Played this all the way through for another round of IX and because the fast forward features we were able to get through it and beat Ozma in 40 hours. Only bummer was when upgrading our iPhone we lost that file. Love this game though 10/10.
We dont know why people say that the game doesnt work at all. It works just fine. Sure it crashes but it only crashed once for us. Maybe you just have no play on an Older model of iPhone (we use iPhone XS Max) all in all great game. Probably our favorite final fantasy.

Our game keeps crashing every time we try to play it.
Used to have the loading crash issue but it seems to be fixed. Great game. Good port.
We had trouble with the game shutting down when we tried to load it. BUT IF YOU KEEP TRYING, IT WILL EVENTUALLY LOAD! One time it took 15 minutes of reloads, but if you keep trying it will load. Beside the load issue, the game works fine and it was a great play through. We would recommend it to anyone.
10/2023: we took the plunge in paying $20.99 USD for this magnificent game and we have to say, its working really well especially on our Iphone 13 – 17.0.3 iOS version. No crashes and everything is running smooth. Even though the update fix to this game (1.5.3) came out a year ago, it did resolve all the issues that all the reviews below were complaining about where its leading us to believe that all the negative reviews are more user related problems than the app itself. Maybe they were using an older version of iOS firmware to made it not function well, downloaded an older version of the app and/or they had jailbroken phones that hinders their capabilities in running the app itself, etc. Alot of variables that these users fail to specify and most reasons they choose not to be (rightly so, as some are illegal). Either case, these negative reviews below are from an earlier build update of the game itself and unsubstantiated user bound problems that is blaming on the app devs. Great Game! Especially with the cheats built into them! Makes the game more fun to play rather than grinding again as we did when this game came out (played 4-5 times full gameplay through; also paid it on our PS3/PSP long ago).
Just downloaded and played through for the first time. We were a little worried with other reviews mentioning the game not working, but it worked just fine for us.

Oh man, we havent played this in years. Got an iPhone 8+ and its running beautifully. Having previously played this game we can tell you theres the possibility of over a hundred hours of game play here, no need to rush. Thanks for bringing this forward to the mobile age guys.
Still early in the game, but so far the experience has been great. The game ported really well and handles the iPad screen well. Took a little getting used to the controlls, but it mostly feels natural.

Thank you for finally updating this! It was a bit upsetting that we were suddenly not able to open it but we think its worth the wait! The overall graphics are crisp and smooth, Im finally able to play one of our brothers favorite game.

Update: they fixed it: we love square Enix and how great to see them releasing the pixel remastered but it sorta frustrating we cant play our all time favorite game on the go anymore.

Square actually came through. After almost a year of this game becoming unplayable due to iOS updates they finally got this wonderful masterpiece up and running again. This was our first FF we played all the way through and we can say it is still our favorite. Thank you Square for fixing this childhood memory.
Why is the game so unbelievably unforgiving in regards to this game. KWEHHH over the patch of the smallest ground but like nah you aint closemiss actual controller.
The game now crashes when we select Continue from the main menu, AND when we try to Load our save data. (The save data was working, but now crashes the game, trying to load Slot 1:3) The controls are a bit wanting too it is far too easy to accidentally select an opponents card to take at the end of a match when trying to view the cards to see which one you want. EDIT: After loading other save files (slot 1 file 02) and scrolling the list, we finally got slot 2 file 03 to load, then immediately saved to slot 1 file 04 to see if a backup helps when trying to load a save file later. Before finally loading, the game crashed several times (~5-6 times).
Everything is great except one thing, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REMOVE THE TIME AND BATTERY INDICICATOR IT RUINS THE EXPERIENCE.
We havent finished it but so far this is a great port surprised to see it was the ps4 remaster instead of the original so this is the best looking version of the game. We mean if your interested in this game Im sure you know how great final fantasy 9 is so no need to review that. There has been one bug on new devices though that is a bit annoying when opening the game and pressing continue the game will instantly crash it will do this a couple times and then on the third try it works. So far no crashes when playing but it does feel a bit uneasy that the game could crash and you lose all the progress youve made hopefully the developers look into this for one more update.
IPhone 13 Pro Max. Crashes every time we try to boot up.
The controller button sensitivity is extreme, it skips dialogues if you dont tap the B button really fast.
We have had this game for a couple of weeks and enjoyed going back to our childhood and playing final fantasy 9 again. However, within the last 24 hours when we have tried to open the game to play it, it crashes when we select continue. This has happened about four times now and Im getting increasingly frustrated. Other than that, it is beautifully rendered and optimized for our phone which is an iPhone 13 Pro Max. We love the controls as they are really simple and easy to understand. Great game if we could just play it now.
We love this game in general, but Im giving 4 stars because it crashes every time we try to load it. This is after they pulled it and say they fixed the issue. This is frustrating and seems to be getting worse now that Im on disk 2. Id like them to try again. We beat FFI to FFVIII (as well as Tactics and some other stuff) on our phone without any similar issues (okay, Im a FF fanboy, oh well). This one is buggy for some reason.
Sound disappears within 5 min. Closing and restarting helps.. Another 5 min. IPhone 10 mega ultra XX.
Ff9 is our favorite but when played with a controller on iOS it double clicks buttons. At first we thought it was the controller but 9 is the only game that does this and it does this on steam as well from what we have read.
Update needed for iOS 14.5 the app wont start. Square does not support its app in app store, the ffix wont start and also some of our older apps like old chaos rings are also not available. Im a big contributor to square and buy their game all the times starting from the 90s till now, but Im losing our trust in them. They are not how they used to be anymore. Please support us like square golden days. Thanks.

Frequent and consistent button pressing happens whenever the button on a Bluetooth gaming remote is either held down or simply pressed. It greatly hinders our gaming experience with the Bluetooth remote, and it becomes quite bothersome. We truly hope that this issue can be resolved so that users won't have to resort to using the remote on their phone screen. Besides that, we love the game.
The game is top notchjust as magnificent as the original (with beautiful enhancements). Unfortunately, the game crashes when trying to load a save almost 80% of the time. Often, youll find yourself avoiding it altogether due to the frustration of not being able to reliably access the save file which houses your hours of play. If this bug were fixed, the game would easily earn a 5 star rating.
We love this game. But after the iOS 18 update the sound stops after loading a save file with occasional crash. Please fix, we miss playing one of our favorite games at our leisure when Im bored, waiting somewhere, or when we just want to hear the music.
The game is great. It is incredibly annoying how you have to press buttons If using a game controller like a backbone. Its like infinite presses. Doubt they will ever update. Its alright to play with touch controls. But then whats the point of allowing it to connect to a game pad? Plz fix.
The game looks and works well on iPhonewhen it works. There is a constant problem of crashing on startup with it raking more than a dozen tries and a phone reboot to get work (this is with iOS 17. The crashing also happens when playing but rarely enough that it isnt a big issue. Gameplay is good with responsive touch control. The save menu is slower to load than it needs to be and frequent saving is important due to the crashing issues and the need to repair from a. Saved fake instead of auto save. All said, this is a decentif buggyport. There is no new content. If you liked the original and cant get past the bugs it is worthwhile.
We played for a while and it was amazing. Now we cant even load up our game because it just crashes.
We love this game. First played it in college. Trying it again. Love the story, the music, and the characters. The only thing wrong with this game is it keeps crashing when we try to load a save. Not so fun when you are trying to replay a part.

Crushed With New/Recent IOS system.
The backbone controller doesnt work very well with this. You have to press the buttons extremely fast and short or itll be a double press. So when youre in battles it makes it really difficult to select commands without selecting the wrong thing.
