Description

For centuries, philosophers and mathematicians have gazed up at the night sky and wondered:

"Is there Golf On Mars?"

The year is 2866. Mars is 35% terraformed, finally enough to allow the playing of the game of.. Golf!

Golf across an infinite* rocky Martian surface. Discover golfing obstacles that make us Earthlings gasp in awe!

*Infinity is impossible to represent on any non-quantum computer. In actuality there are roughly 25,770,000,000 golf holes in this game.

In 2020, NASA will launch the Perseverance rover to search for life and golf on Mars. The journey there will take 200 days,
If you were to play one hole of Golf On Mars every 30 seconds during that journey, you would only be able to complete 0.002% of the game (576000 holes).

If you were a paleolithic hunter-gatherer gazing up at the Red planet one night during your traversal of the ice bridge connecting Russia to Alaska
at the last glacial maximum 24515 years ago and a time traveler brought an iPhone for you and your tribe to ritually play a hole of Golf On Mars every 30 seconds,
it would take until the present day to complete all the holes.

But this is not a realistic simulation.

For example, if the ball is 16 pixels wide on your screen then the typical hole will be 1200 pixels away.
Scaling this to the size of a real ball (1.68 inches), it’s as if the hole is only 3.5 yards away!

A realistic 18 hole golf course where the fairways are 3.5 yards away would only require about 1300 square feet of land.
However, gravity on Mars is 38% that of Earth’s gravity, so you could hit a ball 7 times farther, or roughly 1400 yards for a good player.
This 18 hole course then needs to be to 64000 square feet. You could cover the entire surface of Mars with 241 billion of these golf courses.

Therefore, you could easily fit all the holes in Golf On Mars on the surface of Mars.

Mars is par 3, so aim to finish in under 77 billion strokes.

Updated on 30th June 2020

Fix for ball getting stuck under boulders.
Fix for clouds mysteriously growing in size.

Golf On Mars Reviews

Game is awesome all around. Truly great design. Really dig this game and its crazy how dang addictive it is! Cant praise enough.

Don’t listen to people when they call this game zen-like. This game is for masochists. We love it so much.

We love Desert Golf and Golf on Mars, but we wish more than anything the developer would add GameCenter support for achievements and leaderboards of all kinds. Im already addicted, would love to be more addicted. We were gonna make this 4 stars and withhold the last, but thats not fairso we consider this game a 4.99/5. Youll get the last .01 from us when you add achievements!

We love the game very much, simple to play, very zen and super clean (no ads or junks). If possible, could you adjust the intensity of the red color to be a little less red? Our eyes are not so comfortable after playing the game for a while. (Maybe give an option for the user to adjust it?) Thank You.

An excellent diversion for non-gamers who sometimes like playing a game. (That would be us!) No in-app purchases. No in-app ads. No leveling-upthe game starts easy and automatically adjusts as you get better. The graphics are basic but the most important piece, how the ball bounces and rolls… Perfect!

In 700 holes so far we’ve found 3 impossible ones that you need to use the skip option that appears after 25 shots on one hole. Its kind of frustrating, but other than that very good game.

We have tried meditation and focusing on our breathing, but our mind wont stop thinking about too many things. This app has gotten us to stop our erratic attention and just focus on getting the ball to fall into the next hole. We are a clearer and more focused thinker after we have played for 15 minutes, or 3 hours…. Thanks.

A nice little game for those who like things to be part puzzle and part video game… Of course, "mostly" because golf is one of those games that can occassionaly make you crazy. The author has done a great job making a game that is filled with interesting little surprises as the game goes on. It is an endless game where the difficulty level ebbs and flows. It isn’t a game where it doesn’t get increasingly difficult such that it becomes impossible. Just a nice back-and-forth in challenges.

