Looking for more information? Read a comprehensive review of Star Wars: Imperial Assault below:

As long as your expectations are tempered this app can add hours to the base game. It is not an augmented board/video game hybrid, it is much more on par with an automa deck. It was also developed 3-4 years after the game was already released, so its a little janky. The structure of what it does is very simple, gives you a mission, randomly drops enemies in a couple of pre-defined spots, gives you a framework of what action to take when its the enemy turn. Our guess is this app was developed after seeing the popularity of Gloomhaven on KS. Given FL Games took an already existing game, then mapped a single/co-op experience onto it, and made it free, we think it deserves 5 stars.

A lot of dumb people left bad reviews because they didnt read the description and thought this was a stand alone game. It clearly states that its a companion app for the board game.

Im an IA nerd. We’ve been obsessed with this game for over a year and Ill just say Im involved. We’ve played games against the champion of almost every tournament IA has had in the last year. We own every box expansion and have played with almost every figure in both skirmish and campaign. So far we have played 3 campaigns in this app, and we can definitely say this app is okay. If you dont know what this app does, it essentially gives you another campaign for each box campaign you already have. (Thats 4 of you own every expansion.) after entering everything you own in the app, you can then play youre campaign. The campaigns are completely new and decent enough. The biggest pro in our opinion is definitely that this app allows you to play IA alone. We have spent countless hours sitting at our game table playing Legends of the Alliance simply because we were itching to play something IA. (And needed to be able to leave at a moments notice without worrying about leavening someone lfg on Slack having wasted 30 minutes.) Another pro is the way doors are structured. If you have yet to open a door, you cannot see anything on the other side of it. Plus, even things that are around corners are invisible to you. There are also a few really creative map objectives that can only be accomplished through the app. The biggest con is definitely the bad guys and allies. Many of the abilities, mostly on allies, are pretty much impossible to use or translate. You will find that it is completely up in the air whether you can even use a given supply card. Plus, its way too easy to simply forget to wound a hero in the app and have to face way too many imperials. Most importantly, its just not as fun to have to log everything in an app. While the app unlocks many things you wouldnt otherwise have with IA, its simply not as fun as playing with real people. There is just so much to do in the app (and so much that doesnt translate well) that its not as fun as the real thing. But that is definitely not to say the app is bad. It does as advertised. For a free app, its a great extra thing you can do. But while the app is free, the game isnt. If you already have the game, we would very highly recommend that you try the app. The solo play is great if you simply have no one to play with and the co-op is fine enough if you have to play co-op. Just be sure, no matter how you play, that you always select 4 players. Divide up the 4 heroes how you want but be sure to pick 4. If you are buying the game for the solo and co-op play, we would recommend that you spend your money somewhere else. There are better solo games out there. If you have only played IA against the app, then you havent truly played IA. Its fun, but not only is it not as good, but there isnt enough content in the app to make the 100 bucks worth it. If youre already considering getting IA but barely edged it out until you saw the app, then Id say still get it. The app does what it claims so if you can get past some weird figure interactions and a lot of app tracking we think youll be happy. We play IA at one of the highest levels there is so if your more casual, most of our arguments probably wont apply. The UI is very easy to use and the control are very easy to understand so for those who dont necessarily need the purest IA there is then give then you will be perfectly fine with the app. If youre big into the skirmish mode, we can confidently tell you that the app will not help with that. Please, we beg you, if you care even a little bit about the skirmish mode, be sure to check out the IACP. Believe it or not, IA still has a very active community with amazing people and balancing changes for almost every unbalanced card in the game. (Not to mention new figures like Mando, Mara Jade, and Yoda) Just go to the Imperial Assault Continuity Project website and youll find everything you need. Also, be sure to check out the Slack channel. We should mention before we conclude, that there is another option other than this app. It uses the same campaigns as are in the campaign guides but it is way more accurate than this app. Overall not bad! It does what it says it does, and its not perfect at all, but still pretty good!

Its really horrible plus it doesnt even say what to do this is the worst game we felt bad what we said so we left you a 3star.

At first, this game had us going but, due to the lack of work in this game. We have our issues, but the main issue is that you cant see your character(s). Also end character? Why would that be a feature? And due to the fact that you need the board game to play, due that -1 stars, -2 stars. Developers please please pleaseeeee fix these issues. Id rather eat our own eye-ball than buy the board game, but anyways not bad.

