A Glimpse into BlitzKeep

BlitzKeep, where pinball meets an RPG! Or maybe where pachinko meets an RPG? Something like that!

“BlitzKeep combines pinball with a dastardly RPG.” – Pocket Gamer
“The visuals in the game look gorgeous.” – It’s New
“My favorite new game release this week.” – App Advice
“I love the freshness of the idea.” – Modern Jamming
“Game of the week.” – Macgasm

Point your hero where you want him to attack, and he won’t stop moving until he’s reached a safe zone or has died! The latter happens far too often… Pick up gear to increase your power, and kill weak enemies first so that you can level up enough to kill the stronger ones. Eventually, you may even become strong enough to kill a massive boss! Don’t be disheartened by frequent deaths – it takes only moments to try again!

The Story

You play as an intrepid hero who is descended from a long line of heroes, and has the blood of the heroes, and is very heroic. Your homeland was taken from you and your kin by the evil Blitz Mage, who used his villainous powers to curse the entire island! The curse says that whoever stands still while in darkness will turn into a monster themselves. Looks like you’ve got no choice but to keep running!

You will travel through 5 kingdoms on your way to The Abyss, the never-ending level. Each kingdom has a king that has been transformed into the most horrible of creatures – a huge boss monster. Beat the boss to move on to the next land.

There are 5 kingdoms to defeat:
Puddland – Home of the Crustacean Commander
Archeologia – Domain of the Granite Gurkhan
Spookane – Realm of the Ectoplasmic Emperor
Amphibia – Land of the Toadlike Tsar
Impopolis – Kingdom of the Malicious Maharaja

There is also the infinite level, The Abyss.

After you’ve finally struggled through all the kingdoms, can you beat your high score? What about your friends’ scores? Compare them on Game Center (more achievements coming with later updates)!

Help

The tutorial should get you started. However, there are a few tips from us to you:

  • The secret to winning is taking your time and killing absolutely every enemy you can.
  • You beat enemies by having a >= POW than them. Your POW is inside your sword in the HUD. If you have less, you die!
  • Enemies that are stronger than you will have a small skull above their heads.
  • You can increase your POW either by picking up items with a "+" (meaning they are better than what you’ve got), or by killing weaker enemies to level up. Each time your sword fills with blue you will level up, and as the Knight this will grant you 3 POW.
  • If you start to run out of time too often, go to the Shop and buy some time upgrades! The first few are very cheap.
  • When you collect gold, you keep it, even if you die or restart!
  • Your score for a level is: totalEXP + totalItemPower * 5 – it’s a direct measure of how strong you are, regardless of the class you selected!
  • Your progress in a level will be used for the next level only if you beat that level with a higher score than the last time you did it.
  • Tap as you hit a wall to boost. You’ll be invincible, will plow through enemies, and will also get a speed bump. Use this to beat enemies that are stronger than you.
  • Swipe while you’re moving to slightly change your direction. You can use this to get yourself out of infinite bounces, or to try to nudge yourself towards things.

We are missing the volume control. The settings only has preferences on how to aim but we could not find anything else. We want music off, sound effects on the moment we start a game. Where are those settings? Otherwise, looks fun.

Great and fun little game. I’d compare it more to a brick breaker game, not really pinball, but it’s still extremely fun.

It’s cool. You swipe your unmoving character and hit bosses by running yourself into them. We like the concept of the game and how it is unique. However, we wish the timer wasn’t there for the levels. Also, it would be great to customize your character. And after playing a bit we couldn’t see a pause button on the levels, but maybe that’s just us. Overall fun, more like pinball-inspired but with RPG and breaking objects(enemies) elements.

It’s like some crazy pinball game with easy to follow rpg elements. It’s also surprisingly addictive too. What a wonderful find The update adds a ton of polish too.

Lots of fun. Original game style. Visually pretty. Great Game.

This is another hidden gem on the AppStore. Can’t stop playing. The timers do limit the fun though.

So flavorful and innovative! What a cool new mechanic! At first we didn’t understand why we were either invincible or dying when we crashed into things. It’s all about the POW! We’re addicted.

At it’s base level, Blitz Keep is a sort of pinball game in which you launch a dude across the screen and see where he goes. Pretty soon it starts to layer on some extra depth borrowed from RPG games though. You must fling your dude over weapons and monsters in order to level him up and eventually face down some rather clever bosses. Not quite a rogue-like, you die often in Blitz Keep and that is part of the design. Restarting is easy and fun, and we loved trying to do a little better on each attempt.

