Dive into Twilight Struggle

"Now the trumpet summons us again, not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are – but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle…" – President John F. Kennedy

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Twilight Struggle puts the player at the center of the Cold War, the political and economic struggle between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R that spanned 5 decades from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. Designed by award winning creators Ananda Gupta and Jason Matthews, players control one of the two modern superpowers, as they work to spread their dominance throughout the world via political influence and coup attempts. But if either side triggers nuclear war, it’s game over!

CARD BASED EVENTS
The event cards in the game are based on actual historical events from the Cold War era. Through the playing of these events, players exert their superpower’s influence as they attempt to gain allies and regional control of the globe. From the early days of De-Stalinization, to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War and beyond, players are immersed in the actual events of the struggle between these two nations to be the dominant superpower in the world!

IMMERSIVE STRATEGY
Hone your skill and strategy as a world leader against an A.I. opponent, and then take your game global with matches against other players via asynchronous online game play.

Can we make the computer much faster?

It is too unstableeasy to return to desk.

Solo mode is a mess and multi player is full of rage quitters. Basically serves as an expensive tutorial for the board game. Not recommended.

PLEASE MAKE UPDATE TO FIX THIS! Also sometimes the continue button doesnt work.

This is a fantastic game. However, the latest update seems to have caused more problems than it fixed. The victory point animation doesnt work correctly, displaying the wrong or no value. The new black text on red and blue background to show what cards have been played is low contrast and harder to read than the previous white text. Would be awesome if you could add a highest and lowest rating achieved to users profiles.

The last cosmetic update was a disaster – what was previously an outstanding app is now full of distracting graphical mistakes. We are not starting any new games until the developer undoes the damage done by the update.

1.4.4 update (May 22) is a bad one. Some of the long-standing bugs youd think easy to fix have not been (Junta still doesnt give you mil ops), and new ones introduced (I just lost on DEFCON 1 due to it not resolving Summit right). It also crows Success! On every space race attempt, even if it wasnt successful. Odd, but not game breaking.

Great game but recently has started developing lots of bugs. We didnt see these a year ago so not sure what happened but it is making the game nearly unplayable. Space race track is not always being progressed despite having successful die rolls. This is the biggest bug and really hinders the game. Game no longer allows you to take actions to advance the DEFCON track to Level 1, ending the game, when the AI opponent plays cards to allow you to do so (ex: USSR playing CIA with current DEFCON of 2). Multiple graphical issues are annoying but not imperative, such as numbers not being on the adding VP stars. AI in general is very subpar, proceeding with some terrible moves but yet always seeming to know your scoring card.

Yes a recent update broke the map movement, but the most recent update fixed it. Thank you devs. Tip for other players if this ever happens again: you can tap on the 3 region buttons on the lower left and right sides of your screen to zoom to those regions. I.e. Eu, M, and As.

This app has digitized the original board game wonderfully! To the point that we think Id prefer to play the digital version over the physical version . Thats saying something! The app works flawlessly and never crashes (which unfortunately happens all too often on many game apps). We HIGHLY recommend the game. You will not regret it! 10/10!

We play on hardest setting as the U.S. So far over 200 games with a higher win over loss. AI always knows your score card. The random die roll for the player is weighted heavily to getting a one. And the AI wins coups on the certain countries consistently. But if you can keep the AI from winning by turn 6, it then makes the worse decisions consistently, like placing everything in Africa whenever it can and not using card events like quagmire. Its addicting play and tho I,d rather have a ftf game it,ll do for now.

Good adaptation of the board game. AI, however, is terrible. AI Russians couping Philippines on 1st Action Round of the game with the China Card?!? No one would do that. India-Pakistan War when opponent has no influence in either?!? No one would do that either, unless lack of military ops would lose the game.

We play this game for a while, it is a strong strategy game base on cards. It deserves for our 1st place board game. However, the game showed up some bugs which is annoying. When we played our score card, it dominated region only gave us presents score. When we win the ai player, system give the price to the ai??

Some of the usual cards are no longer showing up in the game. Very disappointing update.

Screwy odds to the point of ruining the game.

Played countless times to coup north korea on first play with 4 ops card and never succeeded.

Game was great before the update. Now, it runs super slow and is very glitchy. This is a shame, as we had been playing the game prior to this and really enjoyed it.

This is an excellent electronic adaptation of one of the best board games of all time.

Allowing the map to move would change this rating to a 5 star.

AI is useful for learning, but can soon be beaten. Lots of opportunities for on line play against real opponents. Very good interface, thematic music, like the bidding system, once we googled how it worked.

Tutorial crashes about 2 minutes into it repeatedly. Not cool if trying to learn the game… The game itself works thankfully.

The new update broke the ability to scroll the map, as well as the ability to zoom out after examining a region. Unplayable on our iPad now…

The app keeps crashing after the last update. Cant use it.

As many others have said, the recent update has ruined game play. Please fix the app.

With 1.4.0, we can no longer move the map around on our iPad Air 2. Very difficult to play the game any longer. Very difficult now to navigate.

The new update has ruined the app. Map no longer can be moved, fonts on cards are horrible, system glitches and lags. Its great that they finally allow the app to run in the background now, but everything else about this update is awful.

One of the best board games of all time? Yep. We can hold it in our hands while laying on the couch? Yep. Id buy every port Asmodee makes if its at this level of quality.

