Community Insight:
Wow, we remember getting the original bauldurs gate on pc with 8 cd roms to run(bg1 seems so small now!) Now the thing fits on our iPad. Admittedly the touchscreen is a compromise, but once we got the hang of it, we were off. There is a tremendous wiki for the games and still boasts an active community at the time of this writing. We really wanted planescape to be a better game (how do you wind up with a linear adventure on the great ring?) but thats no fault of the folks who ported this stuff. Ive had immense enjoyment from this entire bundle, with a replay Im doing for the third time now. Taking characters from the core 3 games is very easy and extremely satisfying to the power player who understands the game mechanics. Thanks for the blast from the past from the superior in every way, ADnD 2e. (Sorry you 5e wimps, this is challenging on even core rules, and spoon feeds nothing to you. Also there are no half dragon/tiefling/goliath bard-paladin-sorcerer-artificer-theres play tested balance for a reason.).
People complaining about hit percentages and fighting mechanics have never played D&D and theyre telling on themselves. This game requires lots of saves and planning. Get prepared.
We play on a iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, this as been an amazing experience. Im almost finished with this and then onto part 2.
We love this game, we bought Neera and Dorn storylines and played this for years on our old IPad. We have all the sequels too. We got a new iPad and reinstalled the app, but it looks like it is making us repurchase Neera and Dorn! Please tell us this is not true! Help! HELP.
Awesome port for iPad, happy to give 5-stars as there was a lot of effort that went in to capturing the best parts of the original.
The smaller screen on IOS takes some getting used to but being able to zoom with your fingers really helps we HIGHLY recommend cranking your phone brightness to max and then the game is as beautiful and easy to see as a game of this generation can be on a phone So far our custom party of 3 has just made their way into Beregost town. Loving the game so far, played the original and its DLCs and sequels on pc.
These games are timeless and amazing. Rich deep stories with great game play and graphics.
Can we get controller support for the Baldurs Gate series of games.
Great game, MAKE SURE you get baulders gate 1 and not the 2 or 3rd as its a continuation of the story scaled to higher lvs, not a better version. In the starting area before you leave theres a shopkeeper in the north of the villige. And for making your character only certain races can use specific classes, try a different race if you want to be something else ( human can be most any class.) reroll stats a few times to get some good stats for your first playthrough. You will die alot, this is an old pc game, and as such its a steep learning curve. And a biggy is to remember that all the xp you get is split between your party so dont just recruit everyone you find, as youll have trouble leveling your main characters. (Get a healer) ~And above all REST to recover health/ spells often.
We loved these games so much… And never got to finish them when we were younger. Now we have them on our phone… And all we can say is thank you very much. We finally get to play this game out in all good and evil directions. Never had the chance… Til now. <3 Thank you… Thank you so much.
Love the game just wish it had controller support.
Beautifully ported IMO. Deserves a higher rating.
BG is a legendary game, and anyone who isnt a complete chimp can figure it out. This port is great, and perfect for iPad (we wouldnt do it on a phone). We dont know where these low reviews are coming from (probably competitors) but for an old school RPG experience with great writing and storyline, along with excellent tactical D&D rules-based combat, its hard to beat. The idea thats its rated 3.8 while Ive seen complete garbage rated 4.5+ is mind numbing.
Its amazing to see our all time favorite computer games come to mobile so we can play the, on the go. The nostalgia of the classic BG:TotSC with the enhanced edition updates makes us so happy.
Love Baldurs Gate. Love the EE and especially the new characters. Dorn is a beast! We bought the game several years ago with our new iPad before BG II EE came out. IPad has since gone to the kids and come back to us with the game deleted. When we redownloaded from the App Store the in game purchases we bought didnt come with them even though its the same account. Any idea how to get them back? Now that theres the new bundle Id like to get it and play it all through.
Started a new game, but all of the characters are stuck together in a group and cant move past each other so you cant do anything in the game.
We accidentally Karend because Im kinda dense, hope this redoes our negative comment. This game is in our top 10 of all time, and handles way better on a 13 inch tablet than any other platform.
This is easily one of the best rpgs out there. For someone who, before playing this, had never played this type of game we can say it took a little bit of trial and error at first but the experience was well worth the commitment.
What a treat to play a game we loved way back when. Back in those days, we had to assemble binders with printed walkthroughs and item locations. It required a huge time investment/obsession. Now, if we get stuck, we can just google very specific info, and the gameplay controls/importing characters are easy. Im going through the game effortlessly, which makes it more enjoyable. We splurged on this set at the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown and finally beat Throne of Bhaal. We just purchased Neverwinter Nights and was disappointed that we cant import our characters, but Im glad to see yet another Forgotten Realms game on iOS. These games on iPad were our dream come true.
