A Glimpse into Hashi

Hashi (also know as Hashiwokakero and Bridges) is an addictive, relaxing and engaging logic puzzle.

A summary of the rules appears below:

  1. Construct bridges between islands such that each island has the proper number of bridges attached to it.
  2. Bridges can placed in a horizontal or vertical orientation and may not overlap.
  3. You can have at most two bridges directly connecting one island to another.
  4. The network of bridges must connect each island to every other island. In other words,
if you pick any island in the puzzle you should be able to "walk" from it to any other island by travelling
    over the bridges.

It couldn’t be much simpler than that. And yet, hidden behind these simplistic rules you’ll find some devilishly challenging puzzles. Or, if casual puzzling is more your speed, the small puzzles will nicely satisfy your cravings without tying your brain in knots.

Speaking of brains, Hashi includes a Daily Challenge to keep you mentally sharp. The Daily Challenge tracks your best score over different time periods allowing you to compete against a very worthy adversary: yourself.

We hope you enjoy Hashi. If you have suggestions on how we can improve Hashi, or any of our other products, feel free to contact using the Hashi Support link below.

Easy to navigate. And the puzzles are outstanding. You have a bank of coins to play and need to use a slot machine to get more. Can’t cheat on this one… There is no way to check you are wrong.

Nice version. We’ve tried em all. We DONT like swiping so thanx! But… WHAT ARE THE COINS FOR?

As a rule, we don’t really like games on a computer or phone but this is fun, light and non-frustrating. We quite enjoy playing this.

Every other hashi on iOS eventually gives you puzzles that require trial and error to solve (as opposed to applying logic to current state to determine next step). We like the daily challenge to solve 3 small puzzles as quickly as we can and the fact that there are multiple puzzle sizes to choose from.

Love this game, we can’t put it down. However, the whole coin thing is annoying. We don’t understand the point of it and we hate having to pull the slots after every puzzle. It doesn’t make sense with the game.

This is the best version of Hashi we have tried. The black and white visuals are elegant and play is easy. We look forward to the daily challenge.

Amazingly simple app but delivers on all accounts. Easy to use and easy to enjoy!

Excellent app and great for mindless play. Puzzles are somewhat easy but sometimes that’s what we like. Interface is brilliant and quick once you get the hang of it. Don’t understand the coins yet but we haven’t needed them. We’re keeping this one!

These puzzles are fun if you just want to take your mind somewhere else & play… They aren’t enough of a challenge to really exercise your brain.

The puzzles aren’t too difficult, but not dead simple, and they don’t take very long – almost always between 20 and 50 seconds – but that’s a good thing if you’re looking for a quick diversion.

Nice design. Fun game. Cannot access harder levels on the iPhone but you can on the iPad. I’d give it five stars if the iPhone interface were fixed and if there were an option to purchase the removal of the coins and slot machine for unlimited play.

After doing one puzzle, we could solve any new one in less than a minute. The interface is also a pain. We would have liked to be able to just swipe a line to create it instead of tapping until we get the right one.

This game has potential to be outstanding. But… It is impossible to play for any length of time without buying more coins. :( It doesn’t always recognize taps.

Stupid system of coins. One game cost 3 coins, but to earn coins in this game impossible. There are 2 ways: play daily games to earn 3 coins only, the other one – to buy coins. That’s all. And the game you can finish in 1 minute. This is stupid.

This game used to be great, but now only 1 star review because it hasnt been updated in quite awhile, so it doesnt open in even iOS 11, and we havent updated to iOS 12, quite yet.

What an absolutely awful game. First of all, it’s poorly designed. It’s very difficult to connect two numbers together, which makes for a very unpleasant and frustrating experience for the user. Secondly, the puzzles themselves are garbage. They are so easy a five year old could solve them in seconds. The puzzles are probably generated using a really dumb algorithm, so it doesn’t incorporate any of the nuances of difficulty of real Hashi. Finally, what’s up with the coin system? It seems like it was tacked on as an afterthought – another element of poor game design. This app isn’t even worth the zero dollars we paid for it. The designers should pay YOU to play their awful horrible interpretation of Hashi. If we could, we would give this app a negative star rating.

We loved the game but can no longer play it because it is not iOS 11 compatible.

Terrible interface with touch screen. You have to touch the screen several times for it to recognize the command. Our phone works fine.

As soon as we updated, it just gives us option to resume and will not go to a new board. Love the game. It just needs tweaking.

For the past few days we’ve been playing the daily challenges, but the coin wheel is messing up. Once we pull the lever to receive our coins the app closed out. Bug maybe? Other then that it’s a great game and we love it.

This is a fun, quick game that gives you a challenge.

Great game!! We love the challenge!

We love the game but there’s no way to ever fully "buy" the game. You can get tokens to play more only. We’re not going to spend $10 & still not own the game. The game is super fun & addicting but when we buy a game we want to own it not rent.

Used to be great app, now it’s too expensive to play, have to go with other similar hashi games.

This app used to be great, but this coin system thing is just stupid. Don’t bother with the app unless they change it back. We plan on getting another.

It’s really fun! You won’t regret getting it!!

When we get migraine headaches we can’t focus on some of our more difficult games, but Hashi is soothing to play. We agree that it does get too easy once you’ve played for awhile. We think possibly the option of bigger boards, even if you have to pinch and zoom in & out, could create more challenging levels. Over-all a great game when you just want to "zone out" or need to kill some time!

At some point the puzzles become too easy and boring. But it’s a nice mindless game to play.

We’re happy to see Hashiwokakero on the Ipad, but we agree with the other review- the puzzles appear to be computer generated. The biggest gripe we have is that, while the puzzles are solvable, the large ones appear to require guessing and trial and error.

The biggest problem with this app is that the games are computer generated and don’t have unique solutions. We like other apps that let us swipe to draw a bridge where this expects a tap between islands.

I’d put it in the same category as sudoku. Great puzzles at all levels. The daily challenge is a great bonus too.

This is a lot of fun. Our son had these for a school assignment and now we play them for fun.

It’s easy to pick up and it’s a good mental challenge. We bet it would be helpful for someone doing chemistry.

There is a version for Linux called Bridges that is much better. Issues: – Clunky, glitchy, and unresponsive user interface – Often more than one possible solution per level – Some levels are nearly impossible without guessing – Needs to be updated for Retina display – There should either be no shadows or they should be at an angle, not straight down If this was an original game, we would rate it higher. It is, however, a poor copy of a great game. The Linux version is open source – why not lift the level creation algorithm from that one?
