Actually think his heal upgrades are important. The stamina Regen triggers if there are no elf allies "to revive". So if you have the heal maxed and the AoE at lvl 5, turn 1 he will heal, top everyone off and get 2 stamina. Next turn AoE, then next turn heal again.