This is an absolutely wonderful game. Outside of not having console access (to avoid having to roll stats for hours), BG works as well on an iPad as it does on PC. If you like deep RPGs with endless character creation options, definitely check this one out.
Ive spent hours on hours playing this game, trying to get the most out of it as we can, and its nothing short of spectacular. If you want a good example of an age defining game with enhanced gameplay, a charming story, and loveable characters, then this game was made for you. Our only issue is with The Black Pits actually, where any time we try to beat the necromancer Lyyrk or something, our game crashes and fails, and we cant continue on with the story. Still, that is only a small DLC, and everything else, besides the save system a bit, is a great work of art.
Im another person who doesnt understand all the negative reviews here. This game is very well done and a lot of fun to play, but you need to learn how to play these types of games. There is a little bit of a learning curve up front, but its not that difficult. Once you get the hang of it, youll enjoy the game, storyline and depth of play. We attempted to play this game 15 years ago, but we didnt pay much attention to the tutorial which caused us much frustration and eventually we abandoned the game. Now that we have taken some time to learn how the game works, we love it! They really did a fantastic job of getting this game onto a mobile platform. Im very impressed.
Great storyline. New classes and races. We remember the PC version with 6 CDs. Now we have the power to play and go #2 at the same time. P. S. So funny to read these bad reviews about wasting $10. Lol ppl spend $6 on a cup of coffee that you piss out in 5 minutes but a classic RPG with 60+ hrs of fun is a waste cause you refuse to play on an iPad.
As we were going through durlags tower. First time play through, first exposure to the DnD world. The game was a real treat. Looking forward to playing the others.
Ill never know why this game is rated as low as it is its probably the best game on mobile for the fact the phone doesnt play it for you and you actually have to put physical input and thinking into what you are doing and know how to make a character properly the first couple of runs if you dont know D&D basics very well will probably be trial and error and the game might be hard but we feel thats what makes it fun that being said there is a new feature where the mage class auto targets and cast his spells by himself we dont like it absolutely hate it tryed to turn it off and cant stop making our games play by themselves please we bought this one specifically because it didnt then it got changed.
Its an amazing game that translates well to ipad. Brings back a lot of memories. Even though we still have the foldout CD holder and the PC to play it on, its just better on the ipad. BOOOOO to anyone giving a 1 or 2 star rating… BOOOOO.
Its baldurs gate. Sticky control , bad AI, just like you remember it.
We used to play this when we were a wee lad, and we love the fact that now we get to take such a great game literally everywhere with us now. We are excited to see what else comes this way.
Our favorite game ever! Didnt know iPhone had it on here. Im a moron. Bout to get fired lol.
Even if youve just played on-paper role play games you would be fascinated with this one if you want to get the same level of satisfaction. This game as served us many years on the computer and will now live in our iCloud, devoted fan! Just ran into one game ending bug we get sometimes: whenever we loot something (with the dialogue screen halfway up), the red button below the looting window in the middle is covered by that inventory/dialogue window, forcing us to just close the game and start at the quicksave. Of course its never game breaking. Baulders Gate taught us to save often despite that but we know how maddening it can be to some people. Love what you guys do, we intend to buy the bundle in the future to support. C:.
We were never able to get into this game much prior to the EE edition, but now we absolutely love it! Not only is the interface drastically improved, but it looks amazing on an iPad Pro. We have it on our PC as well, but the iPad graphics blow it away. Somehow its less pixelated and blended better.
Hours of fun and fond memories of playing on our old Mac. Fun times.
Good times playing this on PC many many many years ago lol so excited to see it on iPad. SOLD lol It also plays like a dream too no glitches so far. Well done.
This game has been working great for us on our iPad Pro, no glitches, no time outs, honestly its better then the original abuse we dont need to keep changing discs, this game does deserve 5 stars and it needs a newer review to prove it costs 10 bucks but we think it was worth it for us cause of the memories we get from playing it again.
One of our favorite games from childhood. Beamdog did a great job bringing it back to life and as unbelievable as it seems, the iPad is a fantastic medium to experience this fantastic game. The iPads multitouch screen has ruined us for the PC version. Being able to zoom in and out on the iPad is pretty glorious. The first day our wife and we played we had numerous issues such as the game refusing to unpause after resting and constant network drops, but we resolved them by switching out her 2011 iPad for our PC and using the local network/direct connect option. After doing those two things the game has been rock solid. Crossplay between our 6th gen iPad and our PC has been great. Being able to introduce our wife to this game has been awesome. Shes having a blast. Thanks Beamdog.
