Battle demons and undead attorneys, and win souls to pay back your student loans! At the elite demonic-law firm of Varkath Nebuchadnezzar Stone, you’ll depose a fallen god, find romance, and maybe even make partner, if you don’t lose your own soul first.

"Choice of the Deathless" is a necromantic legal thriller by Max Gladstone, Campbell Award-nominated author of Three Parts Dead and Two Serpents Rise. The game is entirely text-based–without graphics or sound effects–and powered by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

  • Explore a fantasy realm with a rich and evolving backstory, based on the novels published by Tor Books.
  • Play as male or female, gay or straight, dead or alive (or both).
  • Build your career on carefully reasoned contracts, or party all night with the skeletal partners at your firm.
  • Navigate intrigue and mystery in a world of scheming magicians and devious monsters.
  • Look for love in at least some of the right places.
  • Balance student loans, sleep, daily commute, rent payments, and demonic litigation—hey, nobody said being a wizard was always fun.

Find out what gamers are saying about Choice of the Deathless:

A great, well-written game with a really unique world and interesting storynone of it felt tired. Magical lawyers are such a neat concept. Loved it so much we started getting into the related books, which are also great.

Excellent writing funny and suspenseful. Played through several times to change results. Great game.

This interactive story of demonic office politics is a delight, at times creepy and at times hilarious. The writing is top notch, even by the high standards of this developer, and this particular story should make anyone who’s worked in a law firm smirk (or sigh) at the accuracy of its details.

Lawyers, ibankers, and even management consultants may find this one a little close to home, and I’d recommend they try it even if they’re not into videogames. It’s basically just a choose your own adventure book set in a law firm not unlike Wolfram & Hart in the Buffy/Angel universe. Well written.

This is an engaging, fun read, and a cool game. It’s a choose-your-own-story, with a vein of supernaturalism. Your choices affect stats which track things like your affinity with different characters, your income and debt, and your available levels of power. If you’re a fan of BioWare games, especially one who enjoys those long moments staring at the screen trying to make a big decision, you’ll love this. It’s made of those kinds of decisions. If you were a fan of the demonic law firm Wolfram & Hart in TV’s Joss Whedon’s "Angel," you’ll love this. W&H could be a competitor firm to the one you work for. If you’ve actually been through law school or know someone who has, you’ll love this in a sort of painful way. And might recognize some of the demons.

We’ll keep this review short and sweet. It has all of the literary elements a good read could have, a great sense of development of the characters you interact with, and each choice that you make is a whole new perspective on who you are. Brilliant work! We hope you do make more.

If you want something that will grab your attention and have a variety of ending and twists it is a really great app.

We just love this game. We can’t stop playing it.

Interesting, beautiful world-building. Lots of choices with consequences. A couple different romance options. Just over all a really fun game with a great story! We’ve played it many times.

We’ve played almost all COGs but we put off playing this one because the idea of playing a lawyer just didn’t appeal to us. That said, this was a great game. The writing, setting, and characters are strong. The choices you make greatly affect the game experience and the ending. Your skills are fun and interesting, and there are plenty of relationships to explore. Yes, you play a lawyer but your clients and cases are just plain cool. There is plenty of engaging drama, and the end is very climatic and satisfying. We just finished it, and we look forward to trying again – it seems like there are many different endings. We liked playing this game a lot, and as many reviewers have stated, we really hope there will be a sequel or another game set in the same world. Definitely worth your time and money, give it a try!

A fantastic game, with really top notch writing and a vibrant world!

There would be a direct sequel to this, Vega and main character nudge nudge we love the world and surroundings of this out of all the CoG games, we couldn’t have asked for a better author and a better series setting, we adored the love scenes and even though they were not the main purpose of the story, it provokes wonderful feelings nonetheless! I’d love to see more MC and Vega action when it comes to those romantic scenes, so silky smooth and suave! A side Novella would be an interesting thing to write up, or an actual full-on romance CoG game, because lets face it, there’s not much of romance in ‘Choice of Romance’… Sorry but it wasn’t that great of a romance game :^) we love a love-interest character with details and well defined personality, instead of being just there for you to pick and choose to get with :) great game!!

We have played many Choice of Games… Games, and we have to say that this might be the platonic ideal. A great mix of stats building and narrative intrigue. The writing was superb as was the world building. Simply a terrific tale and one we played multiple times to achieve our desired outcome. Can’t wait to play the sequel…

A fun and engaging bit of extra world-building for The Craft Sequence. Definitely still playable without reading the books, though some parts might not be very clear. Single playthroughs don’t take very long, but there’s lots of alternative paths to explore!

We’re happy that we took the plunge into buying this game. Love the characters and their personalities. We adore the world the author created. This game led us to reading the Craft Sequence series and it’s honestly life changing.

Very fun and intricate, the writing and style is very good.

We did enjoy this game and replayed a few times. It has less replay value than some of their other games and choices seemed to have less impact. The setting/world and characters were very interesting though, and overall, we are glad we played.

Literate, error-free prose that allows the reader some input in navigating the plot’s myriad twists and turns. A bit disappointed in the depth and number of choice offered, however. Usually, we satisfy that craving by re-playing. The huge drawback to the series for us is the absence of bookmarks or chapter save points, even. To replay is to wade through pages and pages of text which does not change much if what we desire are subtle changes in approach to maximize (or minimize) trait scoring. Lacking that, at least inform us of how much charisma or craft, or whatnot we’d need for a particular choice selection. I’d still recommend as this story is like an economical novella that is written with skill and creativity.

