Unmatched: Digital Edition is a Entertainment/Board/Strategy game from Dire Wolf Digital LLC, first launched in 28th February 2023.
It’s rated 9+ and currently has 89+ ratings on the App Store.

What Makes Unmatched: Digital Edition Stand Out

Unmatched: Digital Edition is an adaptation of the critically acclaimed board game, where two (or more) opponents command characters from myth, history, or fiction in a battle for the ages! Have you ever wondered who would win, King Arthur (aided by Merlin) or a sword-wielding Alice of Wonderland? How would Sinbad and his trusty porter fare against Medusa and the three harpies? The only way to find the truth is in battle with a quick game of Unmatched!

In Battle The Are No Equals!

What is Unmatched?
Unmatched: Digital Edition is a tactical game where each player commands their hero and sidekick(s), using a unique deck of cards, to defeat their opponent on the field of battle.

The rules are simple. On your turn, take two actions which can be:

  • Maneuver: Move your fighters and draw a card!
  • Attack: Play an attack card!
  • Scheme: Play a scheme card (cards that have a special effect).

Get your opponent's hero to zero health, and you win the game.

What makes the game special is that each hero has a unique deck and ability. Alice grows big and gets small. King Arthur can discard a card to power up his attack. Sinbad gets stronger as he goes on more voyages. Medusa can damage you with just a glance.

What makes Unmatched great?
Unmatched is one of those easy-to-learn games with an incredible amount of depth. The tactical insight and knowledge of your hero and your opponents will determine the outcome of the fight. Games are quick – but play out very differently! Your decisions will determine your fate, and your skill (and just a bit of luck) will win the day.

What can you expect?

  • Epic duels between the most unlikely opponents!
  • Huge tactical depth!
  • Stunning artwork by legendary artists!
*Three levels of AI for solo play!
  • Near infinite replayability!

Player Experience Highlights

Community Insight:

We love this game and use it to see the results of potential match ups and/or practice while unable to play in real life. We love unmatched very much, we own almost every physical set, and wish we could test the newer sets here.

We really love your board game and we were excited there was a digital version, but its hard to read the text on our phone. Is there a way to have a zoom in feature.

The game plays well and we haven't run into any bugs yet; however, we would like it if the scheme cards were shown for longer so they could be read, maybe just two or three seconds. Also it'd be nice if we got characters and boards from more sets, like Legends Vol. 2, and Houdini & The Genie.

We would like them to get all of the current Unmatched characters in an update but the app does work very well.

Love the game but there needs to be more heros added. Its getting super stale and in the real sets there are so many heros to choose from! PLEASE ATLEAST ADD VOL 2.

This game is a lot of fun to play and has a lot of tactical depth. However, it doesnt have local pass and play so we cannot give it five stars. There is no realistic reason for why pass and play would not be included except corporate greed. Most board game apps have this as a basic feature at launch which makes its exclusion puzzling. Board games are made to be played with others and not including pass and play feels somewhat predatory and anti-consumer.

We had 2 big issues with the game: 1. If you press the green checkbox at the end of your turn before bigfoots ability box is displayed, it will be stuck on your screen and you cant click anything 2. Its really tough to see which zone each fighter is on why not display that info somewhere.

So Im playing against medusa in a 2v2 and we kill her but she still gets to play her harrpys?!?? Then when we use her in a 1v1 we think oh okay they give us a second chance but nope. If you die as Medusa you lose the game! This is so confusing! Once you lose your hero your sidekicks are out too.

Its a great digital adaptation of the board game and we commend the effort. But as some have some there are a few game breaking bugs which we appreciate that they are working on. However we feel the biggest problem is the lack of push notifications or badges for non live games. These rarely work, and obviously its hard to play a game if people dont know if its their turn or forget about it.

We shouldnt have to pay 11 dollars just to play the full game. Either make the game 11 dollars or just give us the full game for free.

We have a lot of board games. Unmatched is our favorite of them all. We play it with anyone willing, we watch videos, we look for all the clues and spoilers as to whats coming in the next setsI love the game. This app though, seriously disappointing so far. On launch we immediately bought it and the season pass. Since then its just sadly been one disappointment after another. Each new character that comes out is basically unplayable at launch and patch after patch still cant seem to fix a multitude of things. The vast majority of our games end in the game crashing or freezing or the AI on hard doing a variety of nonsensical things that make it not fun. And we would play with our friends instead of the AI, in fact we got it to do so and encouraged all our friends to get it. Im sorry we did. Ive barely completed any games, they are disappointed with us at the waste of money, and unless they have an IPhone, we cant find even find them to play. Its supposed to be cross compatible but it doesnt work. The app looks beautiful which is why we give it two stars, and we so badly want it to be good, but after waiting and waiting through delay after delay for it to launch, then waiting and waiting as bug after bug is fixed we think we may be giving up on it. Maybe Ill come back in a few years and see if its better. Sad day for this massive unmatched fan.

