Journey Reviews

All we have to say is it was beautiful and the end left us in tears.

It is beautiful! Well crafted and so intuitive, no instructions are needed. We have a PS 4 and paired one of the controllers to our iPad Pro. That made it a bit easier to play; not that it was hard without it, but it made it much better play-wise as we could spend more time admiring the scenery and less time concentrating on the mechanics. It is one of the most intriguing and absorbing games we have ever played on our iPad. We only gave it 5 stars, because there arent any more to give. We are hopeful these people will release more games!

Yes, we absolutely love this game, a five starts from us, but, it lacks the multiplayer functionality that the Playstation version possessed. We liked how you could help each other never knowing who the people you were helping/was helping you were until the end. Other than that, excellent game.

Its beautifully made but we definitely would not have spent $5 on the game if we knew it would take us 3 hours to finish it.

This game is and will always remain one of our favorite games.

This has by far exceeded our expectations. We wanted something casual and fun, and it delivered. This game is also soo stunning.. Just beautiful. We very much enjoyed it.

Maybe the game is too hard to play.

Brilliant. This game is incredible. Im our opinion, it is possibly the best adventure game on the App Store. It has a simple, but moving and unforgettable story; haunting, beautiful music; and the graphics. As a graphic designer and CGI artist, we have to say the graphics are ridiculously great. Hugely detailed, and beautiful 3D areas, that you free to explore at your will. This game is amazingly designed. It is truly a timeless classic. What are you waiting for? Treat yourself to the Journey of a lifetime.

We love this game so much! Theres nothing really bad about it. But anyways, 10/10 would recommend.

Changing review from 3 star to 5 since upgrading from iPad 5th gen to iPad Pro 2 fixed majority of bugs, glitches and companion connection. The game is breathtaking, aesthetic and cinematic. It has an incredible seamless flow in transitioning the angle of the camera as you move around. Theres a level making the sun so immersive you can feel the warmth of it shining on your face. Though short, this is our favorite open world game topping other mainstream games we’ve played because of Journeys simplicity, eliminating any words or text. No need for weapons or fighting. After switching to IPad Pro 2, FINALLY we have completed the game beginning to end with a companion two nights in a row. What we did: wore red robe with all patterns. Broken Bridge: Unlocked first part of bridge. Collected all symbols. Unlocked all small machine parts that do not affect the bridge. Sat on the rock connected to the 2 ribbon war machine left side of the bridge. Be VERY patient. Screen transition is okay when you make your character sit. Once in a while disconnect and reconnect internet but not often. When someone appears, stay very close together. Unitedly activate things. And play all the way through. Btw, we were connected with beginner players. Story is touching and experience memorable.m.

At points it gets SO hard that we had to look it up! It is a very very VERY wonderful game and Im only 8! We read 2 10 year old books and THIS VERY GAME we got freeked out! The songs changed into songs that make you think… Something creepy is going to happen! We loved this game and we recommend this game to ANYONE who loves some sad some spooky and some happy. This game… Everyone should play this game. This is the 2nd time we have played this game. We STILL AM FREEKED OUT!?!? AND GUESS WHAT we AM. This is one of the best game we’ve played and finished.

We have never written a review on a game before. We rarely do in general but this game is just wow The art, the music, everything. The story is so pretty and just falls together without there ever being a word said by any of the characters. We saw this on The Countdown on Snapchat and Im so glad that we did. Its all so wonderful. We cant believe after all the hard work that Im positive was put into this its such an inexpensive price. We finished it in one night. Id like to see more of this. Maybe a second story or just something along the lines of this game. Hope the creators see this review because Im very impressed.

This game is so much fun! We started playing and now cant stop! We 100% recommend!

Loved being able to play it again, brought back some great memories. It is kinda buggy, but honestly it was better than the official ps3 version. We enjoyed a ton.

Just like it said in the title it is a great game, single player is perfect. Our primary reason for writing a review is that we hope the developers notice it and fix a few multiplayer bugs. 1 If two players get on a meditation circle at the same time they just start endlessly chest bumping each other. 2 Sometimes textile creatures glitch and freezes up, this almost never happens in single player but in multiplayer it happens pretty frequently. Also The textile whale in the light tower is exceptionally prone to this behavior. 3 If there are multiple players present during the scene where the flying stone sentinel makes its first appearance then all players become camera locked on the event. In addition Once that happens the stone sentinel never activates. Note: this scene plays perfectly when only one player is present. 4 If there is more than one player on the mountain(snow terrain) then wind affects are not present nor are any players ribbons at risk of being torn. 5 If there is more than one player on the mountain(snow terrain) then the flying stone sentinels will freeze and remain motionless in the air.

