They have fixed almost any and all major problems with steam link, we just hope they add voice chat to steam chat mobile, also make it to where you can full screen on steam stream.

Updated our M1 Air and now Steam Link is completely borked. It has been working fine for a long time, but now it just crashes as soon as we interact with the window after connecting to a PC. Update: Seems to be fine now, but an update would still be great for stability.

You need a strong wi-fi connection or it wont work. Not all games work, especially ones with strange aspect ratios. Im not going to fault the app for this. The stream deck has the same problem. We believe a lot of the 1 star reviews are people who do not understand how this works. We are still giving it 3 stars, since we believe some work on this app is neglected. We could be wrong.

After the new big picture update our latency has doubled. Wired or wireless, doesnt matter. We’ve even disabled nvidia game stream to no avail. This app needs some tlc.

We use our controller on our PC all the time no issues. We connect the exact same controller to the iPad and boot up remote play with all the correct bindings and settings to make it work and nothing works. Half our bindings are switched to scrolling for no reason and the left stick is stuck bound to the scroll wheel. We cant play a single game on this app even if the connection was stable enough to do so. Fix this absolute abomination of an app.

Some Sega games (like Sonic and Sega all-stars racing) didnt work. Starting a Sega game our screen just looks black so we then just have to use our device as a controller. But can you fix it? Thanks!

Until recently, we used to be able to mirror our iPad display to our 4K TV using an adapter. When we selected start playing it would display the content full screen on the TV. However recently, this just stopped working and when we select start playing we get a flicker, on both the iPad and TV and stays on the main Steam Link screen without the content streaming or displaying on the TV at all. Other apps that output video to the TV from IPad still works. Not sure what changed to make this not work all of the sudden.

We were surprised how well it worked on a bad network, somehow even managed to use our cellular to connect to our home pc.

Impressed this sort of works, however couldnt get audio from a Mac hosting a Steam game. Filed an issue on the support site. Noticed some community comments that may indicate this has been broken for years without an expectation of resolution. They should probably disable Mac from hosting Steam link if they wont or cant fix the audio drivers with current macOS versions.

Screen goes black when trying to use airplay ever since the update!!! Im very sad. Its not letting us cast any games to our TV, the entire app goes black. This was not a problem before.

It works if you have a good internet connection very well. We can play all our steam games on our phone . Get a Backbone for better gameplay than the phone overlay controller.

Exceeds all of our expectations and works more than exceptionally.

This is the best game of the game is not on iPad or iPhone or iPod it works we love it byeee .

We already wrote a good review but this is for steam. You should create a plug and play booster for cellphones!! Why? Cause this app could benefit greatly so could your profits from the multi use item even if it specially made for this Think about it the app will always be limited by the users connection so you boost there connection, via a item you produced to work in tandem with the app. Idk that you can make one, Im really just tryna put this into the airwaves to potentially peak interests. Bc yes it is needed, we honestly while we love this app Is popularity is unknown bc people arent telling theirs friends to use the app. Ik what your saying we are gonna make them buy a booster for a free app thats supposed work without one, yes it works but we are tying to make it work better to hit that roof thats is what the buyers of this hypothetical item are seeking. Ponder it steam, give it a good think, ik this may affect the steam deck but in reality, the steam deck is needed about as much as this old steam machines we saw in GameStop but never asked for ever. Its cool ig if you dont mind a 500$ paper weight. Its performance heard it was good we still dont care why ? Bc we got lucky enough to find a 3070 why would we ever want the steam deck. No offense Im just logical like that. This app is what the people want Pc anywhere not substitutions dependent on need. Expand the app expand your arsenal for the app. The booster should have a usb cable for powering and two ports for usb type c for iPhone and whatever android uses now. Price it around 50 -100 and make sure it performs for that price or your sending out a failure. Needs to have some reach to get through Thick walls at work. Idk if thats actually a item you can make but if you can why r u not.

We get 60 FPS on red dead compared to 73 on pc.

Garrys mod can be played on it if you have a pc or a laptop.

You guys need to calm down its not that serious tbh especially techygods review.

If you have something like an iPad, the app isnt that bad. Doesnt hit the battery too hard, controller support is decent and with good enough wifi you shouldnt have an issue with graphics.

We’ve had no issues with this, it’s improved a lot in the past year.

This is the best thing anyone could have come up with its just the lag if that gets fixed this will be godly this is very under rated.

App works perfect . If bandwidth declines so does the experience. The app is 100%.

The input lag is slightly high compared to the physical steam link device. Some delay noticeable.