Gladstone presents an immersive adventure set in a world where law and necromancy are one and the same. You don’t need to be a lawyer to find this affectionate skewering of the legal profession positively charming. The game is worth many replays to find the secrets and alternate storylines hidden within.

To be honest we didn’t know what to think of this when we first opened it up, but we ended up loving it! We only wish that there was more story, more jobs and things like that, basically saying it ended to soon. We also would have loved to have been able to "grow" the romantic relationships, they all seemed a little sudden.

This game is a blast, especially but not only if you’ve read any of Gladstone’s work. It contains enough original story to be about novella-length, and it’s all fun! We’ve replayed it many times when we were in an Internet-less place (mostly when we play games), trying to see all the possibilities we could find!

Best interactive novel by Choice of Games we’ve read so far. Fabulously written.

This was our first foray into modern interactive fiction, and it was amazing. It fits seamlessly into the Craft Sequence universe, but even if you’ve never read the books–which, what are you waiting for? Go, read, now!–the settings and characters are rich enough that it works on its own. Our only real complaint was that it ended too soon!

Solid story line, it’s awesome that your able to change your future though out the game. We’ve played it five times though and we’re still finding different combos for the story. We think there should be a sequel to this book, with the same protagonist or a new one all together. Keep up the good work Choice Games.

The story is great no matter how you play it, and the app has little to no issues at all. The story itself is masterfully made and was very satisfying for us. If you like games with magic and fantasy, this is a good choice because you not only play the game, but you can connect to its protagonist because you are the protagonist, and it just gives us a special feeling of being special we guess.

This is without a doubt one of our favorite games of all time. The setting, story, characters, all of it is super memorable. I’d suggest it to you all the way!

You’re a lawyer who’s also a wizard. Or a wizard who’s also a lawyer. Anyway, you negotiate contracts with dangerous demons and even more vile businessmen.

We often make the complaint of linear storylines and make no mistake this is a linear story but it is an excellent story. What we enjoy about choice of games is the branching storylines, it’s what Makes us replay them multiple times. Choice of deathless though having few branches has a great foundation.

Our Thoughts: Exciting, well written, and all around fun. A great choice game all around that will rest as one of its best forever. We just really liked it. Our Description: So, you play as a lawyer. For the dead. Stories of spirits and lawsuits fly around as you jump from section to section developing a silver tongue to persuade your friends and defeat your enemies.

The story was so enjoyable and with a new concept !! We really like it a lot although we wish the romance part would be more involved with the main plot.

By FAR. SO impressive. The prose is beautiful and full of unique imagery that gets the job done in a way you haven’t really seen before. The concept is neat and fresh. We definitely recommend it.

Just played through once and we loved it! The description and detail is better than every novel we’ve read recently. The explanations of some of the magic-y things are a bit confusing, but man-! The tension of getting your butt handed to you by some taloned monster: Perfect. :)

We love the text based games that come from this company already and Deathless is no different. It’s a really interesting game with a lot of cool routes.

It was okay. We wasn’t really clear on what the heck was going on most of the time. When you’re not very clear on who you are, where you are, or why you are, making choices holds less relevance. Kind of interesting to see what happens. It has this strange "pay off your debt" number at the end of each chapter which never really seemed to move or even matter, nor was it clear how to change it besides "changing where you live" at the end of each chapter.

So are COG not making games anymore?

As a hardcore CoG fan we gave this a try. We have to say the writing is excellent and the story great. If you are a fan of the choose your own story genre you should give this a try.

This is one of our favorite authors and we hope he has more of these in store for us!

Frame of reference: we rarely write reviews… We’ve been looking for something like this since a recent spike of childhood nostalgia set in! Having grown up reading the Choose Your Own Adventure series, we were looking for something of the like, and this truly didn’t disappoint. The thrill of the unknown was matched by the quality of penmanship, and characters and plot alike were colorfully created and well thought-out. Without ruining the plot, this tale contains adventure, science fiction, dry humor, and a pinch of a love story. One can watch… And be involved…. As the story takes myriad twists and turns. We found myself frequently dropping other tasks to return to this. A splendid return to a lost art. IOS is a great platform for these. Well done, Choice of Games! We will be back for more!

Deathless is a game where you make your own decision on how to approach certain challenges you choose what you want to do great game you should buy it 5 stars amazing story.

This is one of our absolute fav choice of games! Very interesting plot and an adorable love story within.

This game is beautifully written, and the choices flow naturally. One of our absolute favorite things to come out of CofG and worth every penny.

We couldn’t say enough about this game. It was well worth the money to play, so if that’s what’s keeping you back from playing it, we say go for it. Choice of Games has done the magnificent yet again in this amazing tale, Choice of the Deathless.

This is a beautiful game. It’s probably CoG’s best, both in terms of story and of narration. The writer had an awesome concept and we feel like he did a great deal to fulfill its potential. That said… We want more of this. We would absolutely love it if the author would consider writing another game set in the same world. We think it still has more to give! For now, though, we will definitely be reading his books.

This game creates a vivid and eerie world that you’ll enjoy discovering. The laws and rules of the demon world are very interesting. This world would make a great setting for a television show.

The world is so intriguing, we’ve replayed it more than 5 times.

We want more ,this game is great!