Beautiful graphics and simple controls. The story is interesting despite no explanations. We had some time to kill and finished in one sitting. Very enjoyable.

Awesome game but lags and glitches a bit.

Its pretty short, like a demo, but good. Flying reminds us a little bit of Spider-Man games.

Its one of the most visually stunning and emotional games we’ve ever seen. The music is phenomenal as well. We absolutely love it.

Wasnt sure what to expect from this game, but we trusted the purchase knowing we had heard so many good things. First thing to do is go into the iOS Settings app and bump up all the graphical options to as high as your device can manage – its worth it. As the title states, the game starts rather slow and we wasnt quite sure of the goal from the onset. However, as you progress, your purpose becomes more evident without ever truly explaining all the details, but rather letting you craft your own interpretation. Needless to say, we ended up loving the full, albeit short, experience. Took about ~2 hours to complete and we preferred a controller over touch controls.

This games music is very beautiful and the storyline strikes a chord in our heart. Still fun even after the 4th or 5th time playing. It is rare to meet another person in this game as well, so when you do its very exciting and special. We think its worth the money. Highly recommend!

Awe and grief and kinship and gorgeous music. Incredibly impacting.

We played this several years ago on PS3 and at that time we remember thinking it was the most enjoyable video game Id ever played. The concept, the game environment, the soundtrack, all great! Best of all is the psychological moment of a random companion in an environment without the ability to speak to one another, and where cooperation benefits both. A seminal piece of work there. We downloaded this iOS version and havent been disappointed. We were kinda put off by there being no achievement trophies though. Seems to abbreviate the gaming experience. That said, we were pleased to see that the effect of the Transcendence achievement still exists, if not the trophy. We’ve noticed that the game is much more sparsely populated than it used to be. Im journeying alone altogether too often. In spite of this we still give a 10 of 10. Even running solo its a delightful gaming experience. Very happy its still available, and still highly recommended.

A beautiful and moving experience. Its so immersive youre actually sliding, springing, flying and soaring.

Its beautiful and we finished the game.

Other than performance & battery issues, it has no game center achievements, and the progress randomly resets.

We absolutely LOVED this game it is so beautiful and the music adds A LOT to the mood! This game is probably our favorite game that we have!!! We were super sad when it ended! Everything about it had emotion and beauty in it!!! If you have not played this yet, you should play it!!! It is worth paying the money!

We truly never write reviews, but we just competed our first play through of Journey, and we have to say, it was an experience rarely found in the video game world. The art, playstyle, musical cues… Its brief but wonderful. We escaped into another world in a pitch black room with headphones and a PS4 controller paired to our iPad. Just buy it, compete your own journey, and thank us later.

The first time we played Dune on PS4 was very recently, and we honestly had a spiritual experience, a first for us with a video game. The visuals and gameplay are so simplistic but even without any writing or dialogue they tell a very moving story, with a dreamlike sense of sacredness and a deep touch of humanity on a desolate alien world. The multiplayer aspect of the game is what really binds you to the experience, in our opinion. On this iOS version, youll find the multiplayer experience is lacking. Im not sure why, but you simply cant find another player to travel with you for the entire length of the journey. It may just be that because this is a mobile platform, people are swiping the app off in the middle of things, although we cant see this being a pick up, play, put down kind of game, so Im guessing its a connectivity issue. This is an older game with kind of a niche following so we can see why, with Sky: Children of Light doing so well now, Journey is a low priority, or maybe there is some issue that makes multiplayer of this kind harder on iOS for reasons we wouldnt understand as a layperson. Journey gets 5 stars for PlayStation, and we could easily say 10/5 stars, but 4 stars from us for iOS because you typically lose the companionship aspect of the gameplay.

This game is incredible, first time we’ve played it and we’ve played sky for a couple years before and we sure can say that we think we love the concept of this game way more. There are no micro transactions and the scenery, music, and visuals are stunning enough to keep you playing multiple times through. We hv also been lucky enough to meet plenty of helpful and fun ppl along the way, messing around and having a good time until we sadly had to say goodbye at the end haha. We sure wish they would update this game though and add a more customizable ui, add more tricks your character can do while flying, let us be able to add people as friends, add more unlock able secrets in game which could be items and places. It would also be cool to have a social area like in sky where u could just fly around forever with other ppl haha. Overall, a game worth 2 hours that you are sure to cherish. Thanks skygamecompany!

In the snow mountain scene, there is no jump button. Can you please fix the bug?

Ok we all have to admit. This game is absolutely amazing. But we were just playing normally like anyone would care. And when we wanted to play again after exiting to do some stuff it would not let us play . It would just show the fly and call button then it crashes the game! This has been going on for a week and im getting pretty tired of it. So if it is a bug or something please fix it. Thanks a tons.