We wish there was a way to turn on your actual pc from remote play.

5 star app for sure if it wasnt for this problem, when we connect our airpods it wont let us use the microphone in steam link and the output audio basically everytime we turn on the microphone with our airpods in it mutes the in-game audio plz fix this thanks!

We think it thinks our computer is a steam deck.

We downloaded this app thinking we could play our steam games on the go but if we have to be on the same network then we have no interest. Why would we want to play games in our house on our phone when we could just use the tv?

We find the best use case for Steam link, is to use your phone and headphones of choice with steam link. It creates a makes for a great work around when you have no bluetooth port/ Headphones. Turn off Video and controls and it streams great depending on the internet/data each device is using, you could even use Googles Desktop sharing tool for a lighter weight version of this workaround. Otherwise used, Steam Link its a half decent showcase of Valve’s streaming tech, is one downfall really is how bloated it is. That plus your bandwidth/data bottlenecking just slows everything down further…

While the app is ok, and works fine, there are several bugs that hobble it. For example, it often freezes after we close a game and we have to restart. Keeping a key pressed will bring up the accent menu in macOS Ventura. Still, we’re happy it’s there and there’s an option to stream games to our laptop when we’re lazy.

This application is an amazing piece of work that turns your mobile devices into thin-clients for your gaming PC. It includes network diagnostics tools, and lots of customization and settings to help you get the optimal experience. The one major frustration that prevents us from giving this a 5/5 is that there are still major issues with games that require mouse input. We have two major gripes: To start with, in quite a few games, scrolling up and down on a magic mouse does nothing. We haven’t tried it with a normal PC mouse that has a scroll wheel, but this should just work out of the box for an application on the App Store. Secondly In the Windows version of Unity games running through Proton, right-clicking anywhere on the screen to change the camera angle results in rapid spinning. The right-click seems to send mouse positions all over the game display, and it makes the games unplayable. We know emulation is tricky, but Valve’s engineers work on both Steam Link and Proton, so this should have been caught by QA. Still, for the games where these aren’t limitations, Steam Link is awesome. That’s why we’re giving this 3 stars.

Steam Link would be great if valve actually put more work into polishing it. Upon connecting to your computer, they put steam into big picture mode on shows you your game library, which is done pretty well. However, its not always reliable if say, you have a game already open and you want to connect to your computer and keep playing remotely from your phone. At times itll just show you an infinite loading screen and when you can get the game on the screen, the controls will be unresponsive. When they work, Controls can be mediocre but at least you can fully customize them, although we think we have ran into issues with the control layout saving. However, if you have any type of wireless controller, you can connect it to your computer and just use the phone as a screen and audio. Speaking of audio sometimes, The sound doesnt always switch the app, and stop on the computer Speakers which can be mildly annoying. Another thing that is mildly annoying is the STUPID bootink! Or poo tink ! Boop Sound effect for EVERY TIME hit a button in options menus. We mean seriously why do we need a sound? We already know what Im pressing. Please give an option to MUTE this sound effect because we HATE annoying UI sound effects. If these kinks can be ironed out, this app would be pretty much PERFECT. Wishing the best. Cheers.

You have to have Steam on on your computer almost usless.

Unless you have your computer open with steam with you at all times you cant bring it in the go. And you shouldn’t leave your computer open. And since you need PERFECT Wi-Fi to play is kinda stupid. Especially if your going places. And if you close your computer steam link closes to. Btw its funny how if you close steam on your computer during steam link you get to control your computer with your phone lol Overall we dont see when Ill be using this app. Sincerely- some guy.

The touch controls on the game will at some point just stop working and you have to redownload id love to pay 5 a month for this app if valve kept it running well.

Annoyed because this says this is Steam link, yet its basically your entire computer screen itself being streamed to your device. Could be cool in some cases, however its less cool when someone else is trying to play a game on the computer that isnt related to and doesnt need Steam to run whatsoever while youre trying to play using this app and it streams their game to your device instead of just the Steam window. Incredibly annoying.

We try to play steam games on our phone when Im only a few feet away from our pc then it just loses its connection randomly please fix this issue it would be a big help! Thank You!

Lag, lag, disconnects, oh and also lag and you need to be near a pc which defeats the whole point. We want to be able to play ma games on the go, if we want to play it in our living room we will just bring our laptop in there.

