Question: An expansion seems gone after an update or reinstallation of Catan or after restoring the device?
Answer: Don’t worry, your initial purchase is already saved in your iTunes account. You can restore your InApp purchases by selecting the restore-option in the Catan IAP menu.
Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating or restoring my device. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: When saved games can’t be automatically restored, we’ve integrated a cheat code: In the campaign mode go to select player and enter "CatanWarp*" (* = 1–15) as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button and restart it. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number (1–15). Levels up to the specified number will be unlocked in the custom game mode as well.
Question: Are dice rolls really random?
Answer: Of course! All dice rolls are 100% random and not modified in any way. We’re avid Catan players ourselves. We’ve played the iOS version hundreds of times while developing the program. There have been times when we won and lost a few games in a row because of the dice – just like when playing the board game!

We’ve had this app for years, but recently the game will completely close down during the game.
We often go through a game where no one trades with us.
This gets 5 stars because it is as fun as the real game. It could still be better. You should not have to pick new robot players so often. You should be able to actually name them, especially yourself. We does give the option, but doesnt seem to work. These are little nits, but the game is wonderful.
Whoever developed this game your karma is going to be really bad. This game cheats in about 6 different ways, makes it hard to enjoy playing. Save your money!!!!!
Like said in earlier reviews, the bots don’t trade with you(most of the time) even if you give them a ridiculously good offer. The sound FX are fun and graphics are like the game board. Very good overall!
We have been playing Catan HD for years. But now it keeps crashing. Im grateful the game is saved. But so annoying! Whats happening? Love this game. Please stop the crashing. We play on iPad Pro.
This is by far the most under-friendly interface for the game. Simple. Clear. Intuitive.
For someone who doesnt get to play the game with our family very often, we really like it! We think the developers have done a good job in making it as realistic as possible.
Cant help myself…… Playing this game is contagious…. Actually addicting….. We dont understand the other reviews about it being glitchy…… We have played it on our iPad Pro(1st generation) for over two years and never had a problem. Love the game and have always loved it when it first came out in an analog version….
Works well, never crashes on our iPad, at the expert level you will lose enough to make it challenging.
We dont agree with the previous complaints about the dice being stacked. Perhaps its a dissatisfaction with losing. Like any games that combine strategy, odds, and luck things dont always go as expected. Im betting the algorithm is based on actual dice odds. If the dice always fall as expected that would be boring. The challenge is adjusting your strategy.
App needs reboots mid game, but we love this game and it is well worth it. And Cities And Knights is an amazing expansion.
Great game, but some pretty bad glitches. Sometimes we cannot see any of our progress cards… Only experience these problems in cities and knights + online games.
The game is a classic, and the App does it justice. Play and enjoy. Picky bits from other reviewers, probably they are always like that. Improvement? Some A.I. Type opponents that play and adjust.

We have loved this game since we first started playing the physical board game version shortly after it came out. The bots are a reasonable challenge, with a satisfying win ratio. They do a couple of stupid things (like blocking two tracks of connecting road, when only one block is needed.) Their programming is a bit too predictable sometimes: they wont trade with the human on the humans turn once the human gets over 6 points, no matter how good the deal. They will prefer to steal from other bots with similar point levels until the human gets over 6 points, and then will prefer to steal from the human. Things like that. Nevertheless, the bots are a reasonable challenge, and the dice arent obviously loaded (they just seem that way!) Main issue: the app keeps crashing ever since we upgraded to an iPad 10th Gen from our very old iPad. Annoying to have to keep restarting. Looking for a bug fix! We have updated to the newest version on both the iOS and the Catan HD software.
And we will continue to play it. We only play solo against 3 cpu-players, as that gives us the flexibility to pause the games for hours or days. The feature we would like added: To be able zoom out, position the playing area, and the Lock the screen, so that we do not have to keep re-adjusting the zoom and position. Glitches: None of the cpu-players, play the Commercial Harbor card. The cpu-players do not seem able to displace the pirate when using a knight. Occasionally the treasure chest icon remains on the screen, blocking the view of a card being played by one of the other players. It would be nice if the right-side action menu did not have the cards icon (since the cards can be accessed via the bottom menu) and then shorten the side menu so it does not block the two right corner player’s card-count of city speciality. When ever a sub-menu does not fully show, we ‘toss’ the app away, and restart the game, continuing the same game. So far we have not had a game totally crash beyond being able to keep playing.