Fantasy flight??? What the heck happened?!? How can you drop the ball like this. The app is really nice but it lacks a lot of campaign data. You can use this only for the core set and also for the Return to Hoth and Jabas Realm. Nothing else!!!! Not even expandable characters which this has a lot. Ex. When you add Luke Skywalker to the app, you would think he is a playable character but in those three campaigns, which are the only ones even though there are 3 more expansions on top of that, you can only use the characters that come with it. Why would we want to own Luke if we cant play as him!!! Seriously. This could be as nice as Journeys in Middle Earth which is an app that fully utilizes all of the extra content that you purchase. Doug.

Literally have to go through a long tutorial to eventually get into the game and then had no clue what to do. Wow, what fun, blah…

It takes too long to get started,

We would give this zero stars if we could.

Spend more time hitting the continue button than playing the game.

We cant begin to express our disappointment after discovering that they went through the work of creating maps and models for stuff like, doors, crates, etc. But not a single character model just straight up lazy we thought we were gonna be playing an xcom like top down tactical rpg but no its exactly that just you gotta use your imagination for everything.

It is just a bord game it isnt fun.

This tutorial got on our nerves. It took us 30 minutes just to keep saying continue. It would not let us play the game. It was very crappy and incredibly confusing.

This is soo confusing and the rules are very unclear we couldnt do anything how can anyone play this game! Im sorry but this is…. Its….(Sigh)

Dont know why you have the bored game to enjoy this game. And it just so boring to play to.

When we got this game, we thought it would be a 3D Star Wars game or something, but it it turns out you need a whole board game to do something with it. All in all, dont play unless you have the stinkin Board game.

The story is to short and its hard to play because you have to do everything yourself, but we love it.

It was fun at some parts but it was really complicated, and the tutorial was just so much to take in.

We honestly thought this game was good but you have to buy things! And in the tutorial it spams word and does not even let us use our troop. Really disappointed.

We think the tutorials was to long and once your done we were still confused.

Just finished playing the Core game campaign with our wife and it was a blast. There are a few things that would help improve it like a back button so you can see things like where Imperials are deployed if you accidentally clicked continue. Where we see them really making a lot of money for this is going to be in-app purchases. We feel a lot of people would pay between $7-$15 for additional campaigns. Not only getting campaigns for all the other expansions but just making more campaigns in general beyond that. It would put much more value for people that physically own the game already. It would increase the amount of people purchasing this, especially now during social distancing. Also it would be making a ton of extra revenue since all they would need to do is program new missions and campaigns and not worry about printing and production of new figures.

Soooo why on our iPad 7th gen. Latest iOS, does some of the text suddenly change to Spanish?? Can you maybe fix that in the next update? Lol.

We tried this with friends. We really wanted to like this app, but its mostly unplayable for a few reasons. It doesnt play alongside the tutorial campaign in the rule book. If you press the wrong button theres no undo, which if it happens after your friends make a great dice roll it can be a bitter pill to swallow just to get back in sync with the app. It claims to control the imperial side, but it makes you have to control them yourself anyway. Basically it adds complexity instead of removing it.

This app was the ONLY reason we bought the game. We love Star Wars but wasnt sure Id get a game group together that would want to play this enough, so needed a way to play solo. This app delivers, LOVE IT. FF please keep supporting and adding missions – Id pay for dlc (if we had to!).

Great app but its letterboxed with big black bars on iPhone X style devices.

You need the board game which costs 20 bucks.

Plays great, but has some minor issues here and there. Playing the Jabbas Realm campaign now and during one mission it says, Select the Neutral Mission token rule now, but there is nothing on screen that refers to this or is it anywhere in the rules. Its apparently a bug and those are supposed to be on screen at the bottom (?), no apparent way to see what its referring to.

Love this app , its got us playing a game we had put down for a while and got us interested in expanding our collection. Having the app run the Imperials offers us the ability to co-op play with friends and family. We always get stuck being a game master which makes it so we never get to join in on the surprise story ac twist . This app does it brilliantly. Few things we would love to see 1 audio narration of story (like the Descent app) would make soo much more immersive. 2 better character stat info In app . Example when you select a hero in game you get option of defeat character and turn end . If when we click on character we could see their card stats upgrades and items it would be huge on clearing more space on game table and keeping up with info between games. 3. A damage and strain counter for characters . 4 more campaigns added to the app . We freaking love you guys . This game gives us that campaign feel that we dont get from Star Wars Legion . Which we purchase all of product line (apps for Legion would be awesome)

It is awesome, but as a newcomer, any possibility to have the core board campaign game here ? It sounds like this is a new adventure, but still, having some new campaigns would be awesome.

We love this app. We play IA with our kids and this allows us to be on the same side instead of being the Imps. We look forward to additional campaigns. We do agree with others that the random creatures is confusing and impacts the theme. We do not want to see dewback riders inside a starship or a wampa on a desert map. We wish there was a way to deselect individual enemies.