We’ve really been enjoying this game, very relaxing with some intermittent challenges. We do have a few suggestions for future updates -I prefer to play with the score hidden, sometimes with the sound muted. It would be nice if these settings remained off when we come back to the app later. -IDK if this is possible but it would be nice to be able to pull up some kind of stats, like home in one percentage, furthest distance to hit the ball into a hole from, average strokes per hole etc… Overall we love this game and will continue to play even if these updates never happen. Great job yall.

We decided to get this game for a couple reasons. 1. The bio was witty and funny 2. It looked like it wouldnt kill our battery and 3. It looked fun and a good way to pass the time. And boy we were right on This game is so fun to play, and its so relaxing too. When you turn off the Putt counter , relaxation 100. And we can spend 60 minutes just hitting balls into holes on the red landscape. And for that 60 minutes, it barely takes of like 1%! However to address those toxic and skeptical people, there are some difficult levels. But those are what make the game fun. Its not all easy levels. Some you actually have to be good. And yes there are some that are not possible. But we have found around 4 of those and we are on level 2921 as of this moment. And yes you have to take 25 strokes but is that really a big deal? Its not. And yes sometimes it will pop out on a perfect put, but its okay, this is t a multiplayer game so why does it matter? Take an extra put to put it in. So in reality, we want to say this game is definitely worth your 3 bucks. 5 starts.

We played Desert Golfing to death. We beat it numerous times only to subsequently delete it and play again because of our infinite enjoyment with the game. This version is the same as desert golfing with a few adjustments. Gravity is mildly less, you can now place spin on the ball, the ball rolls further even win spin is not applied, and you can change the intensity of the shot based on how long you hold down the aiming arrow. Let us take a moment to explain the last characteristic as it was driving us crazy on multiple holes that seemed impossible to beat. If you apply max power to a shot by carefully taking your time and aiming, you will not get max power. If you quickly apply max power and release almost immediately after the arrow appears, you will get a power boost. This is evident if you carefully look at the tip of the arrow when you max out the intensity of the power. You will notice that the length of the arrow shortens at the tip if you hold down the aiming for more than a fraction of a second.

This game is everything a mobile game should be: mindless, relaxing, 100% interruptible, and endless (i think. Im on hole number 4536 at time of writing and id be shocked if these were all made by hand, so im assuming theyre procedurally generated).

  1. Theres absolutely no menu of any kind so in order to restart you have to delete the app and reinstall it 2. Piss poor concept of gravity versus friction. (The golf ball does not always roll down the hill sometimes it will just sit there on a steep incline.

9000 holes played, somehow just never gets old. May be the greatest toilet game ever conceived.

Just when our muscle memory has been instilled by Desert Golfing, we find myself on Mars starting from scratch because the physics are all wacked out. Please keep em coming. The Moon offers new possibilities with low low gravity making the ball take forever to drop back if you hit it to steep and hard. Craters. Lots and lots of craters. And maybe the occasional asteroid strike. What else? Indoor golfing (side scrolling through an endless house), golfing in traffic (perhaps having to punch through windshields to get from hole to hole). Golfing on planet Jello. We promise to buy and play anything you might dream up. This cant possibly get old.

Played through the original several times, and this one just as addicting. Played through the first 200 holes, and nothing impossible so far , so we suspect that issue has been fixed. But, yeah, some holes are going to take 10-15 strokes, at least if youre an inter-planetary duffer like us. Dont forget to use a second finger to swipe up or down to add top or back spin to your shot.

This magnificent game proves, with deep profundity, the truth every soul has known deep within our hearts; that there is, without any doubt golf on mars. We have seen our balls soar into the cyan sky, trailing mist through feathery clouds. We have seen our balls descend deep into the planets crust emerging moments later shiny and new. We have deftly back-spun our balls into the most deeply satisfying hole in ones. We are one with mars. We are one with golf. We are one with our balls through these eternal red sands.

We rally like this game for killing time. Doesnt require too much concentration, just simple physics. The fun never endsIm on hole 4600. We really wish it showed an overall average strokes per hole.

Thanks a bunch for this game. Its so simple and fun. We enjoy turning off the score and playing without caring about our performance or how many strokes we take.