We love playing the board games with our family. It has been an amazing chance for us to spend time with them. We all decided to get this digital version, so we could practice in our free time. While the digital version is a lot of fun, we found many bugs/issues with the game as we play. The biggest issue happens when the AI Dracula is playing. It will unpredictably stop the game and send to a loading screen. From there, it reopens the match but it wont allow us to play the game. It gets stuck on the loading map and the AI wont finish its processing/decision making. This happens with other characters but it stands out most with Dracula because it happens almost every game. The game will only function properly if Dracula is not played at all. Other than the bugs, this game is great.

Love the game but am having multiple freezes towards the ends of games. Particularly games w/Dracula, Hyde, and Arthur.

The game itself is great, app needs more work. It is still crashing during attacks – for us its when the opponent attacks twice in the same turn. Pretty consistent crashes, in multiple games. Crash persists at the same spot even after reloading, killing the app then reloading, and power cycling the phone. Had to start a new game which is a bummer. Hope this gets fixed soon so we can enjoy the game without crashes.

Im big fan of Unmatched, but Im pretty disappointed with the app. The game crashes rather consistently, and some cards like Draculas Do our Bidding dont activate properly. Its a real bummer to pay for the game PLUS the season pass and have such incredibly limited functionality.

We love the physical game, so this is not a review of that. This app is incredibly buggy. We commend them for pushing patches out so quickly, but honestly it feels like we are going backwards. There are now more gameplay bugs than there were at launch. Medusa is barely playable because her versatile attacks cant be used by her (only her Harpies). Alice frequently changes size for no reason or uses the wrong size ability (based on the mini shown). Sinbads journeys work sometimes but not others (cannot see a rhyme or reason when it works or not). Online gives you lots of options, but it is easy to get kicked out of a match, and once out, you cannot get back in. Thats tricky, but we hope they get that working sooner or later. Finally, we think they needed to launch with what the Season Pass will eventually bring. Four relatively simple heroes is a pretty bad experience considering weve already paid for the app. And those that go for the season pass already have access to some much stronger heroes (and depending on who you ask, possibly the absolute strongest hero) in the game. Edit: Thanks for responding devs, though honestly it just make us even less likely to play the game. First, we never said we enjoy Unmatched Digital. In fact, we hate it. Secondly, when we posted this a month ago, we tried to submit reports using the feedback tool, except after 20 tries or so, not a single one would successfully send. Downloaded patch just now, tried again, still cannot submit feedback. We can play the online portion (awful bugs permitting), but cannot submit feedback. We dont think we will try it again.

We have played this game quite a few times. Started off strong but recently it seems that there are some issues. We usually use Robin Hood and during some battles he has taken multiple hits while using a scheme card. Also several times our opponent has been able to skip our turn and cause massive damage without being able to defend. Still lots of fun, but we have a horrible win lose record. Lol.

Riddled with bugs. Once Sherlock was added, a lot of the switch places with x fighter glitches. Additionally, playing locally, AI bigfoot constantly moves around when trying to decide a maneuver. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, other times he just keeps moving place to place and doesnt decide on a spot and locks the game.

Ive been trying to get this to run on our M1 MacBook but no luck. Its possible the developers are blocking it on purpose. Regardless, if we cant run it on our MacBook, then it cant earn more than one star.

First game app we have ever seen to not include additional human option to ai human battle in local play, no pass & play options current 2023.

Update. Great developer response. They obviously want this game to be perfect. Honestly with how some things are a little confusing. The reports we have made so far has been our misunderstandings of how things work we cannot recommend this game enough if you have any interest in this genre! Upgrading to 5 stars. We adore this game and will change our rating to 5 stars once bugs are patched. We have submitted three bug reports so far, none of them game breaking. We have found more minor ones, but am too lazy to report every one. We dont work for the company.

After playing a few hours, we had a few good matches where everything worked fine. But we also had several moments where halfway through a match the game would abruptly crash during an action such as attacking or defending. We would attempt to reload the game and resume the match, but it crashes at the exact same point over and over again. So we have to start a completely new match. Which is not fun at all knowing it could just crash again. Also the UI is very clunky and things feel to overlapping at times. We absolutely love the board game, so we have high hopes for the digital edition. Hoping they get everything sorted out soon.