It’s cool that this app exists and shows Steam’s commitment to making gaming accessible. For Mac users who want to enjoy their Windows games, it’s convenient… But only if you, idk, want to enjoy Windows games from your Mac-only office. It works fine, but the lag is the real killer. Streaming resolution is also pretty bad. Your keyboard and mouse won’t work on the Steam Deck and we haven’t found a workaround. You’ll enjoy your games a lot more if you just play them on a dedicated machine. We think the real issue with the app is the technical limitations. We imagine it’s not Steam’s fault the lag is so great and the resolution so poor, that’s just delay as info passes to and from your gaming machine. All in all, we’ll stick to our Steam Deck/Windows PC for gaming. Maybe someday the new toolkit Apple released will bring a future with games that work on Mac, but we’re not holding our breath.

Great idea but if you gotta be on the same wifi, whats the point? To keep playing when you gotta use the bathroom maybe? Overall id vote the point of using your phone for steam is to be away from home. Essentially to use your phone as a steamdeck (granted you have a phone controller to use). And im also aware this would imply loading huge games on the minimal memory phones have but thats what SD cards are for. If this app could run games on steam separately id unquestionably give it 5 stars and go as far as promoting/encouraging the download of it, but considering it has as much use as the controller youd likely use for it, its no more than a wireless connector for pc controllers. Saves money we guess but nothing to be hype about.

There is No Option for Removing previously added computers.

First of all, it works and it works actually better than full Steam client which doesn’t play sound from our remote PC (the sound plays on remote PC instead). Few things which don’t work. – In multi monitor setup, it is not possible to select which screen the full screen window will appear. – our steam controller connected via dongle (and not via bluetooth) shows as no controller, even though it works just fine first time the app starts – One we finish streaming game our steam controller stops working until we quit the app and restart it again. This is on M1 Max Mackbook Pro. Fixing these few little things would make it almost perfect.

If you are looking for a way to play steam on your phone away from home this is not what you want. It really only works at home and is very laggy its cool but we wouldnt really recommend.

Constantly fails to connect now. Can get it to connect maybe once every 20 tries, doesnt matter if youre on local or remote network.

Even with hard wired Ethernet using CAT6 cables, streaming quality is poor.

When we first installed it, it worked great, connected to our PC no issues. Now, it constantly shows the PC as offline, and when we try to re-add it under computers we get 000 as the pin which is invalid… Come on Valve, fix you stuff!

We used to use this all the time as a way to check on the progress of some of our games, not to play them outright because we dont have a good iOS controller. What we really used this for was Bluestacks. We had macros for some of our favorite mobile games. And it was also nice that locking our phone wouldnt quit the games we were playing. Since the big picture mode changed to look like the steam deck, all the resolutions are wrong. It will show that Im clicking on one thing but the mouse is in a totally different position. Also it seems like steam link stops other applications from opening. We try to open Bluestacks and it closes or stays on a black screen (if we open it while at/through our computer this doesnt happen). Lastly this new update also doesnt like it when we try to close big picture mode because it will sometimes freeze everything or exit and then immediately go back in on its own. Anyway, it doesnt work anymore for us but if it will work for the game you like its good. Thats pretty much our review.

Works well enough once its running but every single time we connect on this iphone it sets the resolution to 800×600. The setting to use our devices resolution doesnt change that. Manually changing resolution after we connect also isnt saved for next time. @Steam: It would be nice if we could manually set the resolution we want in the app.

This is a deal breaker for us, honestly. We have gotten our PS4 controller to work a few times from our M1 Mac, but it usually doesn’t. The controller pairs fine to the Mac and we can even control the Mac with it. On top of that, the controller even shows as being connected in the Steam Link app, but it will not control anything in the Steam Link app. Very frustrating. Uninstalling and trying something different.

We didnt want to use this medium to complain about this but nobody is fixing this. The PlayStation Edition of the Backbone One is detected by this app as PlayStation 5 controller and does not work well with the games especially de L2 button is dead in all games. Terrible, this is a new problem, please fix it.

Need to have a remote play option on steam link app instead of connecting your computer first.

Now a lack of good touch controls makes enough sense but if we cant use our controller then this app is kinda pointless.. Our controller doesnt work on this Im using a PS5 controller and was able to use it on other apps to test it but for some reason it doesnt work in this app despite it saying its connected. It wont do anything during that start up screen for the app where it says controller settings then test controller. Even after our phone connects to the computer and is loading up steam or a game directly it wont do nothing despite the fact we have the touch controls off. We can even test the controller by turning on and using the touch controls to go to steams controller setting press identify and the haptics confirm its connected. Is there a reason for this a way Im supposed to connect outside of Bluetooth ?? So from our experience its great if you can use the touch controls but our controller aint connecting so no SpiderMan Miles Morales mobile for us.