What a successor to Desert Golfing! The infinite mode knocks out the minor issue we had with the original game. Hope the developers update the previous game with that. The Mars gravity is fun to deal with. Enjoy!

Its a good game like the other reviews are saying, but it desperately needs a resolve button. Something to make the ball immediately move to the place where it would fall or roll. Too many times the ball lands just too close to an edge and we’ve got to watch it roll slooooowwwly down like five hills. Itd be nice to be able to skip those kinds of situations.

Nobody else is talking about this? Im not a hole skipper, and we’ve done all the holes fair and square… Until 331. Is this possible to do? Has anyone done it? It was our first, and hopeful last, time using skip.

We enjoy playing this very much. However, the stroke count becomes meaningless when you have an impossible hole and have to try 25 strokes before you are allowed to skip. So we give 4 stars. Would you consider a reset button so we dont have to delete and reload the app?

Sublime. Nearly perfect except for the occasional impossible hole. Im guessing its a bug in the random terrain generator function? Or the tolerances drift a little. Anyhoo, its a fun game. We’ve played and deleted just about every golf game in existence but this one has persistence (as does its predecessor). Give it a shot.

This game is an excellent twist on Desert Golfing. 90% of the time its basically the perfect podcast game Unfortunately the number of impossible levels tends to be annoying, especially since you must make 25 shots before being offered the [skip] option. At the very least you should be able to skip from the menu with a 25+ shot penalty. Its annoying to be stuck on a level thats clearly not doable, and to have to slowly take shots until you can skip.

Up to 3400. Okay time waster but whatever algorithm is used doesnt change after 200 or so. Pretty lame.

Downright amazing for people who grew up during the polygon era, but you absolutely have to defy gravity on holes like 719 or take 25 strokes as a penalty. You should be able to skip immediately and take the penalty rather than waste time taking 25 sometimes agonizingly slow shots. Whats the impact if the game has so many holes to play through? Please update with an instant skip. Id take 50 strokes penalty for that.

This is a great game that has provided hours of entertainment (im past hole 10,000). But sometimes theres an impossible hole that just cant be done, and that ruins the experience. We still recommend it butI really wish the dev would find a way to fix this. Clearly other people are annoyed by this too.

It’s a good game, with enough new techniques to make it worth a buy. We’ll warn you ahead of time that some of the holes will have you scratching your head in frustration. Like others have commented before, the impossible holes make this game less than appealing.

Zoom out and high score resets after game restarts. Please fix.

We like this game, we really do. Its a good, simple game to occupy yourself with while listening to music or podcasts. However, a few aspects can spoil the zen mood this game seems to be going for. Namely, the impossible holes. Every so often you come across an insurmountable wall, and the only option to move forward is to hit the ball 25 times and skip the hole. This is frustrating and happens every ~25 holes or so. In addition, we encountered a glitch after hitting the ball into a pit, and the camera got stuck at the bottom. No amount of restarting the app could fix this, and we had to reinstall, which sent us back to the beginning of the game. In conclusion, this game is fun, but the terrain needs work, and there are occasional glitches that can be frustrating.

Pretty sure theres no way to sink this one. And even if you could violate the laws of physics and somehow do it, theres no chance of making the next one (#180). What gives? Is this a bug?

Must downgrade due to holes that are impossible to play. The holes had no openings to advance the ball. Have encountered 2 holes after 250+ like this. Skip is allowed after 25 strokes which is added to score. Desert Golf does not have this bug. Love the concept of both games and appreciate the challenge of making the perfect shot but game algorithm should allow an opening for that perfect shot. Maybe the game makers are proving a (true) point… Some things will be impossible on another planet lol. But for a game it simply adds frustration and makes playing less enjoyable. Hope this is solved with update.

Get the original. There are a number of literally impossible holes as well as others that become so with game play. (Rocks that move and block the hole.) Further, the holes are often off the screen and only become visible with movement of the ball to the right. A sometimes frustrating follow up to the brilliant original.