This game is so amazing, we play it with our family all the time. The only complaint we have is that one time, in the new Jabbas realm campaign, we had received the ally Chewbacca, and when we finished the mission after it, where we didnt bring him, we no longer had the option to bring him on another mission.

We love the interaction pieces where you can choose a less then optimal strategy to get to your mission goal. It’s fun to play fully co-op. We’ve print and played the BBG user AI and tried that way as well. We find the overall experience good. But when you’re running down an imperial base hallway and a door opens to reveal stormtroopers and a WAMPA? That breaks the spirit. We could deal with a couple bounty hunters… It is at least possible. But there needs to be a pool of possible enemies for each mission not every available unit we own. We followed the progress of this app long before it was released. We own all of wave 1 and some more after that. We were hoping to start getting back into this game after its release but it’s underwhelming. We played the 5 mission camping back in May. There’s just now another campaign, but we’ll need to buy the $50+ Jabba’s realm expansion to play it? We like the 5 mission upgrade plan but what about Bespin? Hoth? Twin shadows? Or a $5 mission pack? We’ve already invested lots of $$$ into the system and I’d like to be inspired to continue buying. But Mansions of madness has a bunch of missions like 16, we know that a lot of those you need expansions for but road to legend also has far more then imperial assault. We’ll run the main campaign again with another group on hard. But we’ll certainly know the story and rooms to open/avoid. We’re just hoping for more.

Its a good way to play solo and help with an AI to do the rest for you so thank you Fantasy Flight for having a third way to play, but there is one thing Thats bothering us right now. In the Jabbas Realm expansion, in middle of the first mission of the game, our game keeps constantly keeps crashing. We would appreciate if you fix that problem! Thank you!

For the most part, we love the app. We have a few nitpicks though. 1: we dont understand why FFG doesnt add the campaigns and side missions from the physical game. Our brother and we get together once or twice a month for a tabletop game night, and if the app had the story from the boxes then this would be the only game we play. 2: kind of in the same spirit as the first, new content is taking way to long to update. Circling back to our first point, you dont even need to hire new writers. Just import one or two missions from the physical game every month or so. Im sure that even most of the people who have already played that content wouldnt complain.

We love the game and we were so excited when Jabbas Realm was added. Sadly, we have attempted the first mission of JR twice and both times the app crashes mid way through. When we try to load the saved game, it puts us back to the very beginning. Please fix this, Fantasy Flight!

This is what we were waiting for since hearing rumors that imperial assault was getting a app. We really hope they add the campaign from the core box. Would be a 5 Star app then.

Everyone that wrote a bad review, really doesnt know how to play either the core game or this app expansion very well. Lets get something clear, nothing can really replace a human GM. This is just meant to be a way to play with your friends coop together without needing someone to be play as the imperial player. Thats awesome all in itself. And in the tutorial it explains that you do what would be best for the imperial player. Called Imperial Rule. We think its creative how they help the imperial player move and shoot, and then move back into cover. It makes the game more challenging! Also this app is FREE. Its apparent how much time was actually spent making this. Not an easy task. An app we would have happily paid for but am really, really pleased that they gave it to us for FREE. If youre complaining about this FREE app, and everything it is offering, this game is not for you. Great job FFG. Keep it up!

We read the game info and it sounded cool. That was until we loaded the app. The first thing we saw was a notice saying we needed the board game to play.

The app looked cool but then when we started to play it, it made us read like 20 paragraphs of stuff and by the time we made it to the game part we were disappointed.

This is a fantastic additions to play an already fantastic game. It is a companion app that allows you to play a new campaign in coop or solo mode. The box game already allows you to do 1v1 skirmishes and a 1v1-4 campaign mode that is completely different than the LOTA campaign. For us, this has allowed us to play WITH our 2 younger daughters whereas the standard games made us play against them. Together, we can give them advice as a team member while we run through the missions. There have already been some good updates to allow you to have more random enemies from your owned collection to play against, Allys to join you, and heroes to select. We look forward to future campaign updates based on the boxed expansions. Thank you FFG for expanding our play options at no additional cost to us. This has made us WANT to purchase more expansions and play the game more than we previously did, which we gladly will do. Brilliant model that more companies could learn from.

We know they added a few new features but this app has been out for months, how about some new missions? There are zero announcements about this by Fantasy Flight. Instead every update from this is pushing new card and board game expansions. If youre going to make solo players excited about a product at least give us a roadmap. If this was a physical product thered be seventeen expansions out by now.