We have many expansions of the the cardboard version of this game. Unmatched is one of our favorites. This is a very good port.

It seems like the only local options is vs AI, which is a bit of a bummer that theres no option we can see for pass & play.

We originally reviewed this as a 3 because of a bug in the tutorial. But we decided to skip the tutorial. The game comes naturally, and is another example of Acram's stellar workmanship. Glad to have another gem in our collection. Between them, Dire Wolf, and Asmodee, every night is family game night. (Against a family of bots, but yeah).

Fantastic adaptation of the game, when it works. Recently has had a major bug that crashes the app between moves in online, or when you move to go to the lobby in online, or just randomly when playing against the AI offline. Definite stability issues.

Online works flawlessly. We wish you could stay in game after the match ends to discuss, or view the cards/board to see what other moves you could have done to learn for the future.

Havent explored higher AI difficulties or multiplayer but this seems like a must try for board game fans.

Can u make word size bigger than now. Its too small to read.

Ive currently arbitrarily given this a 3. The tutorial hung when it asked us to Tap the EXCALIBUR card. Ive tried to report this directly to ACRAM but the message form continues to fail. So both the support web site and the game have issues. Hopefully both will soon be rectified or maybe someone can tell us if Im doing something wrong in the tutorial. Updated to a 4 (really a 3.5) mainly due to quick response by the developer. The game seems to play well (we dont know the board game). The interface is pretty clunky and at times the images can obscure the board. The size of the fighters bases can be so large as to make seeing the underlying space difficult. Additionally the online interface has issues. We play mostly async. Its cumbersome to re-establish your game. Additionally if you dont exit the online section before ending your session, when you come back you will either be plunked back into the starting menu, or if you are still in the online section if you try to go to lobby, it will crash. None of these are terrible but should have been identified via beta testing. We assume live online play is cleaner.

So let us start by saying Im a huge fan of Unmatched and we love the board game. As far as quick two player board games this is one of our favorites. So we were naturally excited for the mobile adaptation, however this doesnt quite stand up to the legacy the board games built. First off the game comes with only 4 characters and two maps. Anyone who has battle of legends v.1, this is all it comes with. For $12 you can add a season pass which comes with 8 more character. A little thin at release but we have no issue with the pricing on the season pass. The real problem of the game comes with the lack of a human vs human mode locally. How can the mobile edition of a two player game not offer a two player game? They really need to add a 1 vs 1 local mode. It seems like a obvious omission that makes no sense. The other issue is the online its 2023 online systems are bad as unmatched digital edition shouldnt still exist. The game makes you join other lobbies or host your own, the problem is people are idle and the pace rate online is dirt slow. There needs to be a timer because people take serval minutes to move or just go idle and theres no timer. There also should be a quick match mode that just pairs you up with another player as opposed to having to join a lobby then picking a seat then its a slow and tedious online that doesnt need to be. All in all this digital edition is a disappointment, we cant go lower then 3 (although it really should be) due to how much we love the board game. This digital edition desperately needs local 1 vs 1 and a streamlined online system.

Since this is a digital version its possible to make bad characters better and good ones balanced. Balancing the characters would probably attract more players to the digital version. Game crashes after match Other then that its a great game.

Im stuck on the attack screen and it just hangs. Probably delete for now and maybe come back later, disappointing.

This game is very addictive, and Ive already purchased the season pass. The tutorial has some bugs (in the second tutorial, for example, as it tells you to play Excalibur, you cant. You can hold the card but you cant play it), but other than that the game is amazing. Straightforward to play, but there is clearly some depth there as well. Definitely worth the purchase.

Im a huge fan of the board game and love having the option to play on mobile. This game supports cross platform play and is well implemented adaptation of the tabletop game. The teams at Restoration and Acram have put a lot of thought and effort into this digital version and have been very responsive to feedback. Highly recommended.

Our favorite board game comes to mobile! And so out the window goes our work productivity! Thankful to have this great game in our pocket at all times to log a few turns with buds whenever we have a moment. This is such a great way for us to play with some friends who live across the country. The transition from board to digital isnt seamless but its about the best you could hope for, we think. Which is to say its still fun and easy to pick up. The digital animations and the new skins are neat features in the app. Cant wait to see more heroes added.

Wow. We bought this because Acram sent us an email telling us about their new game. The tutorial is broken from launch. Not a great sign.

Cant hardly read cards. And tutorials get stuck so you cant even learn how to play the game. In the first tutorial you get stuck trying to get Excalibur.