There are way too many glitches to list but it still is a great game. We were relieved they caught up to IOS 14.
Love the game but on iOS 16 the game constantly bails out and makes us restart the app over again. Never used to happen but now it can happen three or more times in a game. Very frustrating.
Love to win one game every day! Cant get support to open up more screens though.
First off, we love the Catan board game. It is a blast to play. This one, while it is still fun, does have some issues. First, there is a glitch with the campaign, and every time we start the first level, it closes out the app. Next, we do believe the game would be more fun if the odds werent stacked completely against you. Even them out a little, so that the robber doesnt target YOU only. Let the other players steal resources from each other. Now, you arent always the AI’s target, but once you take the lead, its a run for your money. You have to practically spend your cards just as fast as you get them because the AI will take them away on the next turn. Nonetheless, Catan is a fantastic game of strategy and economics, but if you REALLY want to play a good game, get the board game.
Great game, but the campaign stops at 16. We’ve won that level many times and it still wont progress to the next.
We’ve been playing Catan on this app (never online) for 5+ years. We’ve got all the expansions (islands, cities and knights) and variations (dragons) too. The dice seems to be loaded against us but IMHO thats our implicit bias not the dice. We win most of the time. We do wish this was a true AI where the characters would Machine Learn to make it more challenging over time. As is, the characters are often not seeing the big picture and are not strategic. So its easy to win.
Catan is a fun game that is nice if you are on a flight. You can play on airplane mode. More, and varied maps, would be nice.
This is a good game, very addictive. We sometimes question the dice rolling algorithm as the same numbers seem to come up multiple times in one game. It also has started to crash frequently under iOS 16.1.1.
Please add tabs when inviting buddies like Online, Offline, Playing (Not Available) so that we dont need to search all pages to find who is online Also progress cards are not visible suddenly in the middle of game. Please fix this Thanks.
We love the game, but there are several things that drive us crazy! First off, the app is glitchy (Im on an iPad) and it may crash several times during a game. You can get back in, but the last roll may not take and itll roll again. Sometimes it crashes when a trade is offered. And itll do it over and over and over like its in a loop. We play against the computer – we rarely play other players online. Another area we dont like is that the AI just isnt that good. We have it on the hardest setting and the computer will put a road segment into a dead end where it cant go any further, cant build and isnt blocking another player from doing something – its just a stupid play. The computer will also offer a trade – nobody accepts it, so it trades in resources, gets what it needs and wins the game. In that scenario, dont offer the trade with other players, just trade it in and win the game. Im nit picking with the issues with the AI, but the crashes are a real issue. We reached out on Facebook to the support team and was told they were working with Apple on the issue. That was several months ago. We expect better support for an app you have to pay for.

As soon as we upgraded to iOS 16.2 the app would suddenly crash during game play. Restart the game. It can continue from same basic spot but sometimes crashes again.
So thankful you fixed the iOS 14 compatibility problem. Some day we hope you can fix the problem where after the game runs for a while the pop up boxes lose their background. Save and exit and then restart is the work-around. Thanks for a great way to burn time in our nothing box.
We loved to play the board game version and now have it on our phone and iPad. This is a fun challenging game alone or with friends good times.
Gameplay is fun against the AI, but after enough play, messages are invisible. Been that way for years with no fix.
Yes, we agree with those who comment that the game gets to a certain point, then things start to disappear. If you shut it down and restart all things are back to normal. But, for a paid app… It shouldnt be doing this… Not after 3 years worth of this negative feedback. (I say 3 years because the first comment that rates this mentions the same issue… From 3 years ago). Overall, its great to be able to play this game in a digital format. Just needs some tweaks.
We love this game, but the app is a piece of crap. Its bloated, takes up too much space, and crashes constantly. Im really hoping one day theyll fix it. Like we said, we love playing it, but we hate the way it crashes constantly.
Catan on the iPad is fun, addicting, and smooth. The only reason we didnt rate it five stars is that the AI continually moves the robber to one of our spaces. We understand it if Im in the lead, but its like the AI interprets greater difficult with persistently moving the robber in our direction, regardless of how many or few victory points we have.
Elegant in its simplistic, intuitive design, Catan online has been a fun way to connect with friends and family during the COVID-19 pandemic quarantines. For one game, we played with our cousins in Florida, Hawaii and Illinois. We also did a 4-way call so we could talk while we played. We wish there was a way to talk in the app like that tho. We also bought the expansion pack, thinking it allowed 6 players instead of just four. Sadly, it doesn’t. Lastly, regularly playing the computer players has helped us improve our skills for playing the online and board game. Love it!
Been playing for years. Love the solo game play, great way to unwind and let your mind wander. Crashes several times per game, although restarts in a good state each time. Just annoying.
The game has some serious glitches that break the game. For example, having development cards and menu items turn invisible mid-game makes it incredibly frustrating to play the game. Please, developers, show the app some love and give it an update. And please don’t try and phase everyone over to your other catan app because that game board layout is trash.
It has a decent format but it has been crashing for about the last 5 months. We even tried to delete and reinstall but that did not fix it.
We love the game, especially when playing against live people. Seems fair. Not so when playing against computer.
Hi, Im Shawn, and we are a Cataniac. Im addicted. Its actually not a problem at all we love being addicted to catan! But this game has glitches, like we cant see our progress cards after a certain point so Im playing blind. But since we love the game that makes it more challenging, but if Im losing, watch out, glitch rage Cataniac syndrome commence. We also wish we could have the option of trading progress cards for resources and commodities (per our house rules) we wish we didnt have to wait for everyone to choose their resource or their progress card, why cant we all do it at once? Tis 2022 after all.
We love Catan! Our family loves Catan! Cities and knights! This is a great way to play when traveling or you dont want to set up the board. Theyre not supporting this app like they are Catan Universe but we think this is a solid platform for them to keep up! We wish online allowed for 6 players.
We love playing, but it is so glitchy. We stopped playing for a couple,e years and the same glitches are there and some new ones too. Not being able to see cards or other things has been around a while, but the game shutting down whenever we try to buy a knight is new.
The game is so fun & we love all the different boards, but it does crash a lot, a few times a game, it saves the game so its not a big deal, its just slightly annoying. Excited to try an online game with friends!
Whenever we try to build a ship, our screen freezes, but overall, we think its a good game.
Try closing out all other apps. We quit playing for awhile because of crashes. Then tried again and no crashes for a few games. Then today, crashed again but we had another app open. Ready to delete but thought we would try it again with no other apps opened. And no crashes when this app was the only one opened.