This is a great way to get a group into IA. It’s not quite the same as the paper campaign but it goes over the differences. It would be cool if the app automated the AI and tracked player movements but we understand why it does not. This is meant to be an accessory to the game and if automated everything in game, you would have no need to purchase the game components.

This required a person to play each side before which was not as much fun in our household as were more of a cooperative game household. After playing with this app, however, it completely changed the game. Our son LOVES playing this game with us now since we can play in the same side, and the narrative the app adds is pretty good! Definitely a must-try if you own the game and enjoy cooperative games.

The app is good and could be great with some small improvements. We will start by listing the reasons the app is good. It does give you a chance to play with your friends or family not against them. The app can track most of your game so if you are like us and most of the people we know that play these games (Mansions of Madness or Descent) you do not play them from start to finish in one session. You can tell the app what each hero uses there XP for and you can buy cards with credits on the app. One thing that is keeping the game from being great is the app does not track everything for you between sessions. If you get a supply crate card in a session there is no were to tell the app which card you got. They also have you remove the supply crate card that gives you a 100 credit bonus because they did not have an option in the app to give yourself more credits, It almost seems like they dont trust you to play the game honestly. The Imperial forces movement could be simplified. For example when you need to take an Imperial turn you get something. Like this. The app is telling us to activate the storm troopers and we are given the following list: *> Move 3 to attack << the closest Rebel >> > Move 2 to reposition 4 > Move 6 to reposition 4 So, the app will tell you you must move thru the list from top to bottom and you can only perform one *> line and one > or two > lines. (In some cases you app with give you two or more lines with the *>.) If you cant do the first you move down. In this case there are two options. Option 1: If we follow the list we would move each trooper up to three spaces toward the closest Rebel and fire. Then we need to move 2 spaces away from every rebel. The reposition 4 means they want to get at least but no more then 4 spaces away from every rebel or at least as many as we can. Problem: In the game rules a Imperial Storm Troopers can take two actions. One can be an attack and the second can be a move. Per the card in the game troopers can move four spaces. In this case the troopers are moving 5 spaces. This is small but we see this a number of times in the game. One figure moved twice its movement and attacked. Option 2: If all of the rebels are so far away that you could not attack them after moving three spaces, you skip the first line. You then move two spaces towards the closest rebel but stay four spaces away. Then you would move up to eight spaces towards the closest rebel but again stay four spaces away. Problem: Complicated Here is how you could simplify this. Move up to 3 spaces towards the closest Rebel. If you are within 3 spaces attack and finish moving (up to 4 total spaces) by moving away from all rebels, tried to get 4 spaces away if possible. -or- Move up to 8 spaces towards the closest Rebel but stay 4 spaces away from all of them. Which is simpler? They also changed the rules on how some conditions effect imperial forces and personally we do not like how they changed the stunned condition. To be honest, this change was confusing and it did not need to be. It almost feels like they planned out how the imperial forces would take there actions and they thought they did a great job and then some one said Wait what about when they are stunned?. Then they just made something up that does not work at all. We should be able to tell the app that a Imperial Force has a condition liked stunned or focused which should change how the app gives you instructions. Using the above example if one of the troopers was stunned It could say: Discard the stunned condition, then: If they are within 3 spaces of a Rebel, attack the closest Rebel. -or- Move up to 4 spaces towards the closest Rebel but stay 4 spaces away. Finally, If the app has changed the way you play the base game the new rules or changes should be accessible within the app. We should not need to open a PDF on the web. Also, the changes need to be explained better. The changes to stunning Imperial forces was so confusing we could not figure it out and the forums seemed just as confused as we were.

If we didnt wait long enough already for this app we will have to wait a little bit longer to get the content some of us were hoping for. As of now there is a single campaign. Most, if not all products (expansions and character packs) have been added to the game. What we dont have are any of the campaigns that come from core game or expansions. Not sure if there is any plan to take those campaigns and make them playable with the app. Still worth checking out if you want that coop experience. A few rule changes to the base game such as disregarding some rules on the printed cards in favor of the app rule, etc. There is also no music and the sounds remind us a little of Star Wars but, likely because of licensing issues, they have few if any specific Star Wars sounds. So for now Ill use our sound and music libraries or YouTube for our ambiance. Havent actually played a game yet, but the tutorial gave us a taste of what that experience will be like. We dont know how many agree with us but we enjoy Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition App. We didnt care for the app for Descent. We are exited to give this a try though as we love the Star Wars theme. Imperial Assault is the best dungeon crawler style board game out there. Ill update our review after a playthru.

We were hoping this would be as great as the game but it just lacks.