We are on hole 13 and our ball fell into an opening less than 1/4 inch wide and fairly deep. We’ve tried too many times to escape and cant. Force quit and it helpfully remembered our progress. We cant figure out how to play anymore.

We completed and loved desert golf, and was very excited to see a follow up on the App Store. However, the new additions introduce a lot of game breaking issues that makes Golf on Mars inferior to the original and, at times, unplayable. On multiple occasions there are levels that cannot be completed due to terrain that is too high or obstacles in the way. This requires just waiting around for the 25 shot cap to be reached in order to skip the level and move on. The last hole we played before deleting the game altogether saw a rock fall on top of the hole, us burning 25 shots to reset the level, and the game screen filling up with gray with no option or score counter. We really loved Desert Golf, and we really liked the addition of spin and newer terrain to Golf on Mars, but the game is too buggy and too incomplete to recommend.

Meh. Good for a little while. Bugged us that there is really no competitive element unless you create it yourself by tracking your averages. But the impossible holes. Why no skip available until you take 25 strokes? Often one impossible hole means the next is also impossible and maybe the next. So 75 wasted strokes just because the dev is lazy? Delete!

Was fun for a while, and then we reached a point where the game was unplayable. There is no user interface for restarting the game, so it kind of feels like we wasted $2.99 buying it. If it had been free we would have rated it well for the time we were enjoying before the game became unplayable and impossible to restart.

Was ready to throw our phone at the wall by the 3rd hole.

Any golf game where you get holes that literally cant be done seems like it was developed and published too fast. Please solve this problem. Even allowing a skip at any time might convince us to install again.

We love this dev and their games. Desert Golfing was a favorite of ours for years. At first Golf On Mars seemed like the ideal sequel, more mechanically sophisticated and just as oddly compelling. But then around our 40th hole we hit our first impossible hole. Had to putt the ball around till 25 strokes and then skip the hole. Then… Again, around hole 100, another impossible one. OK… Didn’t bug us much, kinda amused us. Skip. And then another… And another. What? We’ve probably come across at least close to a dozen now. What’s even more infuriating, some impossible holes are impossible to get OUT of. So it’s 50 strokes to get past them. Miserable. It’s not that it spoils the fun of trying to keep a low stroke count even. It’s that smacking the ball around till you can skip (at 25 strokes), especially having to do this again and again after coming across these impossible holes, feels totally miserable. We don’t want to play this game anymore. Desert Golfing always felt great to play. Gold On Mars makes us anxious we’ll run into another impossible hole at any time. Why should we play it then? It’s enough to kill the fun for us.

Every other hole or so you cant hit the ball any more. The only way we’ve found to fix it is to delete the app and start from scratch.

With most games, the better you get, the easier it becomes. This stupid game throws in holes every once in a while that are physically impossible based on the limitations of the game where the only option is to spend 26 strokes trying to make it before it finally lets you skip that hole. And if you’re good enough to make a perfect shot land directly in the hole, don’t get excited – it WILL bounce out. The physics of the game are also stacked against you – if the ball is going up a hill away from the hole and reaches a stop, it won’t return back down the hill towards the hole when it’s in your favor. HOWEVER, if the ball is rolling up a hill TOWARDS the hole and reaches a stop, it will immediately pivot backwards and pick up momentum in the opposite direction to roll as far from the hole as possible. We’re 170 levels in, and this has proven to be true on dozens of holes with the same grade of steepness on hills.

Inconsistent ball interaction.

Im waiting to see a Tesla pass by in the sky! Ya gotta love Elon Musk.

A friend of ours, a Paleolithic hunter-gatherer, called us up on her iPhone to say she found the last hole to be much more satisfying than the ending of Lost. We find that hard to believe, but will take her word for it.

After a few hundred holes, the game went full-screen orange making it completely unplayable. Until then, it was loads of fun, but we had to delete the game and start over. Annoying.