Tried playing a few times before this update and was just too frustrated with issues and the size of this game so we deleted it fairly quickly to free up space. This winter 2018-2019 we got fed up with all the games we did have on this iPad. 99% of them just had absolutely horrible performance. We ended up looking for a new RPG that didn't require the Internet and discovered that this game was updated. Well, we had to clear a LOT of space, but boy was it worth it! They did an excellent job with this game in the end! It performs better than most all other games on this thing and has a ton of depth and play time. When we can afford to we will be getting the full BG collection! Thank you devs.
This is amazing and the only things we use our iPad for.
This is a very playable port to the touchscreen format.
Love the game always have. We wish you guys could redo the original gold box games from TSR like Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Dark Queen of Krynn etc… We would be all over all those.
This is a deep and complex old school RPG with a steep learning curve. We strongly suggest you find the manual to this game and study it first. Although it takes some work, the payoff is enjoying one of the greatest classic RPG series ever made. The series will give you back dozens and dozens of hours of enjoyment if you put in a little time at the front end. There is a long story line with much reading involved, many companions to get to know and adventure with, and complex combat with endless ways to play. Take your time and enjoy it the old school way and you wont be disappointed.
Game is exactly as the old one, really. But the controls and the icons are so small! Well, theres a workaround: go to setting, accessibility, and zoom. Turn it on, turn on follow focus, and zoom controller. Tap the directional pad when you want to bring up the options, and change to window zoom when playing the game. You get a little window that you can control the size, location, and magnification of. Put this over your pause button when not using it. When you need it, change the size and zoom accordingly and move it around the screen for those hard to click icons, the inventory menus, or to interact with the environment. This thing is the only way we can play this game, and its proven worth it, even if it is a bit of a hassle until you get used to it.
As good as this game is, it really needs an update for newer devices to make the resolution correct. And this probably applies to the rest of the games in this series as well.
This is an almost perfect port of a legendary game. The only problem is the UI. They added a scaling slider, but the UI is still too small at the max setting.
The entire collection of overhaul games would be 5 on iOS except well except they will not update the app to go full screen. Id prefer to play on our phone over our PC. But with the games not fitting to our screen theyre too small to be enjoyable.. If it gets fixed it would be an easy 5 star.
We love BG, have played through it many times (great offline game when Im unable to be on WiFi for extended periods of time). However, when we go to play the Black Pits, it ALWAYS crashes when we kill Llyrk. DEVELOPERS, please address this. We havent had this happen in the regular BG ever, but its happened at least 5 times, with imported characters and the stock group. We would love to see this fixed and be able to enjoy the full content of this incredible game. -Thank you in advance.
A must-play RPG for any fan of D&D. Great updates to the UI, bug fixes, graphical improvements, multiplayer (which works much more reliably now in 2.5) and re-adding missing content and adding expansion content and their own. Can be a bit difficult at times, especially if you stumble upon expansion content too early – just come back later. Only one quibble: When building a character, it says refer to the manuals. But there are no links to download the manuals anywhere we can see on their website. Where are they.
We decided to try this out on our iPhone 11 despite the warning about screen size. We found the game still very much playable once the text is resized. We do wish the whole screen was used for the iPhone 11 so the buttons werent as tiny but its still manageable.
Looking for a good iphone DND game, we gave this a try. We are still giving this a try, but it is a hard slog. We probably have to change our combat tactics, but for the novice this game appears to highlight all of the worst parts of actual role playing games (yay! Lets walk across a giant map for 5 minutes! Lets click though countless menus trying to organize our inventory! Lets struggle to walk through doorways! Lets accidentally cast the wrong spell because one rock icon looks just like any other rock icon!). Meanwhile, the part of DND that most folks find enjoyable, combat, happens in a muddled flash. We have tried modifying the scripts, but the characters have yet to behave sensibly. So, we spend 15 minutes traversing a forest landscape, then 15 seconds getting killed during a random encounter. Im sure we are missing something, but it has not been super enjoyable trying to figure this game out.
The Black Pits freezes after the necromancer battle. Its a commonly known problem, so why is it allowed to persist.
Played, and traveled a few times, now we're about to go to the Friendly Arm Inn, and clicking the travel button just takes us back to our current location. Pretty sad for as much money as we paid. Getting help or support is so complex it's a total deterent on the iPad.