The challenge keeps rising to meet your ability but the game is endlessly forgiving. The gameplay is simple but fast and ridiculously fun. We find myself screaming and laughing out loud. By far our favorite game ever.

This is an excellent game. So much fun. It is so simple to learn and control but has loads of depth and strategy. We highly recommend!

The game has an awesome idea and a fantastic implementation. Some of the level exits are a little too sensitive so you exit too soon. But that may be part of the difficulty. A lot of fun and highly enjoyable.

This game is so much fun now that we know this trick. Press and hold your finger on the screen. It lets you aim your weapon and maps the direction you will take. Once you cleared your path, lift your finger. So much fun. The bosses keep going down!

This is a fun game that is easy to get into, looks great, and sounds great too! We usually don’t play games with the sound on, but the music and hilarious SFX compel us to. Can be played with one hand during commute. Totally worth it. I’d love to see some more levels/interesting powers :) Highly recommended **Edit: The developers added more levels and interesting abilities. They have also given the game another layer of polish. This really top-shelf stuff.

We have been looking for a game that was fun, exciting and imaginative. Blitzkeep is just that. It’s challenging but never overwhelming. We laugh and whoop whenever we play, sometimes to the amusement of those around us. Give it a try, you’ll love it!

Love this game. Really addicting, and we love the music.

The quality of this game is really great compared to all the flappy bird clones and effortless minigames out there.

Nice game. An interesting take on pinball/rpg. Looks and sounds great. Gets a lot harder as you progress. Challenging. Addicting enough to play it all the way through. Worth the $2.99 IMO.

We have a major visual problem with this game: your character isn’t like a pinball or anything, he doesn’t roll. He doesn’t even have a walk cycle. It looks like you’re just throwing around a cardboard cutout, and that really devitalized the game for us. On another note, the time limit on each room is a stupid feature, as it just rushes you along and made us feel like we wasn’t allowed to take our time and enjoy the game. The whole concept of the spots you can stop on isn’t very appealing either, and we would greatly prefer something like Skullduggery where you could change your trajectory during motion, as the current system makes the game feel very disconnected and that you aren’t really controlling your character.

The gameplay is pretty fun and the levels are definitely challenging. We like the unlockables. Our main issue is what a space hog this game is. It takes up so much space on our device and it’s only a five level game. Might be better with future updates hopefully if the developer takes advantage of IOS 9s space saving capabilities.

No way to turn off music/sound drives us crazy. It’s a cute twitch game, but it’s very basic. Improve some things like music control and it’s will be 4 stars.

We like to play games where we have total control of our toon. In this game, we can’t do that. For example, we got stuck in a corner, the room went dark and we died… Lame!! We do like the graphics though but that’s it.

Crash on second boss every time (after defeating).

We spent a ton of time watching ads to gain coins…. A whole lot of time… And then the game crashed on the second level boss every time we try to beat it. We tried everything we could think of but it kept crashing sooo we had to reinstall it…. Lost all our money and can’t even watch ads to get it back… So wasted a lot of time… Lost all the stuff we gained and get to start over hope we can at least get past second boss…. Update: still crashes at second boss….

Fun game that’ll make our commute a lot more exciting. It’s super easy to get into and we got the hang of it quickly. Colorful art, cool effects and plenty of bang for your buck!

This game was great before, but now it looks clean and polished. All of the new functions really add a great layer of depth to the game. We also love the new songs for the last couple of levels.

We were initially disappointed to reach the "end" of the game so quickly, but then we learned that there is so much more to do! The mechanics are easy to learn, but there is still a great depth of gameplay. Can’t wait to play new levels, but until then we will be exploring the abyss :)

Don’t get us wrong it is a really cool game but 5 levels? Luckily it’s a fun game or I’d feel ripped off. There’s also a unfinished aspect to this game. Hopefully the next update adds more levels. This could be an epic game.

We’re loving the new features of this latest update, especially the 18 classes, but the graphics seem a bit off on our iPad Air. The Shop button on the bottom of the screen only shows its top half and the text in the descriptive intro text of each level including high score seems to almost be leaking out of the text bubbles.

This game is simply not fun. The launch indicator is not executed well, the sounds and music are annoying and the overall mechanic the game relies on is just not very fun. The 5 star reviews sound so much like ad copy that we’re fairly certain a majority are paid or planted.

Love it! Simple mechanics but still with so much strategy. Also perfect difficulty level and beautiful art. We’re pleased ^_^