Classic board game. They did a great job with all the rules and letting you undo things mid turn. Interface is good. Supports cross-play with Steam. Only problem is you have to reload the game if you switch away which can slow it down if you are multitasking.

Never played before but since was relatively cheap to ry through the App Store as opposed to the real board game we took a flyer. The tutorial is well made. Certainly demonstrates the complexity of the game. Will need several trials to understand and remember but seems well made. We can see why if you enjoy strategic back and forth no clear winner to start why this a worthy challenge. Since no glitches thus far we’ll give a 5 star. Right up there with pandemic, settlers and small world 2 on our pad.

We really love this game. And this implementation is absolutely slick. But every time we switch to another app even for ten seconds, we have to go through the complete login sequence again to play our next turn. Seven screens of the developers’ animated logos, login options, connect to server, reselect our active game, then reconnect. Every. Single. Turn . It’s maddening.

Overall, good port of game to app. Unfortunately, several issues: does not include complete set of rules. Pretty lame if you ask us. Which leads to next issue: if we switch to Safari or iBooks to check rules, the game starts all over again! What?!???!? Then theres the issue with the tutorial: theres no back button! So if you want to review a previous instruction, you have to start all over again. Finally, the AI is quite slow. Having said all that, this has the potential to be a great game. The big deal-breaker is the inability to put the app in the background without restarting the game. This absolutely must be fixed.

Great game and expertly executed but crashes are waaay too frequent. Please fix!

Realignment and coup attempts affect the demon status TWICE during offline mode when 2 players are taking turns. As a result, only two of these need to happen in a turn for defcon to reach 1 and the player initiating the event wins… Huh? Please fix.

There is ample evidence after only a few plays that the die rolls are wildly skewed and the AI sees your hand. Probably okay for human players.

Very unbalanced game with dice rolling. In our opinion no game can be a strategy game if you have to rely on dice. The app itself contradicts its own rules. People who enjoy this game are enjoy tedium and the color beige.

Not sure what the recent issue is but now either right when we open the app or shortly after starting a game it crashes.

Im to stoopid too play this game. WTH did we just play?

This app is so unstable and the developer hasnt updated in a long time. Dont buy until they fix the issues!

Id like a refund. This ran a couple times, but now crashes on our iPad 2 running iOS 12.4.1. Disappointed, cuz we have the board game and think thats great!

Ever since this stupid patch game crashes at start-up we have an I-PAD 2 7.1 version, it still hits the correct requirements to play. Lost money bad move Asmodee.

Played as the US 5 times and could not get passed the 5th round, it seems like most of the cards are USSR cards, making the game impossible. Great idea just needs improvements to the gameplay, wasted money on this game. Plus it takes forever when playing the computer.

When we first got this a week ago, we would have given this 4 or 5 stars. After our first game or 2, however, we have run into MANY bugs. -Southeast Asia scoring card appeared in early war and then came back around! This is game changing if you know how to play this game. – sometimes you can add extra influence with no card or reason behind it when placing influence. – we just lost a game after the AI player chose to make a coup attempt on a battleground country at a level 2 defcon (AI should have lost) – free coup attempts sometimes degrade defcon – once a scoring card popped up that was not actually in either players hand. These are just a few. We think we have had bugs come up in 60% of our games. Once, it said we had degraded the defcon and ended the game when we hadnt played any cards that do that, nor had we made a coup attempt on a battleground. The actual board game is great, but we dont think we will waste our time with this app. Sounds like they dont fix bugs… Not worth putting the time into playing a game if you can randomly just lose through no fault of your own after 45 minutes. Buy the board game, find someone to play with! The board game is worth the money. The app isnt.

Have lost numerous games playing the Lone Gunman card at DEFCON 2. The AI (playing Soviet) will use the ops value to attempt a coup against a battleground country, ending the game. Instead of winning, we lose every time this situation occurs. Its an insane glitch that violates a basic rule. Fix the game.

One star! This developer NEVER FIXED the game resetting itself in the background. Thats inexcusable to release the game that way. Then YEARS later, they STILL have not fixed that issue. We wanted to take notes during the Tutorial and this BUG prevents that. They dont even have a setting for running in the background. A third bug in the Tutorial. Tapping DEFCON Status does nothing. A long touch and the text flashes by. That cuts it. Wasted our money! Deleted. Its a shame that a good game is ruined by a poor developer. The last thing this developer fixed was IAP a YEAR AGO. But not the remaining bugs. We remember a time (30 years ago) when game developers were driven by the desire to put out a quality product and were embarrassed if a bug got out. Switch to today when customers, ridiculously, accept software bugs in paid for apps as normal. What fools! Oh, by the way, in those days we took the program (games, whatever) back to the store for a complete refund. Thats called incentive. Put out quality software or go out of business. Apple changed all that where today, you hardly can expect to get program quality. How sad that money exceeds our expectations and controls our lives.

App doesnt work, it crashes when loading.

Couldnt even get through the tutorial. Not at all pleased wasting our money on this. Avoid.

There is something wrong with the dice rolling algorithm. On a recent game we rolled a 1 six times in a series of twelve rolls. There are very improbable dice roll outcomes with this game; something wrong with the random dice roll program. We think we will stick with the actual physical board game; at least we know the dice we roll are honest.

App crashes frequently. On an iPad Pro and have closed all other apps, so this isnt a memory issue. Additionally, if you accidentally switch to another app for even a half second, the entire game restarts and shows all loading screens. You must re-sign into the server and your game. This is incredibly annoying. Please fix!
