across it on itch. Io. We finished it within hours of downloading it. The concept, story& astrological theme is brilliant. The pop up/3d art is so well done. Well worth the $5 spent. We look forward to seeing more like this in the App Store. Its by far the best game we’ve paid for.

This is one of the most delightful games we’ve ever encountereda marvelous deep dive into Elizabethan England. The dialogue is absolutely hilarious, with great voice acting (the many different British accents are to die for), and a splendid Renaissance soundtrack too, made up of beautiful songs with really funny lyrics about game characters. So much work has gone into this, its amazing… Though of course the most important thing is that its just a blast to playI cant stop laughing! ;)

The game is a lot of fun and funny. Very casual game play and great story line. Graphics are wonderful. We had some initial issues with crashing but the very engaged dev team fixed the, within a few days. Thank you!

Delightful game so far, full of subtle humor, but the astrology is often wrong. Clearly the developers think astrology is a joke, but they could have put a little more effort into the planet details, e.g., Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were unknown in 1592, Jupiter is not exalted in Sagittarius, Mars is not exalted in Scorpio, and Mercury is not exalted in Libra, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

This is an amazing story and app. We initially had trouble with the sound (could not get it to work). It ended up being a problem with soft mute on our iPad. Jennifer S in app support figured this out for us very quickly and we couldnt be happier with her and the developers of this app. Please create more. We will be a lifetime supporter. If you are considering this app, think no more! Buy it, it is amazing fun!

The writing in this game is some of the best you will see in gaming. We expect them to win an award for this. And the highly detailed production of songs and the singers is a marvel. The graphics are suitable for this style of game and it really shows to the strength of quality of writing and characters that the game is engrossing and enjoyable with such minimal graphics. The jokes are funny and intelligent even when disguising dirty jokes :) . And the best surprise is that they incorporated topical social and political commentary as well. Whether you think this game is for you or not, we cant think of any person not finding this game extremely entertaining. Props to the devs for trying something so bizarre and new, and obviously making it all work so verily well.

Really an excellent game. All lines are voiced (well!) And the art is relevant and beautiful. This game has the side effect of teaching you a bit about astrology, if you are interested in that sort of thing. We wholeheartedly recommend this one!

Brilliant writing and storytelling. This doctor was such a quack! We cant believe that people put so much faith in astrology to make decisions but we guess people today still visit mediums and card readers for advice. Only been playing for a few hours so far and cant put it down. Love the pop up story book style and the voice over is a nice touch. Highly recommend this game!!

We pretty much snickered our way through this. So clever, and just a complete pleasure to play!