THE DARN GAME KEEPS FREEZING Can you please fix it.

As many others did, we learned of Journey because we play Sky Children of the Light. Both games are similar but also so different from each other. We loved and hated how this game forced us to slow down. Maybe it would have been better if we used a controller but touch was difficult to walk slowly. Our overall experience was positive until the last level. We basically saw nobody else while playing this but we were accompanied by another on the last level till they got to one spot and it was like the wind was too strong for them to walk. They reached an invisible wall. We had to continue without them. Then a little further we couldnt not walk forward either. We restarted the app and got to the part where our companion had been stuck and we hit the same invisible barrier and had to restart the app again. Finally on our third attempt we were able to go up the summit. There were also times in earlier levels where the game just froze and we could do nothing besides restart the app. Kind of disappointing. We probably shouldnt compare this game to Sky but we were a bit surprised how short Journey was and theres really not much replay value.

Great game but it was much too short, finished it in 2-3 hours.

The game is great but despite how great it is, thatgamecompany apparently doesnt care so much about the reputation of Journey since they havent updated the app on this platform for 2yrs. Heads up. On iOS this game is loaded with bugs, glitching and connection issues that takes away the joy of the experience. It also crashes. Their matchmaking system is terrible youre rarely connected with anyone and when you are it rarely lasts more than a few before all of a sudden your companion sits down and then turns to dust. Slowly disintegrating into the wind. If you do last together longer than a few minutes prepare for glitches in your characters and in your surrounding. If you do dust on you put so distance between you and where they last were, maybe activate something they most likely would have but be careful because you could activate something that would prevent you connecting. If give where they were some distance you may see them suddenly appear around you.

Vine por Sky, pero el juego es demasiado corto para el precio, us gust pero us lo pas en dos horas y eso no us gust.

A glitch caused us to have to redownload and replay. Also, way too short for a paid game.

After finding this game sometime in February, we can easily say that it has become our favorite game of all time. We think we’ve played it around 80 times now. Its pretty short, but for its length, its emotionally powerful enough through its storyline and incredible soundtrack that its the only game that has made us cry. That being said, there are other versions of this game that are far superior to the iOS version. Firstly, its virtually impossible to complete this game with a companion. Journeys multiplayer feature is one of its core components, but there are so many glitches, such as flying carpets not showing up (or being completely frozen), enemies not showing up, wind not showing up, and sudden disconnects when entering another level. Levels that ended with flying or being carried off by flying carpets ensured that we would never see our companion again, because the other player would fall off to one side of the screen and disappear, or carpets would be frozen in place (wouldnt carry us into the next level). Secondly, we also remember that in every other version of Journey, you cannot meet a newcomer if you have a white robe. This was implemented so that new players wouldnt be distracted/intimidated/frustrated by someone who looks completely different. However the iOS version does not follow this rule, and all the times that we’ve played, we have only come across experienced players 3 times. We play exclusively in a white robe, and the game would almost always connect us with first-timers who would immediately leave the game as soon as they saw us. Which is extremely frustrating. Hopefully these glitches and the issues with only running into first-timers gets fixed, because they do ruin the experience of an otherwise fantastic game.

Journey was our favorite game and still is many years after we first discovered it on PlayStation. Last year during the Covid lockdown we newly discovered that it had been ported to iOS. The freezes and the audio glitches ruin the beautiful music thereby lessening the impact of this game. Also, like other reviewers, we wonder why there are rarely any companions that join us. And why, if we do get hooked up with a companion, does the game bump one of us out? Developers, please fix these issues for iOS mobile devices.

Got stuck in ice stage for hours / days / 2 weeks. No idea how to get by it? Lost all its appeal, frustrated, deleted.

First off, we thought Journey was good game. It had good graphics, good music, and great art style. Thinking that it was made by the same company that created Sky, the two games would be similar. From our perspective, we love playing Sky because the game makes us feel at peace since we can go wherever, we can do whatever we wanna do, and we can fly around as long as we want. While Journey is a little more serious and life threatening than Sky. You cant show any expression, there isnt any explanation to what the creatures are, and adding on to that we almost died playing it the first time because of a creature in two parts of the game. By the way, these creatures are way more scary than the Dark Dragons! So what do we do? We decide to start a new Journey but once we do, the nice creatures werent leading us the same way that they did the first time. Maybe the game has a glitch? We dont know and we dont care.

Not going to lie. We love this game! The graphics and the way on how it is its phenomenal. Whats upsetting is that it keeps freezing on us and it takes away on how the journey goes.

Got myself into a crevasse and couldnt get out. All was lost…

Journey is our all time favorite game but the true experience is on console, especially for the community. We love having Journey in our pocket, but the controls and camera on the phone version need improvement.
